Stopped here once on a whim, and really wish I hadn't.
I ordered their buffalo chicken pizza, which was a special at that time. The pizza came out, and it had barely any flavor at all. The buffalo sauce, amazingly enough, was entirely bland. The pizza was very crispy, too, as though it had sat in the oven a bit too long.
To be honest with you, I threw away half of the pizza just because I didn't want to see it ever again.
One Love Pizza, right across the street, is a MUCH better option if you want a pizza fix, although I can certainly understand how the sit-down atmosphere of Jake's may be better for meeting with friends. -

3.5*
1. Watch out for their football night specials. One night, I had 10 buffalo wings for $5. And boy, they were good. I like them more than Buffalo Wilds Wings reg buffalo wings.
2. I like how they have small cups for beer so it seems like you're drinking more when you're really not! (For calories sake of course).
3. Their pizza was good the first time I had it (where it was more warm because I ordered it to go, but the second time, I ate it at the restaurant and thought it was alright but not great. The last time I went, toppings were a little sparse. Crust is similar to Round Table's almost, as in it is a little stiff but the toppings and melted cheese hit the spot. And I do enjoy how some cheese ends up baked crisp on top of the crust. -

We used to come here all the time but I think with our experence recently and also looking at the recent reviews, not anymore.
We called to pick up a pizza and they told us twenty minutes, fine. We got there and they said it would be another twenty to thirty minutes (!?) even though we had called it in previously.
Waited for forty minutes and then they said ANTOHER ten to fifteen minutes. What the heck? After more than an hour of sitting there we finally got it and when we got home it was so obvious that the pizza had been just sitting somewhere for a long time. It was BARELY lukewarm and the crust was petrified rock hard and cold. Disgusting. -

We stopped in for a pitcher and cheesesteaks. I am a fan of Jake's in Willow Glen and the O in Menlo Park, and I feel like the food is better in both the other locations. We got salad as a sub for one of the fries and it was old. I hate web restaurants serve lettuce that has turned. Makes you question the freshness and quality of the rest. Place was pretty empty and didn't have much life.

I LOVE JAKES! We started off with ceasar salads, delish. Then ordered the pizza, it was nice and soft where it needed to be and the crust was soft but also a bit crisp. PERFECT! I love their lemonade too, not all crazy sweet. Will for sure be back, especially since I just moved to Sunnyvale.

Alan takes great care of my friend Frank and me. We always order BLT's,
peanuts and drinks. Hard to believe but the BLT's here are the best ones we've ever had in a restaurant. Its noisy (lots of kids), but there are
lots of regulars there so the conversations are fun, even with a ball game on. -

Love the Pizza! What makes a pizza is the crust and the sauce. They have both at Jakes. The only reason I didn't give them the 5th star was due to sterile smell of the place. Rather smell the good food. But at least I know it's clean!

Jakes is good, they have good burgers....I haven't tried the pizza yet. Definitely don't go during a Sharks game if you value your hearing. I guess it would have been okay had there not been that one fan that always cheers or screams at moments where it's not called for - it took all my willpower not to go up to her and scream in her ear randomly for fun...
But yeah, back to the food - hmmm....I pretty much get the same thing each time, the onion rings are so-so (I guess onion rings can be done so different they are pretty subjective). Fries are good, burgers are good, can't comment on anything else really - wait times are okay. Even when packed. And look out because when they are packed they do turn off their sign (unless that's an anomaly) to discourage people from coming in I suppose, when at capacity - but we still were allowed in...not sure what that's about. -

I always loved the Gilroy Garlic Special at the Garrett and the Boardwalk. My friend never had it and I was shocked so off we went to Jake's since it was halfway in between.
Any excuse to have beer and pizza is always good. But the pizza, eek! The pizza dough was just awful. It tasted like they never proofed the dough (I'm not baking expert by any means). It was cardboard chewy. They said they were understaffed so maybe the person making the dough was sick but I was really upset to share this with my friend. He has written off the Gilroy Garlic Special. :( -

The worst pizza I have had the displeasure of tasting in a long time. The look and taste of frozen pizza but worse.
My quest to find a decent local take-out pizza suffered a serious setback with this order. Looking for an alternative to Domino's, BJ's or Round Table, I ordered from Jake's...big mistake. I attempted to serve this cardboard pizza to family and guests for a Sunday afternoon football game get- together. Here are some of the comments about this tasteless slice of yuck:
"not worth the calories" This person then proceeded to pour a bowl of cereal.
"Horrible stuff, why did you order this, Mom?
"This tastes like frozen pizza'
"I can't eat this'
Now I have two half eaten pizzas sitting on my counter, my family is eating cereal and I just wasted $40.00. -

