Nice place to get a sandwich and a beer. Their Penalty Shot Porter is great -- if you like hearty dark beers. I heard somewhere that if a place brews beer and sells it then they MUST, by law, also offer food. I'm not sure if that is true or not. But if so, then it explains a few things. Go for the beer. The food is secondary. Although not at all bad. I enjoy the fish and chips.

Saying Fremont has a lack of late-night options is an understatement. So while Jack's Brewing Company isn't open late (I believe they closed at 11pm on the Friday we were there), at least it's different and has some character!

It was packed because some sport or game or something that I guess guys like was on T.V. I don't know, whatever...but I can say I was one of only about 5 girls in the place. I guess that's fair enough, given the circumstances.

The service was fast and pretty attentive. I really liked whatever their berry brew was. It wasn't too sweet, but was fruity, unique, and flavorful. I'd go back just for that beer. The garlic fries we ordered didn't blow me away, but they did a good job of stifling my hunger.

Oh and this might come as a shock, but although it looks like they have a full-bar, they don't. So don't expect anything but beer or wine. I'd suggest the beer (it is a brewery).

Our server even came by and let us know they'd be closing soon, just to see if we wanted her to bring out multiple beers at once. I held back; I'm not that much of a lush, afterall...but I found that to be both considerate and good for their business. Smart woman.

I've eaten here twice already. The first time was during the end of football season with my husband and daughter. Though the place was crowded, we were seated right away. Because there were football games showing on several TVs and a bunch of loud fans, both my hubby and daughter were entertained. That time I had their Philly Cheesesteak sandwich - very good in taste and portion. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries for my daughter, who loves cheese. Didn't understand why she wouldn't eat the sandwich until I took a bite and realized that the bread was sourdough. It was fine for me, but she obvious didn't care much for the taste. Also had the apricot mango beer. Yum! Didn't finish because I'm not much of a beer drinker. That being said, I still thought it was pretty tasty.

Today, my friend, Misty and I brought our kids for an early lunch. My daughter and her son "shared" the mini corn dogs and fries. I had the fish and chips, Misty had the chicken taco and we both shared the garlic fries. The garlic fries were DA BOMB! I thought the fish was good (batter was crisp and golden, not too greasy); the 3 pcs was the perfect amount for lunch.

Service at this place has been impeccable. Our servers have been nice and friendly. Food was served fast. And we've received just the right amount of attention without the over-hovering.

I recommend for small groups and folks with kids. Or just a casual tete-a-tete with a friend (esp. if you don't want those at the next table to overhear your conversation).

A very cool place to watch a game, any game, on one of the many TVs or the awesome big screen (Go Warriors!)

I had to "umm, excuse me" multiple times to get any service, even before we had our beers.  Then she basically rolled her eyes when asked a question or to split the bill.

The BBQ beef sandwich consisted of a single piece of sourdough, piled with potato salad and a few slices of BBQ-ed beef strips.  I regretted the potato salad all night....and don't think I could eat here again.

We celebrated our uncle's birthday here last year. Food was alright. Wasn't too memorable. Though I liked their hef/blonde brewski. Not sure if I would want to come back and eat there again. This used to be Bob's Big Boy back in the day.

This was okay for me. I don't know, I can't put my finger on it...it lacks personality and service. Service wasn't up to par for me.

I like Jack's. My husband and I have a policy of not eating at chain restaurants whenever we possibly can avoid them, and Jack's is a good burger place, with an atmosphere that's not manufactured, like at Chili's. They don't charge extra for veggie patties on the burgers, and that's what we usually eat. I like their mashed potatoes -- I usually get those instead of fries for a $1 substitution. Sometimes that salad is a bit over-dressed -- too much cheese and croutons, not enough lettuce. I'm not a beer connoisseur or anything like that, but I think their micro-brewed beer is good. I usually get their Mango Apricot or Boys of Summer Wheat. It's a good place to go during baseball season if you want to go out to eat, but don't want to miss any of the game. I suppose that's true for any sports season, but I don't care about other sports.

Ok ok, I am not a beer person ;-P  I am just gonna review this place based on how I feel about their food, service and the setting.

