Q:
How big is this airport compared to MIA or MCO?
A:
Compared to MIA and MCO JIA is not as big but JIA is soooo very well organized. It is one way in to all gates...with that being said be sure to arrive at least 45 minutes ahead of your flight ✈️ in the event that there is a long wait time.

What is a good, clean, reasonably priced hotel in the area?
A:
By airport? Try Doubletree or Aloft. In downtown tons of options.

I've flown out of here numerous times. Easily able to get to, it's clean, and can get from check-in to the gate in less than 45 minutes during high-traffic times. The food selections aren't that vast but I normally don't eat at the airport except to purchase a drink that of course wouldn't make it through TSA. There aren't a lot of direct flights out of JAX so expect to have connects and a pretty long travel day unless you luck up and the moon and planets align to shorten the day.

Lena was excited to fly to Atlanta for her cousin's wedding. She had packed her bags, checked in online, and arrived at the Jacksonville International Airport with plenty of time to spare. She smiled as she walked through the automatic doors, feeling a surge of adrenaline.
She headed to the security checkpoint, where she was greeted by a friendly TSA agent. He scanned her boarding pass and ID, and asked her how she was doing. Lena told him she was going to a wedding, and he wished her a good time. He directed her to the screening lane, where she placed her carry-on and personal items on the belt. She stepped into the body scanner, and waited for the green light. She was cleared to go, and collected her belongings. She thanked the TSA agent, who smiled and said, "Have a safe and enjoyable flight."
Lena made her way to the Delta Sky Club, where she had access as a Gold Medallion member. She checked in at the reception, and was welcomed by a friendly staff member. She scanned her boarding pass and entered the lounge, where she found a comfortable seat near the window. She plugged in her laptop, and connected to the free Wi-Fi. She checked her email, and replied to a few messages. She also checked the weather in Atlanta, and saw that it was sunny and warm.
She decided to get a snack, and headed to the buffet area. She was impressed by the variety of food and drinks available. She picked up a plate, and filled it with some cheese, crackers, fruit, and cookies. She also poured herself a cup of coffee, and added some cream and sugar. She returned to her seat, and enjoyed her snack. She looked out the window, and watched the planes take off and land. She felt a sense of wonder and gratitude.
She checked the time, and saw that it was almost time to board. She packed up her laptop, and threw away her trash. She left the lounge, and thanked the staff for their service. She walked to her gate, where she saw a long line of people waiting to board. She skipped the line, and went to the priority boarding lane. She scanned her boarding pass, and was greeted by a friendly gate agent. She walked down the jet bridge, and entered the plane. She was welcomed by a smiling flight attendant, who directed her to her seat. She stowed her carry-on in the overhead bin, and settled into her seat. She buckled her seat belt, and put on her headphones. She turned on her music, and closed her eyes. She was ready to fly to Atlanta, and have a wonderful time at the wedding.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Apr 4, 2024Updated review
Jacksonville airport:
I was taking an afternoon flight. Got into the airport and headed to precheck, which went smoothly. I'm assuming the gentleman I came into contact with was a manager, he was so delightful, helpful, and patient. Security was a breeze and then I headed to my gate.
While waiting for boarding, I was delighted to see three women with three different dogs! A golden retriever and two doodles! They were volunteers who go up and down the gates allowing you to pet the pups to calm your nerves about flying! What a wonderful idea! These pups really stole the show and I hope they become a permanent fixture at the airport and hope to see this incorporated into other airports!
The bathrooms were clean.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Feb 12, 2024Previous reviewGiving this review a 4 out of 5 for my first leg of the trip on the way to my destination. If you're used to smaller airports, then you'll like the JAX airport.
It's not the tiniest, but it's a decent size and easy to navigate. They also have done some enhancements to the airport by adding and upgrading some of their dining options, which has been great to see.
Security was relatively quick. I have precheck, so I was hoping it would have been a quicker process...but alas it took longer than I would have liked.
I was flying Delta, so I wound up going directly to my gate. It seemed like the boarding process went really slow and got super backed up. I'm not sure if this was because it was a full flight or everyone just seemed to be standing.
The one thing I noticed was you couldn't hear what the staff was saying when they were speaking into the loudspeaker about boarding and groups. It started to get confusing.
I'm hoping the next time I fly I'm able to hear the loudspeaker better and people wait in their seat until their groups are called.Oct 2, 2023Previous reviewGiving my most recent experience a firm 4 stars. When I arrived the airport was crowded. Seemed like a lot of people coming and going. Luckily I didn't need to check any bags.
I went directly to TSA Precheck, showed my boarding pass and got into line. The line moved pretty fast. From start to finish, it took about 10 minutes to have my items checked and pass through security.
Once I finished, I headed to my gate. The airport was super crowded, so not a ton of seats available, but the airport was clean.
I decided to head to the bathroom prior to my flight. There was no line which was nice, and the bathroom was clean, and there were plenty of stalls available.
This is a nice airport, easy to navigate, and clean.Sep 25, 2023Previous reviewIt's been a minute since I've been to the JAX Airport. I decided to park in their daily garage parking. I'm docking a star from this experience, but clearly the number of spots per level wasn't up-to-date. After trying floors 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for about 25+ minutes, I finally cut my losses and checked out the top floor to park, where there were numerous spots.
When I arrived, since I was traveling with a carry on, I didn't have to fiddle with tickets or checking baggage, so I headed straight to precheck. Precheck was great, no lines, showed my ID, put my items on the belt (which FYI, if you haven't been here in about a year, they've updated their precheck section, which was great). The staff was friendly and kind. I zipped through this section in less than 3 minutes.
Then I headed to my gate. Because I was flying Delta, I'm in gate A. They've added some restaurants like a Southern Grounds in both the gate and prior to going through security and a BurgerFi.
All in all, I'm pleased with the updates they've done with this airport.
If you're looking for a smaller airport that's updated, clean, and easy to navigate, the Jacksonville Airport is for you.Jul 18, 2019Previous reviewI know some people really enjoy all the amenities a larger airport has to offer, but when it comes to flying, 9 times out of 10 I'll take a smaller airport. I know you're probably thinking "But why Carla?" Well here are some reasons:
1. Ease of getting in and out of the airport
2. Sometimes less is more
3. Harder to get lost/find your gate
These aren't really compelling reasons, but I enjoy the Jacksonville airport. It's smaller, but easy to navigate.
While there aren't a ton of dining options, there are some, so you can still get a coffee or grab a bite to eat prior to a flight.
The airport has a contemporary feel. It's clean and sleek.
If you have TSA Pre-Check, the line tends to be efficient. Heck, even if you don't have Pre-Check, the other security line tends to move pretty quickly.
I also like the fact, that prior to going through security, they have rocking chairs and most days, they have someone playing music, whether it be piano or saxophone.
Pros:
-Smaller airport, but easy to navigate
-Rocking chairs prior to security
-Some dining options
-Clean and updated
Cons:
-The weight of my carryon luggage (it felt like I was carrying rocks).
Tips: If you have time prior to your flight, take a load off and kickback in one of their rocking chairs prior to security. - Feb 21, 20242 check-ins
Super pretty airport but TSA brings this review to 3 stars. I have precheck and it took a good 20 minutes to get through TSA today... Not because of the agents but because of the MACHINES.
They're all automated (kind of; there was still a person checking them) and they took FOREVER to shuffle the luggage around. I went through the metal detector and then waited... And waited... And waited.
Other than that: seemed to have a good amount of fast food options, and a few sit-down restaurants. Also felt nice and airy, with the sunlight streaming in.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 13, 2024
Smaller so way easier to get around. Love flying on here!!
If you have a pet, there is a pet facility directly outside of security.. like directly across the hall. It is also directly across from the exit (where you can't renter without security) if you just landed. They have a litter box and fake grass area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 12, 2023
Clean, easy to enter, lots of parking (19/day?) and easy access to taxi and ride shares. The food in the airport is mungo expensive like all other US airports I've been to. But overall a nice experience.
An Uber/taxi to the downtown shopping area is $28/$45.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 27, 20241 check-in
This is not the greatest airport but I, personally can tell that this airport is actually doing there best in order to be a better airport. Jacksonville international airport is not as big as the other airport but they are actually on the plan on making it bigger. They are under construction but they are doing their best to have everything flowing. I love the fact that there is a bunch of rocking chair in the waiting area, I think it is a great southern touch. Also, they opened a few local restaurants in the airport which I think was pretty cool and a wonderful idea to come up with. they also have Starbucks, Auntie Anne's pretzel, Sbarro , Burger fi and many more. They also did a great job on making the high ceilings , it just makes it more brighter. This airport is also very clean. Whenever we are here it is always nice. even though this is a much smaller airport, Jacksonville actually did a great job of making their airport convenient and clean.

