My review is based on classes that Heather has taught at Adeline Yoga Studio.  She's very clear, organized and thoughtful about her yoga instruction - she has a great voice and is very articulate.  She's attentive and available, supportive and a kind instructor.  Highly recommend her beginner series at Adeline Yoga Studio.

Heather is the yoga instructor I've been searching for.  Strong, thoughtful, experienced, smart, completely unpretentious, and most importantly, takes ownership over her teaching.  I've put my body in some crazy shapes in her classes and have never had so much as a strained muscle, let alone an injury.  I can't say the same for some other classes in the Bay Area.  Heather has helped me to build strength and flexibility and this has served me in lots of ways outside of Sunday morning class.  For top-notch yoga, go see Heather.

Great teacher and class, I would recommend Heather to anyone seeking to build on their yoga practice.

To give some background, I've been doing yoga on and off for several years.  Mainly off, because I kept getting injured from various poses I was not ready for.  I started thinking I wouldn't ever progress to a higher level other than beginner because of this.  I decided to give yoga one more try and I'm extremely glad I did.

Enter: Heather's Iyengar beginner's series.  I had read several reviews before signing up with Heather because many classes I've taken go for the 'let the students learn on their own' way of doing things, which is what led to my yoga induced injuries in the first place.  So I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from the class.

I can tell you right now that I am blown away at the amount of progress I've made over the past 2 months.  Coming from a competitive sports background I used to scoff at props to help one get into certain poses because I figured they were for people who 'couldn't handle it'.   I've since learned to put my ego aside and use all the props I can, because they're extremely useful for getting into the poses so that you can develop into them through consistent practice.  After several weeks I can now do a shoulder stand without feeling like I'm going to topple over!  And this is coming from someone whose sense of balance is not very strong.

I recently went to another studio since I wasn't able to attend Heather's normal class time - it was like I was on another level with my own awareness; how far to push myself, how my alignment was set, and whether or not to use a prop or variation of an asana in order to move forward with the class.  I felt a huge sense of accomplishment because of the awareness that Heather's practice taught me.

Heather is funny, down to earth, and passionate about her teaching.  I feel very relaxed in her class and everyone is there to learn.  I don't know if it's me being self conscious but some other studios I've been to people have their attention more on each other rather than themselves.  Not like that here at all, so there was no need to be self conscious.

Because of the progress I've made, I have a new passion for learning more about yoga that I never thought I would have.

After losing my job I stopped going to Heather's yoga classes after going 3 times a week for a year, but just went back to her for a private lesson at her well set up home studio. She was so gentle with me and wasn't at all mad that I hadn't been to class for so long.

She always took such good care of me in class and always noticed when I was slightly off kilter and would straighten me out or tuck a blanket or prop just so. A private lesson with her is a deluxe version of that kind of attention. Plus she picks poses that are tailored to my specific issues. She even does that in class.

I remember one time a long time student came to class who had just been in a car accident. Heather gave her alternate poses during the whole class without compromising the attention she gave the rest of the students. I was very impressed by her ability to do this and by how much she cares about her students. With other teachers, when I had an injury or the pose was too hard, the teacher usually says "Just do child's pose". Not Heather! She'll just tweak the pose to meet you where you are.

One thing to note about Heather's teaching style, she is very engaged with a lot of talk time about how to do the poses correctly and also tales of yoga life lessons. If you want a less chatty class you might prefer her restorative classes. But careful, her restorative classes are so relaxing I sometimes can't bike or drive afterward! So plan time after class to take a walk or visit with other yoginis at Sweet Adeline Bakery just up the street from the Adeline Yoga Studio.

I just love how friendly the students are at Adeline Yoga. No show offs or more limber than thou action going on.

I have been taking a beginning yoga series with Heather at Adeline Yoga Studio for a little over a month now and I am really enjoying the classes and the thoroughness of her teaching. As my class is for beginners, she really focuses on proper alignment of the body and corrects you as necessary. If you have problem areas (i.e. knees) she will work with you and show you how to correct your movement to avoid injury or overuse. I am really beginning to see a difference in my performance in class because of the thoroughness in her teaching. When our series is over I will not hesitate to sign on for her continuing series.

I highly recommend Heather, as I am currently about 8 weeks into her beginner's series at Adeline Yoga Studio and her class has been unlike any other I've tried...in the best way possible.
I've done years of classes on and off (something which certainly doesn't lend itself well to developing a home practice), but I've never tried Iyengar.
Two years ago now I injured my back, and I have to find a new way to live with the flare-ups of inflammation, tension and pain. My most amazing body work transformation lead to not only immediate pain relief, but a strong suggestion I try Iyengar, and only Iyengar yoga.
Heather's class has built on poses in such a way that I can (begin to) understand them deeply with my body, as present and spiritual things, as something living, and not as a static positions I need aim to replicate or perform so that it "looks right".  Funny thing since most people I know who do other types of yoga associate Iyengar with standing still. I'm attending with my gf who loves flow classes, and at first felt that things were unconnected, as if we were just doing a pose, stopping, starting another, stopping, etc.
Somewhere around the 4/5th week though, we feel more open in our chest/shoulder, longer in the spine. I catch and correct myself when I let my lower back curve inch forward too much and my shoulders fold in...Like most things, learning is a slower process than we wish. Yet I feel confident for once that I can learn and develop a new body awareness.
Heather is warm, open, has a light-hearted humor yet somehow manages not to mince words either. I highly recommend her classes and as an instructor.

Heather's the go-to teacher for Iyengar yoga in the East Bay. She's big on the use of props to make challenging poses accessible to students of different levels. She's warm and funny. too!

I have been doing yoga with Heather for a little over a year.  Her yoga expertise and fun personality have helped me with mending several old sports injuries.  Her classes also give you the tools to become more stable, relaxed, and present in your everyday life.  Heather's classes are so much better than any others I have been to that I don't even bother going to other teachers anymore.

I have worked with 5 other teachers and Heather is best yoga teacher.  She explains the positions, she helps you understand your body, she is patient, and every class is different.  Yoga is hard for me because I have a very stiff body, but she has helped my body loosen up.  Each week I improve.  She is the best, great personality too.

Heather is the best yoga teacher I have ever had.  She is extremely dedicated, enthusiastic, kind and supportive.  She cares about each and every student that comes her way.  Her classes are interesting.  I look forward to each class that I take with Heather.  She is "the Harvard of Yoga."
