The reviews for Glenn are true!!! I have wavy hair that I'm trying to grow out from some very tragic and lopsided layering. My hair looked so bad when I walked in I was actually embarrassed. Seriously, think of a busted mullet that would have made Pat Benatar hang her head in shame.
I decided to wait a week and really test drive this 'do before I review. Honestly, Glenn was so good at explaining what would look good and how to style it, even when I do it myself it looks as good as when I left the salon. Thanks Glenn and see you in eight weeks! -

Kimberly G --- is the BEST!
http://www.kimberlyg.com/
Kimberly is the ONLY one that I would trust to cut my hair, whether it be for a style change or for color. She's been cutting my hair for over 5 years. She's amazing in pointing out which style will fit me. She appreciates when I bring hairstyle pictures to give her an idea on the type of cut I want. Only an expert, like Kimberly, can perform and achieve the cut that's exactly in the photo. Beyond the haircut and the salon experience, what equally counts is Kimberly's warm, cheerful, and sincere personality....which makes every appointment or time with her something to look forward to... -

Glenn Gustafik is Rad!
I have been looking for someone to cut my curly man hair ever since my stylist moved away to the Castro. If you work in the Ad Ghetto and need a great haircut, Glenn's your guy. -

If you are looking for an stylist who will give your boyfriend, husband or significant other a clean, elegant hair-cut you must book Miss Morgan Brown.
Morgan has been my husband's stylist for 3 years now and she's the epitome of professionalism. She's thorough, straight-forward with a dry wit that will have you smiling throughout your session.
I highly recommend her and hope if you're reading this you will book her soon. -

I had a first time appointment with Glenn today. Imagine the anxiety of finding a new hair stylist. His yelp reviews were great, yet he is modest. When I first sat down I felt I could let him take over. I didn't have to feel like I had to direct him. He really knows hair, being in the business for years. He also knows style. Glenn taught some haircare tips and made some product recommendations, which I asked for, and he didn't even carry the line. I found my new stylist!

I came across Jackson Place Salon via Yelp. I wanted to find a Salon in my neighborhood. Txs Yelpers!!!
I called and got a appointment for the following day w/ Glenn Gustafik.
Glenn is extremely knowledgeable and Professional when it comes to hair and "small talk" while clients in his chair/care.
Glenn informed me that, He recently moved back home to SF from the North West. and had been working w/ Jackson Salon for the past couple of months.
Not only will you get a fantastic haircut, but 20% off if your a new client of his, and 20% there after when you refer others.
Thank you Glenn,
I will be returning!! -

Glenn Gustafik is amazing! He did magic to my hair and I am so happy he was my stylist! This is my first time but he will definitely be my regular stylist from now on.
I stumbled upon Jackson Place Salon via the cafe shop I always go to next door. Glenn had a few of his discount brochures there. FYI - Glenn is a recent transplant from Seattle with over 30 years of experience. He recently joined Jackson Place and is building up his new clientele. That's why you can get his services for 20% off right now.
I booked an appt that day and was in the shop at 5pm. Glenn was very nice and asked me about my hair, how I normally wash and dry, and what I was looking for. He looked at my face shape and recommended a hair cut based on my needs and right away I felt very confident about the style he was going to cut.
We had a great conversation about food :) we are both foodies and 45 minutes later, I got a super stylish haircut that was simple yet sophisticated. My coworkers all had huge compliments.
Thanks Glenn! I am glad Jackson Place is able to have you. You will be seeing me a lot! -

Five stars for Kimberly. She is FANTASTIC! My hair is a cross between wavy and curly with many cowlicks and I have very short hair. I like symmetrical, even cuts - no allowances for cowlicks, please - just a great haircut. Her cuts are the absolute best! I searched for a new stylist on Yelp because my last person did a horrible job with short hair. I found Kimberly and she totally fixed a bad cut. Her cuts are great to start with and get better with time. Every time I go to the salon they ask why I'm there because my hair STILL LOOKS GREAT!!!
I moved and was too lazy to go to the City for a haircut and tried a stylist in the suburbs. Big mistake - the worst haircut I ever got. I went back to Kimberly who fixed yet another bad cut done by someone else. I will never use anyone else again. I've learned my lesson.
She encourages you to bring pictures, hears what you say and just generally is a true professional who knows what she's doing. I feel TOTALLY safe sitting in her chair.
Not to mention - she's really nice, down to earth and doesn't try to sell you a million dollars worth of products unless that's what you want.
Lastly, I've been seeing Kimberly for about a year and it's taken me a while to sit down and write a review but all for the best because her cuts and service can stand the test of time. -

