I can't lay off of this stuff!  The best sushi rolls around, great prices, fast delivery, and a nice quiet atmosphere at the restaurant itself.  The pot stickers, the dim sum, and especially the spicy crunchy tuna roll and the spicy salmon crunchy roll are fantastic.

Huzzah for yelp.

Earlier this week I developed an intense desire for sushi that had to be addressed.  But, I had no idea where I could find a good sushi place in Astoria.  I asked my friend, and was all set to order from her suggested place, until I came on here and saw it had bad reviews (to be fair to her, she hadn't been there, just walked by it).  No thanks, I'll try this JJs place that everyone on yelp seems to like.  So thank you yelpers for saving me from a below average sushi experience.

The food was great and delivery was really quick.  The spicy tuna roll tasted more smoky than spicy, which was different, but it was good.  I wouldn't really recommend the Chef's Special roll, it wasn't bad, but not worth the $15.  I haven't been to the restaurant so I can't speak about service or cleanliness or whatever, but if the food quality is any indication, I"m sure it's all good.

I will be ordering from here again, and again, and again.

HOLY CRAP!!! I was sitting eating my food with my friend.... and then we saw a freakin' large MOUSE run across the place. It was not that busy at the time and we did not  feel like making a super scene. We told the waitress quietly and she just walked away without a response. I then decided that I wanted the check and we were ignored, I asked three times and she kept ignoring us. So I walked up to another waitress and asked her for it, she asks our waitress and she comes by 10mins later and gives us the check.

The check was $38 and I left a $5 tip... I was being nice. A manager comes up to me and begins to YELL, "It's mandatory that you leave 18% tip!! You were being very rude" I whispered the situation with the mouse and being ignored and she said that I was lying. I also told her that it's just me and my friend and that 18% is not mandatory, the waitress is lucky to be getting anything. Rather than making a scene, I gave an extra $2 and PROMISED her that I was going to call the dept of health and file a complaint. Apparently, they go by a different legal name (Grand Tofu) and they have MANY violations including evidence of live mice and roaches.

I know this place has some good reviews on here, however this place is FILTHY  and the manager is simply a fuckin' cunt, I would not even let my dog eat there.

By the way, here are their violations - feel free to explore their entire history. This place is DISGUSTING.

This sushi is so fresh youd think it swam right up from the ocean onto your plate. The flavor combinations are great. Even if your not a raw fish fan, they have amazing cooked items like there pot stickers or their dumplings. There is something for everyone and everything is delicious

JJ's is the bomb. I'm never disappointed after 8 years of delivery. Currently I'm into the Chef's Sashimi - very tasty! I live in the 30th Ave area and this is definitely the best Japanese around.

I live around the corner from JJ's, but for some reason I've never gone.  I took a date there on a Saturday night.  The space is small and pretty quiet, but it was busy and there was a lot of energy in the room.  We split a bottle of sake, which was reasonably priced, and really smooth.  I ate pretty light - I had the potstickers and vegetable roll.  The potstickers definitely lived up to the hype.  And the veggie roll was pretty good too.  It had avocado, sweet potato tempura, and cucumber in it (I believe).  Everything was pretty reasonably priced, as well.  I'm sure I'll be back soon.

Been many times, very good sushi.  Much better than average.  Expensive but not more than sushi of this caliber usually costs.  The fish is always fresh, the presentation is lovely.  I like the tuna and apple starter, the miso is fantastic, so is the green tea, the spicy tuna has sesame oil in it which i think is a fantastic touch, thu not ever one i know likes it.  The hand rolls are on the small side.  The service is not so good and its small, so i like to take out, but eating there can be a nice experience.  Great lunch specials.  Highly recommended.

JJs is everything I could ever dream of in My Perfect Local Sushi Restaurant - fresh, delicious sushi, interestingly prepared appetizers, loads of great cooked food, delicious desserts, good service, and reasonable Queens prices.  It is difficult for me to find flaws in this place, particularly because they deliver in case their cozy and comfortable restaurant is a bit too crowded.  Additionally, everything is complimented by their yummy house sake.  I'd say the best sushi in Astoria, easily.

i live down the street from jj's, but it was one of my first finds since moving to astoria.  it is definitely the best sushi place in astoria that i've been to.  it tends to get pretty crowded nowadays - was not this way 4 years ago when i first moved here, but at least i know it is prospering and won't close down anytime soon.

this place has some really excellent and innovative sushi rolls.  i've tried nearly everything on the menu between going and ordering, but stick to some of the same.  love the spicy california roll.

the people there seem nice enough, although i think they're chinese, not japanese - overheard them speaking in mandarin the other day.

it's a pretty good place for dates, or a nice dinner out with a small group of friends.