Overall I am not impressed. Jack's Brewing Company is lack of the commercial tacky fun that those chain brewery restaurants provide, but at the same time it's also lack of the coziness and charm that a local brewery restaurant should have. It's kind of like an "in between" place and it's never quite anywhere. Food is mediocre and the service is friendly but slow.

You can't help but feel like something is missing from the place, perhaps they need a more unique signature dish? a more distinguish tasting beer? a cozier setting?

I would've given this place 3 stars but I couldn't get over the fact that it was freezing in the restaurant at a sunny Sunday afternoon. We actually couldn't wait to finish our meal and left the restaurant ASAP since it was actually warmer outside. I really wanted to like this place since there aren't many local brewery restaurants in the area. Too bad it didn't work out for me.

My friends and I have dinner every other Tuesday and we try to go to a different restaurant each time and this one happened to be one our Tuesday Night Dinners (TND).

We have actually come here twice and I thought the place was okay.  Besides being a micro brewery, it's your typical American restaurant, with the same food.  Once my friend ordered their meatloaf sandwich and said it was the best ever so maybe I should try that.

The place to me was rather plain and I feel I could get the same thing anywhere else.

A more mellow version of BJ's with food that's not as impressive.

Sesame Salad - Always, always ALWAYS get the dressing on the side.  I made the mistake of not asking for that and regretted it terribly.  It was so drenched in the super sweet sesame dressing that I couldn't enjoy the greens.  The chicken skewers were also dry & overcooked.  I got this as part of the "Express Lunch" menu and it came out a lot smaller than expected but probably the portion that you should be eating.

Beer Battered Onion Rings - These are not onion rings, these are practically DONUTS!  The batter is so thick that you really shouldn't be eating more than 2-3 pieces.  The flavor is great though.  Please share among 4-5 people.

Homemade Root Beer - Brewed on the premises.  Yummy!  Light and refreshing.

Service was decent.  About 50% of the restaurant was full but the food came out in a timely manner.  We ordered the onion rings after we had already started eating our entrees and it still came out before we finished.

This is definitely a guys' joint.  I can't say that I would come back...

I know it's off topic, but does anyone else remember when this building was a Bob's Big Boy?  I was really little then, but I remember walking through the doors and seeing that horribly dressed statue.  Jack's Brewing Company was definitely a good replacement (although I'm not sure if there were other restaurants at this location in between them).  I've been coming here with family for years.  I wish I could remember the name of the salad I get almost every time.  It's some sort of Asian chicken salad, and they put the chicken on skewers.  It is super yummy.

It's amazing the number of televisions they fit into one room, but they do a good job of keeping a variety of sports on at all times.  I mean, when you have twenty teevees it's not difficult to have three or four different events playing.  Sometimes you can even catch some figure skating... because I know everyone goes to brew pubs for the figure skaters.

The only negative experience I've had here was when I ordered an artichoke pasta dish, and it came out with no artichokes on it whatsoever.  Instead there were a lot of mushrooms, and I can't stand mushrooms.  I alerted my server to this, she apologized, and she brought it back a few minutes later exactly the same but with some artichoke hearts thrown on top.  Kinda gross and unprofessional.  I guess that's what I get for ordering pasta at a brew pub though.  It's not exactly their specialty.  I think I'll stick to my usual salad from now on.

As long as you order some typical pub food you shouldn't be disappointed here.  The service is always quick and friendly.

It's the only brewery in Fremont, and I am glad they have it.  It is a pretty decent size with a patio and an explosion of sports.  They don't serve hard liquor, beer and wine only.  The food is a little salty and there are many fried options.  They have a little patio outside overlooking the beautiful hub's parking lot, I wish they had a few more healthy options.  Some of their beers taste better than others.  I like the boys of summer.  There is also a foosball tornado table if you are waiting for a table, but usually the wait isn't long.  The service is what you would expect from a brewery, not fine dining, but attentive.