This is a great social hangout place as well as a good pizzeria. There are certainly better places and worse places and I have never had a bad experience yet.
I think the tables are a bit too close together and because of this conversations from other tables often bleed together.
Another thing I have noticed is that always the cashier (whoever it is) never seem to be all that friendly. Just take your order and money and that's it. Would be worth another star for the customer service
Overall good pizza and great atmosphere - especially for Sharks fans -

I've had their pizzas, but just recently tried some items off their grill menu.
The pizzas were okay...I'm a thin crust girl. I wouldn't say it's any better than pizza you would get from Domino's or Round Table, and it's much more convenient, cheaper, and faster to order from those stores.
Tried the L.A. Hot Sausage and had some of their cheeseburger as well. I had heard previously that their burgers are bomb, but the cheeseburger was very, VERY normal. Yes, it has a lot of toppings (tomatoes, onions, lettuce, some kind of sauce...) but there was nothing special about the bread or the meat. In fact, I found the patty pretty flavorless.
The L.A. Hot Sausage was a butterflied hot link between a bread roll. The sausage was good, though I wish it had more of a kick to it. Again, loaded with toppings (onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard, relish), but not sure if it was worth the $6. I will say that it was filling though.
The fries were pretty good. They're thick cut, and nice and mashed on the inside. Each sandwich also came with a bag of chips.
Overall, don't think it's really worth the prices. It's fairly dim inside with 1 or 2 arcade games in the corner, so I don't see this as an ideal hang out spot either. -

Jake's is similar to the Garret and the boardwalk.
As always the Gilroy pizza is where it's at. The Gilroy is a garlic combination pizza. There is no-refill on sodas here which is kind of weird but the pizza is very good. I think the rest of the food is mediocre but hey all you need is one really good item to make it and Jake's has that. -

If you think Jake's has good pizza, you have no idea what good pizza tastes like. The crust is a failure, like Bisquick--to doughy and without any flavor whatsoever; this is a bad crust, period. As a result, the rest of the pizza is flat, hardly tastes like anything, dry and unappealing. I had to add extra marinara to taste it. Seriously, this pizza wasn't much better than I could get from a carryout chain. I have a half a pizza left in the fridge; maybe I can make my own crust and sauce, and save the toppings. But the toppings are nothing special, either.
If you've been to NYC or Boston or even Philly, and you know what a good pie tastes like, do not waste your money here, and do not listen to the rubes who don't know any better. Hell, even a good Chicago deep-dish is far superior. Service was meh at best. At half the price, it might be worth it, but only if you are really hungry and drunk. -

This place is ok, if I didnt have any other choices. I got the phillycheese steak sandwhich and it was extremely greasy. My bf got a buffalo chicken sandwhich and I think it had way too much kick. The hot sauce made the sandwhich very difficult to eat. The curly fries were good though. It is a great place to watch sports games, but other than that, I wouldn't come to eat here. Maybe just to have a beer and watch the games.

Not exactly the best pizza in the Bay Area, but great ambience. A good place to bring your children, your team, or your family. Very friendly and welcoming staff help you have a good time, and friendly customers make it a great place to go.
I love their vegetarian pizza and their Ham and Cheese sandwich. Beer is always cold, too, which doesn't hurt! -

This location seems to go down hill every time i visit now. The pizzas are not cooked good enough and is not as good as all other locations. If you like warm beer this is the place to go, I've told them about this and they don't care, i guess. All my friends agree about the warm beer.
I will go to boardwalk or saratoga locations from now on, they are much better and the beer is colder. these locals also listen if you ask for well done, or cooked a certain way. Also, the prices keep going up, almost $6.00 for a simple salad..WOW!
Ok, so I went for dinner with some friends this evening. Since the remodel, I think that things have improved...the beer is much colder and I'm happy for that. Now, on to the service...the hispanic gentleman that works the front has not changed with the rest of the restaurant...He seems to be annoyed at times to do his job and is really bad about a minor acknowledgment if he's busy...just takes a look or a finger to say be there soon without even saying a word..He's been this way as long as I've been going there, and that a long time...
Tonight after waiting at the bar for a beer..even though he saw me, he chose to ignore me..So, I just got up and went home for a beer instead.
I'll be back, but if he's there I'll go elsewhere. -

Just had my daughter's 9th bday lunch at Jake's following a Planet Granite party. It was so awesome. I had 30 ish 9 year olds, toddlers, and parents in the restaurant and the staff was so accomodating. I ordered the pizza's in advance and they had them ready soon after we arrived. They graciously refilled our drinks by the pitcher and I must have used all of their plates for our guests and the cake ( I forgot my plates for the cake). Even though we probably annoyed some of the other patrons, the staff was so kind and continually asked us if we needed anything. My guests both young and old loved the food and the service. Special thanks to David who was so kind to us. I would go there again and again for a family dinner, casual lunch, or throw another post party lunch/dinner. Also...there is a great back area which is like a Vegas for kids...tons of games and toys to entertain the kids while the parents kick back and relax while watching one of their many flat screens. Really great!

