One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I won't bother going to Dallas (or Fort Worth for that matter) for great steaks. My dad and I went for his birthday and really enjoyed ourselves. We had the bacon-wrapped BBQd lobster (note: it's more like prawn-sized) and it was great! We both had top-notch steaks, great wine selection and casual (but professional) service, all in an adult atmosphere. Can't ask for more.
I headed here right after I landed at DFW, and as commented previously, the location is a bit out of the way, right next to a highway. There is no way I would have found it without Yelp's help and even with directions, it wasn't easy to get to, especially for an out-of-towner.
I ordered the bone-in rib-eye with a side of steamed broccoli and the quality of the meat was fantastic and cooked just right. The broccoli, with garlic and a little bit of cheese on top, was nothing to write home about. I agree with Diane T.'s husband on that the seasoning was too salty. Something to note, if you're watching your salt intake or just don't like salty foods.
The server was very attentive, and the atmosphere was dark and quiet.
Having lived in downtown Dallas, I can't help but compare to the other Steak palaces in town. This one is weak on both the food and atmosphere. My steak was ordinary at best. Must we live in mediocrity? I think not!
I could drive less than 10 minutes in any direction and do better so I shall...sorry JR. I think you are past your prime.
I had dinner with a friend and was not impressed. Perhaps if other places were closed or unavailable.
I've been here 3 times. Nice bar and atmosphere. However, I just don't care for the food. It is not anything exciting in my opinion. I've had steaks all 3 times and was not impressed. Kinda reminds me of Mortons - not as bad as Mortons on steak, but close.
I've eaten at this steakhouse many times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. The tempura calamari is divine. The bone in rib eye is hard to beat. Their sides are great. Why not spend $10 extra per person for an outstanding meal over going to a Salt Grass or Outback for an overpriced mediocre meal prepared by unskilled labor?
My wife and I have been going to JR's for quite a while and love their food! We had the salmon and black bean special it was outstanding the service is as always perfect
Honestly, don't really have any complaints about this restaurant. From the bread to desert the food was excellent. The appetizer sampler platter was extremely tasty and quite large. The steak was of very high quality and the wine list was long and distinguished.
The service was terrific as the waiters were very attentive and even paid attention to the little things like folding the napkin of a patron who went to the restroom. That said, the only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is that it was pretty dimly lit which meant that I was getting sleepy by the time the bill came and my food had settle in my stomach.
All in all, a great dining experience and definitely some place I'll look to visit again next time I'm out at DFW.
I was recommended to JR's by my boss who has a daughter that works there. Bias aside. The service was tremendous. Great wine but a tad pricey. I know restaurants mark up wine a lot, but $52 for a bottle I know I can buy for $12 at Walmart is little steep.
The restaurant is dimly lit which makes the mood a little....well-boring. The bread and especially the butter was exeptional. We got a bacon wrapped lobster appetizer which was flavorful, but a small portion.
My fiancees steak was a bit flavorless, however, my steak was absolutely wonderful. The mashed potatoes are heavenly.
Overall, I would definitely visit this restaurant again and would recommend it to my friends.
A bit out of the way on a busy highway. Sort of poor location choice for such a gem of a steakhouse. I had the ahi tuna which maybe the best ahi I've had simply because it was more than grilled simply. It had a five-chinese rub on it and was served with a lightly sweetened plum type sauce over micro greens. The unique Asian flair on the tuna really made the dish something extraordinary. My partner ordered the filet which came topped with a mild jalapeno hollandaise. The tenderness was out of the world and the hollandaise was just right. Hope they stick around for a long time. This was a most excellent dining experience.
Hands down the best steak in the area. Service is great. Free valet parking. This is the place to go for special occasions. Bring your wallet, but worth every penny. I only wish I could afford to go more often. Let them know ahead of time about birthdays, anniversaries, etc. and they will help make it an extra special night.
Hubby and I had dinner at JR's last night for the first time. I was surprised how nice it was and how good the food was. My only complaint is the same one that others mentioned. It's way too dark in there. It's so dark that the waitstaff carries penlight flashlights for you to use to read the menu. It's so dark that you can't really see the food you're eating and that's unfortunate because it's so good. We ordered the avocado and crab salad to share as a starter. It came with 3 very nice and nicely cooked large shrimp. I think the presentation of the dish may have been attractive, but who knows it was so dark in there. Anyway, enough about the lighting. We both ordered steaks. Hubby ordered the Bone-in Cowboy Rib-eye medium rare. I ordered the New York Strip rare. My steak was cooked maybe a tad more than rare, but nothing to complain about. Hubby's only complaint about his steak was that the sauce that was served on it was too salty. Otherwise, everything else was great. The asparagus and broccoli were still crisp and the mashed potatoes were tasty. They also have a nice selection of ports. We shared a glass of fairly expensive 55 year-old port to have with an after-dinner cheese plate. It was a splurge, but it was a nice ending to the dinner. One nice thing about this restaurant is that you can actually have a conversation with the people you're dining with AND hear them. JR's isn't exactly a hip place to dine since it's a bit on the sedate side, but it's a nice place to go for a special occasion or if you just want a nice, relaxing dining experience.
