This review is for late night eatout, especially on a weekend when you are soo drunk and suffering from the usual after-party craving to hog on anything before crashing on the bed! The best bet for the Sunset is right here!!

A slice of heavenly pizza! Hot slice filled with toppings, grease dripping but WhoTF cares!  The combo, pepperoni, veggie , pesto, mushroom n cheese - all are great, with an extra help of parm n chilli flakes on top!!  And maybe more cold beer??

    Pros :
    1. Hot slices filled with toppings
    2. Open till 3am on weekends!
    3. Very quick service
    4. Cheap cheap cheap! just $4 a slice!!

Go back home happy wasted to be back next weekend again!!

Irving Pizza admirably fills the desperate void that often springs up past normal dinner times.

Does Irving Pizza offer a great pie?  By no means.  Grease freely flows from each slice of the combo; the amount of salt on the each slice is probably an ancient civilization's fortune; and the toppings are anything but fresh.  Moreover, the seats are dingy, the tables are tiny, and loud drunks freely flow in and out of the place.

However, the magical combination of a slice and the dark of night makes Irving Pizza palatable.  Though severely processed, the toppings are plentiful; the crust is crispy and resistant to sogginess; and the price of each large slice is fair (do use the Scoutmob discount on an x-large).

My return to Irving Pizza is inevitable.

It's New Year's Eve and the clocks ticking.  Haven't eaten since early that afternoon and everything was closing up or already closed; what's left that's open?  A bar we passed with an already half drunken crowd outside and this place, Irving Pizza.  Way to bring in the New Year with some greasy pizza!

I elected on the combination slice.  Their pizzas are of the thinner crusted variety, and like the usual routine with places that sell by the slice, they pop the pizza into an oven for two magical minutes and presto.  Pizza's ready.  Maybe it was the occasion or timing, but the number of different slices sold on the spot was limited.  Besides the slices sitting there waiting to be bought like puppies at a pet store, they also have an assortment of different specialty pizzas they make fresh.  Some of them looked interesting, but given the moment it wasn't a choice.

Side note to start here, if you're vertically challenged like my Bun, the counter might be a little high from my recollection.  I went to pay and they handed the pizza to Bun.  Let's say, she was close to having to jump ball for it.  I had a laugh out of it, not so much on her end.  My first bite indicated a sound crispiness which lead to a fair assumption to say, the oven was working.  It had a reasonable amount of toppings and was a good size.  My serving had more cheese than expected, but I'm throwing that into the case of random sampling.

For a hangout spot, it's not the most recommended.  The limited televisions aren't positioned in the best angles and the seating is a little run down.  When it comes to pizza locations like these, it's just fast food; loads of choices, but not a lot of deviation from taste.  Compared to its neighborhood peers, I'd say it's on par.  Even though you'll pay a few quarters more than the usual for a slice, the thin crust pizza at Irving Pizza isn't bad.  For a convenient and quick bite, it's all right.

My 5-year-old son, normally composed,  threw a tantrum the other night when I promised him to have Irving Pizza. They had electrical problem, so didn't have pizza.  My kids love Irving Pizza. My son cried so hard that the storeowner promised him free pizza if we went back the next day. I have to say it is the BEST so far in the City. After having pizza in Brooklyn, NY, Irving Pizza is the one that comes closest to a genuine piece of NY pizza!!

So it's 11:30 PM and we just missed the window of our favourite Indian pizza place and we're searching for a vegetarian option. This is the spot that still delivers at that time. Quite the save that night.

Anyhow the pizza is good -- very tasty which just the right blend of sauce, dough, and veggies on top. This will definitely be a staple for late night pizza or dinner saves.

We order either a small or medium whole pizza, not by the slice.  They've delivered to our home in less than 45 minutes.  Out of the numerous times we've ordered from there, there has only been 1 mistake and another pizza was sent.

