Who would have thought that you could find a doctor on Yelp???

I made an appointment with her because of all of the reviews here -- in early Feb, but she couldn't see me for 3 weeks out as a new patient.  Then I HAD to get into see her because of a not so happy trip to the ER.  Long story short, I am probably her most special patient with the most random things that happen to my health, but she has been INCREDIBLY awesome through everything!  She's a one stop shop for a doctor - and makes the visit very enjoyable... well as enjoyable as going to a doctor can be.

Highly recommended!

The first time with someone new is always exciting and nerve wracking.  He or she's going to raise my blood pressure, listen to me breathe deeply, touch my breasts, touch my hooha... is there going to be chemistry?  Is this going to work??

With Dr. Jade, the answer is Yes. . . My first visit went swimmingly well.  The reception area was small but clean, and Jade saw me on time.  As we talked about my general health and concerns, she typed notes in her lappy.   Then, instead of a flimsy paper gown, she handed me a soft flannel leopard print gown and reminded me that the snap buttons go in the front.  Easy access,  always a plus in intimate moments.

She conducted my physical exam gently and we laughed about my old doctor, who actually wore a miner's light headband while exploring the cave.  She e-mailed a prescription to the pharmacy so that it would be waiting for me and said I could e-mail her anytime.  Overall, Jade was professional but personable--  she gives good bedside manner.

Of note: the Metropolitan Med Group charges a $99 annual fee for the modern conveniences that it offers.  This would include electronic scheduling, e-mailing your doctor (who is the one who will always see you), electronic refills on Rx's, same day appointments, etc.  Check their site out.  And thanks to other Yelpers' recommendations, that's how I found Jade.

she is great! she's totally fast but at the same time very throughly. I've always been afraid of doctors because I feel like they put you through third degree. The questions always seem uncomfortable. But nope, not Dr Schechter! She's kind and comforting. Explains everything really carefully without the medical blabber.

I'm no longer afraid of doctors, as long as it's Jade Schechter!

I've always had an aversion to hospitals and seeing the doctor. Also, I'm about as squeamish as they come ('ve got a mild case of germaphobia, have a mental block against swallowing pills, cringe at the sight/sounds of birthing on tv/movies, and shudder at the thought of needles and blood).

When it it became past due for my next physical, I started to feel nervous. I didn't have a general doctor in the city, and wasn't sure where to start. My friend recommended her doctor at the Metropolitan Medical Group, just steps away from Union Square. I made an appointment - so easy! - and signed up on the website to fill out my medical history. On the day of my appointment, I was still feeling a little uneasy, but the atmosphere didn't set off the same 'OMG it's a hospital. Diseases. Germs. Sickness.' vibe as a hospital usually would for me. I actually went window shopping right beforehand, so that helped to calm my nerves. The waiting room was small yet fairly comfortable.

Enter Dr. Jade Schechter. She greeted me with a warm smile and throughout the check-up, I kind of felt like I was just having a conversation with an old friend. I chatted with her about my medical history, etc while clad in a lobster print hospital gown. The visit was virtually quick and painless. She made me feel as comfortable as one could possibly be on such an occasion. Yeah, I'm still squeamish, but I would definitely recommend her!

Add another happy Yelper to the list!  I went to see Dr. Schechter today since I haven't had a checkup in a few years.  My appointment was at 12:30, and she saw me right on time (maybe even a little early?)!  She has a very pleasant, warm demeanor, and made me feel very comfortable.  With other doctors, I felt like they were waiting for ME to say/ask something, but Dr. Schechter asked me a bunch of relevant questions about my health and lifestyle without any prompting from me, which really impressed me.   I had some concerns of my own that I brought up and she was able to put me at ease by answering my questions and offering good recommendations.  She even asked me to send her a follow up email.  Also, a kind of random but cool thing about this office - they have homemade gowns that are super soft and WAY better than those flimsy paper things you'll get elsewhere.

Now I know what the fuss is all about! Dr. Schechter is great!!! After years of searching for a doctor I like, I think I've finally found her. I've finally found a doctor that is not a bot. She listens, she gives advice, she doesn't lecture you, and if she doesn't know something she says "I don't know". Imagine that...what a doctor should be but so hard to find.

I also like the Met's office. It doesn't feel like a medical office. It's very comfortable. And one more thing, they are years ahead of everyone else when it comes to taking advantage of available technology. When I made an appointment I received an email invite that I could save to my calendar. A link to a site where you fill out your medical history ahead of time so on the day of the first visit...no waiting. Your prescription is sent to your favorite drug store so you just show up a couple of hours later and it's ready. No brainer stuff that others are simply not doing.

Thanks for the recommendation Yelpers!

I chose Dr. Schecter as my pcp without knowing much about her or this medical group, simply because it is right around the corner from my work. My first impression of the office is that it doesn't feel like a dr's office which is nice for a change. It doesn't feel sterile and cold, and no rude receptionists. Dr. Schecter saw me right away which is also a nice change from my past visits to other doctors elsewhere. She explained things very clearly and was never in a rush. I also like the idea of being able to get same-day appointments, to email her with questions, and also have the option to utilize other specialists affiliated with the group (such as their herbalist, accupuncturist, etc.). I would recommend Dr. Schecter and the Metropolitan group to anyone seeking health care, because you will get superior health care here.

I had to dock a star because of punctuality.  First time my appointment was set back 5 minutes, no biggie.  Second time it was set back almost 20 minutes.  Seeing as I was on a lunch break with a crapload of things to do back at work those 20 minutes made a big difference.

