I would most likely have given 4.5 stars.  But, rounded up... I have had breakfast, lunch and gone shopping here.  the breakfast bar is legit.  I had some kind of egg empanada.  It was buttery, flakey and hit the spot.  The grocery shopping is pretty good if you need some natural odds and ends.  Obviously, pricey...but that's what you get for organic.  As for lunch, I had a teriyaki salmon sandwich.  I was pretty stoked on this as well.

Big bonus half star for Island Naturals: When all the locals close their shops for Holiday, Island Naturals is still open to grab a sand-o.

Their chai tea, their sushi, their deli, they're everything.  This is the gathering place for Hilo denizens, and it should be yours too.  Don't forget to stock up here for the trek up to the Volcano or anywhere else you may be going out of town.  Because once you're out of town...you're out of luck for anything delicious to eat.

It's good to know that a place like this exists in Hilo. We stop by every time we're in town. This is definately a place for progressive health conscious people, which is a nice departure from typical supermarkets nearby. Prices are about what you'd expect from this kind of place.

Awesome deli sandwiches! They make everything fresh. If you don't know the ropes just 1) take a piece of paper from their counter that lists the different types of bread, meats (or non-meat), vegetables & other toppings, sauces, seasoning, & cheese. 2) check what you want. Certain items or extra items will add 50 cents or $1.00. 3) Hand it to your sandwich maker. 4) Browse the rest of the store for about 20 minutes cause that's about how long your sandwich will take cause they don't pre-cut anything, which is good for freshness, but not if you're short on time.

The rest of the store is pretty cool. About typical for a store that focuses on healthy stuff. Their wine selection is very good, much better than you will ever find at Longs or KTA.

Tip: If you're planning a day out & want sandwiches, what you can do is take some forms with you & fill them out at home, then take them when you're ready to get something.

My favorite little gem in Hilo!

I always find myself here... while living on the island and now a visitor.

I'm a huge fan of their deli sandwich! They make it fresh... your way! I usually get the honey roasted turkey, with Dijon mayo mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions, sprouts, avocado, provolone cheese on foccacia bread! (^_^) yummy! I also like their spinach artichoke dip and eat it with the soy bean corn chips they sell in the isle! My mom and grandma is a fan of their hot table... which they serve all sorts of tasty foods from salads to main dishes. I love their peanut butter chocolate vegan bar! OMG! heaven. With all of this... I wash it down with a Hansen soda! My mom gets organic doggie treats for her yorkies here too.

    Ask for a punch card!

    All natural products/organic...
    + beauty products
    + fresh fruits and veggies
    + fish
+ food products deli and hot table
    + doggie products.

This is your one stop shop for all your "All natural" needs. Come here for lunch!
Private parking lot that is shared with other businesses. Outdoor seating.

    I'm a forever a fan!

I wish there was a Island Naturals in L.A!

This place is awesome! It has more organic, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan items than just about anywhere else I've ever been. It reminded me of some of the markets in Santa Cruz or Berkley.

The prices aren't too bad either. The staff is very friendly as well! All in all, this place gets two thumbs up!

A Hawaiian wannabe version of Whole Foods. It has a nice selection of goods and natural foods you don't see in a typical chain like Foodland. Convenient place to grab a sandwich, take out food, or some snacks before you make the drive up to Kileauea. I did try the veggie sushi but it was rather nasty since the rice was so mushy.

Bottom line: Convenient location and decent selection but what I tried was not so great.

My friend that I was visiting on the island stopped here for a few essentials before we headed to the other side of the island for a few days.  We grabbed some lunch at the salad/hot bar and it was delicious.  Great health food store with a lot of great products.

I somehow end up here almost every day in between classes and work.  Decent prices on most things for the island.  Lots of local products and vegan options.

Avoid going between 11 and 1 on weekdays if you can, the lines can be long due to lunchers.