Avoid! I went there today for a bang trim, what could go wrong? I had an appt with Leetta, who seemed pretty good from Yelp reviews. When I arrived, she had not finished her cut. She told me she was going to be a while longer and could her colleague do the bang trim. Since the woman was standing right there, it was not so much a question. I didn't want to be rude, and I figured not too much could go wrong.
I told her the story of my bangs. I tried cutting them myself a month ago and f'd up. I went to the sweetest lady in Berkeley who fixed them up for me so they were passable. They have grown out quite a bit now so I was finally ready to get them back in shape a bit more.
I told her I was going for the side-swept look. She cuts away then lays them out and asks me if they're good, and the center is cut way short with side relatively untouched. I start to panic and attempt to explain what side-swept is. She seemingly does not know. I attempt to find it in a magazine, and she gets another woman who appears to have some authority and pink hair. She knows exactly what I'm talking about but tells me my bangs are too short in the center for that look. No sh**t! I tell her they weren't that short before, which leads her to believe that I cut that off. I explain that this woman just cut that off. To which, she says she did not take that much off. They are bangs!!! A little is a lot!
She basically made them passable. There was no apology. She told me they would be long enough in a few weeks to correct! Are you serious? My old roommate cut my bangs better before from a Youtube video.
I have never felt so passionately that one should avoid an establishment. So if you don't my find my story compelling enough not to go, just think that 54 reviews in downtown SF is not enough... -

Lori has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now. I originally chose Jackson Place because it gets decent reviews and it's close to my office. I was lucky to find Lori! She is super laid back and always does a great job! She is always willing to give her input but is also very open to suggestions. The price is also very reasonable. I definitely recommend Jackson Place to anyone looking for a great, professional haircut at a low key salon. No pretentious attitudes to be found here!

Morgan has been cutting my hair for the past about year and a half and is consistenly great. She does an awesome job of taming my hard-to-manage scandinavian hair and I always look forward to my monthly half-hour in the salon.
I especially appreciate Morgan's ability to reach a look that works for the office while also being just a little fun.
The salon is very nicely located in the Jackson Place courtyard. I usually get a post-haircut cup of blue bottle from the cafe right outside and the hair cut-coffee combo never fails to to make for a great day. -

