**A guys perspective**
As the first guy to review this salon I think I can offer a more unbiased, or at least un-catty perspective. So here goes: its clean, modern, things are shiny, the magazine stack has pictures of attractive women wearing tight athletic gear, they will serve you alcohol (or water/coffee/soda too), they use good products, and take their time.
My hair is short, Ive been in & out of another barber in 15 minutes. My barber (ok, ok "stylist") Annamarie took about 45 minutes on me. The cut includes shampoo & conditioner, scalp massage, then a re-rinse after all the cutting. She used a thinning razor on my thick hair and then styled it.
If you want a barber shop to hang out & BS about sports or whatever with the guys, this aint the place for you. You'll probably be the only guy in there. But I got a good haircut and its nice to be pampered a little (that doesnt sound too gay, does it?) and will likely be back.
Pricing: For $25, I got much more here and a better cut than my last $17 supercut. Plus if you figure $5 for the glass of wine (or 2?), this place is a steal.
On a side note, I dont understand how at time of this review, Yelp has hidden a whopping 71 positive reviews (many seem to be written on the salons behalf, but quite a few do seem legit). And yet the rating is based on only 11 mostly bad reviews. Just seems odd. -

sigh...
Another salon that asked me to write a review...you know how I feel about that from my Empire review. I've been wringing my hands as to whether or not I should write a review...but Jabez asked for it and here it goes!
Inside the salon is pretty. And this place is located locally so if I needed a haircut first thing, I can be there at 9am when they open, BUT ONLY IF the stylist is willing to be there that early. I've had my times changed to later on their behalf. Thanks!
Reviews are not supposed to be biased, which most of these Jabez reviews are because they are asked to write one and get a discount for their "honest" review. I hate to be the odd one out and I may be flogged for it later, but no place should be asking customers to review in exchange of. I truly believe in if you do your job right, it'll be rewarded. If you give great customer service and make people feel welcome, they will be back. Even if a person gets a bad haircut, they will feel more inclined to go back and speak up for a better haircut next time. But this place did not give me that. I've been here twice, and both times, was not super happy about my haircut.
I went there the first time asking for an emo type hairstyle but more gradually layered. She asked me if I do my hair every day. I do but I don't have 3 hours to spare every morning to do my hair, so she suggested that she go with a lesser evasive cut and she'll use the razor. I've always gotten scissor cuts and never had a razor cut before so I agreed. The haircut turned out ok, but like I said, not the hairstyle I really wanted so I wasn't super happy.
A few months down the line, I thought I'd give them another shot due to a special they were running. Without any talk, she used the razor again on my hair, which was surprising since she said I shouldn't do a emo cut. And i got an emo-ish cut but it dried my out.
I contemplated going back there the next day, the day after and the next day after that, but I talked myself out of it because...was it really worth all the hassle? The awkwardness and the possibility of still not getting the right style? Not for me.
The stylist, Ms. T, is Asian, so I thought she'd know how to work Asian hair, but both times, she cut my hair as if it were Caucasian hair and the hairstyle just made me look like a mushroom head, which is something I said I surely did not want.
I've seen Caucasian ladies walking out of the salon looking pretty, but never seen a single Asian person there. I can see why now--they're not experienced in Asian hair. I'll have to keep looking for a stylist that understands that not one type of cut/style fits all. Good thing I'm moving--I can find different selection of salons to try out. -

I go to Jabez as my regular salon, and have been consistently pleased. I'm a little more emo swoosh, and less soccer mom, so it's hard to find a salon in suburban Yorba Linda that accommodates me well, but Jabez does the trick. My stylist, Melissa, is adorable and always a treat to visit with, plus she's pretty great with long hair. The salon is beautiful, and - even though I'm a starving student and can't afford them - they do offer a great range of hair products.
For those of you who have had a bad experience, sometimes you just get a bad hair cut and it sucks. But it happens. While they're cutting keep your eyes on the mirror; this is not the time to zone out and read a magazine. If something doesn't look right, say so. They're not trying to make you look like a monster, so make sure to tell them clearly if anything looks like it's off. As long as you're watching there should never be an opportunity for 3.5 inches to get taken off if all you wanted was half an inch (as I read in another review). -