Welcome to the limited-time, best deal in town is the Scoutmob (50% off coupon) at Irving's Pizza.  We got a small combination pizza for eight bucks and some change!!! I have had a lot of pizza in my life, from New York to CA so it is pretty hard to break into the 4- 5-er ranges for me.  Iriving's pizza is the joint if you want classic tasting pizza.  There are no "bells and whistles" so to speak, despite the many interesting types of pizzas that they offer.  For the price, it was good, but I'm not so sure that I would go back, full price.  Well, the Scoutmoub coupon lasts till 4/2012 so who knows? =D

I just got home from work super-late and realized at 12:30 AM that I needed to eat dinner.  Yelp said that this was where to go that was still open.  Since I had this as sober pizza, three stars.  If I'd had it after drinking, it'd have been four stars.

I think their pizza is just fine. But its really the rest of the menu I like.

Pretty much anything that Irving Pizza deep fries, is good.

    The buffalo wings rock!
The chicken sandwich - a guilty pleasure.
Fish and chips - at 2am hell yes!

Plus you can grab a beer there which is a pretty great way to end a night out.

I never crave to come here, but I'm always down if someone else wants pizza.  This is one of my favorite by the slice joints!
With Scoutmob's recent 50% off deal, $2 a slice is super legit.  YES the pizza is greasy, YES it's a fat slice, YES slap a ton of parm and peppa flakes on it, YES get a second slice!
Delicious whether you're sober or not!  There's also a good handful of beers on tap!  Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

If it is 2am and you are heading home and you live in the inner sunset or have to pass the inner sunset to get home...oh and you craving pizza. This is your place. They sell by the slice. Nothing too crazy. You have your cheese, pepperoni, combo, and maybe another something fancy shmancy. The pizza is very decent and hits the spot. This place has been around since I was teenager (so not telling you how old I am) and I can testify they are consistent!

Oh and at 2am...praking is def NOT an issue :)

    This place is so delicious!

I was kinda sorta but not really in a rush to get to Golden Gate Park for Outside Lands, but at the same time, didn't want to spend money on park food, so I stopped here and bought a slice of vegetarian pizza.

It was sooo good!  It had the perfect amount of veggies, cheese, and deliciousness.  I had to ask for extra olives, so they took my pizza to the back and melted the olives into the cheese.  YUM.

They also serve beer here for pretty cheap too. :)

Hands down best drunk pizza in SF.

Every time I walk past this place, the smell sucks me in and makes me order a huge Veggie slice, complete with roasted garlic on top.

Once I ordered a sandwich here... I wasn't so impressed, so my advice is stick to the pizza.

Also good to know, they have some great beers on tap that are worth trying out!

Great slices when after a long night out, not so great when sober ( I feel the pizzas smell a bit different, I don't like it but I'm sure some people do). Overall though its good pizza. They have some appetizers - I ordered the garlic cheese bread once and it wasn't that good. I'd definitely come here on the late night to eat but not in other situations.

This place is great -- their pizza is always really good and their slices are ginormous! They've got a really great selection of pizzas ready to be served by the slice, but have a wide variety of other items on the menu.

They've also got a really good selection of beers! More so than other places I feel. And if you're here with some friends and don't want to spend a lot of money, you can always order a slice and and split an $8 pitcher. Gotta love that!

Sadly this place is overshadowed by the Taco Shop across the street, but Irving Pizza gets a lot of the overflow from people who couldn't grab a seat at the Taco Shop to watch the game. I usually just pick to come here first -- I'm usually always guarenteed a comfortable seats to watch my Giants on TV :)

If you're looking for a place to grab a pizza(s), drink a cold beer, and watch some sports, this is it!

I've only been here once and the pizza was amazing!  Everything is prepared fresh right before your eyes and they serve up some HUGE slices.  Prices are reasonable as well.

My only pet peeve was the speed of service.  To be fair, there was only one person working.

I've been spending an inordinate amount of time in the sunset recently. I was at a party where they ordered pizza from here but I didn't partake. Two days later my friend suggests this place. Assuming it must be good, I agreed.