I hate to leave this review...I really do... but, I also hate leaving with not so great hair.
I met my friend here one day as she was getting her hair cut by Jenny Moya. I loved the way her hair turned out and I saw the stylist use thinning shears which I can't get anyone in the state of California to use on my hair.
I made an appointment for color. I had never gotten all over color before, but I was ready to have my hair go to a medium/dark brown instead of my current wannabe blond.
I think Jenny has great style, amazing tattoos, and she is really nice. The hair though, eh. When I left, my hair was black. It was really dark at the bottom and slightly lighter at the top. I knew it would wash out a bit (semi-permanent), so I wasn't too worried. It did wash out after several washings enough to be the color I wanted, but it never had that "rich" look to it that I like where it is shiny and healthy looking. It looked like home color. Also, once I got home, I was so glad that when I left the salon it was dark outside because I had color all over the place! My ears were covered (inside, outside, and around), color on my cheeks, my forehead, and who knows what my neck looked like! I sat for 10 minutes rubbing nail polish remover on my ears/face to get it off. It still wasn't off. After I showered, and did more nail polish remover, it was finally off for the most part.
While I had my color done, I also had her do a bang trim. I have side swept bangs and she cut them wonderfully. Since I had never had all over color done, I thought, well, maybe everyone leaves with color on them. After seeing how good the bang trim was, I decided she must be better at cutting than color.
I made an appointment for a cut, and was excited for her to use thinning shears on my hair. I have really thick hair with layers. I hate visible layers, but was convinced on layers from my FL stylist who uses thinning shears to blend the layers to where you can't even see them as well as thinning my hair. I told her exactly that as well as saying that I want to keep it as long as possible so to only cut off the dead ends (2 inches max). I left with my hair about 4 inches shorter. I think she was trying to make it feel light because she never used the thinning shears! She did attempt to thin it out, but I left with very visible layers! They were cut in the way that makes it look like I have a million split ends! If you just cut off 4 inches and put in new layers, I should not look like I have split ends!
I went to another salon recently for hair color and realized how color should be done. It was a totally different experience.
I really like Jenny as a person and she did cut my friend's hair well, but she is not good at layers, thick hair, or color...except that she has purple highlights that are only seen in the light and look AMAZING!
I feel like this salon could use a Tabatha makeover. The salon itself is run down. The floor is coming up, the hair dryers are old, nothing is comfortable, and the stylists all use whatever products they buy which look like Sally Beauty products. I didn't see anyone using anything they sell (if they don't use it, why would I buy it). The shampoo used on my hair smelled like grape dimetapp. My girl is also cash only so that is always a pain! When I first went in to meet my friend and was considering going dark, one of the other employees (who was eavesdropping) was telling me that my hair would fall out if I did the japaneese straightening because I had bleached my hair. I told her that the salon I went to did not use bleach for my highlights and that that same salon (much more "magazine popular" than this one) said that I could get the Japaneese straightening. She told me that they lied to me and my hair would fall out. Please tell me why this expensive, downtown, popular salon would risk my hair falling out completely just to make a measly buck?
Sorry Jenny, I thought you would be my girl, but I was not impressed. -

The salon is very nice but it is all about the hair cut.
one name: Morgan! She only cuts hair for men so makes her an expert.
She is truly an artist with the scissor.
Been with her for five years now and have not had one bad cut. Couple of times i e-mailed her pictures of a particular style of hair and she cut it exactly as the picture.
Morgan- would not disappoint at all. If you are new in town or just looking for a new stylist, go to her! -

This is a review for Morgan, who cuts Men's hair. See her website at http://amanshair.com to make appointments.
I went in to this place for a haircut from Morgan, who only does men's hair, after years of budget haircuts. I fgured, how different could it be? Well, the answer is very! First off, Morgan is a bad ass chick and will give you a haircut to match. When you arrive, she'll do a recon of your head, tell you all about your cowlicks and other pecularities, you'll nod pretending like you understand, she'll wash you hair, and then she'll get to work. Morgan doesn't use a razor on the sides, explaining that with sheers she can actually shape your hair how you want it rather than the shape of your head determining how your it'll come out. After some short pleasant conversation, Morgan has done her work and you're on your way, usually in 30-45 minutes. The first time my hair came out great, very natural without straight lines above your ears and lines in your hair between the layers. After a few weeks, my hair usually starts to balloon out but Morgan had cut the layers underneath and after 6 weeks my hair still looked great! She even advised how to style it the way she did at the salon.
Morgan is a really cool girl and she is an amazing stylist and knows her way around a man's noggin. I highly recommend going to her, and even letting her decide what would look good on you. Overall, a great haircut from a great hairstyist that knows her stuff! -

Decided this morning I needed a haircut immediately (I'm not great at planning ahead), and lucky me, I tripped across Jackson Place here on Yelp and snagged an appointment. I live in Oakland so have a place I've been going there, but nothing I'm in love with, and decided that I need to find a regular spot in SF near work. And...I can't recall the last time I had this great of an experience at a salon! It was hands down awesome, from the moment I stepped in the door to the moment I left. There was none of that holier (or hipper)-than-thou attitude I've gotten at other high-end salons, or the frenetic energy you sometimes find with people running all over the place--just a friendly, calm vibe.
LeEtta was my hair guru, and if there's one thing I can say about her it's that she knows how to make a client happy. I arrived with flat, dull, 15-year-old-looking hair (long, bangs) and left with stylish, swingy, shiny grown-up layers (still long, much cuter bangs). LeEtta really took her time getting my hair just right, and was great to talk to. (None of that awkwardness that sometimes comes with putting yourself in the hands of a stranger for an hour.) The yummy coffee and delectable slice of chocolate cake (it was the owner's birthday so can't say this is the norm) were a nice bonus!
I'm so glad I've found this place and look forward to going back!

