I came to Jadis with my monthly girls night group and we all had a really nice time. Jadis is a French wine bar/ small plate restaurant with a cozy/ cavernous feel created by dark lighting, lots of wood, and wine bottles stacked in each and every nook and cranny.
They have a substantial wine list and you can order by bottle, carafe, or glass. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and as we were seated, our waitress informed us that it was happy hour until 7pm and all glasses of wine were half price. We were pleased to hear this, as the wines by the glass were already very moderately priced... so our half price glasses were literally $4 each. I had a nice glass of sancerre.
Since all the food is small plate/ tapas style, we ordered as a table. Everything we ate was delicious (we tried a bunch of stuff including ordering both the assiettes of charcuterie and fromage). Some highlights were the country pate, serrano ham, mushroom truffle risotto puffs, popeye quiche (spinach & goat cheese), and poireaux quiche (leek & gruyere). The cheeses were also delicious, especially the Pierre Robert, which literally melted in your mouth and the brie goat, which was creamy and wonderful! All the food came with perfectly thin-sliced and toasted baguette, which we managed to eat several baskets of.
At the end of the meal, our waitress offered us dessert- creme brulee, chocolate chip bread pudding, and a molten chocolate cake. We decided to go for gold and order one of each. Each was decadent and rich and just plain delicious. We practically fought each other for the last few bites :)
Overall, a really great place to go with a date or a group of friends. Its a casual atmosphere but could easily lend itself to a romantic evening of wine and cheese.
This is one of those places that you probably wouldn't stop into unless you were looking for it. So glad that I did! We stopped in on a monday night after eating dinner a few blocks up. This place is so cute & cozy - old school decor that includes exposed brick walls and wine bottles galore. They have plenty of table seating and a decent sized bar. They also have larger tables and lounge area in the back including a few leather sofas. This place is suitable for a intimate date or a night out with a group of friends.
They have a diverse wine selection and a killer tapas menu - the cheese platter was simply amazing. Not being familiar with all the names of the wines and cheese, the waitresses were totally on top of it. They could ramble off a exact description of anything and everything.
I'm a fan of this place, they can expect me back. However, they'll have to restock the wine shelfs after i leave.
Really good little place - kind of perfect for the weather turning a bit colder and you're seeking a place to hang out for a little while, eat some comfort food (well, french comfort food) and have some nice red wine.
We had the olives to start (already pitted - weird) and some mushroom croquettes which were good and then shared the pumpkin soup. After that we split a salad (fantastically fresh - really great chicken and balsamic on it) and the meat and cheese plate. Add to that the meat and cheese plate (careful with the duck rillettes as they take an acquired taste) and some glasses of wine and it was just what I was looking for.
The wine list, in my opinion, is where they shine. You get some great wine and the prices for by the glass don't get to double digits. Honestly this is the way things would be if the French and/or the Spanish (and/or just about any meditteranean country) ran the world - no such thing as bad wine.
But I digress - let's not enter into a discussion of world hegemony and just say that I recommend this place. My only thought - I was hoping this would be a cheap night (long story) but it came to $50 a person. That said, we had 4 glasses of wine and, in recounting the story, a fair amount of food so its not out of control by any means.
I came here a few weeks ago with a date, and Jadis is lovely. The wine selection was pretty good, our waitress was pleasant and present without hovering, and the space was beautiful. I asked a few of the staff for recommendations and they didn't disappoint, which was great. The bathrooms were also neat and clean - crucial! I didn't try any of the food, so I'll have to update when I go back.
The only real con was that there was a ton of noise. I don't remember if the music was really loud or if the acoustics just amplified everyone's conversations, but I do know that I had to repeat everything I was saying - not a good impression on a first date! Conclusion: come here with a good friend with great hearing who won't care about asking you to repeat yourself if you're a soft talker.
Good food, good wine and good price. What more can you ask for?
We went last Saturday night there because Cafe Habana was crowded so the birthday girl changed her plans. When we arrived at almost 9pm that place was not packed yet it started to become a full house later on into the night.
The group ordered a bottle of Prosseco and it was yummy. We tried the cheese platter, and we ordered the Duck terraine and Quiche Lorreine (thanks to the recommendation of fellow yelpers!). They were delicious. The terraine was very tasty! It was waaay better than the pate dish at Death & Co. and at a lower price. We also had the pinor noir that was excellent, earthy and extremely smooth finish.
