I left my frequent buyer card at home, but they gave me a new one.  I hope I can combine them later on?

Decent shave ice.

I don't know what people's problems with the cone is - mine was gone before I had any melt disasters.

A bit crystalized in the bottom - first I thought it was the ice cream that was icy.

good flavors - li hing could use a boost, even though they call it "lot's of li hing mui" - or something.

I gave this place an extra star because Obama was here.  I leaned on the same counter as the President of the United States.  In the newspaper clip he looked VERY giddy....like a kid in a candy store...or like a keiki in a shave ice store.  I, on the other hand, was less so.

The boy with the long braided goatee packed our ice VERY tight and we had to chip away at it.  I prefer the fluffy stuff (like Waiola).  The flavor was good, but I couldn't get past the texture.  Halfway through I had to flip the ice over into another cup to get to the ice cream.  Dumped the rest.  Sorry...I know, there are starving children in Africa that would've KILLED for my left-over shave ice.

This place hits the spot after a day on the beach.  There are tons of flavors and the people that worked there were super nice.  You have to get Island Snow when you're in Kailua! In fact, I'm going back to Kailua next weekend and I'm definitely making a stop in here.

Oh, the ice is hard and not fine as Matsumoto's.  Oh, the ice cream scoop is puny, if at all detectable.  Oh, I can't really taste the watermelon.

Oh,...  I'll stop complaining since this is the default location for shaved ice here in Kailua.

So, it just tasted like a snowcone for me.  I'm from Texas and I didn't see a difference between a snowcone and shaved ice....

I got ice cream at the bottom of mine, which was pretty cool.. but extra money.  It was pretty expensive, roughly $6.00 for two shaved ices...

I got Li Hing Mui & Lychee.  Pretty good.  New coffee flavor was good too.

Anyway, they've got a cool gear shop to the left of the stand.  Atmospherically it's an awesome place to get shaved ice, but not the best.

Meh, but in a pinch, and 89 degree weather, it's Rock Star quality....

If  you are visiting Kailua and find yourself waiting for your plate lunch from K&K next door, sure drop on by and try it.  As others have said the ice is too hard.  I watched them pack my order to rock hard consistency, which is no way to serve Shave ice!!  I couldn't find the ice cream, I paid for it, it showed signs of melting on my t-shirt but I couldn't taste it.

The prices and size of the shave ice were fine, and since there isn't any other choices this close to Kailua beach, it works...

I'm giving it a two because I had a friend who went there in a skimpy bikini and she got free shave ice and I didn't.  She just held the money in the air and he looked at her and shook his head.

"no need", he said.

When I got up there it was $5.00 because I eat a lot.  Maybe I should try the skimpy bikini next time.

Why is it when you don't want something, you see it everywhere.. and when you do want it, you can't find it.  That happened to us one day and finally some random sales attendant in Macy's told us where to find shaved ice in Kailua.

I had strange strawberry, pineapple and lychee.  Good flavors but kind of seemed like a snow cone?  They do offer it with snowcap and ice cream.

This hugely popular place to get shave ice is well worth standing in the sometimes rather long line.  We went here almost every night for two weeks.

Try some of the more exotic flavors.  My favorite was lychee.  And always get the scoop of ice cream on the bottom.  That little bit of cream makes a world of happy difference.

Also, this is a great shop for T-shirts.  Not crappy T-shirts either.

... The Island Snow store in Kailua serves up shave ice alongside of their collection of surf/snow/street apparel. It's a popular stop for those going to one of the many beautiful beaches on the Windward side, Lanikai being my favorite.

In addition to being able to buy their name brand apparel at the same time as your treat, Island Snow has a few other unique features when it comes to their shave ice flavors. They have catchy names that turn ordinary-sounding flavors into exciting ones. Godzilla Grape, Kuulei Coconut, Da-Kine Lemon Lime and Kailua Coffee to name a few. They also set up their colorful collection of syrups above a lighted counter-top, much like you'd find your assortment of drinks at a fancy nightclub or contemporary bar.

Ok so I've sampled all the shaved ice joints on the island- yes I'm an addict. Now those of you who've had as much shaved ice as I have may be scratching your head at this 4 star rating. So here's my justification:

It's true that the ice is not shaved as fine here, but they make up for it in different ways. My go to is always a shaved ice with ice cream and azuki beans- but since coming to Island snow I have fallen in love with the snowcap too. The snowcap is a delicious topping to the shave ice (warning yes it is sickeningly sweet I think it's some sort of sweetened condensed milk concotion) but no matter it's amazing. Now I wouldn't recommend a snow cap, ice cream and beans- it's just way to much- so go one way or the other. Island snow also has a much wider more varied choice of flavors than say Matsumoto's (like Snazberry!), and honestly I like the flavors better. Plus the prices are right, they have punch cards for frequent visitors and the location couldn't be any sweeter a mere 10 steps from Kailua beach.

This is the cleanest shaved ice place I have been to as it is half store/half shaved ice, but....the ice is too icy and not fine enough...

I was hot as heck coming from the beautiful Kailua beach so this place did the trick, but overall not the best shaved ice you will fine...

Not a big recommendation, but cool store to buy Island Snow product..

this is a snow cone disguised as shaved ice.

but you don't have many options on this side of the island so suck it up!

Miniscule shop that has both T-shirts (sporting local logos) and shave ice. The location makes it a great stop for Kailua Beach, but don't go out of your way for it.

I give Island Snow 5 stars for the flavors and tastes of their syrups.  You can really tell that they have superior syrups compared to many other shave ice shops.  I especially like their Mango, Li Hing Mui, Coffee, Lilikoi, and Lychee.  Its also really close to beautiful beaches; a perfect combination!

I guess this is the best place to get shave ice in the Windward district not the best of the best on the isle ,but sufficient none the less. After a hot day on the beach and the thoughts of driving back into town.... I occasionally stop by this place to cool off before heading home.

it will curb your shave ice fix.  you may need more shortly after but it will do.  the ice here seems to be a little more frozen than waiola or matsumoto's.  i'm just not a fan of the "snowcone" set up.  definitely pay the extra 25 cents for the to go cup to prevent any messes and definitely get the snow cap - you won't be disappointed.

The shave ice here is second to none (okay, maybe to Waioli, but definitely not to Matsumoto's in Haleiwa - their shave ice flavors are sickeningly sweet and taste like medicine). True, the ice is not as fine as Waioli, but the flavors are great - not too sweet. After an afternoon at Kailua Beach, nothing tastes better than Island Snow Shave Ice.