I live near the Jake's of Saratoga, and this Jake's isn't too different. Family friendly fun (if I had a family to bring).
Ordered the BBQ Chicken pizza, and it actually wasn't too bad, but I wasn't really hungry to begin with, so even though my friend and I split a small pie, it was still way too filling for me.
I guess Jake's, the Garrett, the Boardwalk, and the Oasis (the one in Menlo Park) all have pretty much the same menu, and the quality of the food is pretty consistent all across the board.
Nothing so special that I have to keep coming back for more though, or maybe it's more because I pretty much have been to all of those places so many times in the past. -

Jake's is an awesome place if you're looking for a chill hangout at a pizza joint. Two words: GILROY SPECIAL. It's fully loaded with everything you could possibly desire on a pizza! Garlic (of course), sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, and more. It's the best. Get it.
Other recommended items: chicken strips, onion rings, curly and regular fries, tuna melt, cheeseburger, patty melt, philly cheesesteak, quesadillas (yes, I am quite a frequent visitor). The dessert cups are amazing, and often sell out because they are so delicious and light! The tiramisu is my favorite, but the almond dessert cup is also really good. This is why I favor the Sunnyvale location slightly more than the others.
Less one star for the average customer service and the fact that they don't seem to have nearly enough dessert cups available for my consumption. =D -
Review from Kevin C.
Came at 7:15 on a Friday night. There were still a few tables when we arrived, though the place filled up during our meal.
Ordered two large pizzas and a large chef's salad... it was way too much for the six of us. (A large pizza can feed three really hearty eaters or four average people.) We had half a pizza and about a third of the salad left over. You know what that means... pizza for breakfast!
The pizza was fantastic. Lots of melted cheese, plenty of fresh toppings. Gilroy special, very nice. Just right, not overpoweringly garlicky. Barbecue chicken, also very nice but a little strange. (Barbecue sauce and pineapple on a chicken and onion pizza, not exactly your everyday pie.)
I'd like to try the combo, which some yelpers have recommended. Both the above specials have special sauces (zesty ranch and barbecue, respectively), so I'm interested to see how the regular pizza sauce is. Note that for the create-your-own pizzas, artichoke hearts aren't considered a premium topping. (Amici's charges extra.)
One of my friends was actually really pleased with the crust. I guess it was pretty good. I don't really notice the crust unless it's bad (Tony & Alba's, I'm looking at you... Amici's too, I shouldn't have to request my crust unburnt).
I didn't have any of the chef's salad, but it looked good. Ham, cheese, slices of hard-boiled egg. Lettuce looked fresh. Dressing on the side.
I'm not sure, but I think the cashier might have messed up the soda size. We were given (and charged for) mediums, though I *think* I ordered larges. I might have forgotten to specify, so maybe it was my fault. I don't think there's free refills for soda, which is a minor bummer.
All in all, service was very good... though limited because you have to go pick up your food from the window.
Kind of a sports bar type of atmosphere. Sports memorabilia of the local teams (Giants, A's, etc) decorates the walls. At least two flat-screen TVs showing whatever games are on. Several booths and tables, plus seating at the bar. (Orders are taken at the cash register, at the near end of the bar.) Arcade and restrooms in the back.
The parking lot is kind of... well... iffy. There was a small pile of broken glass from a car window. Some of the cement parking blocks were broken. The neighboring businesses are a martial arts center and a liquor store. The whole shopping center, including the 24 Hour Fitness, looks kind of run-down. I personally would think twice before visiting at dark. 'Toga location gets the nod for this reason.
There's a second (nicer) parking lot to the left of Jake's, which has far fewer cars. That also means fewer witnesses should anything happen, though.
My top 3 requests for Jake's would be delivery service, a self-serve soda fountain, and a well... less shady-looking location.
The Saratoga Jake's has a website with menu and prices. Everything is pretty much the same. http://www.jakesofsara.../Listed in: Separate Checks, Hanging With Mr. Cuper

