A fantastic toy store for those looking to step away from the run of the mill stuff you'll find at Toys R Us...educational, creative toys plus a huge selection of PlayMobile.

A full second section is devoted to board games and books, with a smattering of little chairs for small readers and a space ship with a chair for a little reading astronaut.

If this store had existed when I was little, my mom would have had to resort to bribery to get me out of there (particularly the book section).  Baby showers and young birthdays are no longer going to be my downfall - I've got a shop now!

Also, they have some expansion packs to my beloved Killer Bunnies.  So let's hear it for that!

This place has a super wide range of toys.  From fun things to arts and crafts to games to books - this place has it.  I found it to be a bit pricey compared to your big box toy stores, but the convenient location is nice.

The lady working here was super nice and offered to help me as I spent a significant amount of time wandering the aisles looking for just the right gift for a friend's baby shower.  Problem was I just didn't know what I wanted.

I had been keeping my eyes out for one of those things that makes cow or sheep noises when you turn it over.  Turns out they had them.  I was thrilled.

Overall, a pretty good toy store!

I've been taking my 13 month old daughter to various library baby story times now for a good seven months.  The children's librarians that run them do their best to entertain kids with songs and rhymes and whatnot and she definitely enjoys them, but eventually the whole thing turns into a crazy ants-in-the-pants convention and after twenty minutes all the babies are ready to start playing with the toys.

So when we went to Izilla Toys on Wednesday for story time and realized that it really was story time - the reading of some stories -  I didn't think there would be any way that my daughter would be able to sit still and listen.  But she did, she sat there and paid attention and enjoyed the books for way longer than the normal library story time length.  Combine her new found love for her own little chair with a Nutri-grain bar with a very engaging owner/story-reader and you get a little girl entranced by stories.  She's growing up so fast!

Anyway, story time at Izilla is on Wednesdays at 10:30.  They provide some snacks and drinks.  Oh yeah, and the toys at this toy store are really cool too.  We bought some finger paints that we've been meaning to buy.  Though we don't make it to Capitol Hill often, Izilla will definitely be one of our stops from now on.

Just so you know - it's totally ok to pee your pants here. In fact, it's a rather usual, and even tame occurrence.  See the below note from the business owner:

HI,
Thanks for the great review.  We see a lot of pee on the floor at the shop.  i think it's hard for the little ones to pull themselves away from the play.  We even had a kid pull down his pants and poop in the corner once because he didn't want too miss out on any fun.  Congrats to your kid on his success and remember he is always welcome to pee on the floor at Izilla if he's having too much fun to bother with the potty.  We're used to it.

The ten year old I am borrowing and I went here this morning before her acting class. Where oh where does a ten year old spend her hard-earned allowance? Izilla Toys, of course. I felt dumb when we found it because shamefully enough, I hadn't noticed it when dining at La Spiga.

Once we got in, the owner was having a hilarious conversation about the validity of reporting on Sarah Palin's antics and I started sniffing the floor for little kid pee. After not finding any, I let myself soak in the aroma that is Toy for Sale.

Some might say I am more of a kid than the ones I borrow from time to time. Which means I made a bee line to the stuffed animal section.
Low and behold- to what should my wondering eye appear? But a puppet of platapus and a walrus was here! And although both were cute and cuddly, with their stomachs stuffed with just enough fluff to make them regret that last bowl of pasta- the walrus won out. First because he had a mustache and second because the perfect name popped into my head for him:

Studebaker came home with us.

The ten year old got a fairy on a horse and I didn't get to check out the book section so we'll be back. But not before I've given Studebaker a chance to critique my interior decorating, the amount of daily fruits and veggies I am eating and my taste in early vintage wines. You know, all the things that stuffed walrus puppets tend to care about...

If you're looking for unique and useful toys for your kid or as a gift - run, don't walk (but look both ways before you cross) to Izilla. There's something here for every age/gender/interest from birth through the pre-teen years. You got your trains, wood blocks, vehicles, dolls, books galore and even stuff like marbles, paint supplies and various electronic doo-dads. Plus you won't find most of this stuff at your local "R Us" or rhymes with "Shmarget" stores. The owners (or at least one of them) are always here to answer your questions, tell you about how they traveled to Vienna to meet the toymaker or otherwise get you what you need.

They even periodically have sales, which is a great time to get some of the larger items. We got our son a Kettler tricycle for less than I've seen it anywhere (including online), and they put it together, which probably saved me 2 paper cuts, 3 busted knuckles and 4 hours of cursing.

Once my kid is old enough to sit still when he's not strapped into something, I'll take him here for story time, which I hear is a lot of fun on the days they have it.

One other note - the new space is a lot better (if still crammed) compared to the old house down in Madison valley. It's downstairs from La Spiga and Caffe Stellina and just a couple blocks from Cal Anderson park, so you can take your kid to the park for some outdoor/bum watching time after you buy their love (I mean, buy some toys) at Izilla.

I have 2 children, and my husband and I probably both wish Neverland was real. Anyway, we discovered Izilla after a children's film festival, one rainy afternoon, and we go back at least monthly ever since. I love their GAME NIGHT! One Wednesday a month, you can go in and learn and play new games. It is great to get a chance to try them out before buying.

The selection of fun, educational, and great cool toys is out of this world. I head here before I go anywhere for birthday gifts. The staff always has an excellent selection if you don't know what you want or what you're looking for. Tell them the age of the child, and you'll get several helpful suggestions!!

I am also a person who hates the "disposable" clutter toys so many stores are full of today. The toys from Izilla are the quality of heirlooms, and check out the book section too!!