I wouldnt really call it a restaurant, its more of (well it is) a market; a healthfood store. They have great brands, with quality foods, and you really cant go wrong. Sometimes they dont have some of the foods you want, but normally they carry alot of varieties.

However, you can eat there. there is a salad bar, a hot bar, and a counter that makes juices, smoothies and milkshakes. At the salad bar, they have regulars, along with olives, avocado slices, etc. At the hot bar however, i think that the best food is the meatloaf. It is the best meatloaf i have tasted of course, some days its better than others.

Basically, its a great place to eat and shop. (their greek pasta salad is excellent too.) But can get a little pricey at times.

This small health food store has a prepared section; sandwich, bakery and smoothie bar in back; small meat & cheese section; and a decent salad bar. This was a nice little spot to stop for picnic goodies for a beach excursion.

I freaking love this place! The food is so fresh and delicious and at decent prices considering it's health food in Hawai'i. The very best part of the whole place is the desserts. I cannot love on the lilikoi mousse and lilikoi mousse cake enough. I had it for my last birthday and I am still in fantasyland. Also very nice folks who work there. All around great!

Pricey but a very good selection of fresh and healthy foods. It's like Whole Foods. I visit Island Naturals almost every visit to Hilo, but this time, it's in a new, shiny location that's bigger than their last. They now have a full service deli and hot prepared foods. They still have a large selection of natural products and supplements. A big plus is the friendly staff. It has all those hard to find exotic items one might need. It's a jewel of a place in Hilo.

Best damn organic health food store I've ever been in!  I really wish they had something like this by my house.  The deli foods in the back were just heavenly and their ice cream shakes were fantastic.  It just goes to show you that organic and healthy can be delicious at the same time.

I was about to review an organic store on Oahu and came to realize that, wait!, there is an awesome market with a deli in Hilo! I love this place. I ate lunch here for three days straight. I love their sandwiches as you can choose what you want on it as well as their hot food section. I loved their veggie lasagna. I think I ate it twice in a week. Anyways this place is great. And like I said in some of my other Hilo reviews, there are not much places here so if you find an awesome one you SCORE! Nice store, friendly staff, and fresh food!

This is where I do most of my shopping. The store is well organized, and the new location in Hilo Shopping Center is nice and big with plenty of parking. Prices are a little high, but they do offer discounts on various products several times a month, as well as student discount on Sunday. Lots of bulk stuff... dry goods, spices, oils, nut butter, and just recently soaps & lotion. Decent selection of local produce, meat/fish, breads, and other products. The deli has sandwiches, salads, and hot items - their veggie lasagna is the best!!! - and there are several tables outside. Most of the staff is great and really helpful, but there are a few cashiers I avoid due to past unpleasantness.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. Where else can you get vegetarian sushi, vegan and gourmet deli sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, wheatgrass, salads, tofu poke, lilikoi haupia, vegan pastries and candies, a good cheese selection, free-range meat and chicken, fish, wine and beer, fresh produce, icecream, local favorites, unique gifts, health products, magazines, Thai food and a good selection of healthy grocery items???? Yes, that's a lot of stuff isn't it!!! You can find all of this and more at Island Naturals. It is seriously like a mini-whole foods, but the quality is even better. It's a great place to eat lunch or breakfast, or simply to sit down with friends and talk over a delicious, tropical juice or smoothie.

I'm only going to review the cupcakes.  I usually get the chocolate cupcake/vanilla icing combo.  The cake part of it is fairly dry and uninspired but the frosting more than makes up for it!  They come cold, so need an hour or so to be perfect for consumption.  If you can't wait, they're still good!

You can get whole-foods-style groceries here, sure. But the real reason to come here is for pure entertainment value. In a small town with few entertainment options, this grocery store has some of the best people-watching I've had the pleasure to witness in years. Rastafarians, nudists, 60's hippies, mud hippies, survivalists, they're all here and hangin' out together in harmony. Where else does this happen? Where else can you get this kind of entertainment and stock up on supplies in one easy stop?
