Tried a couple J. Lohr wines at a yelp event and it was AMAZING. I had the Pinot Noir I believe 2006 and I can't get enough of it.
I will definitely be buy to pick up some wine here and look into being a member.

So, this is the first winery I visited when I moved to the South Bay from the North Bay. I was rather surprised to learn that there was a winery nestled away in an urban area. So, off I go.
What I really was impressed with were their use of screw caps since this was still a rather controversial thing in the industry. Of particular interest to me was their Cypress Wine Series especially the Sauvignon Blanc (SB). These wines all from the Central Coast exhibit a very nice character and won't break your bank.
Moving up the list the Riverstone Chardonnay, decent use of oak without be terribly over bearing. Now their Cabs left me juggling, will I buy Carol's Vineyard, the Estate or take the plunge on the Cuvee series. What is a girl to do???
For me as a student of wine, it was a tough call especially since I love the wines from the Bordeaux region. Can we say anyone who can compare to a Paulliac, St. Estephe, or St Emilion get's my vote.
So are these wines worth experiencing, you betcha and they're local so do go check them out.
The staff here are nice and pleasant

My parents have been members here for forever. J. Lohr whines have been a mainstay at our table and there always seems to be a bottle worth opening.
For my wedding, we shopped around a bit, but the quality of the wine and the price was just too good compared to the competition.
My mom and I went down to their Lenzen location for a tasting around lunch time and sampled just about everything. We ended up with a pair of 2006 wines, the names escape me as I'm not a wine person, but my mom thought they were excellent for the price and perfect for a wedding.
The staff was great and did their best along with Mum to enlighten me on wines, and I learned it is poor form to shotgun wine from the bottle, especially at a tasting. Those little pour spouts are not for the perfect angle down your throat.
12 cases later, everything was great and a good time was had by all that came crushed a cup of wine and was merry.

This is my favorite tasting room , (at least for now.)
It's right by my dentist, and last time I wanted to go, my fiance nixed it.
I had to have two cavities filled, and he said if we went I'd drool wine down one side of my face. I begged to differ, but he was driving.
But, this time, no cavities, so we went! Yay!
They give you 6 complimentary tastings, but the guy we dealt with (Louie) was very generous!
When he found out we were getting married, he even opened a wine that is only supposed to be offered for weekend tastings!
We actually joined their wine club, which is the least expensive I've seen. In fact, all their wines are incredibly reasonable.
It was a great way to end the afternoon.
I highly recommend checking this place out, you won't be sorry!

What!?? A tasting room in downtown SJ?
As a blossoming wino this was a blessing from God. It is a very quaint tasting room with not much to see be some trinkets here and there.
The wines were decent but the Seven Oaks Cab was the winner. I actually picked up a bottle of this. The people there were very helpful and not snooty like some other tasting rooms ive been to. They provide alot of information for new comers to wine.
Nothing to do on a sat afternoon, drop on by, its free!
I am going to give this place 4 stars because first off my friend is a
member which entitles you what yeah you got it member prices......
I got some good bottles at great prices, I will be coming back in the future
for sure

I like this place, it's nice that you can taste wine here without driving all the way to Napa, it's great that it's so close to Downtown, now you can get drunk off wine during your lunch break and go back to work ;-) . Jlohr's wine are relatively inexpensive and pretty good for what you're getting.
The wines they let you sample are very good. I'm not a Riesling fan, but the Riesling here is pretty good.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to learn drinking wine. Now that I progressed up the wine's are still good but not to the level I like them anymore.

So I went here on Saturday afternoon after taking my fiance to the shooting range...compromise....and I was pleasantly surprised by the winery.
The staff was very friendly and even let us try a couple of wines that weren't on the list. The tastings are free and there are quite a few wines to sample, both white and red. There is also a section of featured wines for the week, which cost $5 for three or $2 for one. The tasting room was a bit on the small side, compared to those of the wineries in Napa or Sonoma, but it wasn't overcrowded. This is a great place to try wine before you buy it and most of the wines are priced just right.
Thank god for the super nice couple (who are members of the wine club) that showed us several great wines that weren't on the list. I fell in love with the 2005 Seven Oaks Cab, the 2006 just wasn't nearly as good!
Actually 4 1/2 only because it got really crowded and the bartender forgot about the people who came in before a bigger group of six arrived.
Quality wines and always can find a good gadget / gift for someone on my long list. While there is a bit of snobbery by some staff and customers I don't go there for a long winded conversation but to find a great chardonnay or even a really good fantastic meaty and heavy cab...oooohhh don't get me started
Having a wine tasting room near downtown San Jose is definitely a plus.
