I found Cantonese speakers! I found Cantonese speakers! Ok, so honestly, that's not a big deal, and my Cantonese sucks. Onward to the review...I have no idea how this place stays in business. It's usually empty when the lady and I come...so my wild imagination would like to say this is really just a front for the triads...how cool! Actually, no...from what I've read of the reviews, I'm assuming most of their business comes from delivery and take out. Makes sense.

+'s:
**The lady loves their chicken and broccoli...she literally goes through withdrawal if she doesn't get it when she craves it. The chicken is white meat and tender, and the broccoli isn't terribly overcooked. It's fresh, so I know it's cooked per order and not just sitting around.
**It's BYOB!!!
**The portion sizes are fairly large. The lady and I usually share a combo platter of her choice with a side of extra steamed rice. I get to eat the fatty things that come with combo...ie crab ragoon or an egg roll. They're decent. I'm always full when I leave...and no....I do not get hungry 3 hours later. (Ahem...Americans, that is a Chinese food stereotype.)
**Cheapies! $11 not including tip usually...$15 on a really expensive night. You can't beat that! Esp with BYOB!
**The daughter and her mom are extremely sweet. It's usually just them in the dining area, and they are never anything but polite.

--'s:
**The lady and I always argue about if the place inside is clean or not. Regardless...it's your opinion. Dining in is not exactly comfy.
**Not a fan of the soup. Egg drop, hot and sour, wonton...no no no. However, I'm biased. The soup in all the Chinese restaurants I've been to in this city is just awful. How sad is it the best Asian food I've ever had is in SC???

Will I come back? Yes, it's tradition and my lovely likes it.

Ordered from here because for some reason it's impossible to find General Tso's tofu anywhere in this city. So I was excited! And?

Wowee! Absolute worst tofu I've ever had!  Here's a tip: drain your tofu before you cook it. That way, it won't taste like, you know...water tofu.  I'm sure your sauces are great, but you can't taste them when they're so watered down. I had to add some sauce I had on hand (got delivery, btw).

For what it's worth, we had the General Tso's tofu and Sesame tofu.

Bleh.

I love Jade East, have been ordering from there for years!  (About 13 to be precise)  I give them 5 stars based on how well they're doing what they're trying to do.  Are they unbelievable gourmet Chinese cuisine?  No, but who expects that from a neighborhood takeout joint?  What they do do is deliver quite delicious and consistent food at a fair price.  There's always too much food and they deliver quickly and rarely screw anything up!  Shouldn't be such a hard to find thing but it is!

Love the potstickers and the general tso's! I also like the Kung Pao! Give them a shot!

Good chinese take out. It's not high class, but it's cheap and it's what you're looking for if you're in the market. They delivered to my house, which was shocking as I live in Wicker Park. I was very excited that it came within the hour, was still smoking hot and I got free crab rangoons! They were big and delicious, as was all of my food. I had leftovers, and they all warmed up well and tasted good. I will definitely order from here when I am in the mood for some cheap chinese.

This was definitely some delicious Chinese take out.  I ordered the larger portion because I was feeling extremely hungry.  However I did not really need to order the larger size because we got free crab rangoon with our order!  Which was super delicious.  I kind of wish I was eating it right now.  There were plenty of leftovers which were delicious the next day.

I have been ordering from here for over 10 years. The food is fresh, consistent and is always delivered fast. I can't find takeout in the area that can even come close to Jade East. However, not the type of place to sit down and eat, it seems to be setup as strictly take-out. Great Stuff!

It's in a good location, I will give them that.  We had the entire place to ourselves, it was empty.  However there is a funny story....we were sitting at the table by the window and this woman in a wheelchair kept running her chair into the window and waving her arms....SOOOO disturbing....I am assuming she is a homeless woman looking for food....well about 10 minutes after being harassed by this woman the owner comes out and walks outside to deal with her, we assume that he is telling her to leave...well she was there to pick up her take out order !!!  She couldn't get in the door so she was trying to get our attention to open the door!  We felt sooo bad!!
Anyway, food was pretty good, fast and fresh....China Doll and Nan's is much better......
Cheap place but it is a HOLE in the wall....FOR SURE

Ordered from here tonight for dinner after finding them on http://grubhub.com

Food wasn't bad (not the best I've ever had, but defiantly not the worst) and it was nice and hot even though it took over a hour to get here.