I needed a place to watch Game One of the ALCS so I headed over to Jake's. Ordered up a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, fries, and a beer, sat back and enjoyed a Red Sox win. Perfect!
Jake's is one of those places that is way casual; safe for kids to run around in - there's a little arcade room next to the dining room; serves good food - pizzas are uniformly good, sandwiches of every variety, even good salads; has a wide variety of seating - want to sit at a bar? a booth? push a few tables together? The staff is friendly and helpful, too.
It has a great family, neighborhood feel to it. The people in line with me were these: ahead of me were two 30s women with three little kids between them; behind me was a dad and his two teenage sons. While I was there people came and went, often greeting other guests or joining them at their table - it was obvious that Jake's has its "regulars." The whole night was typical of Jake's - families, friends, everybody out for a good time and some good food in a fun atmosphere.
Jake's gets Five Stars 'cause for this type of place it's "as good as it gets." -

I'd been sick for a few days -- you know how it goes, tired of what's in the house but not really wanting to go anywhere too far away or too busy? Decided to wander in here because it's close by and I wanted a midrange cheeseburger. You know, the kind of burger that's somewhere between McDonald's and an $18 Kobe burger -- something you sit down for, but don't want to tip for. That kind of burger.
They totally delivered. That was a very nice midrange cheeseburger -- flavorful meat, slightly toasted soft bun, American cheese. Kudos. Unfortunately I have yet to find a place that offers a really good midrange cheeseburger AND really good fries. The fries were OK, but they had that slightly artificial taste to them that I usually associate with batter coating, though these weren't. As far as square steak fries go, the ones at Daphne's are better.
Ambiance-wise, this place reminds me a lot of St. John's, but with pizza, and less booze. The dark and slightly sketchy parking lot makes you think this place is a total dive bar, but, nah, reminded me a lot of St. John's, with the wall menu in handwriting font and colorful awnings and dark wood booths and so on.
Lots of kids there tonight. Good place for kids.
It was a little eyebrow-raising that a burger, fries and a drink cost me over $10 (damn it, I hate being single, you can't share fries). But still, Jake's is close enough to my house that I'd put it on the list for my midrange cheeseburger craving needs. -

Damn good pizza for not very much money. Many of the other pizza joints, especially Round Table, are far more expensive than this little place.
Fortunately, it's about a mile from my house. I could even walk here and burn the pizza off. -

I've been going to Jake's since my high school days.
I came here the other day with my hubby and one of our guy friends to have some beers and pizza. Lemme tell ya... Pizza is the best!!! The cheese is soo good and the beer is mouth water (and I'm not a beer person).
But customer service isn't all that great... it could be better. Maybe add one more person to the staff or fire some people there (they seem to slack off).
This place isn't packed nor empty... it's always busy considering that there is always a table available for someone.
Prices are decent-- large pizza (feeds about 3-4 people; depending how much you can eat) is about $20.00
I hope Jake's don't shut down b/c some businesses have shutdown in that shopping center. Like the tanning salon. -

Good solid pizza. The toppings are always fresh and the meats are decent, especially the linguicia. Their style isn't the gourmet wood-fired pizza or anything, but just regular old-fashioned pizzas.
Like Jake's of Saratoga, the restaurant is well suited to large groups. -

The Gilroy Special. That's all you need to know about this place. It's absolutely one of the best pizza's I've had, and is one of my top five favorites. Right behind the Gilroy is their awesome Combination (also in my top five coincidentally).
One reason why I love this place so much is just how it reminds me of the little league days. You'd play a game, and no matter if you win or lose, coach would take you to the local pizza parlor where you'd stuff yourself on pizza and soda while running around fighting for quarters to stuff into video games. Jake's has all that, plus TV' for local sports.
Prices are good, the mozzarella sticks are addicting, and their sandwiches are hidden gems. Just don't come here if you're on a diet : ) -

Service is terrible. Pizza is good but watch out for everything else.
Had the worst and smallest 8$ salad with nothing but lettuce and a couple of cherry tomatoes. everything was limp and soggy. after i returned the salad the manager told me there was nothing wrong with it. My girlfriend works at a salad bar for sizzler and she wouldnt even touch the plate. They Did not offer me another salad or a refund, until i sat down an finished my pizza and complained that they didnt even bother to bring me another one.
Fungus nats everywhere in this place too. wonder how clean it really is. I found 2 bugs floating in my beer within an hour . Jakes pizza is good but i would avoid this location. several other people i know will not eat here but they love jakes. Id go to the garret on bascom. They are legit there.

