How annoyed am I - let me count the ways:
1. Mediocre - not bad - not good either - food.
2. Mediocre food destroyed by annoyingly bad service. Snotty, huffy punk serving in the bar making "happy hour" distinctly unpleasant with his poutty, stormy antics. Not sure what bug was up his butt, but whatever it was it caused him to be annoyed and rude with all the customers and his co-workers alike.
3. This place oozes chain restaurant, corporate, formula ambiance. You know that "Wow aren't we fun and funky" feel just like the other 50 exact copies of this location.
4. Had to enter into Yelp as it was too new for the Yelp database and the Islands website kept crashing while I was trying to find the Boulder location address due to bad Java programing.
All right - got that out, now why two stars, not one? Fish tacos were acceptable. Wings were also acceptable given the half off price during happy hour. Burger barely acceptable, too firm a manufactured patty that was helped out by good shoestring cut onions.
That's about all the time I want to spend on this place.

I'm on so many mailing lists (not of my own doing) that I seem to receive coupons for all the new restaurants in Boulder. After realizing that the coupon I had for Islands expired soon, my husband and I trekked down there to check it out.
Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little bit hokey, and definitely chain-like.
The food wasn't too great, either. Both times we went there (yes, we did go back, in a moment of desperation one day when we realized that was the closest place and we were both starving), I ordered the same burger...and both times I was pretty disappointed. The first time, the chef actually cooked the burger to medium (which was OK with me, even though I said medium rare), but the second time the chef charred the heck out of the meat. Not one of the times was the plate very aesthetically pleasing. The only decent thing on the menu seems to be the China Coast salad... but even that isn't worth the trip as you can find similar salads priced much lower at other restaurants.
All in all, I wouldn't go back. I believe that for the money there are WAY better places to eat. Islands was overpriced, over hyped, and overrated (not on here, though, yes!).
