It was a sunday and I was frantically looking for a bike shop that was open when I went to Jack & Adams.  No one was in the shop but the staff continued to talk amongst themselves rather than assist me.   When I approached them looking for a crank for my fixed gear they made me feel like a huge dummy.  I am not a fan of theirs.

I've been to Jack and Adam's about three times now, and the best I can muster is a half-hearted "Eh." As another reviewer mentioned, I'd much rather that this place had stayed a Kentucky Fried Chicken. The interior is really cramped, and from what I could see they don't have a very big selection of bikes. I understand that they target triathletes, so they're not going to carry a bunch of hybrids, urban, or off-road bikes, but I think that other shops in town (most notably Austin Tri-Cyclist and Bicycle Sport Shop) satisfy this niche market more effectively.

Based on the shop alone, I'd probably give Jack and Adam's two stars. However, they have a really good web site and they have jumped into the Austin fitness community with both feet. They seem to be taking a page from the Run-Tex business model by hosting training sessions, sponsoring events, and being very active in the community in general. My first time there, I rode into the parking lot and had to stop short because there were about 40 people laying on yoga mats in the front of the store out into the parking lot. I learned later that they host free core workouts twice a week. So all that stuff is pretty cool. Maybe it'll work out for them and they'll be able to expand into a bigger location and offer a better selection. And then maybe KFC will realize its folly and come groveling back.

These guys are sponsoring my training group, so I thought I'd check it out. I needed new slick tires and wanted to get a fitting. On a Saturday, it was seriously hopping, and I couldn't have felt more out of place. Being a triathlon newbie, this place intimidated me a bit. The soonest fitting was a week and a half away--they don't do them on weekends--and they were out of the tires I needed. I know it's the middle of race season, so I should expect the craziness. I may try them again--on an off day--but there are other bike shops I feel more comfortable with.

Hands down, one of the best places to buy a bike in Austin.  The first time I came into this store, I was looking around for a mid-range road bike.  They didn't throw me onto a bike that looked like it would fit -- they took my measurements and then recommended a bike.  After I bought this bike, I came in a few times, and the whole staff learned my name.

When I got my tri bike, the most impressive thing was that they steered me away from a $3K full carbon bike because it didn't fit.

If you're looking for one on one service, come in on a weekday and be patient -- it's well worth your time.  You get really nice, knowledgeable people who understand the customer experience.

AWESOME!!
I have been to this place three times now and I have to say it is the BEST shop in town.  Each time I have been in I am greeted at the door and asked if I need help.  The staff is extremely knowledgeable and makes you feel very welcome!
This last time I went they weren't even open and one of the staff opened the door while I was waiting to let me know that they wouldn't be opening for another 20 minutes.  I told them I would wait since I needed to repair a flat.  Upon hearing that I had a flat and was willing to wait she let me in and let me purchase a tube and fix my tire with the shop's tools.
I have been to other bike shops in town and NO OTHER BIKE SHOP COMES CLOSE TO JACK & ADAM'S CUSTOMER SERVICE!!  THEY ARE THE BEST!!!

I had been shopping for a bike for a while... craigslist, other bike shops and so I stopped in at Jack & Adam's a few times to check out their selection.  They specialize in road & tri bikes and their staff is really friendly and helpful.
They showed me their bikes and I told them I was going to shop around a little more.  The guy helping me suggested that I get measured (a free service) so that I would know my frame size.
I continued to shop then stopped back by J&A's and I decided to test ride a road bike.  I loved the bike they put me on, it was within my budget and I purchased it.
I must say that who ever runs this shop is SMART!!!  The staff is very friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome.  They also really know their stuff.

I highly recommend you visit this shop if you are in the market for a road or tri bike!  If you have had a back experience I suggest you give them another shot!  I will not shop at any other bike shop.  I am a customer for life!

Hands down one of the best bike shops around. I have been in bike shops all over the world and this is the busiest one I have ever seen. Now I know why they are busy. The staff is always available to greet you and help you find anything you need. I like bicycle sport shop for my mountain bike gear and these guys for my triathlon and road gear.

Full disclosure: These guys apparently sponsored my cycling team. Other than a logo on a jersey, I didn't benefit from this directly, though, and I had already bought my bike before this relationship was established.

So, last January, my other half got stolen right from under my nose. My beloved, flat black Specialized Allez Sport that actually got me off the couch and into cycling got stupidly left out for three hours one morning.

I shopped and test rode at at least 6 or 7 shops in town. And, you know what? They all seem to do what they do really well.

But Jack and Adam's (Jack and Diane's as I call them) put me on the right bike for me at that right time. It's that simple. I rode lots of bikes, but they had the right one in the right size at the right price and knew enough to tell me to try it. And I can think of no higher praise than that. Other than saying this bike (sometimes) makes me forget the unbelievable sense of loss I had when that Allez Sport got stolen.

I should ride more.

Also, tell me where, other than Austin, a KFC gets turned into a bike shop?

Unless you're a hard-core racing cyclist, you'll feel out-of-place. And I miss my KFC.

I've been to Jack and Adam's twice.

1) looking for a handlebar bag.  They don't carry any sort of commuting or touring gear--don't bother looking here.

2)  At a friend's recommendation, I went to get fitted on my bike.  I expected lots of measurements and advice.  What I got was an even shorter tube, and my seat slightly raised.  OK, but I was expecting more for my $49.95, and it only took 15 minutes.

Also, make sure to ASK before they slap equipment on.  I only found out at checkout that the stem cost $40.  I wish I'd asked if they had cheaper stems, but it was too late.

My husband and I have checked out a couple of other cycling places around town, and wanted to give this one a shot to compare prices.

We took my bike in to get the bar ends of my bike plugged to fufill a requirement for our triathlon.  Besides the plugs, we also wanted to get 2 race belts, 1 set of brake pads, and a water bottle cage.  We got all of that for $30.  The prices on all items were cheaper than we'd seen anywhere else.  The employees were really quick to help us, despite it being a busy Sunday afternoon, and got us all we needed in just a few minutes.  I'm pretty pleased with my experience at Jack & Adam's Bicycles!