Finally I've found some decent sushi in Astoria! I've been meaning to try this place for a while, but it seems like I always got the urge on a Monday (they're closed Mondays). So, I put it in my calendar, and ordered in on a Tuesday. Well worth it.

Thanks to the suggestions from other Yelpers, I tried the edamame pot stickers and blackened tuna roll - plus a spicy tuna hand roll. I didn't love the pot stickers as much as everyone else, but will try them again when I visit the restaurant (maybe delivery's not kind?).

I thought the sushi was delicious, although I didn't try any straight sushi/sashimi pieces (this is really the test for me).

Delivery was fast and courteous. They actually quoted me the total on the phone, grabbed my number from caller id, and got it here in about 15 minutes. These are all unheard of in my Astoria delivery experience. And the price was fair.

All in all, a good experience. I look forward to eating at the restaurant itself very soon!

I went to JJ's for a friend's birthday party and I fell in love instantly.  I had the roll wrapped in cucumber and it was delicious.  A friend had the tuna sashimi with apples, and another friend had the blackened tuna, and I was amazed.  The fish tasted SO FRIGGING GOOD!  The edamame dumplings were good, but a bit dough-y, and the house sake was great.  The next day, we all apparently woke up (some hungover, some okay) and kept declaring our love for JJ's (yes, we discussed this in the following days).  The same weekend I was at Hell Gate Social with a friend, clearly drunk out of my mind, and rather than craving a bacon egg & cheese bagel, I was set on JJ's.  I'm counting the days until I return.

I don't like sushi.  That statement may make half of NYC's population drop their chopsticks in horror, but it is the truth.  My fiance, however, is part Italian, and part shark.  The mere hint of sushi sends her into a Discovery channel like rampage upon all the creatures of the sea.

This is why I love JJ's.  The sushi here is of good quality(apparently) and satiates event the most ravenous sushi lover.  But while most sushi spots only offer some vile teriaki drizzled sustenance for us non pescavores JJ's has a fine selection of fusion and traditional treats to snack on.  The standout of the bunch is the edamame dumplings served with some wasabe oil, very inventive and very good.

So, rejoice! all of you who don't appreciate the uncooked fruit of the sea, but have friends/loved one's that do.  JJ's can make for a good night for all at a reasonable price.

Lets face it - sushi and fusion food are the mainstays of any young new yorker's life.  If you've got any sense of fashion or trend, then you're gonna enjoy Asian Fusion.  And if you don't, you're gonna fake that you do.  Being Anti-Asian fusion isn't cool anymore - it just makes you look like you're from Des Mois.  So embrace it, enjoy it, and learn what good fusion tastes like.

JJ's is good fusion.  It supposedly has the best pot stickers in New York but I've only eaten their pot-stickers so I have nothing to compare them to.  It was good however.  They have the standard brand of sushi, a sushi bar, the traditional thai cusine.  It's done well, executed well, and the service is average which is good enough for me.  They have good plum wine as well.

If you're in astoria, and looking to kick it in a relaxing atomsphere with some sushi, come here. You won't be disapointed.  And if you are, well, tough.  You have to live a little.

Every time friends visit Astoria, naturally I take them out for Greek food. No, that's a fib. Honestly, I take them to JJ's, my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC. Over the years, I've introduced over a dozen friends to JJ's and they all love it.

First and foremost, go for JJ's speciality rolls, which are truly works of culinary art. And if you have a hankering for a roll that's not on the menu, just ask, and they'll  make it.

If you're in the mood to splurge, try JJ's sushi/sashimi for two. Also, from the cooked menu, the fried talapia or blackened tuna are scrumptious.

The only down side? Unfortunately, the two incredibly friendly Indonesian sisters who used to waitress at JJ's no longer work there. Where did they go? Alas, we'll never know...