Crab Rangoon was pretty damn good.

I'll defiantly try them out again.

The food here is SO good, the delivery is fast, and the restaurant itself is charming. It's inexpensive, the dishes are big (which is nice if you're a college student and need to get 2 meals out of one order...), and while the English of the servers/delivery people is extremely strained, the staff is quite friendly. The lunch specials are especially good deals.

Also: try the almond cookies and the crab rangoons! The chicken teriayaki kabob appetizer things are awesome, too.

this place is totally legit for chinese delivery.  the chicken is high quality, super white.  in fact, all the meat at jade east is great quality (the meat isn't scary like at some chinese places where you start wondering about its origin).

Blah-East.

Most of what I ordered seemed to all be simmered in the same brown sauce. Overall the food seemed unnecessarily fattening and salty, and the potstickers/rangoon type things I ordered were definitely flavored with freezer-burn. Fried rice was pretty good, but I always like fried rice. Maybe I ordered on an off-night? Or maybe Saturday nights are off-nights here. Oh well, there are other options...

I looked below at the other reviews - is it true that they charge an extra dollar for credit card orders!?

I don't have much to say about this except.. oh forget it, here I go again.

We have terrible chinese delivery available to us in the Gold Coast.  We've tried almost everywhere.  I finally went on yelp and http://grubhub.com looking for yet another place to try.  I finally found a place that had oodles of great reviews...

We are out of the delivery area.  Damn.

I have my parents and sister from out of town coming over in like 1 hour.  I need to feed these people, and they want Chinese!?

I then see that Jade East got some decent revies on GrubHub so alright, let's try them.

They were fantastic.  Get the honey garlic chicken!  And the general tso's.  The mongolian beef ain't bad neither.

The smoothies suck though.  I thought these would be like bubble tea smoothies, which I guess they were, but way too heavy on the blended ice.  And I hated my egg roll.  Stay away from those things maybe and you should be rollin!

Delivery was kind of long, but they did say upfront that they'd take an hour, and they were on time.

I'll order from here again.

When the Red Sox triumphed over Cleveland in 2007's ALCS, I (a Boston fan) ordered Jade East as consolation take-out for Brandon C (an Indians fan). It was perfect, because I got to celebrate Boston's victory with some tasty wonton soup and pork fried rice, and Brandon got to crab rangoon his sorrows away. Yes, crab rangoon is a verb now.

I feel like I always get more than I paid for. I usually can't decide between fried rice and steamed rice, but lucky for me, I don't have to. Every time I've ordered fried rice, a steamed rice has always made its way into the bag as well. Usually, there's a free order of egg rolls and a few sodas, too.

The pot stickers are GIANT. I am full after about 3, which makes me a little sad because I usually eat these first. The wonton soup is also huge, so share it with a friend!

Jade East is my favorite Chinese delivery. It may not be the absolute best Chinese in the city, but it is always hot, fresh, and flavorful. The family is wonderful and they don't pretend that they don't speak English. The portions are also very good. I get the 16 oz portions. There is plenty left over for lunch the next day or to reheat and finish off later. Why is it Chinese food only fills you up for an hour?

My picks:
Moo Shu Pork - sweet with good texture. The pork is tender and there is plenty of it.
Spring rolls - perfection.
Pot stickers - pan-fried is better
Almond Ding - great for picky kids. Chicken and veggies in a mild sauce, and they can pick out what they don't like

Take a pass on:
Fried Rice.
Tomato and Peppers with choice of meat.

Service is slow, but very friendly and accomodating.
Food is delicious.  My friend had vegetable chow fun.  I had ginger-onion beef. Normally the beef would be breaded and fried, but I asked to have it not breaded and it was delicious - tender beef sauteed with onions and green onions and fresh ginger.  Don't you want to eat that right now?

Pot stickers were....pot stickers.  Not special, but quite delicious.  Tea was fragrant and wonderful.  It hit the spot and was the perfect place to grab dinner before a show at the nearby Apollo Theatre.