The staff was friendly although M. commented that our waitress didn't had much idea of their own wine list. That's not a big deal in my book.
Go, you should have a good time. We'll go back there again.
Stumbled on to this place by accident en route to 'inoteca and decided the cozy atmosphere was worth a try. The wines were average-to-above-average but I definitely liked the laid-back vibe and lack of snobbery, and the fact that it's located outside of the central clusterfuck of the LES.
On our way to Freeman's on an already bitter cold, October night, D and I spotted Jadis and decided to give it a go. It looked so cozy from the outside and the long bar so inviting. Really, we couldn't not go in!
We grabbed two stools at the bar despite the fact that there were several tables available. We like having a view of the action (if you know what I mean, heh heh). The menu is perfect to share with a selection of small plates, paninis, salads and some delectable sounding apps. The wine menu is beautiful. Seriously. Something for everyone at very reasonable prices. I don't think I saw a bottle over $50. D and I split one of the meat and cheese platters, the Anna Salad (pear, goat cheese, spinach and beet) and a Pinot Noir from Loire Valley. We wanted to get the bacon wrapped scallops, too but decided to see if we *really* needed them after our order. I mean, you always need bacon wrapped anything, but the platter was a really generous sampling of salami chorizo, manchego, blue cheese and a lovely smoked ham - along with an ENTIRE baguette that D and I not only finished, but the sweet man behind the bar asked if he could get us another (yes, you can and now you also see the benefits of sitting at the bar)
There are several leather sofas in the back which looked very inviting to kick back with a few friends and a few bottles. The bar was perfect to catch up over a glass, and the tables fit the bill for a more romantic meal with a date. Personally, I couldn't have asked for a more cozy, satisfying find on a crisp, blowy night and look forward to Jadis keeping me warm a few more times this winter.
came here last night for the first time. we were looking for something simple, quiet and good, and we got just that. Jadis is the type of place you walk by numerous times without stopping in - and you don't know what you are missing. The wine selection speaks for itself. We got the escargot, the chicken panini, and a cheese/meat platter. I didn't love the escargot or the the chicken panini - however, I think that we just ordered incorrectly. This is the type of place you come to for wine, cheese, meat, olives and of course their delicious, fresh bread! I will be back!
Jadis is a lovely little/a little bigger than little, wine bar with delicious food, and a great atmosphere. They know all about the wines they serve, and they have a nice selection of beers as well. No liquor though... By far the thing I love most about Jadis is the staff.
I had my birthday party here and they were so accommodating and patient with our large group. I called ahead to reserve a spot, the owner is such a pleasant and helpful person. I hose Jadis becasue they weren't strict about everyone arriving at once to eat, and they were cool with the group gettign bigger throughout the night, as long as we stayed in our lare section or by the bar.
They saved us a great loungey area in the back with several couches and a large coffee table for food and drinks. The waitress was attentive all night, and didn't mind if people helped themselves to drinks at the bar. Everyone mentioned how it was a great location for a not-so-rowdy birthday party.
I just went to Jadis for a second time a few weeks ago, but this time we did not have a reservation, yet we were a large group of 12 people, who trickled in at different times. Again the owner was so kind and accommodating and the waitress as well. We had the table for 2 hours before people who had a 9pm reservation arrived. They allowed us to add more chairs as more people arrived and they were very cool about latecomers ordering food 20 minutes before we had to leave.
Overall I think Jadis is a great place for large groups and the tables upfront are cozy and romantic, so imagine it's a good place for a small group as well.
Definitely go!
This place was incredibly gracious with our birthday group of 7, even though we got a bit loud/rowdy at the end. The service was great and our waitress took the time to explain the menu well. The staff also brought fresh wine glasses in regular intervals which was tres classy.
In terms of food, I recommend the crab cakes, bacon-wrapped scallops, meat platter, and cheese platter.
Jadis is FANTASTIC!
pros:
- everything on the menu looked wonderful. there wasn't an overwhelming array of options and it was thus relatively easy to choose something for the night.
- we got the duck rillettes, the artichoke & parmesan crostinis, the quiche lorraine and the creme brulee. all absolutely delicious.
- cute decor
- really nice ambiance
- good service
cons
- got really packed as the night went on (9pm-ish; when we arrived at 7:30, it was totally fine); it might be hard to get seats
overall, it was a great experience. the back had some nice couches and an open area which looked pretty cool. we were a bit wary about coming here because all the reviews raved about the wine, but it's a perfectly great place to go even if you don't drink.