I was walking home one night, passed this place, read the New York review of their edamame dumplings in the window and decided to try them for myself.  I was glad I did, they were as good as the reviewer promised and I intend to return again and again to test their longevity.
Sushi roll I ordered was also good, though warm and I can't say I remember the service...for whatever that's worth.

They get four stars for their Lobster Roll.....special as ever. It was massive with lobster and tuna and green stuff all over with red specks of who knows what on top.....one of the best rolls ever. But watch out....this one is rich and filling.

Only bad review is from a guy that hates everything hmm...

Tried it for the 1st time last night and it was great... Sure it was small, crowded, and cramped, but that didn't take away from the quality of food.  It was great!  The manager, and or waiter were extremely friendly, and not in a creepy way, but a sincere way.  The specialty rolls were definitely to die for!
Here's a break down of what we go... and how it was:
-Edamame pot stickers; never had em before and they were pretty good... best in town I hear (lol)
- Cali roll , not to bad...
- Spicy tuna; pretty spicy than most places, and much darker... It was excellent!
- The phoenix roll- aka dragon roll everywhere else, excellent, bold flavors, tasty eel, and nice study roll (bad experiences elsewhere)
-Tropical roll #2 - I love tempura shrimp, so we had to get this... the mango flavor made the dish!!!! I wanted the last piece but "someone" snatched it up before me.
-finally, we had a bottle of sake... It was called snow beauty and recommended by the waiter... And it was pretty good.
Looked at the website?  Their wall art is part of the website!
Price was really low!  We paid about 26 bucks, that was minus my restaurant.com coupon (which the stop using at teh end of nov.) i was shocked... a night out for great sushi usually runs us 80-60 bucks!

Some of the worst service I have ever had.  Several people near me ordered before I even got a menu, then the waitress seemed annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted, even though I hadn't even gotten a menu.  I got no silverware and was given the bum's rush.  Even though it's literally a block from my house I don't think I'll ever go back.  The sushi was kind of flavorless on top of it, and on the small side.

Really nice atmosphere and great service. I ordered one of their 24 pc. sushi specials: spicy salmon, boston roll, and yellowtail roll for $13. It was ok. I personally like my sushi served cold and this was kind of lukewarm, but I think because it was the 'special'. It came with a salad with really good ginger dressing.

I will go back to try their rainbow roll and blackened tuna roll. The people beside us had ordered one of those and it looked amazing.

4 stars = give it another chance!

I'm a big fan of the rainbow roll, so I've tried them at about every Japanese restaurant I've been to (except in Japan, ironically), so it's sort of become my litmus test for Japanese restaurants..

It was good here, but not great. As another reviewer said, the fish was a little warm, and I too like it colder. (Although for what it's worth, the sushi I ate in Japan wasn't cold either.)

I also had this appetizer with tuna sashimi and apple slices that was tasty. The edamame was good too. The place has a cozy, den-like atmosphere and the service was really friendly. I'll definitely go again (especially since it's right around the corner.. yeah!)

Great sushi for great prices? Look no further. I love going to JJ's for a big bowl of edamame and a couple of sushi rolls without emptying my pockets. The block it's on isn't a very busy area so it doesn't get too crowded, and I've always found the service to be terrific.

The rolls are massive --  And the sushi lunch special is a great deal too.
Here's the review of it I wrote on my blog. I'm not sure it's a fair review because I don't think we got the correct rolls, something I only discovered once I went home and compared what we had eaten with the description of what we had ordered.
It is a pretty good place and great to have in the neighborhood, despite this.

I went there late saturday nite and like the other review said it wasnt too loud or crowded. Granted it was a little out of the way but on a nicer day the walk wouldnt be as bad.  The roll i had was the Tropical Roll 2 with mango shrimp tempura and some coconut almond sauce all wrapped in bean curd skin. It was pretty good. everything else was so so though. Im kind of a food snob when it comes to Japanese food though.  The desserts were good in that they werent too sweet but the steamed japanese cheesecake is the one that i often buy at the JAS or Sunrise mart in the village aka not fresh made and straight out of a package.  The waitresses though are ultra nice and and atmosphere pretty good as well.  The king crab dumplings, a special, was however filled with imitation crab sticks.. hmm... still tasted decent though. Like i said im a food snob.. sorry
