I was so sad to find Island Boy closed down. They had the best mahi mahi burger. Nothing too greasy.
I met the owner once at the annual PIFA event. He was really chill.
Nuts!

I love Island Boy. Not the best service, but the food is the best Hawaiian BBQ I've had on the mainland. The Kahlua Pig is their best dish, and be sure to pour Hawaiian chili water all over that stuff. Puts Ono and L&L to shame. I wish they had more locations.

This used to be the only place to get Hawaiian-style ribs in the Sorrento Valley area. They now have an L&L down the street, but I'd still much rather go to Island Boy. The food just tastes fresher in my opinion. Also, you can call in and pick up your order. If you're lucky, you'll get one of the short-term parking spots in front of the restaurant to pick up your order. Otherwise, parking is at a premium here.
When I've worked in Sorrento Valley, I enjoyed being able to go to lunch at Island Boy. It's nestled in a little mini-plaza and is a must go-to place for tech workers in the area. The food is tasty with the option of big or small portions: you can get something like terriyaki chicken, a salad or two of your choice, rice and luppia. Yum. Plus, they have this sweet red sauce that is fantastic. I may have to make a trek back down here one day.
