Adequate place to go when hungry, tired, and not in the mood to be critical.

I got a cheeseburger. It tasted like a cheeseburger (no frills), there were clean containers of mustard and ketchup on my table, and the burger was easy to eat. It made me happy. I wish it came with fries though, fries were separate at an additional $3.25! Like...not cool.

Their tables were sticky and as my friend said, "smelled of spilt beer." That was cool though, it's a bar after all. But other than that this place was normal, uninteresting, and forgettable. It satisfied my empty stomach and urge for something hearty, but I'm sure In-n-Out would've been just as adequate.

I've never been to a bar with as many beers on tap, but I've never paid so much for a beer before either. They have 68 beers on tap, though I'm sure a good number of them are out. Of the 68 choices, I had a Dogfish which turned out to be $8.50!

Nevermind the drinks, let's talk about the food, which our waitress messed up three different times on:

strike one: We ordered fries with one of our sirloin steaks, but we were given a baked potato.

strike two: We ordered a bread bowl of clam chowder, but got a bowl instead. I do have to say that the clam chowder was very chunky with clams, though the soup part was watery.

strike three: One guy had asked for a Sierra Nevada Seasonal, but got an Anchor Steam instead.

(CASH ONLY)

Eh. I came here after a day of spontaneously visiting random places in SF. We initially were going to eat at the Blue Mermaid next door, but changed our minds because of bad service. Instead we came here. And got .... incompetent service?

It was actually quite bizarre now when I think about it. We stepped inside, and it looked like nobody else was eating except us. Everyone else was drinking beer. They probably knew better. Our order was botched up inexplicably. We would order some items, and instead of getting exactly what we ordered, we got it back with something wrong, whether it be the wrong side, wrong dish, or wrong drinks, etc. And when we saw the bill at the end, it turned out our waitress took the order RIGHT. At what point in the "chain" exactly did our orders go so wrong? Weeeiiird.

At least they got a bunch of TVs around the place and the atmosphere was relaxed. They also got a BUTTLOAD of beers on tap here, an entire frigging walls worth. Pretty impressive when you look at it. Prices are ok to kinda pricy and based on our experience, a gamble to get the drink you want. At the end, we left somewhat unsatisfied and had to find a place to really SATISFY our hunger. Which meant good old In-N-Out right down the street. Perfect way to end our bizarre meal.

Verdict: Probably would never come back here for food. Ever. For drinks, maybe. If I feel like giving them a second chance.

CASH ONLY, so ... bring lots of cash?

I still love this place. I don't know why I just do.

I ordered my usual Boddington's and we took them outside through the back door to drink and smoke our stogies.

It was very quiet the day we went. I would like to take note that the bathrooms have been freshly painted and the lovely smell of bleach was in the air. That usually isn't the case.

This is just a great bar to chill. I don't expect anything more or less from here except to have a nice beer.  They have a great juke box also.

So chill, put a few bucks in the juke box and shut up.

Jack's is a good place for weary tourists (me) to stop in for a pint or two after walking up and down the Embarcadero all day.

They have ample seating; We went in the mid afternoon and easily found a seat at the bar. The service was quick and the bartender was pretty knowledgeable about all of the beers on tap. Jack's is also a nice place to experience a variety of the local Bay Area beers. I tried the Old Foghorn, which was strong and tasty.

Take the cable car or street car (both of which are 1-2 blocks away) to or from to check this place out!

This bar has your standard taxidermy deer head but also the added bonus of a ram and a water buffalo and an enormous fireplace.

I really don't hate it here...it's fun to stop in for a drink if you're in the area. Sunday nights are especially good because there are not too many people around and the jukebox is awesome.

I went for an Irish coffee last night and then a Bailey's and coffee...super delicious on a cold Sunday night, like a warm blanket. The bartenders were attentive and it had the relaxing feel of a neighborhood bar.

I liked this place and so did boyfriend and boyfriends visiting companion from South Carolina. Huge selection of beers. Amazing and extremely old woodwork in the back. Random and awesome crowd of tourists and San Franciscan's alike. Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely go back.

