BUYER BEWARE: MY WAITRESS PADDED HER TIP.
I paid the bill with my debit card, writing the tip amount and total at the bottom of the receipt. At the end of the month, I balanced my checkbook. (Most people don't comapre the charges on their receipts to the charges on their credit card statements. Maybe she was counting on that, and the fact that the amount was so small, who would notice or complain?) It was off by $4.35. So, I called requesting to speak to the manager. I was refused. Yes, refused. Having no time to argue, I explained the situation to the young woman who answered the phone. Her tone was not surprised, disappointed, or apologetic. She merely said, "I'll take care of it." She did. The charge was removed quickly. But judging by the young woman's tone, I wondered how isolated the incident. Only she knows who waited my table. Needless to say, I stopped patronizing this restaurant and won't be patronizing their newer, Rizelli Cafe.

I'm a Turk, and this place is the real deal. Especially impressed with the Iskender kebap, since it's hard to find outside of Turkey... or even *in* Turkey!

Unfortunately Istanbul Cafe is temp. closed. I am not sure when it will be back open since there's no explanation posted outside. It's a miss for those of you who haven't tried this place because it was the 2nd best Turkish rest. in the town after Sultan's Kitchen. A good alternative to Istanbul Cafe may be Family Restaurant in Brookline (owned by the previous chef of Istanbul Cafe).

Lovely restaurant. It was my first try at turkish cuisine and i was defiantely pleased. The environment was splendid, romantic and quiet.
Istanbul Cafe is the city's most popular Turkish restaurant. When navigating through the lengthy menu of authentic Turkish cuisine, don't pass on the patlican salata, a delicious appetizer dish of chopped, broiled eggplant mixed with lemon and garlic. Also, the Iskender kebab is delicious. Finish with an order of kunefe (a large, shredded wheat pancake with sweet cheese, cinnamon and sugar) and a cup of strong Turkish coffee.
