We went on a Wednesday and were seated immediately. The house salad and minestrone were really good, but the actual main course dishes looked a little iffy. The marinara sauce was quite tasty, but all the creamy dishes looked kinda gloopy. The chocolate fondant cake was insanely good.
Well, the decor may be nicer, but this is *no* Volare...
We headed here after waiting in line forever at another Italian joint (who's name escapes me). We were a large group, and they managed to seat us fairly quickly with a minimum of fuss.
Orders were placed and bread was brought to the table - a small foccacia loaf for every two people, served with balsamic and olive oil- but was never replenished. I ordered the capellini basilica (OK I may be caught in a rut) - the tomotoes were chopped up chunks of barely ripe tomato WITH SKINS (ick) and the garlic was imperceptible. Bland, bland, bland. I actually had to salt my dish, which I almost *never* do in a restaurant.
The boyfriend had the California penne, which was tastier but only because of the goat cheese. Vegetarian food should never have to rely on the addition of cheese for flavour.
The prices were reasonable but they should be - it's pasta, not rocket science.
Ive been going here for a long time, ( this one is not as good as the one on Lincoln near LAX ) and the food is good. ive always had good food good service and other than it being very busy often, i like it here. I go as much as i can. ive done take out a lot as well. But please bring back your deepdish pizza, i miss it...
Other than the cool hostess and wait staff that night, I don't have a whole lot to say about this place. After wasting our time standing in line across the street at Sangria, we left and decided to look for food. Since it was close to 11 already, the only place that was still open was this one.
I ordered the shrimp salad & what was was presented to me was a hot mess. Judging by the description on the menu, I thought to myself, "grilled veggies and shrimp salad - nice, light combination." Wrong. The veggies were still steaming when the plate was brought to the table - a hot pile of peppers, onions, zucchini. if I wanted hot vegetables, i would've ordered something with a side of hot veggies. I was not prepared for something so undesirable and tasteless.

This place is just, eh. Nicely decorated, great location and a good sized menu but the food is nothing to write home about. And as a side note, we're pretty sure our waitress was totally cracked out. Didn't exactly add to the overall ambiance of the place.
I haven't been here in awhile, but my previous experience with ILK has been mediocre at best. I think this is a restuarant that really trades on its location. Because there are so many good restuarants in the area and the layout and decor of the restaurant is great, its just such a disappointment when your food arrives and it is very uninspired, run of the mill, Italian food.