While trekking through the herds of Tourists myself and two tourists from NJ were walking from Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardelli's Square and my friend spots a sign touting 68 beers on tap. Since we were on a quest to find local beers we felt obligated to stop.

This place is pretty big and open. They have booth seats in the middle of t the main room to separate the front from the back of the building. The bar was in the room on the right.

There was at least one pool table in the back and also some PGA golf game.

The waitress we had was very attentive and always checked our  levels of beers as she walked past.

Unfortunately, we didn't bother to check the price on beers which were something like 6.50 a pint. I know it's right in tourist central but really that's unnecessary. One pint a friend ordered was 8.00 bucks and we only found that out after we asked for the bill. Kinda lame.

I'd go back again simply for the selection of beer but then again I'd have to pass up plenty of other places with beer on tap cheaper.

There were some very interesting people in this place. And since we've seen them all (at least I'd like to think we have), we stayed to enjoy a beer. Be aware though, they only take cash here, which was probably the only place in San Fran where we experienced this.

Anyway, they have a HUGE selection of beer but don't be fooled, this place is just an ordinary bar.

After a long day in Japan Town's Cherry Blossom festival and at the BYOBW 2009, my friends and I decide to stop at Jacks for some beer and food.

Nestled right between the Ghiradelli Square and Hooters, this place has an excellent selection of beer on tap. I believe it's close to 80+ different types if beer on hand which was served by some friendly bartenders. I think the lady bartender was completely sloshed.

The food service however seemed to be a tad on the slow side as it took us a good amount of time to actually get any sort of service for almost empty restaurant. I ordered the fish & chip and clam chowder. The fish in the fish & chip was actually quite delicious but there was only 3 or 4 small pieces and the fries were a little soggy, nothing to write home about. The clam chowder bread bowl was a little weak. The chowder was pretty tastey but they used too much chopped celery as fillers. Take out the celery and it could be tons better.

The highlight of the night was BYOBW afterglow, good company, cold beers, and the fish. Nom nom nom. Oh, and the sloshed bartender.

We always stop at Jacks for a beer when we are walking around Fisherman's Wharf.  Good indoor or outdoor seating, interesting people watching, and a fairly good selection of beer.  I was surprised that they didn't have any Lagunitas, but was satisfied with a good pour of Moylan's Kilt Lifter, and wife had a nice Wheat Ale.  We didn't eat there this time but would if we were not interested in Crabs and Seafood. This is a CASH ONLY bar, so leave your plastic in your pocket.

You know what...a $6.50 pint of beer really DOES taste better! Oh wait, no it doesn't. It tastes exactly the same as a $4 pint. Damnit.

Despite the fact that the beers are ridiculously expensive, apparently Jack can't afford soap dispensers, toilet seat covers, or stall door maintenance in the women's bathrooms.

Beer prices = gross.
Bartender touching the tops of the straws with his dirty bar fingers = really gross.
Random chick puking in the bathroom on TWO separate occasions = typical, and gross.

The bartenders are damn cool, even though they're pretty stale. The brassy, older female bartender frightens me.  The hot British barkeep acted quickly when I informed him the Pyramid Apricot Ale was flat. He quickly had it changed and I was back in service.

The feel of this place is pretty cool - kinda divey, kinda quirky, but - alas, it's in the Wharf so you'll pay double.  All in all, it was still a good time and I met a couple good looking out-a-towners there who ended up buying my expensive beers for me.

Bring cash (no credit cards accepted), bring an ID, bring Lysol for the bathroom - and a strong stomach if the sound of yaking gets to you.

At first we were mesmerized by the wide variety of beer on tap... but service was completely lacking... and cash only?!

Oh and the large groups of drunkards belting to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" in the middle of the afternoon didn't help either.

Meh so no thanks.

This review is for the food service only.