Very unique little wine bar in the LES. We had the cheese and meat sampler - good stuff - no complaints. Just so so - not overwhelminglygood or bad. The staff was accomodating. Its a boring review but eh, what else would I say?
Jadis has a great wine list and lovely food. Great for a date, an evening out with old friends, or a party in the back with their super comfy couches. Also, the service is always great! Check out Jadis, you will not be disappointed!!
What a great little discovery and their prices are just right! My boyfriend and I went here and decided to order a few different plates and a bottle of wine.
For wine we went with a white wine from Spain and I loved it - very light & crisp. Our meal consisted of the salmon & cream cheese small puffs, mini chiches, escargot and we shared the grilled chicken with pesto & goat cheese panini. Everything was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of escargot so I thought it was a little rubbery. I'm sure great escargot is hard to come by unless you're willing to spend the money.
The atmosphere is very inviting and romantic. Dimly lit with dark wood tables, long dark bar, and the walls are dark brick. The front area has small tables for two and the back has a few larger tables and couches for parties of 6 or more. Great place for a small get together and the food is really excellent.
Unfortunately, I have to mention one downfall. The candles on the table are DANGEROUS. They don't have a cover and the flame is very high. Our napkin that was wrapped around our bottle of wine went up in flames. Not a huge issue because my boyfriend saved the day but damn that could have been ugly!! Besides all of that, we really enjoyed ourselves.
I came here on a Saturday night and I really, really liked it. The exposed brick, the tables in the front, the bar with stools and the lounge with sofas and tables in the back all lend itself to wine drinking, talking, lounging and enjoying time with friends. The wine and tapas are inexpensive. We had the manchego cheese and chorizo. Next time, I'm trying the quiche. The German riesling wine was exquisite.
The staff was very nice, friendly and attentive without being annoying. They never rushed us and we stayed until 2AM. This is going to be my new go-to place for unpretentious, relaxed lounging with friends.
After a friend suggested a visit to Jadis, I engaged in my typical research routine by scanning my fellow yelpers' reviews for something positive. I was pleased to see that everyone recommended this cozy wine bar and looked forward to sampling it myself.
I walked down the short staircase and descended into the rustic wooden spot. The front of the restaurant was lined with several intimate tables and a simple bar, while the rear section provided larger tables and loungy couches ideal for bigger groups. I felt relaxed and conveniently at home in the quaint Jadis...that is, until the host intercepted my path. "Can I help you?" he questioned, as he grabbed two menus. I crained my neck around him to scan the back room as I replied, "I am supposed to meet someone here and am just looking to see if they have arrived." Feeling unwelcome in the main dining section, I volunteered to wait at the bar.
When my friend arrived we walked towards the rear room to survey the scene. The host returned to prey on us once again. We requested seats at a larger 6 person table, since the restaurant was pretty deserted at the time. Instead, the man rudely offered us a cramped table that was pushed against the wall and adorned with stiff, backless stools. We tried to counter by insisting on the bigger table, but received a warning that if we sat there we would likely have to move as the restaurant fills up quickly; the table would be needed to accomodate a larger group. Surely I understood that, but we could have been addressed with more respect and in a kinder tone. We begrudingly took our uncomfortable seats at the tight two-person table.
Luckily our waitress was friendly and provided quick service, making up for the host's poor staff example. My sprirts were further brightened by a sweet, affordable bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and the laidback vibe provided by the casual decor. We ordered several of the French-style tapas plates as well. The tiny Crab Cakes looked exactly like those found in the Trader Joe's freezer section, but they tasted much worse. The bland nubbins were a waste of $6. Flaky, oily phyllo dough surrounded the fragrant Mushroom Truffle Risotto Puffs, which were crammed with 'shrooms, but lacked any visible risotto. What tasted like frozen Scallops were rubbery, but were salvaged by wrappings of perfectly cooked Bacon strips. The Georges Mesclun salad was topped with chicken, bacon, and gruyere. Again, the bacon was the star of the dish. Strips of hard cheese also added a subtle kick, but tasted more like Parmigiano-Reggiano than gruyere. The salad portion was much larger than the others plates and should be ordered with that thought in mind.
Unfortunately, adorable decor did little to save Jadis from a 3-star review based on mediocre service and cuisine.
Cute interior.
Staffs are friendly and nice, but not great service.
Food is good but small portion.