Still, one of my favorite airports to fly to and from. Very relaxed vibes here, clear signs, and well maintained.
Cool restaurants, places to eat, and places to just seat down and take a breather.Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0Apr 26, 2022Previous reviewJacksonville is a nice little airport! Very easy to navigate and gates, restaurants, and all is well organized.
One thing to keep in mind is this: Even though the airport doors are open in the departure terminals, the security checkpoint doesn't open until 4:00 am. So you'll have to wait if your are here early. I didn't know that.
Also, I was flying with American Airlines and they too, do not open until 4:00 am. 3:45 am is the earliest they open. This is only if you need to check in bags. The self-serving machines will only print boarding passes. At 4 am or so, they get rebooted and now you can print bag passes.
Same goes with the restaurants. Right now it is 4:20 am and they are closed, I am assuming they open at either 5 or 6 am.
But the airport is comfortable, and going through the security was not too bad! - Mar 18, 20247 check-ins
I have flown in and out of the Jacksonville airport a bunch of times over the last year since moving to JAX. My first issue with this airport is that you are forced to park in economy and take the airport bus to the terminal. There should be an option to just walk from the lot, even if it is far. Taking the bus is very inconvenient and many of the drivers FLY around the bends. I oftentimes am car sick just from the swerving in the parking lots before arriving to the actual airport. But for $8 a day, it is a steal. The security line is always pretty short, but the TSA pre-check line does take longer than regular security. My boyfriend has TSA pre and I am always through the regular line quicker than him. Once through security, there are only a few dining options since the airport is so small. We've eaten at BurgerFi, Shula (burgers), Southern Grounds (a great local option for coffee and breakfast), and Firehouse Subs. I always am excited if I have time for a glass of wine at Vino Volo, but the little kiosk looks pretty sad compared to the nice bars in other airports. The bathrooms are always kept clean. Overall this airport has many pros and cons since it is so small. Hopefully more nonstop flights will become available as more people continue moving to Jacksonville.

Great airport! Small, easy to navigate, has restaurants, and enough things to do. They keep it clean here and things overall are up-to-date! Not a bad airport!
And yes, security can fluctuate at airports - don't be a moron and let that dictate your rating *eyeroll*Helpful 21Thanks 1Love this 22Oh no 0
