15 reviews for J Alexander's Restaurant
I admit to never having anything other than the bacon cheeseburger here. It's just so darn good it's hard to even pretend to look at anything else on the menu. They grind their own meat daily and make the burgers exactly to the way you want it. I have to have my meat charred and my wife medium and both burgers always come out perfect at the same time. You also get a huge mound of fries and a lunch here is kind of like lunch and dinner all together.
The service is always excellent. I never have to ask for a refill on my pop and they're always on the ball.
Excellent!
My hubby and I joined our 2 friends at this restaurant for a Xmas Eve celebration. I was really sick that night too and didn't feel like eating, but went anyway since I had been dying to try it.
The food was EXCELLENT. My girlfriend and I LOVE, LOVE Mac N Cheese and this restaurant delivers a fantastic one!! We had awesome wine, our waiter was attentive and the desserts were phenomenal. I really enjoyed our experience and the hubby and I both agreed we would go back for a date night to experience it when I was not feeling so shitty. :-)
I had to downgrade my review based on my experience yesterday. I have been going to J. Alexander's for the last 4 years or so, and it has always been EXTREMELY consistent, until yesterday. I always order the Thai Kai salad, and the presentation was completely different and they took off the dressing that makes it so yummy. The service was just ok, not stellar like normal.
I will still go here because it is one of my favorites, but yesterday was the first time I have ever been let down by this place.

I love the atmosphere, service and food at J's! I must admit, while I have tried several dishes - I go for the Bacon Cheeseburger with the mountain of skinny fries. It is always charred to perfection - exactly as ordered and the fries are crispy and salty. Yum. The place is all booths - which is great for groups, meetings or just a nice dinner with the hubby! Service is always top notch and drinks are always replenished before they are finished (and before you have to ask). They are always on top of things and the food is wonderful! Gem in a mall parking lot :)
If you go down the street (can't mention the name but look on my reviews) you will find a way better steak house. I've eaten at all of them in Denver and you will find better service and beef at this price point at a different restaurant.
J Alexander's is a perfect place for a upscale, professional business meal. I came here with my team and I love it! This place is probably one of the best chain restaurants I have been to. It does have that "chain restaurant" feel from the outside, but still great nonetheless.
The service here is excellent. The food is delicious too...the ahi salad and fish of the day is very good...and so is the calamari appetizer. Also, the carrot cake is to DIE FOR. Try it!
I'd like to give 4.5 stars, but alas, that isn't an option. J Alexander's is one of my first choices for steak when I'm feeling like a high roller and want a juicy (medium rare) slab of beef. I don't go that often because I don't often feel like a high roller.
I've always been very satisfied with my service and food here. The meat isn't overly seasoned, the sides are interesting (hello mac n'cheese and maytag blue cheese coleslaw), and the options for salads satisfy my "I'm-trying-to-be-healthy" side. I also really enjoy the swanky interior. Granted, the open kitchen can get a little loud so I've had some rather difficult discussions when seated nearby--not to say the conversation was bad, just that it was hard to hear.
I've tasted and/or had for myself the Filet (thick and yummy), Prime Rib (big and juicy with plenty o'horseradish), and the Ribeye (well marbled and tasty). The baked potatoes are huge. The smashed potatoes are heavy and filling.
Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a great steak down south. I prefer eating here at dinner time rather than at lunch. I think they try to hurry at lunch (as they should) and I've had slightly less enjoyable food at that time.
Meh. This is the 2nd J Alexander's I've been to and although I like the ambiance and service, I am disappointed by the food. Then again, maybe my expectations are too high? Don't get me wrong, the food is good here, just not great. I don't find myself coming back here because I love the place, nor do I think about my experience afterwards. Both times, I've been here with partners for a business lunch, so the environment was conducive for discussion (few interruptions, semi-quiet environment).
I also knocked off a star for charging me for a refill of ice tea. I mean, who the hell does that??? And $2.50 for an Iced Tea??? Holy smokes - did you guys squeeze it out of a tea farmer or something?
Fine for a chain restaurant. Sure, it's a disguised chain, but a chain never-the-less.
The food is average, decor is upper crusty chain, but it does have a very nice section of wines by the glass.
The 3 stars are for having my Seghesio by the glass...way to go !!
Great setting, good food, friendly staff. Moderate prices and large portions. Good mix of offerings. For dessert have the chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream, but share it with three others unless you are a serious chocohalic. Only drawback is that the place is a bit hard to find as it is in the back of a shopping center.
I would recommend J. Alexanders.
- solidly good food
- nice service
- good ambience.. good liquor and wines, but i admit, i usually get a beer :-)
- reasonable price for the upscale feel
- good kids menu (not printed, just ask!)
i like the thai chicken salad, but they have the most amazing selection of sides!!! pick 2, 3, get them all! i suggested they make a "side sampler"
Went for a meal the other night, staff was friendly, the place was clean, the food was great. My wife and I split a NY Strip since it was so large and ordered separate sides, I got the baked mac 'n cheese, it was great, she got the loaded baked potato, also very good, fresh and tasty. It didn't look like it was sitting in a warming drawer for hours. The steak was a good cut of meat, seasoned well but not too much. J Alexander's might be a chain, but at least its friendly and has good food. Many restaurants seem to miss this basic level of service?! I'd go back again for sure.
This is a less than average place to dine, average to poor food and a restaurant manager who does not know much about keeping the customer happy....little attention to the customer, but a lot of attention to his EGO!
Best rating is the wine list other than that find some place else to spend your hard earned cash!
If you dine after 6PM bring a flashlight so you can see what you are eating.
One of the best appetizers on the menu were the grilled artichokes...now removed from the menu!
Always a good to great meal. Service is really good and consistant. Prime rib is above average and the wine list is excelent and reasonable. Everyone is really friendly.
i like this place. it has that dim, swanky, kinda upscale feel to it. both times i've been here, the service has been pretty good. the menu can be a little pricey, but well worth the extra dollars. i definitely recommend the calamari (some of the best i've ever had) and the prime rib sandwich. they butter and toast the hoagie...making it one of the most amazing creations of mankind. and their shoestring fries are just as fantastic. this would be a great restaurant for a date. their location is kinda set back and not at all visible from the street, but i have a feeling they get by on word of mouth. if you're ever in the neighborhood (park meadows) stop by j alexander's.