Good selection of wines and they are cheap!
Party more then 20 people is recommended (able to reserve back area with sofa)
Best. Wine bar. Ever.
Seriously though, comfortable seating, moderate prices, cozy decor, friendly service, yummy food -- who could ask for more?
Jadis is one of the few places in the LES that does not become overrun by mobs of people at night. I also appreciate that they allow you "save seats" for your late friends so we were able to hang out all night with friends coming in and out. The wine list is well composed, with plenty affordable options for people like me (us). The food is outstanding, it's not surprising or particularly inexpensive, but it is made to share and complements the wine perfectly. My friends repeatedly complained about the over abundance of lighting (it was right after work, we all looked a little haggard) and the "someone important" who was wine tasting in the back, but sitting right at the narrowest point in the room and blocking the bottleneck leading right into the lovely bathroom.
Our amazing food was as follows:
Yummy pitted Mixed Olives $3 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Meat and Cheese Plate $19 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Goat cheese, sun-dried tomato, pesto sandwich $10 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Tarte aux Poireaux $10 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Anna Baby Salad spinach with unique dry roasted raisin like beets, pear and goat cheese crumbles $10 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Smoked Beef Filet $9 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Mozzarella, fresh basil, tomato sandwich $9 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
3 more bottles of wine and our bill came to a modest $140! Yippie!
I've been to Jadis twice and was very happy both times. Lovely wine list, friendly service, lots to choose from on the menu. Ordered the crab cakes, cheese plate, & mini quiches on my first visit; had a lovely Rose & pinot grigio on my second visit...ordered crab cakes again as well. Lovely hang spot if you're with friends, but the second time I went it was post-jury duty & I was by myself right when they opened. Couldn't have been a better way to say farewell to jury duty. Highly recommended!
This is my new local find. When the bridge and Tunnel crowd hits the East Village and the LES on the weekends sometimes it's impossible to find an escape from girls who can't walk in Stilettos and guys who want to show you their new Italian flag tattoo. Jadis is that escape.
It's an intimate low lit wine bar with delicious appetizers, tasty wine, and amazing olives. The cheese plate it to die for, If you stick to olives, cheese and a couple glasses of vino you'll be in the clear. I will admit, it does get a little pricey, but definitely worth the splurge.
Very fun spot! Meat and minisalad served on a wooden cutting board, carafe of red, and a more exuberant clientele than you'd usually find in a wine bar.
These aren't your house-made salumis and ultra exotic wines, but Jadis isn't full of folks feeling unnecessarily special because they are buying house-made salumis and ultra-exotic wine either.
A welcome oasis from the morass of weekend mating ritual mayhem in which the rest of the area seems to be mired on the weekend. We'd definitely work Jadis into the rotation for a chill going out spot if it were in our neighborhood.
Adorable wine bar with yummy tapas-style dishes on the menu. Very spacious and would recommend it for a laid back night out. The ambience is quaint and comfy, nothing pretentious about it but far from divey as well. Look forward to hanging out here more often in the future!
Alleluia!
After 2 years of missing out on Jadis during my New Yorker days, I finally made it to a "last-supper" shindig with a couple of friends on my last night of a weekend visit. As expected, the place was simple and beautiful with the exposed brick walls, wood-and-leather decor. We sat comfortably in the large couches in the back. The wine list was extensive and, as always, beyond my comprehension. My wine-loving friend seemed to be excited by it, if that is any indication of "good." My Malbec from Argentina was delicious and smooth. We also thoroughly enjoyed the food: pressed sandwiches, salads, and quiches were all incredibly yummy. In particular, the Georges salad (grilled chicken, arugula, bacon, parmasan with balsamic vinegarette) was out-of-this-world. On this night (Monday), they also featured a live jazz band which, for me, is an automatic ++!
I could not have wished for a better way to end my oh-so-sweet weekend homecoming visit to NYC. Jadis offered the comfortable and yet sophisticated ambiance that was a perfect complement to a few friends' see-ya-later dinner.
Yep. This is everything a wine bar should be...cozy, with exposed brick, a great wine list with a lot of inexpensive, delicious wines to try & some snacks on the menu to help anchor down that wine so you can keep drinking it ;) Our server made great suggestions, the food came out quickly and hit the spot - the artichoke crostini, mini quiches, mozzarella and tomato pressed sandwich and tasty mini crabcakes to split. The pinot blanc, chenin blanc and sauv blanc were all so good, with the sauv blanc edging out the others slightly. Tucked away but easy to find, full of friendly patrons and staff, this place was a perfect summer treat. I would definitely come back in the winter and try the reds...