My hairdresser in Mission left me for East Bay, but what timing when I met Jenny Moya at brunch just a few weeks later.
I give little direction, I like to give the stylist opportunity to do what they do best. Jenny did not disappoint. We did full color, a super hot burgundy with peek-a-boo highlights, a quick trim since I keep my hair long. I was so happy, my man loved it, a professional stylist and teacher complimented it without any provoking from me. I'm calling her right now to make my next appointment before the new year. -
Review from Marilyn A.
Oakland, CA
Let me start by saying that this was one of the best (if not THE best) haircut I've ever had. If that's not enough to convince you...
I work nearby and was able to get an appointment with LeEtta for after work.
She was very knowledgeable, friendly and warm. What I appreciated most is that even though it was the end of the day, she did not rush me at all. She truly took the time to make sure she cut and styled my hair correctly. If I had any questions, LeEtta was happy to answer and made sure that I was comfortable with the changes she made.
I think it always helps to bring in photos of what you are interested in (it was certainly helpful in my case).
Overall it was a great experience at a reasonable cost (just remember to have cash or check). -

Kimberly G deserves a VERY SOLID five stars.
First, let me tell you that I have curly hair and have never had any luck finding a good curly hair expert. I've Yelped it and Googled it to no avail. So hopefully if I say curly hair enough, some other nappy head in need of an expert stylist will find my review.
Curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair.
When I told Kimberly my problem of finding a stylist who could cut my hair how I liked it, rather than jumping to and assuring me she'd give me a cut I'd love, she paused and ASKED: "What EXACTLY are you looking for?" I explained precisely and she delivered. That's my perfect stylist.
Now when people compliment me on my locks, I don't hesitate to send them Kimberly's way. I even keep her cards in my wallet to hand out for times like these. It's an easy recommendation because so far, every one who has made an appointment from my recommendation is hooked for life.
Kimberly: I can't recommend you highly enough!!!

I recently had my hair done by Glenn at Jackson Place Salon. Prior to that, I had been seeing the same stylist for many years now, but it was too difficult for me to travel to the East Bay from San Francisco every time I needed my do done. With that being said, I decided to go see Glenn. I was very nervous as it took me 10 years to fine the stylist I had been going to be before and I'm a very loyal person. I read many reviews about his business in Seattle and after sitting in his chair for 2 minutes, I had a great feeling. Glenn was knowledgeable and relaxed. He knows hair very well and gave me a ton of information about my hair and what I could do to make it even better than it already was. I felt informed, comfortable and most importantly, like I was in good hands while Glenn had full control of my hair. At the end of my cut, I was more than happy with the results and happy that I no longer have to travel all the way to the East Bay to be happy with my hair! Thank you Glenn! See you soon!

Review from Jane K.
So I am about to turn 30 in April and up until 2.5 years ago I was hairstylist-hopping my way about life. I've seen it all, the one-night stands (appointments where I walk out in tears over the end result), the noncommittal (stylist with inconsistent work where I finally just have to dump them because I deserve to be treated well all the time, okay??), the disappearing act (I had this one stylist I had settled for who left the salon without letting his clients know - come on now). It was getting to the point where I would get sick in my stomach the day of any hair appointment and I would pray that it would all be okay in the end.
Then my path crossed with Kimberly's!! The first time I met her she took the time to ask me about my hair's history and the look I wanted and was going for. We laid out a roadmap to get my hair back in a healthy state but still making it look good in the meantime. What I found out quickly is that she is this color goddess. She has been able to create consistently what I want, a dark brown color with dimension but without using highlighting. I love my hair now. Not just the color but it's noticeably more healthy than it was prior to Kimberly. I also just did the Brazilian Keratin straightening with her last week which made me realize a review is way overdue. The Keratin straightening is a great option for me because I don't want to take the extra time to straighten my hair in the morning but it's not flat, it's full of volume but really manageable.
Her website is also pretty cool and transparent, all prices are listed and you can schedule your appointment right there online. So much better than going back and forth with the receptionist on the phone about what works for both our busy schedules....
Seriously, I adore this woman. -