Our family really enjoys Jacks.  The kids play foosball after we eat, the service is warm and friendly, hubby loves the beer (try the sampler - 6 little glasses), esp pumpkin and the dark, dark ale.  Never had a bad meal there - love the salmon salad (a big hunk of salmon on greens and tortilla strips), fish'n'chips, fries (vinegar on the tables for fries!), and so on.  Though the prices are reasonable, they're not cheap.  So if we're not going to watch a game that's not on tv, we tend not to go.  For the rugby lover - just ask.  I often walk in and ask for the game we want to watch, and they seat us accordingly or change the channel on a tv near us.

I love this place! On a hot summer day, there's no other place in all of Fremont that quences like Jacks.  Their salad with grilled chicken or ahi is MMMMM-good!  There's outdoor seeting hotness too.

BJ's is better but this is Fremont and Fremont has Jack's so thats all I gots to say about that.

Jack's TV's could use some updating though.  C'mon Jack! put some money on plasma TVs.

Edit: I just came back to Jacks and Jack has some plasmas now.

I adore this place.  The food is real and good.  The beer is fabulous and the atmosophere is welcoming.  But if you're not a sports fan (which I am not) don't go on a game night!  It gets crowded and waiting for a table could mean waiting until the game is over.

If you go for lunch they make a mean BLT!

Maybe because I came on a Tuesday night (8:45 PM).... but this place WAS empty!! I kinda liked it though. This must be an older brewery compared to BJ's and those other joints.

My girlfriends and I came here after we had practice and ordered the monster platter (chimi's, garlic fries, onion rights, buffalo wannngs), calamari, and two pitchers of beer (apricot ale). All of which were pretty satisfying. Although, I've had better samplers at other places and better calamari, but these dishes still had the capability of making me smile and with a full belly. The beer was reallllly good. That I liked. It was very light, but yet had a slight bitterness to it.

Next to our table was a huge screen showing the Orlando and Sac game. That was cool. Go Kings (my second favorite bball team)!!!

Our server was very nice. She was very attentive and always asked if we wanted more beer. Out of us 6 ladies, 4 of them used their credit card to pay for their portion of the bill. Hahaha. I felt bad for the waitress, but she was kind enough to run my 4 friends' cc's.

So if you feel like going somewhere low key, wanna eat somewhere cheap, have a few good beers, and watch some games... then this place should do it for you... Sounds like a really cool place to bring your next date to. Hehe... ;)

Love Jacks...love the beer...love the artichoke dip even more...and love the fact that its around the corner from my house! I have never had bad service here, and am usually at a loss as to which of my favorites I am going to order (the asian chicken salad, the quesadillas, or the fish and chips). Guess that's not so bad of a problem to have!

Jack's Brewing Company is awesome!!  Love the beers and the food is excellent brew pub fair.  Their IPA is the best I've ever tried.  The food is priced very reasonably.  There is some new guy on Saturday mornings that my wife and I love.  I hear they might open another location in the valley soon.  I hope so since we're moving to Livermore.

Jack's beer is good, food is mediocre.  I've been there for both lunch and dinner and the food is just so so -- but i'm guessing it is what traditional beer pub food is like...

The ambiance is a cross between a sports bar and a beer pub.  Love that they have outside seating.  Great for a beer and a read in the summer, just too bad that it faces a parking lot.  Back to the whole sports bar thing, so yea, it can be distracting but i guess it's good for business.

Great beer selection and fast service.  Bummer that they close super early during the week, like at 10pm!  i think they may be open till midnight on the weekends, not sure.

Beer is priced right, food is a little expensive.

There's nothing like a cold pint on a hot summer day. The brewmeister makes some tasty ales. The pale ale is my favorite. Now they do some seasonals as well....the IPA is outstanding. Plus it has a high alc. %.

The food is also decent. Buffalo wings, calamari, shrimp skewers, burgers, sandwiches and some really nice salads. They have a bunch of other stuff too.....quesadillas, burritos etc. Oh, I almost forgot the nachos! Order them to share though.

Now, if your a sports buff, they have several tvs as well as 2 big screens. During Niner games it can get a bit loud in there so if you don't like a bunch of beer-drinking, shouting people....go in the off-season.

Nicole is a wonderful bartender. She always remembers us and what we like to drink. She's always there with the refill before you even ask. A quality every bartender should posess.

