5 reviews for Italian Corner Restaurant
I'll second the warm and friendly service, but my linguine and meatballs was average. The portion was generous, and the price was very reasonable, less than $15 for dinner. I was there for dinner, and stromboli wasn't on the menu. There is a brief children's menu.
Oddly, there was also a very slight poopy smell in the restaurant, but that might have been the loud and nearly drunk Yankees fan a couple of tables over.
After browsing the previously-Yelped places in Windsor I realized I had not reviewed this place yet.
The eat in experience was pretty disastrous. My eating partner ordered the chicken parm which was way below acceptable, dry, and if I remember correctly weirdly scorched in places. Pasta is limp and watery and covered in that very flavorless red sauce so many Ital-American places in CT seem to love so much. No offense to old people but my eating partner remarked that the whole experience reminded them of "old people food." And I know a lot of old people with great taste who would understand exactly what that means. Service was difficult to get and standoffish when actually attending to our table.
I'm throwing in an extra star though because the take-out pizza is pretty darn good. I like getting one with a lot of toppings. The sliced meatball is pretty good if you're into that sort of thing. Not the best pizza in the world but definitely a step up from a lot of places.
This family run restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat when I go visit my hometown. Here is where I learned about a Stromboli. The other restaurants where I've had stromboli's since just don't quite match up. The stromboli in my opinion should be a small football or loaf shaped pizza dough exterior, baked to perfection, and loaded with whatever toppings you like. But they way they do it here, is it's already pre-loaded with pepperoni, onions, peppers, and lots of mozarella cheese. The sauce is a tiny bit sweet, but ask them for a little extra on the side, so you have something to mop up with the extra sides of fresh bread you can grab.
Lunch time gets the local business crowd, and you wait in line cafeteria style where you can point at what you want and the server will grab your selection for you. Dinner is sit down and a little more formal. Take out pizza's are good, but a bit "soggy" for my taste due. Maybe due to excessive vegetable moisture or the sauce? Or just crappy boxes.

Very friendly and helpful waitstaff; we felt very welcome here even though we stayed on very late sipping our wine, almost til closing. The food was OK, a little bland for my taste. I had the shrimp scampi, had to add red pepper flakes and parmesan at the table . Salad made with iceberg lettuce.
Overall enjoyable experience
I don't think I've had a more pleasant and friendly experience at a restaurant in a long time. What warm and wonderful people! What sensational Italian food! I went to Italian Corner, based on a recommendation from some people I met at a school just up the street on route 75. (I was visiting the area.) What a find. I walked in with an associate and we instantly felt the warmth by seeing the owners literally wave us over to the counter where we ordered our meal. Pizza pies, strombolis, calzones, platters of pasta noodles, eggplant parmagiana -all there for us to savor and order. All we had to do was select an entree, add some salad, etc., and even top it off with some tasty Italian beer (Moretti, a first time for me). I had the stuffed shells with the marinara sauce, salad and it was sensational. Packed and flavored with this amazing ricotta cheese, the shells were astounding. The salad was filled to the brim with fresh veggies and seasoned with an Italian-style dressing that light years ahead of the typical Wish Bone stuff. My friend had the chicken and sausage cacciatore dish with pasta and loved it. Also, a pile of fresh, sliced and garlic-buttered Italian bread was next to us and we enjoyed that. Because we seemed friendly and said we were out of towners, we were also gifted with these little gems that were like garlic rolls. Marvelous all around. We loved the meal, and enjoyed the warmth of the owners and gentle feel of a place that cooked all their recipes themselves because this is a family business. Screw the corporate Italian places like Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill. They can never duplicate the warmth and authenticity of this family's tried and true recipes. I will definitely return the next time I am in the Windsor/Springfield area.