I went to this salon based on the Yelp reviews, but the cut I got from Leetta was downright wacky. I have very thick, textured, curly hair which she reassured me she was comfortable working with. I told her I was growing it out so I all I needed was a trim, tidying up my layers and taking out some of the volume. But now, I feel like my beloved hair's been replaced by a puffy, lumpy alien mop.
She didn't take off too much length (thankfully) but my hair, which is naturally about three times as thick as most people's, is now wispy - a big messy frizz ball. She didn't give me proper layering but instead picked up individual curls and randomly cut them because she thought it would "look cute." But if she knew curly hair as well as she claimed, she would have known curls never form exactly the same way twice! I just hope this grows out fast so I don't look like I have a mullet anymore. -

Kimberly Givsan is great!
You know how some people you encounter in a professional setting just give off a really good vibe, and you can tell that they are doing what they are doing because not only are they highly skilled, but because they truly dig making people happy? That's what I'm talking about :)
By the time she was done amputating the dead ends off my hair and magic-ing the rest into awesomeness, little cartoon hearts and rainbows and chirping birdies were orbiting around her person like a full-body halo and Betty Boop & Josephine Baker were dueting a jazz ditty in the background and a unicorn was bounding across a Peter Maxesque landscape and... finally the weighty ruby velvet curtains part to reveal a TOTALLY glammed up version of me... MEOW!
Mr H arrived just before she got finished, and she offered him a beer. How nice! And he loved the do, to boot. Which is not often the case, since he's not a fan of the ubiquitous straightening blow-outs that most places send me away with.
And I can tell it's going to grow out beautifully, which is exactly what I was hoping for. YAY!
UPDATE: Kimberly also does this awesome toner-treatment thing that chills out obnoxiously brassy blondness - thank god. It's great. I was at the point of considering going really dark to cover up the orangey color my last salon gave me (a great color, but only on somebody else) but she cooled it right down... without frying my poor over-processed hair!

I can't believe this place hasn't been yelped to death yet because the location is fabulous. I too have followed Kimberly G. over to Jackson Place and was kind of skeptical about treking over from the usual Union Square location but once I actually looked around the joint, it was confirmed that this is a much better fit.
I popped in for a 5 o'clock bang trim (which is $0 if you actually make the appointmentwith her ahead of time instead of the usual $10) and she made my hair look presentable again in less than 5 minutes. Walking around with Flock of Seagulls bangs just wasn't cutting it and lucky for me and my never ending locks, Kimberly has online appointment bookings!
The pros of this new location:
1. Much easier parking
2. Quieter neighborhood (if you can call the FiDi a neighborhood)
3. Very chill building
4. No tourists that run into you as they blindly take photos of the buildings around Union Square
5. The Embarcadero Theatre is just blocks away!
If you love this new place and Kimberly then yelp it. Yelp it, yelp it, yelp it. -

I know a guy who knows a guy that has been going here for years. the stylist he sees is Bobby. Actually I understand he followed Bobby from the salon Bobby was at before. Yeah, that long ago. This guy actually commutes 30+ miles to work in S.F. Does he pick someone near home? No. He just keeps going to Jackson Place Salon. Bobby.
All the folks there are real nice, too. It is a nice little salon, modern but not really "ridiculous-modern." At least that is what I am told. Also, opportunities to peruse & obtain art. Nice pieces, too.
Look. Go there. Talk to someone. Take a look around. You'll see. Then go have a bite at Sai's. You just have to go out the "back" gate onto Sansome, turn left & you're there. See the review.
What? Skills? Do they have skills with the hair? Yes. -

UMM. My hair looks freaking AWESOME!!! And it's all thanks to Kimberly Givsan...
I am very particular about my hair and have gone to many high end salons. I found her through Yelp back when she was at Acme Head & Body and will follow her wherever she goes. The new location isn't as close to my work but it's still right downtown.
She does an amazing job cutting sexy layers into my long straight Asian hair. She even took the time to teach me how to style it a few different ways with the flat iron--which made a huge difference! You can tell she is really passionate about what she does for a living. I referred my blonde friend to her and she's great with color also!
Even more awesome is that she has super late appointments and an online appointment website! http://www.kimberlyg.com -