The food comes out fast and hot/cold whichever it's supposed to be.I've only been disappointed once. (Don't order the jalapeno poppers)

Next time you feel like a nice pint of locally brewed beer, try Jack's.

The service was fast and friendly, and the place had an easy feel to it. Unfortunately, that is where anthing good ended. The food was nearly inedible. My partner's chicken dish was not even remotely what was described in the menu, and was "nasty" according to him. I ordered a BBQ burger, which arrived with a very soggy, almost waterlogged bun, wilted lettuce, and cooked to death. The fries were cold and greasy. YUCK!

I like it here... especially when my ADHD is in gear.  When you're itching for sports every where you turn and for typical pub fare, head over to Jack's.

I like the Mango Wheat beer (I know, I know, I'm a lightweight) but my hubby goes for the IPA and enjoys that.  We even have a Jack's growler in our kitchen cabinet.  It's good to get it filled up for parties.

They have cozy booths or wooden tables.  You can even eat outside on their patio.  I personally prefer the booths (comfy!).  Service has been consistently friendly (one waitress even complimented me on my earrings one night) and efficient.

The food is decent.  You can order the wings spicy and they're pretty good.  I've had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich - it's so so compared to others.  I do like their Club Sandwich or BLT.  Pretty basic and not that hard to mess up, right?!  Burgers are good and they give just the right amount of fries (I can clear my plate without exploding!).

All in all, we stop by Jack's whenever we're in the mood for pub grub...or if there's a game that my hubby must see on the big screen!

A good place for a beer and a solid comfort-food meal (mostly sandwiches, burgers, tasty appetizers, etc).  Very comfortable atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and sports on TVs all around (although not turned up loud, so it is still a good place to chat over a meal).  I recommend calling up some friends and meeting for some garlic fries.  Numm.

Jack's is a great pub/brewery.  They have a good selection of beers including some really great seasonal brews such as the pumpkin ale in October.  The staff is friendly and the food is good.  I highly recommend the tailgater burger or the fish and chips, both are to die for!!!!  You can garlic fries instead of regular fries for pretty cheap (not sure exactly how much) and if your into sports they have a ton of TV's for you to watch your favorite teams play.

I come here a lot...no im not an alcoholic. Their beer is off the heezy. I cant think of a beer i like more. I blame this place for the weight i put on. Their amber ale and wheet are the best. They also have a lot of tv's, and of course their all on sports. Makes a perfect place to have some beer and watch football. Their food isnt bad, a bit greasy but try their appetizer sampler its good. The waiters here are all pretty cool even if one of them hated on my hawk and the lady who looks like shes running the place, i dont know if shes the owner or what, but shes a bitch...hecka rude, but the waiters are cool. Only thing is everytime i come here theres hella niner fans and im the only one wearing a raider jersey. Raider fans need to start showing up and showing some support, because man i get ripped by all the niner fans here. But their not too bad, nothing personal its all just good fun.

I have been here for lunch twice. Have had the BBQ burger both times and thought it was great. I'm tempted to try their ribs since I really like the BBQ sauce. I'm not a beer drinker so I can't comment...I've had the heffen one with lots of lemons and it was somewhat good for beer!!

We watched one of the World Cup games here...since comcast sucks!...and got to watch the whole game while having lunch...we never felt like we needed to leave or never asked to not cheer!

We tend to come here once a month or so for TGIF's....just sit at the bar or hang out at a booth...service has always been good. Always a good time.

I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this place. As a co-worker and I were trolling the neighborhood, the blandness of the strip mall was cut but this 70's style building. Seemed like a decent crowd of cars in front so we gave it a try.  As you walk in there are a row of booths to the left, paralleled by  tables and then the bar area on the left. The kitchen is in the back left and the brew tanks are partitioned off by large glass windows. At least a dozen TVs surround the place with the walls being adorned with sports memorabilia.

Since it was obviously a sports bar/brewpub I was focused on getting bar fare. I saw a pastrami sandwich on grilled sourdough, with Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard and sauerkraut that caught my eye. My co-worker opted for the Dijon chicken over mashed potatoes. Since it was lunch I wasn't going to get my drink on but noticed they didn't make a stout. However they do carry Guinness on tap, which in my eyes, if you're going to carry a stout that you don't make, that should be it. So definite plus points there.