But that's my only complaint of Dr. Schechter and of Metropolitan.  I love the convenience of booking appts online and having email accessiblity to my doctor, and the receptionist is always helpful and friendly.  Even the other doctors are nice!

And Dr. Schechter is a good balance of friendly and professional.  We do all the medical-y things we need to do, but I never feel rushed or hurried.  She was attentive to my health concerns and took time to go over each options and its pros/cons.

I seriously couldn't be happier with Dr Schechter, and I'll come back and change the rating if my appointments start on too.

IS THAT A WART!!

kidding: BUT now that I've got your attention. . .

Dr. Jade Schechter is super professional, while still being very down to earth and human-like [as opposed to robot-like which can still be kinda cool].  I have been abnormally hypochondriac-like, for lack of a better word, lately.  I coach 13-14 yr olds, hence I'm exposed to those nasty little viruses that spread among teens who've barely adapted the habit of washing their hands after the bathroom.  The last two times I went in to see Jade I was diagnosed with a mere cold or allergies, then leaving feeling kinda lame and whiny, which is like nails on a chalkboard for me - i despise whiny-ness.  She never once made me feel like I wasted her time though, and even gave me a print out of some tips to stay healthy during cold season.  Very cool doctor.

The Metropolitan Medical Group is very tech savvy - which saves a bunch of time and money!  You can do almost everything through email and find out a lot of information before you go on their website.

I just went to see Dr. Schechter (Jade) the other day to be my new primary care physician here in the city. I was really surprised by how young the staff seemed to be but they were super friendly and my visit went really smoothly so that was a plus.

Dr. Schechter was really friendly and knowledgeable when answering some of my questions and listening to my concerns. If you have a question you can just shoot her an email and she'll respond by the end of the work day which I thought was cool. I filled out all my medical history online before coming into the office so the appointment went really quickly because I wasn't sitting in the waiting room filling out a ton of paperwork before seeing her.

I was expecting to go in and be called into the exam room by a nurse and then only see Jade for the typical 5 minutes you normally see an HMO doctor but I was in the room talking with her about my health for the entire time I was at the office which was really great to see.

She only gets 4 stars because it was my first time and I want to see how good her referral was before I give her higher marks:-)

even though i'm no longer a fidi worker bee, i still make the trip downtown to see dr. schechter.  she's knowledgeable, kind, unassuming and thoughtful.  the things i've seen her for have run the gamut of necessary shots before our trip to cambodia (for those of you who are afraid of needles, she's got a light touch and i barely felt anything), seasonal allergy woes and other run of the mill thingies.  she always takes the time to check in with me, update my medical history and, most importantly, answer any questions i may have.  that last bit alone makes her stand out from most doctors i've had in the past.

Dr. Schechter is great!  It's taken me almost 4 years to find a doctor who I actually like in this city.  She's young, but extremely smart and helpful.  Since I sit at a desk all day I constantly have shoulder and neck problems and she told me about this site that you can put a reminder on your computer to fix your posture.  It's awesome!
The fact that you can make appointments and get lab results via email is fantastic...yay for boutique medical groups!

My roommate, my friend and I were searching for doctors and we all ended up finding Jade.  We searched separately.

I had this infected finger and she was able to see me that day at 10am (I called at 9am when the clinic opens).  She said she is available for same day appointments if it's an emergency, but may get booked up towards the end of the day (my manager at work also called for an appt later that day). Jade was very nice and reassuring, and explained to me what the hell was going on with my finger.  I felt that I could trust her to stick a razer in my finger to drain out the icky pus, and it felt sooo goood afterwards.  I also told her some of the abnormal results in a recent physical I had and she wanted to do some follow up testing to see if anything was up.  Since the original test I had was pretty extensive, she was cool with me emailing her my results, and she responded back quickly with her assessment, saying I was fine. Yay!  I think I took all her business cards that were sitting out in the clinic and gave one to each coworker that day since they were complaining about how it took 3 months to get a freakin doctors appt.  If you need labwork done, you have to go on your own (nearest lab is 3-4 blocks away closer to union square) and they can email you the results.

The clinic itself is very clean, and they're all nicely organized.  You can fill out your medical history online and Jade could access the medical profile from her laptop.  They even send an email to confirm the appointment and it goes into your google calendar (maybe cuz I used a gmail address but still pretty cool!).  I know Jade accepts cigna and blue cross blue shield cuz I looked her up on both listings, and the clinic said they accept major forms of insurance.  There is a 79 dollar yearly charge for the clinic, I think for the ability to have same-day appts and emailing your doctor.  You can waive it (they'll have to refund you if you already gave credit card number online while filling out med history) but really up to you (my roommate waived it, my other friend didn't).  All in all, it's pretty awesome to be able to find such a helpful and attentive doctor that's close to work and the bus lines.

Dr. Schecter (or Jade as she signs her emails!) is great.  My boyfriend and I were new to the area last year and both needed primary care docs.  We decided to go with Metropolitan and have both been very satisfied.  Dr. Schecter has been very caring, has very helpfully answered any questions I have had, and has been extremely prompt with all email correspondence.  I emailed her over the weekend once about a prescription that was running out on Monday and she got right back to me (in time to have it filled and picked up on Monday afternoon)!

Dr. Schechter just joined our group last fall and I'm not surprised she's already filling up quickly.  She's a local Stanford grad who trained at Tufts in Boston, specialized in primary care and preventive health with a strong understanding in complementary and alternative medicine.  Feel free to read more about her at www.metropolitan.md.
