"Serenity Now!" This was our "playground" for most of the year when I lived on Daniel Island. Imagine getting off work and only 20 minutes later relaxing at the beach, our FREE always dependable baby-sitter. Priceless!

Tips to know before you go:
1. Park free at the Isle of Palms County Park and walk the half mile to the beach. There is a super-cool playground, clean restrooms and showers. Metered parking is available between 10 and 14th streets; FREE after 6PM and outside the beach season (March - October)

2. There are several places to eat on the island, including 2 restaurants featuring incredible ocean views (that's reflected in the price). My favorite was the ice-cream shop next to the rest area.

3. Dogs are welcome year-round but must be on leash except early morning from 5 to 8 AM. This is not that much enforced I've seen plenty cutie pooches running around freely.

Isle of Palms is a popular beach for Charlestonians minus the snooty ones who "only go to Folly".

Good waves, plenty of sand, well kept up. Good pick up volleyball games, too.

There is paid parking and a touristy mecca at the actual park confines with (average) restaurants and a pier, but I recommend working your way north along the island. You can park in the neighborhoods for free, close to one of the many beach access roads. When they say to keep your car 4 feet minimum from the roads, they're not kidding either! The town doesn't make their money just from property taxes on the multimillion dollar homes.

By the way, watch out for fire ants when parking the car and unpacking the gear. I'm literally still nursing 8 bites on my feet.

Isle of Palms is great if you have some kids that need to burn off your energy, or you are a big kid yourself and need to burn off some energy.

Plus, you have the benefit of the short drive across the bridge to Mt. Pleasant where there are some nice spots for a bite to restore your energy.