Sandwich came out nicely grilled with a heaping side of crisp fries. Pastrami was juicy (steamed with their wheat beer they say) , not too salty and the bread was toasty. Sauerkraut and Dijon were nice touches to compliment the sandwich. Co-worker was quite happy with his chicken so the food was thumbs up. The waitress was pretty friendly, although a bit distracted since we were there past 1, and she seemed to be the only one handling the whole bar.

I figure this to be a great place to watch some games and grub but the menu is extensive enough for the occasional lunch run. Good to see something that is not a chain like most of the places in the area.

I read about this place on one of the talk threads and stopped by tonight with a girl friend who lives nearby to catch up over some beers and pub food.

After we got the food order out of the way - I ordered a cheeseburger and pumpkin ale and she the fish & chips and apricot ale, we started talking about life.

Here's a snippet of our conversation:

Friend: So are you still seeing that guy?

Me: Which one?

F: The one you like but don't like (using air quotes around the second like)

M: Oh him.  Yeah, we decided we were better off as friends.  Block that kick bitch!  I loved his baseball knowledge but his in-the-sack knowledge... meh.

F: It's okay...  Damn Blue, that wasn't a f%$ing strike!  What the f%$@!?! l...  Don't settle.  There will be others.

M: I'm really not tripping about it.  Oh my God Jenks, I'll kick your ass if you blow this save!  I'll survive.

F: It's 7:18.  Why the hell aren't they showing the Giants game yet?

Jack's - a good place to watch sports and eat decent pub food (the nachos were pretty delish).  A not so good place to catch up with your girlfriends.

P.S.  The service was awesome.  Our server told us to take our time with the bill and stay as long as we'd like so that we can watch more of the A's and Giants games.

P.P.S. They're open at 9am on Saturdays and Sundays for football fans.  I might have to come back and check that out.

P.P.P.S.  I have no clue why both of us are still single?!?!

I have been to Jack's quite a few times. I have a friend whose a regular and is part of the mug club or whatever they call it and has a big beer stein on the shelf that they fill when you arrive at a discounted price. Pretty cool actually.
I must admit the first few times I've been there the food was gross and not very plentiful.
Being my friend loves the place cuz the beer is good,- I am here somewhat frequently.  They have large tv's to watch games (during world cup its lots of fun)I found something good to eat after a few not so great dishes, (shrimp salad, chicken sandwich and fish and chips-were let downs).
I found the Quesadilla and salad combo which is hard to screw up which is on their lunch menu good everytime, also have discovered their garlic fries are good and their buffalo wings. Heard their BBQ burger was good as well.Through others I can get recommendations on the good things on the menu since  will not waste money experimenting on trying something i haven't had before and been grossed out.
There are some negatives to this place but I can go in and get a beer whenever, hang out in the patio and enjoy the weather and the good company of friends over buffalo wings, fries and quesadilla salad combo. Service is really friendly and accomadating and they can put mozzarella on your garlic fries oh my!

I've eaten here quite a few times.... I think it's one of the few places in Fremont that serves up Guiness on tap, which I like a lot. They also have a really good hefeweisen in the summer season. I'm not a beer connoisseur, so I can't really compare their home brews to other places, but I've always finished my pints!

Food wise, it's a toss up. Some things are good and some things are okay. Their burgers are good. Their Arctic cod and fries are pretty good, if a bit heavy. I recently had their salmon salad, and while tasty, it gave me some serious gas. Don't know why. It did the same for a friend of mine. It could be the jalapeno poppers, too... or the onion ring I ate. Who knows? It tasted good going down, but my body didn't care for it that much.

I think in the future I"ll stick to the things that have worked for me: the burgers and beers. After all, it's a pub. That's what they do best.