I was walking along Fisherman's Wharf (I'm a local) one day and saw a banner in front of Jacks proclaiming $6.99 for sirloin steak. Wow, what a deal I thought ,so my Significant Other and I made plans to have dinner there. BIG MISTAKE!!!  We found out when placing our order the price just includes the steak and nothing else. Everything else was ala carte.

I see this as deceptive advertising because one logically assumes when a meal is advertised, it includes some sides. Not here so buyer beware.

Definitely will not be back when a place advertises their menu in this way.

As for the food, it was ordinary so don't waste your hard earned money eating here. By the time you include all the sides you could have had a much better meal elsewhere for less.

On the walking tour of Fisherman's Wharf (http://www.sfcityguide...) we stopped in Jack's Bar.  We learned that the wood paneling was hand carved in the 1600s, and that it belonged to Mr. Hearst, (of Hearst Castle) who was keeping it in storage in SF for whatever reason.  I guess I forget the details because I was so mesmorized by the amazing hand carved fireplace and wall paneling.

Later that same night, we stopped in for a beer.  It was 8ish PM on a Friday night, and was kind of expecting a loud noisy crowd.  I was extremely relieved to find it quiet and cozy instead (and rather emptyish).  The kitchen was closed but I didn't care, although it did seem early to close a kitchen to me.

Unfortunately they did not carry my favorite beer among their 85 beers.  Too bad.  The convenience store down the street did, but that's another matter.  We enjoyed a couple of beers, chilled out near the fireplace, and walked back to the hotel.

It was ridiculously expensive (to me, a non-city girl), but probably the norm for SF.  Cash only might be a nuisance to many, but at least they have an ATM on site.

We were down at Aquatic Park for Fleet Week yesterday....
"Suckered" in because of the beer selection.
Waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to the table.
I'm a patient person and I was with good friends.  I didn't really mind.  Mind you, the LISTLESS and LAGGARDLY SERVICE continued straight through till the end of the meal, which took about three times as long as what we would normally take for LUNCH.
Four top.
Three of the $9.99 T-bones.  (you'll definitely get what you expect)
Four sides with the steaks at $2.50 each.
An order of fish n chips.
An order of wings.
Two Porters, two Black n Tans, six shots of Jamesons, and two Cokes.
Lunch bill.....
$160.
Fuck this place.

We stopped in at Jack's for a few beers on Sunday afternoon recently. There were about 4-6 people at the bar at the time. The bartender attended to us for the first round, but when it came time for a 2nd round, he ran past us at least 6-8 times before my husband was finally able to stop him to ask for another beer. Usual bartenders notice when glasses are empty and pushed forward. We got another round and decided that we'd come back for dinner that night, so we left. We came back that night and there were about 3 tables of people eating dinner. No one was 'hostessing' the front, so we sat ourselves. We waited approx. 15 minutes, the waitress walked past us several times to attend to other tables, she didn't even glance our way. Another waitress pointed us out to her, but still nothing. She continued to chat and socialize with the bartender and other waitresses at the bar. She occasionally would tend to the other diners, but not once did she stop at our table, offer us a menu, wipe our table. Nothing. Finally, after waiting for so long, we got up to leave. My husband stopped her and asked 'What does someone have to do to get service around here??" She looked completely dumbfounded. We walked out and took our business (and money!) elsewhere.
Bottom line? Want a good beer? Jack's is not a bad place. Want a good dinner? Go somewhere else!!!

I am completely flabbergasted that someone would say this bar lacks history.   This place is so much more than another Pier 39 tourist trap. The wood paneled walls and fireplace are absolutely gorgeous and historic, over 400 years old.  They were shipped to San Francisco to be installed in Hearst Castle, but when he died, the pieces stayed in the warehouse, part of which is now the back room of Jack's.

Completely unexpected in a dive bar in a random part of Fisherman's Wharf, but it's quirkly little things like these that make me love San Francisco!  It made me sad that so many people seemed to cluster in the bar area, completely missing out on this amazing sight.

Aside from that completely unique detailis which I feel  worth a trip in itself, the bartender was friendly, there was ample seating, and there is a lovely patio in the back.  I found the beer prices reasonable, but apparently I am in the minority here.  Can't vouch for the food, but there is pinball!

