6 reviews for Jacaranda the
What a great bar! Why didn't I discover this place when I lived here in 2001? Well, now I know about it, and thanks to our client list it looks like we'll be back in the area soon.
The best part of this bar was the anything-goes dance floor with really great live music, at least on Thursday nights when we were there. The female singer was really talented, and me and my co-workers were dancing for a long, long time, fueled by the strong drinks that kept coming and coming. Yay for salsa dancing in Southwest Florida!
Interesting that of the 4 previous reviews three gave the Jac high marks for being a happening bar! The other ho-hum review actually dined there. Sadly, we were in the latter category. We went there for dinner.
For starters, the physical plant, outside and in, the location and overall ambiance are all excellent. There is a nice comfortable "feel" about the interior. In addition, the waitstaff was very well informed and attentive.
The food? Well, the presentation was exquisite. The meals were beautiful to look at. However, we took the next step and actually ate the meals! And they just weren't that good. In the Linguine DiMare, the linguine was not al dente. The tripletail fish was bland although they claimed it was seasoned and the basmati rice had no flavor. The pre-meal salads and bread were fine.
Sorry, Jacaranda, but although you are a fun place to go and perhaps drink in the bar, the food is just not up to par. If we return it will be for a drink or after hearing that the kitchen staff has been updated...
This was our first trip to Sanibel and we were extremely happy with our mini vacay. Our friend suggested Jacaranda to us and we were very happy with the restaurant. The service was great! Our waitress was so friendly and had a ton of suggestions off of the menu. The ambiance and atmosphere couldn't be beat!
We got the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer which was good -- but then again how can you go wrong with shrimp cocktail? My fiancee got the Linguine DiMare and I got a special that night (it was steak medallions with a sauce drizzled). The pasta was Delicious and they gave you a nice amount. The special was great and the drizzled sauce was tasty. I can go on and on about our service, our waitress was just phenomenal! We went on a Thursday night and there was the live bad and the female Singer was really talented. The bar seemed really crowded and it appeared that everyone was having a great time. Maybe next time we'll stay for drinks after we eat. Not sure about the quality of the cocktails as we had a bottle of wine. I guess I'll let you know next time we go back.
When we go back to Sanibel we will definitely be going back.
Only place open past prime time TV. Really. IF you want to drink, this is THE place to go, the ONLY place to go on Sanibel Island. When we were there, they were opened until midnight.
It's the local bar too. Easy to know everyone there. Two areas, an inside bar (small and dark) and an outside seating area which is semi enclosed and serves as the smoking area.
If you want nightlife, goto Captiva.
Visiting Fort Myers to see relatives, they decided we should have dinner at Jacaranda. This is a nice restaurant. Good seafood. The drinks are a little stingy. And make sure you avoid the annoying (as in sickeningly saccharin sweet) Russian (Georgian) waitron. Other than laughing at her schtick and the small cocktails, we really enjoyed the food.
I was talking with my fiancee a couple weeks ago about the different bars and restaurants we had been in 2007. We both agreed that if we could create a "Bar of the Year 2007" award, it would go to the Jacaranda.
We went to Sanibel earlier this year and made our way over to the Jacaranda on our second or third day there. By the end of the week we went there at least 4 more times, almost all during their AMAZING happy hour. Two for one drink specials and half priced appetizers made for a great start to every night.
The bar area is kinda small and it feels like something you'd find in your grandparents basement, but it made up for it with the happy hour.
Appetizers included king crab legs, a pound of mussles, peel and eat shrimp, ahi tuna, buffalo wings, calamari, quesadillas, and more. All of them were about 5-6 bucks or less. Mixed drinks were bottom shelf and beer was draft Yuengling, both of which were like 2 bucks.
I've never had so much booze and seafood before 7pm in my life. My only wish is that when we make it down there next year they had the same incredible food and drinks.
If you're down here for Sox spring training, definitely add this to your places to visit.