I can't comment on their beer.  I've only  been a few times for lunch.  It's ok, but would not be a place that I would suggest to go to.  I've had the fish and chips.  The fish was full of batter and greasy.  Yesterday, I had the Salmon Salad.  It tasted really really good.  I went back to work and I had GAS the whole afternoon!  Couldn't figure out if I needed to do more or not. LMAO......

gave this four stars for the quality of the beer.  my salad tasted fine, but it turned into a soupy mess at the bottom of the bowl.

i came here to watch the warriors game last night, and it was pretty cool.  who knew there was such a happening sports bar/brewery in fremont.  i had the mango beer which was a light wheat beer, and it was tasty.  we started w/ the artichoke dip, which came w/ some french bread for dipping.  i had the southwest chicken wrap which came in a low carb tortilla and had a small side salad.  i have come to distrust anything that is "low carb" b/c it is code-name for slimy.  it was just weird.  i should have gone w/ something else instead, b/c the other pub-like food looked a lot better.

the highlight of this place is that there are a ton of tv's all around the place showing baseball, basketball, etc., so you have a good vantage point wherever you sit!

GREAT burgers!  I haven't had a burger this good in a long time.  The Hefeweizen was pretty solid too.  Seating by the big screens could be a lil better but other than that, this is a good place to watch sports and enjoy a burger.

Went there tonight but been many other times prior.  Cool atmosphere, not real wild or loud but still hip and fun. (Starting to notice more young people now than before).  FAVORITE thing to order there is called the "MIXED GRILL"  (it's no longer on the menu but the old school cooks know what it is if you order it)  waitresses wont have a clue though unless they been workin there awhile.  its a plate with grilled chicken, 3 grilled shrimps on a skewer, beans and a salad.  ($12.95) The salad is always nice and cold and I absolutely love the crispy colored tortilla strips they put on the salad!  They even gave me some to go in a box tonight! HAHA.  I actually tried something different tonight (Penne Chicken and Artichoke Heart Pasta $10.95) which was good and different but probably wouldn't get that again.   Boyfriend ordered their homemade root beer which was good...didn't have the carbonation that normal root-beer would have.  There is a large selection of beers brewed right there on site and they will let you try and sample them first.  Nice local Fremont pub to have a few beers.  Many T.V's but the only other entertainment is a Foosball table.  No pool, darts or other Pub activities.  Many T.V's showing a variety of sports.  Cool, safe location and fun for a weekday evening or weekend night.

I had some debate on this review with my wife about how to rate our meal here. Basically, the food was decent and the atmosphere was very normal for a brew pub.  Good service, a nice looking foosball table,  screens with sports, and bar complete with regulars, all adds up to an effective hangout. I judge my brewpubs by burger usually, so that's what I ordered.   It's cooked to order, which is worth a star right there.  The bun is a good choice, high quality with a dense skin and chewy inside, but mine was over-toasted or something and kinda crispy.  The lettuce was romaine, which added even more crunch factor. So the burger had a lot of potential, but didn't totally synergize for me, although still a solid contender.  I tried their Pale Ale brew, and thought it had more woody flavor and less froth than I'm used to in a PA.
My wife had a chicken wrap, which came with a salad, and reported both to be good.  "Real grilled chicken" and not just the bag stuff. The homemade root beer had a nice bite (although served with ice, ouch)
So although the meal didn't knock our socks off, it was still good enough. I rate it high because it's independent, and they are making beer in our hometown. I plan to hang out here more often.

Jack's is a pretty good brewery with a great ambiance. There fruit flavored breers are pretty different and "light beer" drinkers would love them.

Artichoke dip and bread, chicken wings are pretty good.

Tables are well laid out and there are spots where it is pretty quiet - A great place to conclude a business meeting for the day.

Watched the world cup here... obviously great for watching sports with their projectors and several tv's. The food is alright, it's just like any other bar food.

Beers? Tasteless overpriced urine.
Food? Normal Pub food.
Atmosphere? Hell, I gave them 2 stars, what more do you want?

Service was warm and cheerful. Too bad I can't say the same for their brews. Most of their beer tastes like it has too much wood. It has a lot of bite but not enough flavor. The lighter beer tastes like water. Their chicken wings are ok, quite greasy and not the best I've had.

Great place to watch sport except for hockey. If you are going for the beer, i suggesst the heffeweizen. Most people like the porter since it has the most flavor but it has the least alcohol content. Not good for people on a diet!