Since my friend really likes beer, what better place than Jacks for a large variety?  Well when I walk in, it is busier than when I was last there, but luckily there were a few stools open at the bar.  It's always nice to sit at the bar, maybe watch some sports or just sit and talk with friends and the bartender. Like last time Dara was the man who served us the beer. We actually got a lesson in what a snake bite vs black velvet. When my friend ordered a snake bite which they thought was a Guiness and pear cider, Dara told us that it was called a Black Velvet. A snake bite is lager and pear cider. Well either way since I never tried it, I was down. It was pretty good, but a little sweet for me near the end.  Too much sugar equals possible hangover when consuming mass amounts of alcohol. haha

Later since it was my choice I made my friend take a shot of Jameson whiskey and a pint of Guiness in one hit. Oh how I love the combo.  Drank a few other beers including Pabst beer since I have seen it in the last 2 movies I've watched. Pabst is a fairly light and smooth beer.  I'll be back down to Jacks soon for anyone who wants to go. If I lived in the city I'd hit their happy hour.  You would miss it if you didn't see the small sign near the employee area.

A friend and I came here on the prowl for one specific elusive creature.  The orange rimmed-Blue Moon.  In a funny twist of fate, that was the only beer too shy to show its face in the bar.  Irony is the spice of life.  With my urging, he settled for the more common great white as his kill.  It had a shark on the spout.  How cute is that?

I was fortunate to find a creature I wasn't even hunting.  It was thought to be extinct.  Or at least too endangered be found at the beer zoo of Jack's, but there it was in all it's luscious foamy glory.  The raspberry cider on tap.
I took my trophy to my lips thoughtfully, taking pleasure in the anticipation of the tingle on my tongue.  Then I poured the rest of it down my throat as fast as I could swallow, just so I could get another perfect pint of fizzy pink dew.

For the next round I tried something more adventurous.  I mated the raspberry cider and a distant cousin of the cider, the raspberry stout.  It resulted in a sterile species no use to anyone, something like the mule.  Only this interbreed tasted like a fruity penny had been left in a can of coke too long.  A failure on my part but at least the bartender humored me enough to poor it.

The raspberry cider on tap made our entire safari in the down pouring night of the San Francisco Serengeti in my soggy shoes completely worth it.

I laughed as I read other reviews, Jack's is almost like a legend, the number of beers on taps varies with the storyteller.  You'll just have to go to find out yourself exactly how many beers are on tap...

We were originally drawn in not by the plethora of taps, but by my gambling problem.  I was ready to take a chance with a $9.99 T-bone steak.  Unfortunately, they weren't serving food, possibly because of what sounded like an argument taking place in the back.  I was still satisfied after being referred to two new Hefe brands that I had never tried before.  Jack's is a nice escape from the tourist hell surrounding it and will become a regular stop when I'm in the area.

- 1 star because the cash only thing does suck and $6.25 for a beer just ain't cool.

$6.25 for a pint of beer in a plastic cup cash only?! WTF?

Found the place in a courtyard of a renovated Del Monte cannery off Fisherman's wharf while showing out of town friends around.  Thought we found the perfect oasis away from the tourist trappings of the area. We even had front row seats to a guy was playing acoustical guitar like he's the next Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

Even my friend visiting from Germany who sees anything in dollars as "value priced" because of the exchange rate these days noted what a rip off it was.

Serves me right for even admitting that I was in such a touristy area...

I love Jack's! It's a total dive bar, with many beers on tap. Prices are a little high for beer, but hey, not many places have as many choices as they do. They have Lost Coast's Great White beer! Pretty large bar, with pool and plenty of seating. Though the beer is great, I wouldn't go for the hard alcohol, as the bottles look dusty, and not for the food, since, well it may be a little scary. If you are hungry, just go to In and Out nearby.

This bar gets really crowded during Fleet Week and decently busy on the weekend days. Nights seem to be slowish when I have gone. Perfect to get a table and your beer quickly.