I originally went to Jabez just to buy Bumble and Bumble products. I was greeted by a stylist, Melissa, who was able to answer all of my questions about Bumble and Bumble - she really knew what she was talking about and I could tell she used and loved the products too!
I felt so comfortable with Melissa that I decided to give it a whirl and have her cut my hair. My hair motto is the bigger, the bouncy, the more volume the better! Melissa knew exactly what I was going for when I described my personal style and when I told her I didn't want a bang that just "hung there" or was a "chunk" and not only did she know what I was talking about. She cut my bangs PERFECTLY! (for all of the ladies with the side swept bang, you know how difficult it can be to get the perfect sweep!)The layers in my hair are gorgeous and style beautifully, too! She also gave me some great styling tips that I could really work into my hair routine and believe me, these tips were soooo good I will be incorporating them in my routine from here on out!
Over all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Each of the ladies that I encountered were sweet and attentive, even though they were not my stylist. Jabez goes above and beyond to ensure their clients are happy and it absolutely shows on each of the girls faces that they love what they do and are happy to be there.
So if you are in the need for a new stylist, definitely check out Jabez! I'm hooked! :O) -

I had several treatments yesterday a haircut, a Brazilian Blow out, a facial, and an eyebrow waxing.
When my husband came home from work, the very first words out of his mouth were, "Oh my god your hair looks awesome!" I am married to a manly man's man, I could color my golden tresses purple and he probably wouldn't notice, he didn't know I was getting my hair cut yesterday so this gushing happiness just shows what a fabulous job everyone at Jabez did, with my hair. He must have commented how beautiful my hair looked at least a dozen times. He could not keep his hands or eyes off of it ... and then dinner happened. He decided that I looked so great that he took me out to dinner. Romantically he brushed a lock from my eyes and then looked at me in horror. HORROR. "when did that happen???" Huh what? Oh no, my romantic moment gone. He brushed my eyebrows and said, "what happened? Lawnmower? Were you drunk when you did that to your brows?" Err yeah, No.
If I could split my review I would, but I am averaging up because the haircut was literally THAT awesome. My hair is amazing. My husband noticed, strangers came up to me and commented and asked about where I went, I felt great as long as I didn't look everyone in the eyes. On the haircut, everyone at the salon was delightful, two separate women worked on my hair and they did a beyond fabulous job. From being sweet to being awesome with the work, I was more than impressed.
The eyebrows and facial were done by another woman. The facial was fine, I mean you KNOW you are going to look icky after a facial so you soldier on and not worry about it. It was lovely.
My issue, and its a big one, is my eyebrows. I even checked them before I left, I commented on how off they were and was told that a pencil could fix it. One brow is 2cm longer than the other!!! Worse they are both completely different shapes now, they were all but identical shape and length when I walked in. If the tech had even commented that there was an issue, and pro actively tried to help fix it, I would have been fine. Instead I looked at my brows in horror, commented and was chided for having balding brows and how it could be fixed with a pencil. No pencil work is going to fix this, nor should I need to since they were ok when I went in. It really is a disaster. I went to a salon so that I didn't have an eyebrow mess on my hands and now I have one that is bigger than the mess I would have created on my own.
If I could give 5 stars on the hair and 1 star on the waxing, I would. So I look awesome, as long as I don't make eye contact with anyone even my husband. -

I really hope that one day yelp will come out with minus ratings because this salon definitely deserved it. I have only been to Jabez once and for a reason! I know that not everyone in the salon is as bad as my stylist, but, really, one stylist that I experienced was enough to give your salon a bad name. I am not trying to come off as harsh, which I probably am, but my experience left such a sour taste in my mouth it ruined my out of state trip that I had set up for the same day I had my hair done at Jabez.
I left a review on city search
http://orangecounty.ci...
in which they had responded back saying my "review was very inconsistent."
What was inconsistent? Am I on trial? lol! Was I suppose to present tape recordings of my hair session with your stylist? It was my opinion of your services and theres nothing inconsistent with that. I am not going to vouche for a salon that did a poor job. I was an unhappy customer, live with it, don't be on the defense. I mean if you can't take the criticism, why have your clients "review" your salon for a discounted price?
At this point, if I were to ask "questions or issues" to my stylist that were my concern, would you really think I would want to come back and have you fix it? Is it possible to fix a hairstyle that was cut 3.5 inches when I only wanted my split ends trimmed and weight removed? If I wanted a hairstyle that screamed GROSS, I would have not paid $51+tip at your salon to have it done. How is it possible to come in to your salon with even hair and come out with the back side 2 inches LONGER than the FRONT? The front side of my hair was up to my ear lobe! It looked like a mullet gone wrong! What would you do then to fix my lopsided haircut at that point? Cut it shorter? Would I "bring it to the stylists or salon directors attention" like you stated on your comment back to me? I really would have, but at that point the only thing that could have really fixed my hair was letting it grow out for another 6 months to a year, cutting, growing, cutting, which I did 4 consecutive times to have it looked even and long again.
If you want the stylists that just got out of beauty school this is the place to go. Other than that my always go to salon has been Pon international. Stay away from this business! -