Love this store! Always can find toys at a wide range of costs for my grandchildren - and even find some for myself. Staff is very helpful when needed. I put a kazoo on the ribbon for my 4 year old niece and it was her favorite Christmas present.

I love this place.  Seriously, I wandered in one day when I really needed to laugh.  I bought some really cool toys and turned my day around.  Go, play, live... have fun people!

Once again the yelpers have helped me fine a cool spot that I did not know about. I took my little boy here the other day..and wow what a cool toy store it is..most of the toys are hands on for imagination..

We spent 15 min there, when i realized my son had a accident (seems to be quite common there)..so out the door we went..and came back 10 min later...

I really was pleased with there selection of books and puzzles as well..i think santa will be making a stop there soon...

I did find the prices to be abit steep...but the toys are well made, and you wont find many of the items at Toys R us...a nice place to spend the late morning..thanks again seattle yelpers

This place is badass.

I love toy stores, because I love toys.  I also work with kids, so I have even more of an excuse to go to toys stores.

I am also picky about toys.  I like things that are open-ended, classy, non-plastic and non-electronic.  And the majority of the stuff at Izilla fits this!

I love the little wooden pieces of fruit that they had.  And the tea kettle that makes noise (even though it is electronic, the noise is realistic and rad.)

The guy there was super nice and didn't rush us out when we got in there right before closing time.  I would love to come back here sometime if I ever need to buy toys.

I LOVED this toy store!

It has a lot of unique toys, games, and activities for kids.  My daughter (13 months) and I went for story time and had a blast.  The owner had snacks for the kids, and really interacted with the kids while reading.  The owner was VERY friendly and supports the community by donating items to nearby businesses to create kid-friendly spaces.  There was so much stuff there I think you could shop for any child from baby to tween.  I will definitely be going back to support this fantastic find.

Price of toys is about medium range, when you compare with other wooden/educational/non-junk (aka walmart) toys.

A 5 star business in my opinion!

Izilla's  is friendly and conveniently located on Capitol Hill.    They have an average selection of toys and a small section of books.    Sometimes they have story time which is worth a visit.       The owners are very good at helping you find presents for any age kid.     The only thing I don't like about Izillas is that they don't carry a wide variety of stuff.   They don't have a lot of legos, or Unifix cubes or Webkinz or Mr. Potato Heads or Polly Pockets.   It's a pain because if you want those kinds of things (and who doesn't?) you have to get in your car and drive to Factoria.

Great toy store... fabulous choices in fun stuff for kids and (like me) adults who like toys. I loved when it was in the house, now it's moved to a sleek building in capitol hill... a downstairs location... the ambiance isn't as good, but it's still one of my fav. toy stores. I'm not sure if there is an elevator to get down to the store for strollers and wheelchairs... but I hope so because it's a steep staircase.

I normally wouldn't be drawn to a toy store, but I was looking for a kite on a sunny, windy Seattle afternoon, drove past Izilla Toys and decided to explore.  Izilla has a vast array of unique toys (at least they seemed unique to me) in a variety of categories from game boards to bouncing balls to kites.  Although the store is basically a small converted house, it has been packed to the brim with its toy selection.  I  enjoyed wandering through the store with thoughts of a long-gone childhood and did, in the end, purchase a kite!

I love this toy store- nothing beats a toystore that feels like a home (it used to be a house!)  They have awesome and educational toys.  Also wooden play food- I heart wooden play food and love to buy it for my kids.  Fun store- you should try it!

A lovely sunny place to take the kids after a scrumptious brunch at Cafe Flora across the way.  Beautiful toys and lots of fun, out of the normal, stuff.  Hard to keep kids from getting too handle friendly.

What a great place! After finding this incredible toy store by accident one afternoon after lunch at Pizza Fusion, it is now, always the highlight of my children's' visits to Capitol Hill. Any trip to the area now includes a visit to Izilla. If only we could buy everything in the store. My daughters love the book area and my son loves all the wonderful toys, and we always leave with a purchase, usually a book and unique toy. This is the best place to pick out great presents and the owners are so knowledgeable and friendly. If I were a child, i would never want to leave there!

This new location is a bit weird. Not easy to enter, especially with a stroller. I thought the store could be a little more exciting. Something beautiful and fun, not just sterile shelves of toys in boxes. I think I preferred the previous location. My kids didn't last very long here, which is quite strange. Almost like they were bored. Hmmm......

I really enjoy browsing in this store.  Somehow, I never find anything that I really want to buy.  I have two nieces to shop for, and this place carries plenty of fun and educational toys...but nothing screams out and says "BUY ME!!". I highly recommend this store all the same.

Nice store with some nice toys- wooden stuff, educational, etc. (NOT the usual stuff you find at Target, etc.)  However, there's no wheelchair/stroller access and though the owner was very nice about helping me get my stroller up the stairs, I found the store too small to manuever my stroller around.  In the end, I left my stroller on the porch but then had to chase my kid around, trying to keep curious hands off of cool-looking toys.

Nice toy store - but if you have toddlers  - it's quite a bear getting down all the stairs after trying to find parking. It's now in Capitol Hill. I wouldn't go back - no elevator, and no parking.

A well thought and much needed toy store in the Madison Valley.  Store is located in an actual house which beckons children through the front gate.  Yard has playhouse, sandbox and often a lemonade stand all for kids to enjoy while you shop.  Front porch is loaded down with goods many of which kids can handle.  The happy couple/owners/parents of Izilla will greet you with their knowledge and assist you in your purchase.  If it's not too busy, they'll even gift wrap!