Went here in January with a large group (10, maybe?) and although the place is small & crowded & a little on the loud side, they were incredibly accommodating...
They put up with slightly staggered arrival times, indecision over food - and didn't get huffy when we didn't consume copious amounts of alcohol (which, given that we were taking up two tables on a Friday night and were there for a pretty long time I was impressed with).
Food was very good, IMO - big salads, yummy quiches. Certainly more than enough for dinner. Can't report on the wine, really - we got two bottles of sparkler b/c we were celebrating, so I didn't focus too much on the other varietals and pricing.
I would definitely go back again if I'm in the neighborhood, although probably wouldn't travel out of my way for it, given the abundance of good wine bars sprinkled throughout the city.
Great cozy wine bar in the LES with a good atmosphere. The brick walls, hanging paintings and wine related decor gave the place a nice comfortable yet cool vibe. There is also a comfy couch area in the back, good for hanging out with a large group. I had my birthday party here a few weeks ago and everyone had a good time. Although I was not the one organizing it, it seems like they had a pretty easygoing policy on groups, unlike many other places in Manhattan. Our server was also super helpful and friendly, recommending wines, and making sure we had enough food and drinks. They also have a good, affordable wine selection and their menu offers many delicious small plates. My favorites were the quiches, cheeses and paninis. I'd definitely come back here again!
A cute little place with a decently priced wine list. The atmosphere is cozy and dimly lit -- the kind of place you want to share a bottle of wine with an old girlfriend and catch up, which is exactly what I did. Service was impeccable and I had a lovely experience.
The weather outside was frightful, but Jadis, you were so delightful...
We had a fabulous night at Jadis! I planned a surprise b-day for the hubs and they made it quite easy. The rear sofa area wasn't available that Sat. night, unfortunately, but since there were just eight of us I agreed that a table would be fine. I asked to be seated away from the door, based on previous reviews, and they obliged. In addition, I told them I wouldn't have an exact headcount until shortly before the reservation, and they were fine with that as well.
The surprise was a success (my husband is quite gullible) and the place was a hit with everyone. The wine selection is excellent and reasonably priced, as is the food. I seem to remember that a good-sized carafe of riesling was $16, and a six-piece app was $6. As noted, Jadis obviously loves puff pastry, but so do I. Two puff-pastry standout items: the one with mushrooms and the one with bleu cheese and pear -- scrumptious. We also had shared a panini, salad, and some other things I'm forgetting now (we had a LOT of wine). Also a cheese plate -- we asked for recs based on the wines, and they put together a marvelous plate with generous portions -- plenty for the eight of us.
Our waitress seemed a bit tense at first, but she was generally efficient and made excellent recs and warmed up somewhat after a while. Another friend had brought a cake, which they kept in the fridge and brought out complete with candles and the whole shebang. There was a $15 plating fee -- quite reasonable compared w/ other places I've done b-days at.
As other Yelpers have noted, the place is warm and cozy and homey, dimly lit and convivial -- really perfect for a winter night. The sofa area in the back is a great space for a small gathering (next time!). The prices are eminently reasonable and make it easy to gather friends for a night out in these tough times. I was so glad it worked out so well for the hubs's b-day!
Jadis is now on my short go-to list -- we'll be back for sure!
I hate saxophones. I really do. They ruin perfectly good pop songs and turn an otherwise sexy Rob Lowe into a total dork (see: "St. Elmo's Fire"...on second thought, don't). However, the saxophone player at Jadis is great and the unobtrusive live music adds to the vintage, dark wood decor and old-world-cool atmosphere. I've been to Jadis three times, twice for pre-Bowery Ballroom shows with my best friend and most recently for a birthday party. Each time was different, but I always found myself delightfully wasted on Riesling and Prosecco (i know, my sweet tooth embarrasses me too) by the end of the night. The waitress are helpful and really know their wines, and the kitchen's careful selection of panini and quiches make for perfect, indulgent snacks.
Highly recommended for romantic dates, parties, and any other situations where you want to be able to hear the person next to you. Call ahead to reserve the chic leather seating in the back room!
I avoid wine bars. Why? I just don't see the appeal in plunking down $20 for one glass of wine, and $$$ for little plates that don't satiate in some pretentious, trendy spot bursting at the seams with yuppies and yahoos.
