My watch's battery has been dead for about a week, and today was the day that I finally remembered to get it taken care of. After a Google search and Yelp search, I found myself on my way to It's About Time. As I said, I only stopped in for a watch battery replacement, but was pretty impressed that it only took 2 minutes to do. Price was $10 (double what I used to pay for battery replacements at my jeweler in California), but hey.. not bad for a 3 minute visit.
Plus, they have lots of very beautiful (and lots of unique!) grandfather clocks and mantle clocks. -

Store location had an unpleasant smell; as if cigarettes had been smoked indoors. Prices were not posted on the grandfather clocks and the proprietor took on an amused and condescending air when we asked about this. The attitude seemed to be: "Oh, la de da, our precious grandfather clocks are the best in the world; why did you bother visiting us if money is a concern?"
The whole 5 minute experience felt trashy, but what did we expect from a strip mall? Couldn't wait to get out of there. -

This family run old-fashioned business is a breath of fresh air in the world of super-stores and Wal-Marts. Need a new battery in that old watch? Maybe buy an antique pocket watch for a special birthday? Like the clocks that play tunes and give a bit of a show on the hour? Or, maybe you're interested in an antique grandfather clock. These are some of the things in this tiny little clock repair/sales shop. But, that's not what I want to review. What I loved was the son out front taking the money and entertaining the customers by showing off what the clocks can do; and the brother in back repairing the jewelry, and the old dad with watch repair glasses on his forehead. These are the old family run businesses that need to be saved. My old tiny watch was worked on multiple times at the Fred Meyer watch-shop. They'd do whatever it is they do and it would work for a week and give up again. At It's About Time, the dad explained what was going on and how I needed new parts and I trusted him. Disclaimer: I've not yet had my watch worked on because they have such a backlog (says something?) so I can't vouch for the work, but while I waited the jewelry brother adjusted a bracelet for free. I have no doubt that pop can fix my watch. And if not? Well I had a great experience learning about clocks and my kids will see a slice of life that we used to see, before Wal-Mart. (Oh, and if you're going there, be sure to go on the hour! :-)