tried this place b/ca i bought the coupon from Groupon.
the place is big with many TV, I call this place sport bar.
we order the large pizza which is huge and think crust, so yummy (crispy outside and soft in the middle) however, since the pizza menu is so simple, some of the choices is not that tasty.
We pick 1/2 golden greek, 1/2 garlic chicken supreme. the golden greek was good but the chicken supreme was ok, nothing special.
I only ate 2 slice of the garlic supreme, i had a heart burn and my throat was dry, and so did my husband. the next day, my husband had 2 acne on his face :( -

My favorite "normal" pizza in the bay area.
My review is based almost entirely on the food, and to a lesser extent the service. The ambiance is not ideal for me - it can get pretty crowded and noisy at times, especially during major sporting events or after little league games. But this doesn't affect my opinion of the food or how often I visit, thus 5 stars. -

Jake's is practically a historical landmark in Sunnyvale as i remember coming here for birthdays and various celebrations.
Besides nostalgia, Jake's Pizza has little else to offer. The pizza is pretty average, pretty amateur with little flavor in sauce, cheap cheese, and a forgetful crust. It hurts to say that about one of my childhood places but I'll be looking elsewhere to feed my pizza craving. -

Jake's is a great place to drink beer and watch a game on the big TV, or drink beer and share some of their tasty fondue, or my personal favorite, drink beer and play pinball. The biggest downside is the kids. They have this big arcade area where kids run around and scream. Everything else is good, though.
Note to parents: Feel free to bring your kids here, however, please mind them. Is that too much to ask? -
Review from Bill G.
I go to Jake's regularly with friends. It's a great neighborhood-style hangout: Dark inside without being too shady, casual atmosphere, and a varied enough menu to support different tastes. They make a great personal sized pizza, a real bonus for me because I often have a pizza jones but my friends don't. I get a pie while they order burgers, salads, the Philly, etc. Good selection of beer on tap. Service is minimal (you order at the counter) but the staff is really supportive of our group.
Be warned that Jake's is popular for youth sports team parties. At times it can be noisy and hard to find a table. -
Review from Kristine D.

As I sat in Jake's waiting for the buzzer to come to life and let me know that my food was ready for pickup I thought, this is what the show Cheers would have been like had it been set in a fast food restaurant.
Quaint, casual and fun, Jake's is part hangout, part club house. It is a restaurant ready for a evening with your buds. Just don't order a sandwich here, the place really has a better handle on pizza. Every pizza carried past us was a work of art. We began to suspect we'd really made a mistake in our ordering. Our suspicions were confirmed when hubby received the saddest Philly Cheese steak sandwich I'd ever seen!
As any sandwich aficionado knows, when done correctly a Philly cheese steak sandwich is loaded with peppers, cheese and steak. In fact, it should be so loaded that those three ingredients battle for breathing room by spilling out from between the sandwich roll holding them together. Let's just say we had to send out a search party for the sandwich ingredients for Jake's Philly Cheese steak sandwich.
This place also pours the smallest beer pitchers and doles out the smallest beer glasses I have ever seen. This all seems to be done to give patrons the impression they're getting more beer than they think but, I don't like optical illusions with my beer!
Yet, I will most likely return to Jake's. I've got to know if the pizza was as good as it looked. Also, it's a great place to hang out not just with your buddies but, also your kids. Mine were able to play video games in my full view. Hubby was able to watch sports. Everyone was happy --- and how often does that happen in a restaurant choice? -
Review from Kate L.

Good pizza but don't send it back. After the first bite of pizza we quickly discovered that although the crust was crispy on the bottom but doughy on the top. After asking the kitchen to throw it back to cook some more, we were delighted to commence our dinner. It looked great ! We were more than disappointed to discover that the parchment or wax paper was stuck on the bottom of the pizza. Back to kitchen we go. In the end Jake's cooked a new pizza for us. Unfortunately we had to go through the process.
Word of advice.... When ordering a pizza with many toppings ask to cook the crust a little longer. It will be worth it. -
Review from Darrin J.
San Jose, CA
Jake's is a classic neighborhood family pizza joint. From the outside it looks like a dive bar but fortunately on the inside it reasonably decorated, clean, and has both booths and tables. The big question is whether or not the Pizza is any good (or the large selection of sandwiches, salads and pub grub). The short answer is absolutely. We had the combo which had a nice combination of a generous amount of meats (e.g. Canadian bacon, peperoni, ground beef, sausage, etc.) and vegetables (e.g. olives, peppers onions, etc.). The sauce was on the tangy side which I enjoyed (although I prefer more of a sweet sauce) and the cheese was very nice. The crispy crust was very nice as well.
Bottom line...good place for pizza (and a good selection of beer and wine) and I want to try the sandwiches.
