Review Highlights
We haven't tried the BBQ - so my review is for breakfast only.
Do yourself a favor and order the migas tacos. They're good.
Like Ken's tacos good - the tacos are full and big, no woosie food here.
This place is killing independent George. It used to be a local fav until the New Managment or Owners decided to change it up.
A long time ago in a BBQ joint far far away.... BBQ Jedi Masters used to skillfully carve meat/handle 20 breakfast orders at once right in front of your eye's. (It was a work of art) But fast forward to the present... The layout is totally different. There's a ridiculus counter where someone just sits on their ass while they take your order, and instead of watching Jedi Magic... u go find a table so you can start counting sheep. The worst part is I think they slowly "replaced" a bunch of the original BBQ Jedi Masters to hire on Jar Jar Binks and a bunch of his cousins. (aka family)
As for the food... the brisket is still very good.. But the breakfast prices took a huge hike and they now offer overpriced pathetic bland burgers. Guess that order counter needs to pay for itself somehow.
A-FreakingMazing!!!!!!!!!!! Ok so not only is the food awsome but you will always leave stuffed and bring lots home.. The Peach Cobble has been voted #1 2 years in a row.. The service is great and it has a home counrty feel to it.. We love J&J .. Highly reccomended
I did not want to go here because the appearance outside made me think it would be gross, but IT'S NOT, IT'S REALLY NOT. It's fantastic bbq and better hamburgers than anywhere in Cedar Park we've tried (including Moonies), and the breakfasts...I haven't tried, but my husband (a man who remembers a good hangover cure from back in the day) says they're great. The bbq sauce is spot on and the ribs are great. Nice staff and the space outside on the screened patio is my favorite spot to eat with my family. Good stuff, happily recommended. I still wish it was in a nicer or more original place, but the food and service is worth it.
If you like cafeteria style BBQ this is the place. I personally like Smokey Mo's down the street.
So I finally had my twin food babies this weekend. I named the first one Oh My Effing God That's Tasty (aka Carne Guisada) and the second one was Sweet Jesus, Thank You For Your Bounty (aka Brisket, Egg and Cheese). They were healthy one pounders and I dressed them alike with fresh pico de gallo and salsa. It's true they don't travel well. Very messy! But they are the best taco babies I have ever had.
So if you are thinking about having a delicious little bundle of joy of your own, go up north and see JJ. I'm willing to share my baby daddy!
They have good BBQ and always seem to be crowded. On weekends, it can get really bad and they sometimes loose orders or forget about you.. You have to keep on them and stand there until you get your food.
They have a back porch seating outside.
This place is a sleeper. Everything I've had is good, inexpensive, and served quickly. The staff is always hustling like they're paid on commission. Sunday noon is usually chaotic, but the best time to people-watch. I don't think these folks would let you leave if you weren't happy with your food. Service is big, here.
They've tried to dress it up with some flags and attention-getters in front of the building, but it's not necessary. People have found out about this bbq joint that looks more like an electrical supply warehouse. Five stars and a happy belch!
Delicious, tender, moist, and flavorful meats, well prepared sides, and friendly staff earn this place five stars.
You order at a walk-up counter and they fix your plate while you wait. Pickles and onion can be added to the plate at a self-serve bar. There is a serve-yourself drink counter, which I like. The menu indicated that in the evenings they serve all-you-can eat BBQ specials, I'll have to be sure to come back for that.
We had pork ribs, brisket, and spicy sausage. All of the meats were excellent! The sides we very tasty too. My dining companion said that their burgers and catfish were also good when he tried them on previous visits.
I'll be back to sample the menu again and again. Well worth the drive to Cedar Park.
The BBQ is pretty good here. I'd have to say though out of the multiple times I've eaten there, skip the BBQ and go for the rest. They have excellent breakfast, burgers/chicken fried steak and mexican food. And yes, the building does look really strange. That's because it used to be a CHURCH!
I read all these reviews here and thought: "Looks like a good place to go for a burger".....as the review stars say: "Meh....I've experienced better"
We ordered the "Cheeseburger special" 1/3 lb burger with fries and a drink. for roughly $8.
