Well, at least they got the atmosphere right! The is awesome, with bamboo chairs/tables and huge palm fronds wafting around from the ceiling. Problem is: they forget that tropical islands are warm. The place is freezing, and I found it hard to focus after a while because of it.
The good: there's wireless, and they were playing 106.7 (super '60s and '70s!). The bad: the coffee. It was the most lukewarm coffee ever, and my mocha tasted void of chocolate. I got the feeling---since they serve a lot of foods as well as coffee---that they don't take their espresso as seriously as other places do.
The bright side: Island Joe's will be very happy to take the meat out of their various grilled sandwhiches to make you a tasty vegetarian grilled cheese sandwhich. (They use decent quality ingredients, and the grilled swiss on rye is delicious.)
The dark side: They'll still charge you the same price for the sandwhich, even without its most expensive component. And so they lose a star.
The Tempura-battered hearts of palm wins points for creativity, too. Overall, a tasty place for a quick lunch or dinner, and the Carribean food is a nice change from the usual options of burrito or pizza.
