The good:
They have an incredible selection of movies and one of those polishers to make sure you don't end up with a scratched up disk.

The bad:
The scent of popcorn is infused into the walls.

The fun:
Perhaps some people won't appreciate this, but I do.  The staff there, as with most movie rental places, watch a lot of movies.  And as happens less often, you kind of feel like they're sizing you up based on what you're renting.  And when you happen to be renting a horror movie based on a graphic novel that met with ZERO acclaim at the box office, they commend your bold decision to choose a movie that is by most accounts not worth the dinosaurs that went into the plastic of the DVD.  

While this can be annoying in some circumstances, it's actually fun at Island Video.  Maybe it's because the staff is articulate and clever in a "total movie geek" kind of way and it doesn't come off as even the slightest bit offensive.

Anyway, I like Island Video and reduced my Netflix account just so I have more excuses to go there.

I thought about moving out of the area recently, and I actually thought, "What will I do without the guys and gals of Island Video?"
Seriously the best employees I have ever run into in a store. They will chat with you about suggestions, notice what you like and make INFORMED recommendations, order movies based on what people have requested (old movies or foriegn), and  the prices are good.

They also have a great selection (yes, small store, but they are really diverse), including awesome documentary and tv show sections.

This is the best retail shop in Madison Park, without exception. The staff is knowledgeable, the return policy is reasonable and they have just about anything I am looking for. Not sure, but it looks and feels locally owned. Kudos to Island Video.