Jadis, however, is different, for now that is. I intend on enjoying my time at Jadis until the yuppies, yahoos and their crotch fruit inevitably infiltrate and destroy, like they have so many of my favorite places.
I pray for the day when the sign on the door say "We like kids but the Dept of Health doesn't , but your dogs are welcome." You know, like in France.
All all around a great place to be. Great ambiance, stellar quiche, and pleasant staff. Cheese platter was perfect and the prices pretty. Good for a date, girls night out if you're in the area or just want some wine.
Oh yeah, scallops? do it.
I love wines, especially red. Any establishment that can transport me to another place, offer a welcoming vibe and serve my blood red addiction (they have a solid list and range of price points--definitely affordable.), is a winner in my book.
A friend of mine knows the owner (amiable and passionate about wine), which is how I was introduced soon after it opened. I go when I want to chat with friends and have a snack...or bring a date. Cozy, comfortable with romantic lighting that helps you look great and wine that makes you feel great. Happy, happy--joy, joy!!!
Maybe it's just me, but all i remember about this place is the wine being o-k and my dish being some SMALL OVERPRICED type of pastry-meaty-creamy thing. Oh and I was not rip roaring drunk or in a state of blacking out - it just wasn't that memorable. It was ok. But then again everything in NYC is... if it's not we export it to _______ .
I don't think i'll be leaving the comfort of the numbered streets to head down here again. Unless of course the night repeats itself and the restaurant we wanted to go to *COUGH Freemans is booked solid and we stumble upon this place because too many damn people are eating at all the other places.
I must say first off that this place is adorable. Seriously. It just has one of those brick walled, cozy, art gallery on our walls sort of feels to it - which I of course adore. And all you have to do is walk out onto the small balcony to the back (which overlooks onto a huge green lawn), or venture into the bathroom space (two separate stalls {which, by the way, I couldn't help but think would be an awesome place to have sex - random, I know - but the individual bathroom stall rooms (and yes, they are totally self-contained rooms) are that big that a girls mind just sort of goes there} with a really adorable washroom space in-between - very nice mirror and flowers displayed).
The wine menu is pretty happy, with a majority of the bottle totally affordable - which is almost unheard of in this city. Also, the food is really tempting. WE just did the cheese platter (which the waitress was quite helpful with) and one of the small plates (which turned out to be a sandwich when we were just expecting meat - what a pleasant surprise!). I really want to try one of the quiches - especially the super cheesy one. Such a good excuse to go back.
Which I will. As soon as I can convince another friend to adventure into the Lower East Side with me for a nice bottle of wine and some snackies. Any takers??
Picture-perfect subterranean wine bar....complete with Middle Earth-ish door and Amelie soundtrack playing. Attentive staff....doing all those things people at wine bars are supposed to do. The showing of the label, the smelling, the blah blah. I'll never get it. I don't particularly care about that.
Cozy, nice. Hidden away in the weirdness of the LES. Good.
Dude, I love this place. I bring friends here. Its awesome and such a good price. And to be honest every time I call last minute for a large party they always cater to me. I love it here.

Cute, cute place to hang out late at night (yes, it's possible to hang out at a place late at night in the LES without getting smooshed or breathed on by sweaty people decked out in cologne). Great wine selection and bites of food, friendly staff, and couches. My god! Couches!
Lovely little gem in the lower east side. It has a great French flare to it with a warm and inviting environment - like the place you can stay all night chatting with a friend over a glass of wine and some killer cheese selections.
Overall, the food was yummy and good for sharing. I really liked the paninis - they use this great crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside baguette and the size isn't overwhelming. (had the mozzarella, basil and tomatoes-delish)
Other things to note: amazing wine selection, they use communal tables so if you want a quite date this may not be the place - better for friends or small groups. Feel like relaxing after a long day? Chill out with a glass of pinot in one of the massive leather couches in the back...kind of feels like an old French man's library...
I'll be the first to say I don't know a whole lot about wine. I stumbled upon this place completely by accident with a group of friends as we walked around SoHo last Friday.
It was pretty much point and stab at the menu, but we got a very good bottle of white wine and split a dessert (chocolate chip bread) that just disappeared before we'd even realized it, it was so good. The decor had a sort of old world charm, and the owner was very friendly. So if you're up for a fairly low key night with good music and good wine, I would definitely come here.