Morgan cuts me, my bf, and my boss... sometimes all in the same day, if I've got my juggling hat on. Best haircuts ever, especially if you refrain from dropping the "f" word while she's working.
She's an excellent stylist, gives a great scalp massage, and makes two of the most important guys in my world look like a million bucks. The salon itself just had a major face-lift, and it looks awesome... you know, that whole industrial-salon thing. Very cool.

Wow, I'm the only non-5 star reviewer of this place. I went on a referral. Don't recall who I saw (will try to follow-up.)
I have the very bad habit of putting off a haircut until I'm dancing-screaming-itching-squealing-fevered-feelin g, and scrambled here with my uncontrollable mop. I wanted something new, asked for something "edge-y." Walked out with the most pedestrian haircut I've had in a long time. And it put me back like $90.
I haven't been back. And neither has the friend who referred me. -

Keratin Treatment + Jenny = Incredible Experience.
First the Keratin Treatment is life changing, I think everyone should have it done, it is addicting. Your hair is so much more manageable, soft, smooth. I have some kinky, frizzy curl and now I can leave the house without doing much more than running a brush and a blow dryer over my hair.
Second, Jenny is amazing. The process takes a while, so it is nice to have someone like Jenny, who is fun, personable, easy to talk to. She is patient, obviously well trained and takes the time to explain the product and process with you. I will most definitely be going back for routine Keratin Treatments with Jenny. -

Morgan yields a wicked pair of scissors and some awesome body art. More importantly, she gives a great, affordably-priced haircut that makes a man almost feel good about his thinning hair. (In Morgan's world, a man is never balding, just "thinning gracefully.")
While she refuses to trim nose gardens, she does throw in a nice scalp massage and hot towel treatment with each styling. She also keeps an eye out for signs of sun damage on parts of my head that, mercifully, I never see.
If you're looking for a "salon-quality" haircut without the salon-quality prices or pressure to buy hair products, Morgan is the stylist for you.

I followed Kimberly here from Acme: Here is my review below...nothing has changed!
I was referred to Kimberly about 2 years ago when I needed a serious fix from being blond to the point of burnt shab. She warned me that it would be a process, but the reality was that I was fixed up and fabulous in 2 visits. Yes!
I took this for granted and strayed to a stylist in my social network. This turned out to be a big mistake and I found myself coming back on hands and knees crying for a fix-up.
Needless to say, I learned my lesson and will never cheat/stray/venture off again. Kimberly rocks and has become not only my stylist but a haven that I look forward to visiting with while she jazzes me up:)
All in all she is a skilled master of color who stays true to her artistic nature. -

Just a quick update, this time its for Morgan, the men's hair guru.
She worked a miracle on my fiance's messed up tresses!
He had been going to Supercuts, thinking that the cut he came back with was "fine." Well, it wasn't. I knew that there was a stylist out there somewhere who could give him a flattering cut that worked with his face shape and hair type...and didn't make him look 17!
Right away, Morgan was able to quickly assess the damage, and come up with a solution to the mangled style on his noggin. 45 min later, and I was in awe! Morgan gave him a cut and style that looked so good. And, she patiently taught him how to use the hair paste, to recreate the look on his own. Now *that's* the man I'm going to marry! Woohoo!
Thanks Morgan, see ya soon!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Morgan Brown is the most consistently excellent stylist I've been to - especially if you have wavy hair which is not so easy to cut.
She is always on time and the cost is pretty reasonable too.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Morgan Brown at the Jackson Place Salon provides the best haircuts for men in SF. I've been going to her since 2005. She is easy to work with and always professional and entertaining. Better yet, her haircuts hold their look for weeks longer than any place else you might get a cut, so you get a great combination of value and price. If you work in the financial district, you needn't look any further for a haircut. The best way to schedule her is to contact her directly at 415-867-3710. You'll be happy you called her.
