If you're hungry... and you're in Nephi... you're in trouble! There are not many choices in this burg!
I agree with the other Yelpers. This place is just not good... at all. We stopped in an overcast and drizzly day... and the waitress spilled a full glass of ice water on my 12-year-old daughter. NOT a good start. The food was not fresh. The food was not prepared well. The food was pre-fab, frozen, canned, etc. I've always been intrigued by their billboards and have always wanted to try it. I'm glad I did. Because now I know and now I never have to go back.
Do yourself a favor... wait until you get to Salt Lake... or St. George if you're headed south.

Don't be suckered by the billboards along I-15.

It was dirty.  When I headed to the restroom, I had to step over a mop that was stuck to a sticky spill that had long-since dried.  Yuck.

The service was not good.  I ordered two eggs, hashbrowns and toast.  Only one egg came.  It was covered in mysterious unctuous, yellow, fatty goo.  I had to ask for the other egg and was told it only came with one.  Thankfully, they'd forgotten to remove the menu, so I just pointed to the words.  They fetched me another.

The food was bad.  I had to choke down the slimy fatty egg.  The homefries were almost entirely underdone and saturated with the mystery goo, too.

It was cheap.  It cost 5 dollars.

Bottom line:  go to Denny's instead.

Hand battered chicken fried steak so good they list twice is cooked from a frozen premade steak......  it tasted like the old fried chicken sandwich patties from grade school..... if you HAVE to come here the trains are awesome, that is it, look at trains and leave.....when I questioned the chicken fried steak, they explained that EVERYWHERE in Utah, the steaks are battered and flash fried for 10 seconds and then frozen so that the batter sticks.  This was amusing as I had just had a proper chicken fried steak IN Utah for lunch.  The only thing worse than having a bad restaurant is trying to take the entire state down with you!

The trains kept my son entertained.  That's about the only good thing I can say about this place.

The food was just gross.  I expected greasy, but whoa.  Everything on the menu sounds good, but nothing actually is.  The service left something to be desired too - when asked what the pies of the day were, the waitress looked at us blankly and then told us where to find the sign that had the info written on it.  Um, lame.  We didn't actually order dessert, mostly because the entrees were so lacking.

The billboards are funny, the trains are child-mesmerizing, but other than that, this place is just sad.  Yuck.

If you are traveling South from Salt lake City you will notice billboards along the highway for this place.  I have been looking at them for years, but I have never eaten here. Now I know why!

So we finished up with some late meetings in American Fork and headed South to St. George, It was late and we were hungry and we decided to stop to eat.  It was a toss up between this place and the Flying J Truck Stop.  We didn't want Fast Food, so we decided to try J C Mickelson's.  BIG MISTAKE!  Don't try it!

I will start by saying the young server was wonderful, very helpful and very friendly.  When we walked in we were greeted with the smell of baby diapers, very dirty carpet and 6 local regulars drinking coffee at the counter.  I got nervous from all of the above, but was really nervous when one of the regulars went behind the counter to help himself to more coffee and another walked out from the kitchen. YIKES!

So we sat down.  Why?  I don't know!  hungry I guess.  The menu was your basic diner type food with mostly fried items.  They even have breaded veal.  I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife ordered the fish and chips.  Both our meals came with a choice of potato or salad and we both chose the salad.

Our salads arrived and looked good from afar but close inspection revealed slimy mixed greens that actually dissolved and turned in to mushy algae looking stuff.  It was inedible.  I ate the crackers and dipped them into the dressing that was nicely served on the side.

Then our meals arrived.  Overcooked crispy fish and greasy chicken fried steak with bland steamed canned carrots.  The saving graces were my baked potato and my wife tarter sauce.  Both were good.

So the best I can say, nice server, tasty tarter sauce and a good  baked potato.  After the meal, they offered the daily desert special.  FREE apple crisp. MMMMM  I love apple crisp!  Why did I think it would be good here??????  The crisp was soggy and the apple...  well....  there was no apple.  It was apple jelly with soggy crap on top!  YUCK!

We paid, we left, we will never be back!!!  Fight the urge!  Don't stop here!!!

The good: They have trains traveling around the restaurant.

The bad: The food and the service.

Don't get suckered in by the billboards along the I-15.

As being a native of Nephi, take my advice. If you are looking for standard, country-style type of food this place serves, you are better off going to Lisa's Country Kitchen, just up the road a bit from Mickelson's.

Classic case of burger restaurant trying to do fine dining, and failing. Burger and fries were fine, nothing special. Halibut and country parmesan were nasty. Halibut was cold and undercooked, sent back and returned obviously from a microwave.

    Also: No alcohol served here.

It has miniature trains running through the whole restaurant, which is kind of funny.  So IF you are into trains, or really bad halibut, this is the place to be!

This food is horrid!  Do not go here unless you just want to experience the worst dining in Utah.