It wasn't bad....but I've had burgers at Whataburger just as good for a lot less.
Good tasting BBQ and a nightly all you can eat buffet. Would be 5 stars if the service was better... They are a bit slow and not very friendly.
I go to breakfast there at least once a week. It's awesome. Their carne asada is some of the best I've ever had. I've not tried the cheddar pour yet but I WILL! The only drawback is that they don't have a bar. We'd go more for dinner if they did.
When in the south, do as the Southerners do. Right? That's why my family headed down to J&J BBQ no less than three times in a span of 5 days. It's really simple: walk in, decide which entree wets your appetite (the most), walk up & tell the cooks in the back, pay & go. Don't forget to order a milkshake- they're nothing spectacular (made with syrup, I think), but they are huge. It took three of us to finish one shake!
On that note, everything at J&J is huge. When you go to Texas, you go huge (and leave huge, if you eat like I did!). I had a huge baked potato. Dad had a huge order of some sort of meat. Grammy and Grandaddy shared a huge entree of fried catfish, shrimp & chips (do they call them chips in the South?).
If I was in Austin/Cedar city for another 5 days, I'd be sure to stop by at least a couple times. I really miss that fried okra! mmm and the mac n' cheese... don't get me started!
I've lived in Cedar Park now for 6 years. Driven by J&J's millions of times. I stopped in once several years ago for breakfast but it was packed so I walked out. But this weekend I had company and wanted to try something new, so we went to J&J's BBQ. YUM-O! Great choice.
We got there at 8 on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. They were out of a few sides but the sides we ordered were great. We did the two meat combo which we ordered with Sausage and Brisket. It was really good. The brisket was nice and juicy and not fatty at all. The bbq sauce was also really good. We also ordered half a chicken which wasn't as good. It was a little dry and not very tasty. Just as we finished up our food a man walked out of the kitchen and gave us free peach cobbler. And this is why I am giving J&J Five stars. It was the best peach cobbler I've ever had. This alone will bring me back to eat at J&J's. It was so good I forgot all about my dry chicken. Another plus was the staff was very friendly. I will be going back, heck this time I might even be willing to wait in line for breakfast.
Meh. It was good food, but I thought the meat was a bit fatty and things weren't as hot (temperature) as I would like. It's decent BBQ, but I think I'd rather have Rudy's
YEEEEHA! I love Texas. I love everything about it. I love how people put UT Longhorn thingies on their cars... I love cowboy hats. I love having horses on our block. I love the southern hospitality at every corner, especially that Hill Country Wave. Of course you don't know them, just wave back because IT FEELS good!
Most of all, I love the BBQ. Keep it coming.
This place, however, IS my favorite BBQ joint by far. I know, everyone has their "Oh My God that is the best BBQ in Texas" place, but this is just consistently good, every single time we go there. AND they serve breakfast! Oh hells yes. MIGASSSSSSSSSSSSSS Breakfast Tacos! Home Fried Potatoes with tabasco. Good Lord I'm salivating.
There is something to be said for Tex Mex, and if you can throw it in with my fave meal of the day, breakfast...
Ride 'Em Coyboy! *swings invisible rope over head*
;)
J&J Barbeque -- hmm how to rate ??
For barbque I thought it was good but not exceptional.
The deal is it's not just a barbeque place.
Mexican food --- ta da -- dang good --- really dang good.
I know it's your first trip in, and you slipped into the parking lot because you saw the barbque sign.
I did the same thing on a trip North or south headed to Austin.
Had a passenger in the car going Oh Oh Barbque! Barbque!!
Lets Stop.
I guess I'm just ever eager to please (smirk) so I turned around and pulled in.
When I saw the menue I said - if you want Barbeque go ahead, I'm having something else --
I did try hers, and it was good, but for me the Mexican food put a smile on my face.
Nice to have some choices when there's more than one along for the ride.
We live a couple blocks away from this gem and try to eat here once or twice a week.
The BBQ is ok...it's good, but the reality is the other things on the menu are just as good or better.