The pizza was incredibly average. It looks like it would taste awesome, considering the amount of toppings but I had to drown it in parm and red pepper flakes. They also only have two containers of each so you have to ask random tables if you can borrow it from them haha.

My friend and I both got the veggie slice except I got the last one and he had to wait a good while before another veggie pizza came out. The portion is really good though and I'm sure it would taste amazing if you were drunk. It just wasn't doing it for me.

Service was okay. Bathroom was kind of gross. Oh and there was the nicest old man working in the kitchen (which you have to bypass to get to the bathroom)

Scratch that, maybe you'll get delivery, maybe not.

This joker of a delivery driver calls my cellphone from the street (we live in an apt building) and says that if we want our pizza, we're going to have to go and meet him on the street.  WTF?  Said he won't bring it to our apartment.

    That's a new one.

We have a key pad (standard) for which delivery people will find our names and ring the apartment (also standard) so we can buzz them in for door delivery (again, standard).

He said he'd gone far enough, but did manage to irritate a few neighbors pushing random buttons on the pad.

Yep, had to go down to the street to get our pies.  What a putz.

I won't ever say no to a slice of pizza pie!  :-)

We were in the area and decided to pop in on a whim for a quickie pizza fix.  Thin crusted pizza pies on display in windows in a cozy space with minimal decor/seating and flatscreen turned towards ESPN.  Yay!

At first glance, the pies in the windows looked like they'd been sitting out for awhile and I was skeptical.... Goes to show, never judge a book by it's cover.  A good pie should still taste good when heated up.  Once they popped our pepperoni slices in the oven and heated them up, they came out as hot, poppin' yummy slices!  I loved how their pepperoni had a spicy kick, the melted cheese was gooey and yum and this slice had just the right amount of grease and sauce.   If you're not wiping off the grease with a napkin, it's not real pepperoni.  :-)

Score also for the outside seating, nice workers and the fact that they have several beers on draft.  Hit the spot!

Good food. HORRIBLE delivery guys. One of them calls from down the street ( I live in a perfectly accessibe house btw), makes you wait at the door (this has happened 3 times) and then literally tries to run away with your change. The last time I ordered from them he delivered the wrong pizza and I called in and no one fixed it. When I called the next day they told me, "That sucks."
    NEVER AGAIN.

Called to order a large half veggie, half Hawaiian pizza to-go for some evening bonding time with the potential future roomies. We also got a 9-piece chicken wing order.

When we walked down to pick it up, our order was still warm and ready for us! We also got some anchovies on the side and plenty of red pepper flakes.

Inside, it seemed like a lot of people were doing the same and waiting for pizzas they had ordered to-go.

We took it back to the apartment and dove in. It was a solid pizza. Sturdy crust, not overly greasy, and plenty of veggies! It was comparable to the gourmet veggie over at Round Table, minus the excessive salt.

One piece filled me up without being too full. Good to know there's a reliable pizza place in the area!

I don't come here often for one reason alone: the overwhelming smell of the place. C'mon, air it out a bit.

You'll walk out of this place feeling assaulted by greasy kitchen exhaust and will need to dry clean your clothes to get rid of the cheesy smell.

But OK, their whole cut potato fries are pretty awesome.

Pretty good pizza. And I've nothing against Russian folk music loudly playing in the kitchen 10 feet from the tables. . . usually.  However, might be a good idea, when you have two nice, big tv's showing the 49ers play for their first probable playoff berth in many San Franciscan's adult lives, and EVERYONE in the place is watching the game, to turn down the Russian folk music and turn up the game.  Just a friendly suggestion.  Cheers.

Ate pizza here since I was in elementary school. Its changed since then but the pizza is still great. If you are a big fan of thin crust and classic pizzas this is the place to go. Wow, people are really divided over this place; most seem to love or berate it. I'm in the love it camp.

They are open late. Late late late - Thank you!!! My review is based solely on their 'by the slice' pizza, and I usually stop by late at night after a show, drinking, etc.

