The "Best Restaurant of the Year for 2009" sign hanging outside is no joke. This place is wonderful.
Being a small space in the Sweet Bay shopping plaza, I was surprised when I walked in and found myself in a nice Italian restaurant. The prices are comparable to any reputable place ($14.99 for many of the dishes) and for good reason.
My chicken crusted parmesan was perfect. It was crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the service was great, even though they were pretty busy on a Tuesday night.
For dessert I had the Tuxedo Mouse Brownie. Oh... my... God... It was like floating on a heavenly cloud and then eating that cloud. Unbelievable! I split it with my husband and father-in-law and we were practically wrestling for the last bites. Even my husband, who ordinarily lacks a sweet tooth, was seen scraping the sides long after the plate was cleaned. I can't describe it any more than that - you just need to try it. Trust me. If you enjoy being giddy from a dessert, you need to order that item.
The brownie is only a small part of it; it's mostly mouse, whipped cream, and deliciousness.
I was very impressed with this restaurant and will definitely come back again. Don't let the location fool you - Italian Kitchen is the real deal.
Oh wow, I can't believe I'm the first to review this place. It's AWESOME!
We went there for dinner one night, not sure where else to go. A couple of the people in the party had been before and swear to its quality.
It's in a shopping center... uugh. Though some of the best restaurant I've been in are in shopping centers, part of the strip mall, I just have this thing against that idea. It's like going to "China Dragon" or "Wok and Roll." Those are the places you expect in a shopping center strip area, maybe "Jersey Mikes" or a "Subway."
Lemme tell ya, this is one of those rare few. We sat down and ordered the calamari. It came out and uh oh... it was most likely at one time frozen. Like, frozen just ready to throw in a fryer, not frozen meat later breaded. They were okay, needed salt.
But oooooooh then the main course. The pasta I had was FAN-TAS-TIC. Seriously, my Italian Grandmother (God rest her soul) cooked this good. It had great sausage and shrimp and sauce, and the pasta actually tasted fresh! Such a change from the calamari!
The chef came out to talk to us. Ah, that's why the food is so good. He's an Italian, but not only Italian, but... mmmmm... Sicilian... my favorite food. He didn't speak perfect English, but he was very very nice. We thanked him over and over again for the food. Then came the cannolis, also VERY real Italian.
I love this place, I'll be back!