The fried catfish is the best in town. Perfectly fried in corn based batter...really good hushpuppies and beans, and fries, etc...
The burger is good as well...kinda greasy, but hell if your eating a burger your not worried about a little grease.
Breakfast is the show stopper here. Get a breakfast taco, any breakfast taco, and order it with potatos. Hands down the best breakfast potatos iv'e had north of San Antonio.
Staff is really hard working and friendly.
My only complaint is that a cold beer would compliment the catfish wonderfully...and they don't serve beer.
Awesome breakfast tacos made to order. Lots of choices for ingrediants.
Just tried their biscuits and OMG wow ... so yummy!
This morning was the worst experience and last time I ever go here! I am a local here in Leander/Cedar Park area. My family and I have eaten here many times before but since the new owners took over it has gone downhill. I called in for a to go order and the guy on the phone interrupted me twice while I was telling him my order and told me to hold on, (while he took another order from someone else). When he finally got back on the phone I asked if he was ready to take my order and he started to argue with me, telling me I wasn't ready to give my order! I called him a Dumba$$ and he immediately told me he to "kiss my a$$ you f****ing C***sucker!" I couldn't believe it! I drove up there to talk to the owner and she called over her husband who had been the one on the phone!!!! And instead of trying to remedy the situation he kept on arguing with me in front of the other customers. I finally walked out and will never go here again. The food is going downhill anyways and this was the last straw!!!
Their breakfast is very good and worth the wait. Their bbq for the most part is very good but it is overpriced.
We read many of the reviews here and thought we would give it a try again. We had not gone in for a year because our last experience was so poor. We figured they must be strugging now because their menu was all over the place - they had fish, BBQ, hamburgers, breakfast etc.. we tried the brisket which was ok but smokey mo's is much better and the hamburger was way over priced for the quality. If I was looking to eat BBQ or a burger in the future I would have to say I will look else where in the future. There is better choices in Cedar Park
Well I am not going to write about BBQ since I have not tried it at J&J's but I do go there for their breakfast. Have been there many times. They have perhaps the best Breakfast Taco's in Williamson county if not the Austin metro area. It' really interesting to watch the cook cooking both American and Mexican Breakfast. They work at lightning speed and seem to have the system down. The Breakfast taco's are large and are hot. Their Chorizo taco's are great. Their other egg dishes are great also. If in Cedar Park try them. The place is always crowded on Saturday and Sunday'. They also have family style seating.

I am new to BBQ, so by no means an expert, but this is the best I have had so far. I actually didn't really think i liked BBQ til I ate here. I had a brisket sandwhich with lots of pickles and it was dee-licious. Now I wish I could eat it every day, but Cedar Park is a ways to drive for a brisket. It was really really good, maybe it's not that far to drive......
We call it "The BBQ Church" since the building that J&J's is housed in used to be a church - but hubby and I absolutely adore this place and it's BBQ. The folks are always extremely friendly, but the food is the real star of the joint - it is the only inexpensive BBQ place I know that always carries beef ribs when others in the same price range may choose not to carry it because beef's price is too high. This is a great place for kids, very casual atmosphere - but not so casual that they don't have plates.
This place is pretty darn good. It has a real family feel to the place, and I think it used to be a church. The food is at least as good a Rudy's on a bad day,it is locally owned, and the staff is friendly. The sausage is okay, the brisket and ribs, beef and pork, are great. Now to their "All You Can Eat." Oh my goodness, most places when they have and all you can eat deal they just give you small plate after small plate with generous helpings of bread and salad. Not this place, they load you up so high that if you can finish the first plate you deserve a second, and they will customize you refills, to a certain extent, with like items, don't worry about switching sides or focusing more on the preferred ente, I get the catfish and shrimp, sometimes I feel like more shrimp sometimes more catfish. The only thing that I have to say about this place that is not the best is that CJ Surf and Turf has better catfish, really it is amazing. But other than that this is the place to go, burgers are really good, if you are tired of Moonies give it a shot. Haven't tried the breakfast yet, one of these days I will wake up early enough. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