It's not gourmet pizza. It can't be healthy - check out that grease!

But damn it's good. When I get one slice I typically crave more. I've gotten two slices and that's a bit much, unless I'm pretty hungry. I recall not liking their pesto as much, but I'm a big fan of their veggie, pepperoni, and just plain cheese.

Several of these reviews point out the high cost of the slices, but you know what, they're fairly big slices. I actually have no issue with the quantity and quality I get for the price. There are some other places I can think of where I pay less and get less, and a lot less satisfaction. I'll pay for some satisfaction.

Before judging so quickly based on the average stars.. click on the "Elite" tap of the reviews, and you'll notice the majority of us that reviewed  Irving Pizza gave them a positive review. That doesn't go with saying that those who aren't Elite do not know how to review without a bias.. but some of the reviews I'm reading are truly disappointing, and I'm speaking about them personally.

When I'm traveling in the sunset, I can't help but to grab a slice of combo here. I guess everyone prefers their own style of pizza, to me.. if it taste good it taste good. I have no clue what Chicago style, or what style is. In fact, I don't really care what style it is.. it's pizza and good!

Anyways, whatever style this actually is.. their crust is thinner than the average and it's crunchy. I can literally hold it up and eat it rather than something soggy you can get at Costco's is also good).

They always toast the pizza when you order by slice so that way it's crispy and hot. I must say that every time I've eaten their ever since H.S, I was ALWAYS satisfied. To me this isn't the average pizza joint like Domino's or Round Table, it's unique. If you were to compare with well known joints, I'd say Pizza My Heart would come close, but I'd take Irving Pizza over them.

The people their are a hit and miss sometimes, but usually they're kind asking you how's your day, etc etc the typical small talk. Small talk is always better than NO talk.

Not good. Maybe if I was drunk and had this in the middle of the night I would have enjoyed it more. However, that was not the case. The dough was crappy, it was tasteless and too thick. The cheese was the worse cheese ever, thin and tasteless. The sauce, pepperoni and mushroom was ick. Honestly all the other chain pizzas like domino's and pizza hut are way better

For anyone who says this is "thin" crust like NYC, you've clearly never been to NYC, or you've had the crappiest pizza there, which isn't possible because even that is better than here.

My wife and I ordered pizza from here last night.

We had a medium cheese and didn't specify any further.

The pizza came quickly and the ordering process was fine.

Unfortunately, that was the last of the pleasant part of the night.

The pizza was way too thick for NY style pizza.  That's fine, I know that I'm in Cali.

My wife felt that the sauce was tasteless.  I would have preferred it to have been tasteless.  In fact, I think it was bad.  The sauce was bad, the cheese was bad, the whole thing was bad.  As hungry as I was, I couldn't finish one  whole slice.

If we had just left it at that, I would have given it maybe 2 stars, but we didn't.

My wife woke up in the middle of the night sick.  Yes, the cheese pizza had made her sick.  That's not good to hear.

We won't be going back, nor do we understand why people like this crap.  Go get some good pizza folks.

My boyfriend and I are a fan of Irving Pizza's pizza -- medium crust with a good amount of cheese -- but Irving's delivery drivers are the absolute worst. On several occasions (at least three), our pizza has been delivered 1.25 to 2 hours after we placed our order. Yeah, that's right: TWO hours. I don't know what happened to the days of 30 minute delivery, but two hours is ridiculous.

Bottom line: if you don't mind waiting, order. If you'd like to eat in a timely manner, Irving is not your joint.

pizza is a great italian dish that i discovered not too long ago. i was sick of dating and girls so i decided to dial up some pizza delivery service in my own home. that's where irving's pizza came in. well, an hour after i called is when they came in, but not into my good graces. i was starving my butt off and waiting forever for some 'hospitaliano' but my delivery boy must have been playing around on his razr phone because it was cold and congealed. i had a couple of slicings and was sick, so i gave the rest to my fat roommate Humphrey.

now i'm perturbed and reconsidering making Domino's my go-to for italian.