Bathrooms are ok. The women's reminded me of a high school bathroom, with many messages of "I love..." written inside the stalls. Seems like they painted over it, but I would not be surprised if it were started again.

Cash only, but there is an ATM there.

A big part of enjoying yourself at this place, really any place for that matter, is understanding what to expect from it and what purpose it serves.

This is a bar in Fisherman's Wharf. Expect it to be expensive and have terrible food. Bars in general don't have great food, much less one in the most touristy part of the city.

I have been here twice, and both times have been when I'm showing visitors around the city who inevitably want to see the Wharf. We stop in for a beer or two and cruise the Wharf with a decent buzz before moving on to parts of the city where you CAN expect to find cheap booze and/or great food, and there are plenty of places.

Jack's Cannery has an awesome beer selection and a pretty cool atmosphere, even if the guy in there playing an acoustic guitar and singing James Taylor is embarrassingly bad.

The 85 beers sign got us in the door and chose to sit outside on a beautiful day and have a late 2pm lunch.

It took over an hour to get our food, it was horrible. We even didn't get part of our order and was told they were busy inside, so the people outside might have to wait longer (that makes no sense).

Our waiter kept telling another table about the country he was from and was too engaged in conversation that he was getting our orders wrong, forgetting to check on us and even gave 2 couples their orders and their check before we were even served when we were there before them and placed our orders before them.

Bad service overall and the food was not great.

I started coming here in 1997, and I love it. If you want a beer and want to chill near tourism but not in the middle of it, come to Jack's. Right off Ghiradelli near the Fisherman's Wharf area, it's a great location. The beers on tap go for miles, and anytime I know anyone coming to San Francisco, I send them to Jack's!

I remember Jack's as a great place I'd go after my friend/bartender at Pompei's Grotto got tired and booted our drunk asses out every Saturday.  Jack's was always empty, the clientle were cool, the beer plentiful & inexpensive, and the staff were awesome, despite (or because of) their weirdness.  This was a four-star review, and while I my friend left Pompei's and I'm therefore rarely in the Wharf, I would always recommend it for beer lovers and/or large groups.

It was these qualities I remembered when I helped plan a group shindig of 25 this past Saturday.  Things apparently changed.

The waitress was annoyed with us from the start, and every time we'd flag her down, she'd take the order of whoever got her attention and then whip around and leave, despite four other people with raised hands trying to make polite eye contact.

Plus- get this- a pint of Prohibition is six dollars (yes, American).

I used to not mind the fact that this place didn't have any beer that wasn't plentiful all over the city (the typical macrobrews plus Speakeasy, Red Hook, Guinness, Newcastle, Bear Republic...) or the fact that the jukebox kinda sucks or that it's cash only.  But to pay six bucks for a readily available microbrew made a few miles away and having to chase the waitress down to even get that honor?  Pft.

If you want a selection of beer, head to City Beer or Toronado or one of the eight breweries in this fine city.  But after this weekend's experience, I don't see myself coming back to Jack's for much of anything.

So what happened to de Bears today?

...and what the hell was I doing in a testosterone-fueled Irish sports bar in the most touristy part of town, Fisherman's Wharf, on Super Bowl Sunday? Was I dazed and confused...or did I have a momentary surge of machismo insecurity...or did I just get hungry after looking at a queen?

Well, it turns out a bit of all three since I just finished spending the afternoon with my friend waiting for the deluxe Queen Mary II ocean liner to arrive into the bay. We were smelling Davy Jones' locker...or at least his gym socks...on the crescent pier in Maritime Park. Instead of defaulting to our stand-by, In-n-Out, we both acknowledged a hankering for a bowl of clam chowder. And thus, Jack's happened to be on our route.

When you walk in, it looks like a regulation sports bar with a smaller-than-average TV screen above the bar. But then you have to take an odd turn toward the right to find the extended beer bar and then make a sharp left to get to the dining area where it looked like lunch hour at the Shady Pines Retirement Home. Given a circuitous route only Marco Polo could figure out, I thought for sure we would be ignored. And I was right, but once we told the bartender upfront that we needed menus, the service improved.

