I'm sure that my experience with Jackson Hewitt is not typical, because if it were I'm guessing they'd long since be out of business.
My expectations are nothing but reasonable. Get me in, get me out, and enjoy having another satisfied customer's change jingling in your pocket. This should be an easy task since there's nothing overly complicated about my financial situation.
Things got off to a rough start with their claim that I elected to have my Refund Anticipation Loan paid via a refillable Visa card, which automatically comes with a $50 fee. The branch manager dodged my calls about it, and then told me that I did in fact agree to this nonsense. FYI -- I have a perfectly good checking account, complete with card. Cashing a check really isn't a worry for me. After escalating it to the corporate level, I was met with the same bureaucracy, and ultimately had to eat all the fees (more were incurred as I had to withdraw it all from the ATM).
Then today I hear from the State of Oregon regarding an error that was made in the actual filing process by Jackson Hewitt. Now it has to be manually reviewed (read: I'm getting audited), which means I won't see a penny of my state return for at least another six weeks.
It's a no-brainer that not everyone will have the same wretched time with them that I did. Maybe I just need to get a real accountant. Regardless, the "professionals" at Jackson Hewitt won't ever see me walking through their door again.