It is a dump, more of a joke of a place, they don't even bother to clean the tables off at the end of the night. At least I knew the money I wasted on their food was going to a good education (two girls who took my order were doing their homework on a back table) or a good car (the owner's porsche was parked in front).

Been around forever, probably because of the constant influx of new youngsters to the area every year. Its OK, nothing special.

Large menu, full array of soups, appetizers, main dishes. I do not think they place is known for anything in particular. Its just in a good area.

There are so many other better Chinese places -- not worth running here. I think I ate there because it was the afternoon, we were walking down the street and everyone was just craving Chinese. It was fine for that, but not much more.

Just like Nathan, this place was normally out of my delivery range, but thanks to http://grubhub.com I was able to try out their food. Delivery was very quick, under 40 minutes. The Mongolian beef was actually spicy, but had a strange sweet flavor too it. The kung pao chicken was watered down, and rather bland. Egg rolls were a bit chalky, but had a good flavor. I'm not sure what the deal with the pot stickers was, but the flavor was off, we ended up throwing them out. We did get a free order of crab rangoon, which was fantastic. Overall nothing special.

I miss Jade East - I used to live right around the corner, so I definitely visited this place a few times a month.  Their orange chicken and sesame chicken were both delicious and portions were big enough for 2 meals.  Their lunch special was pretty good and cheap as well, and carryout orders are ready in 15 minutes or less.  Oh Jade East, I miss you and your delicious Chinese food.

I've never actually been TO this place, but my old roommate recommended them for Chinese take-out one night and I haven't ordered from anyone else in the four years since. Delivery will take 45 minutes and a couple times I've had trouble getting through on the phone but I love their food and once in awhile they'll throw in some extra steamed rice or a soda if they take too long, which is a nice gesture. My only complaint is that their crab rangoon (which is VERY good) only comes as an order of 7, so if you're the only one eating it, it will likely be too much to make it worth it. Their portions are HUGE though, so you will definitely have leftovers. And everything is fantastic. General Tso's, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Fried Rice...everything.

this is standard, dependable cantonese chinese food, like my family used to get back in the 70's, which  i take out about two or three times a month. their prices are reasonable, they'll make substitutions and/or additions, like adding an extra veggie to a dish, without making a big deal about it. in fact, the owners are the nicest people i've ever dealt with, in any business.

i love that they offer small portions as well as regular, cause who really wants to eat leftover chinese for three days? my standard order of a (all small) combo fried rice, combo chow mein and seafood combo with wide rice noodles on the side, is always dependable. their hong kong steak is great for meat enthusiasts, and when i order a small moo shu whatever, i ask for an extra wrap to make it an even four. their crab rangoon and butterfly shrimp appetizers are always good as well.

there's nothing fancy or upscale or atmospheric about this place, but it offers such comfort food, chinese style, that it's become a sat. night tradition.

Yay Jade East! This is a favorite place among my group of friends. Besides the good food, the family who runs it is beyond sweet. What is unsweet is the fact that my underage friends and I would come here for the BYOB (we would bring a 30 case of bushe light, and Bacardi). Looking back we must have been so obnoxious, but the family would bring us bowls of ice to cool our shitty beer and huge free platters of crab Rangoon as a thanks for our service. We had a couple birthday celebrations too, and they would take our cake, hide it in the back and put candles on it, and bring it out during dessert. AND the bathroom is super clean.

I never go crazy over Chinese food so I can't give this place three stars.  In general, it's a good, cheap place to go to.  It's one of the few affordable Chinese restaurants in the area.  Just be careful when you order for delivery though.  They wrote my credit card number right on the bag (and I remember reading a review for some other restaurant doing the same).

We ordered three appetizers (rangoons, pan-fried potstickers, crab spring rolls) and the sesame tofu. I can't say that any of it was good. The tofu was soggy and lacked that slight chewyness that makes it so good (in my opinion anyway). Yick. Delivery was fast though.

I simply don't like this place because I work across the street and order the same thing a couple times per week, and every time I went to pick it up,they would change the price  a little higher. And I don't like the fact that if you use your credit card you get charged a $1.00.I feel like they scam people on prices, same problems w/ people I work w/ they had the same complaint. So I know its not just me!!!! I actually like the food, but won't go back anymore!!!