Our sweat-shirted waitress was friendly and sadly seemed to be the only one serving all the tables. But we all persevered. The food, as it turned out, was mediocre. We ordered some popcorn shrimp, which came on a small plate and had the texture of a botched microwave job - overly moist and not crispy. It wasn't helped by the ketchupy sauce that seemed like only a distant relative to cocktail sauce. But who am I kidding?...we ate it all up.

Our bowls of chowder were good-sized and full of fresh clams, but the broth was quite watery, a bit of a letdown given that they flaunt how the Chronicle deemed theirs as the best chowder in the city. It did come with a big hunk of crusty sourdough bread, always a treat. Along with our drinks, the bill came to $32 for the two of us, a tad pricey...but it is the wharf after all.

The interiors are dominated by dark wood paneling and all shades of forest green with a most meticulously crafted ceiling. We were actually lucky to get the booth closest to the front bar since we could watch Prince's half-time show at the Super Bowl on the TV. Unfortunately I can't comment on the beers since I didn't have one this time, but they seem to have quite a few on tap. and no one seemed particularity disappointed with the selection.

FOOD - 2.5 stars...passable fare though the chowder disappoints
AMBIANCE - 3 stars...typical Irish bar except for the zig-zag route to the dining area
SERVICE - 3 stars...once the rescue party found us, we were fine
TOTAL - 3 stars barely...and only because my expectations were so low for a place on Fisherman's Wharf

For a dive and half - it's perfect!  Never been able to find another place with so many beers on tap!
Been here many a times... not a place you go for romantic date, or to meet guys/girls, but they have a jukebox with good tunes, and like I said - the beer, I think the latest count is 110 beers on tap.  You go to have good beer and a fun time with friends...
yeah, people say it's dirty - and it kinda is, but it's a dive bar/pub with great and hilarious bartenders and one more time - a lot of beer!
Great for all my fellow dive bar lovers, not so great for the folks who only like to party in the marina, or around the corner at Dirty Martini.

I used to be the Activities Coordinator for Hostelling International. I brought a group of hostelers from Fort Mason here a few years back. It was cool. We were at Lou's first, indulged in Happy Hour drinks, apps and live Blues. After a while we realized it was way to loud and scooted on over th Jack's for some peace and conversation.

Jack's is cool, but the staff that day were kinda rude. I'm giving it an extra star for the beer selection as it's quite extensive.

Turns out the bartender ripped one of the girls a new one for not tipping! I know it's gotta be frustrating working in such a tourist infested area of the city. I'm sure this happens a lot. But shit woman, YOU work in a tourist infested bar in tourist infested Fisherman's Wharf in tourist infested San Francisco!!! There are plenty of other bars you can work in! We all make choices in life, suck it up!! She nearly made the poor girl cry. I'm a strong believer that the way to getting things your way is by being nice and helping people. If she had just found a nice, polite way to confront the girls, I'm sure they would have been happy to drop some extra cash her way. Instead, she completely set a bad tone and contributed to what started off as a very awkward experience.

We got over it though, hope the bartender did too.

Very good on tap beer selection.  (I'm a beer snob so it only gets a very good).  Very friendly service.

Hopfishead 90 minute IPA on tap.  That is a fantastic selection.  A 9% Imperial IPA (double to triple).

Definitely on my list to come back to.

I would rather burn my money than spend it in this shithole.  Terrible, terrible food.  Clam chowder should never have been served.  It was basically warm milk with three pieces of canned clams.  Cold french fries.  The most expensive miller lite ever.  ordered chicken wings with no sauce, just deep fried frozen chicken wings on a plate.  terrible service too.  our waitress must have had an infected piercing in her anus, as she never smiled or acted friendly at all.  worst $80 i ever spent.  have no idea how they're in business.  expensive, bad food, bad service.  hopefully somebody burns this place down.  the owner must be an idiot to let his business be run this way.  stay as far away as possible.