Update: After leaving my initial review, I got a very nice email from the salon. They thanked me for my review and gave me a $10 credit for any future purchases. Unfortunately I won't be going back.
I had tried to make an appointment for my facial several times but scheduling never worked out since I work 5 days a week and was out of town for a while. I called again today to try to schedule a facial and again, scheduling didn't work out. The only day the facial woman was there past 5 is Thursday, one day after the groupon expires. I asked if they could extend it by one day since no other time worked and she told me that a lot of people were trying to get appointments in before the deadline and that it was my fault for not making an appointment earlier - which I DID try to do. I was very disappointed since they seem to pride themselves on offering excellent customer care. I bought spa treatments from other establishments through groupon and when they were overbooked they extended the expiration date, no questions asked. One place not only accommodated our scheduling needs (there was a group of us) but upgraded our package at no extra charge! THAT is great customer service. Telling the customer it's her fault is NOT, and INCREDIBLY rude. I make small concessions all the time at work and it is worth the pittance it would have cost because I know that the customer is happy and will come back and in the long run it is worth the cost. I hope the pennies you saved was worth it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went yesterday for a haircut, and specifically asked for a stylist that cut curly hair. I made the receptionist very aware of needing a curly cutter and, she assurred me that wasnt a problem Unfortunately, the stylist I was given had no experience with curly hair and was pretty overwhelmed to go near my hair. ( I appreciate that she copped to it before just going for it). She had the trainer come over. Who thinned my hair out ( not sure if this was good or bad yet) And, they used my hair to train her how to work with curly hair. Both tried selling me a boatload of products. I am happy using what I already use which is one product, and not Bumble and Bumble. I had to assist the stylist with how to blowdry curly hair with a diffuser. She wanted to stick me under a dryer and had put so much product in it that it actually felt heavy and greasy. Bottom line, I paid $75 to teach a stylist how to do curly hair. My cut is shorter on the back and longer on the sides - which is weird. Not happy. Curly hair people beware this salon.

Went in last week for an advanced hair cutting class that is supervised by their Bumble & Bumble network educator. Summer Williams was my stylist. I came in for a huge hair makeover, chopping off my waist length hair to an a-line graduated bob above my shoulders and also had dimensional haircolor/highlights put in. Summer was great. They really try to make sure you're comfortable in the salon and discuss what is going to work best with your features. Although she is a fairly new stylist, Summer was very skilled and proficient - I couldn't have been happier with the results. I have extremely fine, thin hair and she gave me a fantastic haircut with lots of movement and body. The color was also well-done and really added great dimension to my hair.
Don't hesitate to go in and check out this salon! Please be sure to tell them DARLENE WHITTINGTON referred you!

Where do i begin !? Well I thought i'd give this salon a shot after all 50% off first time clients , so why not right ? So i just happened to need a color touch up , and got set up with Kay , who was asian( wondering if thats the asian lady the other reviewer was talking about ) . It looked perfect when I stepped out of the salon , and I thought what a great deal for 45- + generous tip .. A week and a half later my roots are appearing about 3/4 in. I couldnt believe it ! No way my hair grows that fast ! So i marched to the "salon director " and she agreed Kay screwed up. She basically half-assed my touch up by using a semi permament that washes out in a week or two ! Wtf ?! Why the hell would she do that ? I've had this dark color for a long time and No stylist has ever done or thought of doing that! So the director offers to fix it for free. But , says she'd have to charge me to blow dry it ! Wtf salon director are you out of your mind?! Im not paying shit. Inconvenienced, out of my way hell no. Finally she waived the blow dryer fee as a " courtesy" . They cant blow dry right either my hair looked like crap so i redid it. Bad jabez salon bad! Steer clear people ! Oh and way way overpriced !

I have been to this salon several times and I have to agree with the other reviewer who said they don't know how to deal with curly hair. I asked for my hair to be left curly and they blew it dry without a diffuser which leaves it frizzy. I found them to be a good salon, albeit overpriced, however on my last visit to my regular stylist to touch up my color I was charged for the "master stylist" rate when she did not mix or apply my color, nor wash it out. She did dry my hair and then I was charged the higher price when in fact a lower level (i.e. lower priced) stylist did all the work. I left feeling cheated and have since frequented three different stylists at The Vanity Room (all were great, the rates were less and the service was better)
