Awesome game store.
Yes, things are slightly higher than market price (which is why they lose one star), but it is so worth it. Today I walked in and the man behind the counter spend about 15 minutes with me looking at ps2 games, and accessories. I get this type of service every time I walk in.
They always give good service, and they have just about every title imaginable. If they don't have what your looking for, they can get it. Don't be intimidated to ask questions, the staff here always wants to help. I buy many games here, including japanese saturn titles, PSP titles, and PS2 titles. I cannot get enough of this store! -

i've been coming to this place for over ten years and is still the best place to go to get imported games and machines and repair them as well. I brought my ps3 here and they changed my plain casing to an all chrome system.

Brought my PS1 from them back in 2000, good that they're still here.
Good service and huge selection of games old or new. -

I'll be honest. I haven't played video games in a LONG TIME! Stepping into this place made me want to immediately buy everything in sight. Good thing I was with a friend that showed me all the new games. I saw something in the display case that caught my eye. It was a Nintendo DS that has been modified and is all clear. They have a lot of new and used games here. It's a pretty cool spot.
To the Clear Nintendo DS.... I will be back for you soon! -
Review from Benson Y.
Watching your father trying to buy a video game system when he hasn't touched anything approaching advanced technology in over ten years is painful. When my dad wanted to buy a Nintendo DS for my little sister, I decided to take him here since they'd speak Chinese and he'd be more comfortable than say, at Best Buy.
I have to say, the patience the sales person displayed was absolutely astounding. I mean, this guy must have explained the concept of a "power adapter" about five times, and each time it was with the same amount of calm and composure. This place deserves super kudos for that.
The prices here are fair, only a few dollars above what I have found online, and considering that it's well organized and you can get good good customer service.
J & L not only sells brand new stuff, but also used systems and games. They also have several package deals of used systems and controllers as well. The store is very organized, with games broken up into sections by system and everything is in glass cases and easily reviewed.
I've been considering getting a new system, and this is one place I think I may check out when the time comes. -

This game store has a really big collection and offers a lot. Some of the games are overpriced, but that's expected in NY. They charge a lot of accessories and other things above the usual price you can get them at probably Gamestop, but their prices on games are usually fair and accurate. They also sell a lot of imported Japanese games, if you're looking for those. The staff working here are extremely helpful and friendly, not to mention very patient. They are fun to talk to while making my purchases and seem to know not a lot about certain games, but to know enough. They get games early sometimes and will still sell them. I've managed to get Star Ocean: The Last Hope, UFC Undisputed 2009, and Ninja Blade at this store before the actual release dates. The store also sells a few other things, like figurines, gaming accessories, and plushies. They also do repairs on systems, as well as sell custom cases, like Nintendo DS Lite clear cases in different colors, as well as Wii cases, and are also willing to change them for you for a price. Overall, the store is pretty good and I come here often other than my local Gamestop or Best Buy, despite me living in Jersey City and having to commute over here. My only complaint and piece of advice to all of you is to make sure you use cash at this place. They accept cards, but if you pay with cash, they won't charge you tax and you can buy games for exactly $60, $50, etc., even systems and accessories. I bought my Xbox 360 Arcade over here for $200 flat using cash. If you pay with a card, you'll get hit with the nice NY tax and some card fees. Keep that in mind!

I sold 2 used games to them and quoted a very fair price.
The guy who ran the PS3 section was very friendly and loves to chat about gaming etc.
They also have a bizarre collection of the action figure dolls....

Well, I'm always going to hate this place because they sold me a PS3 one week before a $100 price drop. But anyways, this is the biggest game store in the area, the overall selection is very good, prices are fair, and they have some attractive packages on some of the older systems like Dreamcast and GameCube. Also a decent place to get import games if you're too lazy to import them yourself.

This place always makes me mad. The staff in there are rude and their prices are nothing great. Everytime I'm looking for some assistance, they seem to be off talking to someone else about their day or something. Maybe I just went at a bad time or something but I haven't gone back to J & L for over 2 years now. I always get my stuff from across the street in Elizabeth Center because their games are a few dollars cheaper with no tax if you pay in cash. Plus their service is much better than J&L.

We were able to buy a hard-to-find PS2 karaoke game at this New York shop. (Hard to find in typical chain video game stores, that is.) The salesperson was great and helped us search the store - which isn't huge by any means, but not cramped either). They have a variety of import games here (as mentioned) so you may find something of interest you didn't know you wanted. When we decided to buy, they had no problem taking a credit card to complete the purchase. Stop in if you're a videogame enthusiast!

I never really got how these guys stay in business now a days. I figure it must be the locals keeping it in business. It used to be across the street in the underground mall years ago, but they moved to their own storefront several years back.
They have used and imports and a lot of harder to find accessories. But the prices are way too high compared to Video Games New York. Service is nice enough and all. And it's much better organized and a lot cleaner than Video Games NY. But honestly, at the end of the day I'd rather save the $10 and get it at Video Games NY than here. -

This place is seriously over priced. They do have a good variety though.

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. In addition to having new and used US video games, they also sell new and used Japanese editions of games, as well as the systems to run them on.
While their selection isn't comprehensive, it is as large as I've ever seen, and if they don't have what you're looking for, the staff will be happy to do their best to track down and order any obscure title you can think of. -

The games and consoles are slightly overpriced.
I hardly ever see anyone purchasing games from this store.
If you're knowledgeable about video games and video game pricing, you may want to turn 180 degrees and walk away. I only visit for my amusement by checking the price tags of the games. -

i hate hate hate this place. all they want to do is rip you and rip you and when they're done, they'll rip you some more. i have no idea how they stay in business, it must be their high markup. i always went to penguin village. the owner was always eyeing my girl back then too so i spat on the place.

I hate this place! Most everything there is slightly over priced. Also recently, My wife really really wanted to play ddr on our ps3 so we bought the ps2 to ps3 controller adapter (since the ps3 obviously isnt compatible with ps2 controllers or accessories). The dude at the store was like "oh im not sure it works on ddr but you can try" even tho the package for the adapter said it DOES work. at the time I was thinking "maybe it really doesn't work and he knows it, but didn't wanna admit it cuz he just wanted to make the sell". So I asked him if it doesn't work can I at least return it and exchange it for something else. Of course he said NO refunds and NO exchanges. Seemed a bit fishy at the time but I wanted to make my wife happy and we decided to get it anyways. When we got home what do you know! it doesn't with the ddr pad! Great.I wont buy anything from J&L ever again. *sigh* we ended up buying a ps2 slim. Well, at least I can connect a ps2 controller to my pc via usb...