The tune of 85 beers on tap is a siren call to my ears.....

But still.....

I almost feel as if I'm being stingy with my star rating. I'd like to give it  a two and a half, even 2 1/4 because I have to admit the whole 85 beer thing and the smoking patio outside are big perks.

Still though.....

There is no ambience in here. No style, no zip, nada. There's no lively energy of enthusiastic tourists nor a trace of sulking brooding drunks sipping the day away in a place where time doesn't exist. There's no sense of history, there are no characters working behind the bar. I'd like to blame Fisherman's Wharf for this over sight and say that SF sanitizes it's bars near the touristy spots but then I remember a few other bars centrally located in prime tourist spots (Union Square, other parts of Fisherman's Wharf/ Embarracadero,  etc). They have characters, charisma and charm (or lack there of). I'd find more personality at a TGI Friday's for chrissake! I have a feeling I could get tanked here and still not find it interesting.

So yeah 2 stars....

Plus I have to be honest, it's kind of hard for me to justify the whole $6 pint thing in a place like this to my wallet.

This place is cool little spot to stop for beer if you're wandering down by the warf and become a little dehydrated. I believe there are 84 different beers on tap (I only know because it was on the bartenders' shirts), and decently priced ($6.50) which is a plus.   Another plus is the vintage decor; I sat  in the dinning room part of the bar with the funky old wood paneling and huge fire place.  Pretty cool, this place has a lot of history!! I didn't know that Jack's served food but am sure that I would never try it.  It's one of my top five rules in life, "don't eat food from a bar."  Defenitely would come back.

Great place, loved the live music for the 4th.  The list of 85 beers on tap is great, but stick to those instead of mixed drinks, which can take a long time to get since bartenders are often busy.

Ladies, watch out for the looooong wait on busy days- there are 3 stalls but one without a door.

Bar is cash only as well.

One of the best things about Yelp is that when you find a place like this you can give it the proper review.
I am fairly easy to please but this place did everything incorrectly.
1) Happy Hour goes from 3 to 5 (who gets off then???)
2) No, we do not take credit cards BUT we do have an ATM machine over there that charges $2 (and your bank charges $2)
(note that I hate carrying cash and rarely go to  places that choose to be cash)
3) The bathroom had air dryers. The only air dryer that I think is not annoying is the one in Kennedys.
4) We asked for a bill and the staff seemed really annoyed.

Normally I do not go out in this part of town and this sort of says why...
I ended up eating next door as they DO accept credit cards...

First of all, a huge drawback that this bar is in Fisherman's Wharf. However, easy street parking since most tourists are walking around. It was pretty dead when I went, and this was on a Friday night.

The only reason I decided to go to Jacks was the huge selection of beer listed on their website. The beers tasted alright, but personally not worth $6 a pint. Beers are $3.25 during happy hour, which is extremely early (from 3 - 5pm I think). Don't think I'll be returning unless for some bizarre reason I'm in the neighborhood.

I randomly went here to get drinks while waiting for my food at the Hooters down the block.  I went here again after Thanksgiving dinner, and after my gin and tonic at the Buena Vista Cafe sucked.

I think I like this place more than most just because of the sentimental attachment I have to it.  Also, it doesn't take much to impress me, and when you have 80+ beers on tap (according to the other Yelp reviews on here -- I've seen the long line of beers, but didn't take the time to sit and count... I'm sure there was a sign outside that said, though), then that's more than impressive to me.

The bartenders aren't spectacular, and I've never ordered mixed drinks or food here, so my four stars goes to their awesome selection of beer and the fact that I'd go here again if I'm ever looking to get drunk at Fisherman's Wharf.

This is my favorite place to hang in San Francisco.  The people are great, you can't beat it's laid back atmosphere and the beer selection is fabulous!

Sal, Alex and Paul are friendly.  Willing to talk about the beers, the weather or whatever!  It is a cash only bar...and that's fine with me.
I was here 15 years ago, 10 years ago, this weekend, and next time I go to San Francisco.
