13 reviews for Irvine Marriott
We had a company event here. The service was great. The food was actually fabulous, especially since it was hotel catering. The staff very friendly and helpful.
The pool was great, the gym looked good, but didn't use it. The outdoor fireplace was perfect to warm up at.
The room was average to small. The bed was o.k., but my hubby wound up having to put pillows against his back to keep him from rolling to the center dip in the bed. The pillows were great. Very luxurious.
$15 for parking, $20 for Valet. No free Wi-Fi, Movies were pricey, but I did get to finally see the Hangover. No Mini Fridge. Pretty Holiday Inn Express feel for a Marriott. But not bad, for sure.
Stayed at this hotel when attending a concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater nearby. Since it was the host hotel, there was a free shuttle, which was very handy. Another reviewer noted expecting free wi-fi for the room price, but it's my experience that at these types of hotels that fancy themselves to be "higher class" they charge you up for everything! This is a perfect example. Please, if I am paying $150 a night, wi-fi should be free. It's really no extra expense to them, and it makes guests feel great to get that as a perk. If you get free wi-fi at any Comfort Inn, why not at a nice Marriott. That has never made any sense to me. I think they are catering to the business traveler (like the Courtyards do) where people on a corporate card don't have to care about all the nickel and diming.
The pool was nice, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They really came through with some late-night faxing and email I had to get done, even before I had arrived! The room wasn't huge, but it was clean, with a big flat screen TV. I really like the product line in the bathroom,as well, given out at Marriott's Residence Inn chain also. Great beds, too.

Are you serious? Four and five stars people?? I guess I am used to quality hotels. $175 a night (taxes included), and well more like a Holiday Inn.
The Hampton Inn is nicer.
Here's a list of what they don't have that I am used to getting:
* NO room safe
*NO free Wi-Fi (you can pay for a lousy connection for $12.95 from 12-12pm)
*NO refrigerator (or wet bar)
* NO Bathrobe
*NO shower cap
*NO sewing kit
*NO continental breakfast
The room service food is horrible and it's the same food that you order from the martini and Champions sports bar in the hotel. My thai chicken lettuce wrap had a hair in it and consisted of 3 pieces of butter lettuce topped by a mound of beansprouts and peanuts. I dug for chicken to there was next to none.
They had a Sushi bar. Out of the 4 days I was there, it appeared closed.
The wallpaper was peeling and weathered throughout the place reminiscent of the bates motel. The elevators were rickety, dented and seemed like they were about to come crashing down at any moment. They also had lighting in them that felt like i was under a heat lamp, they were so bright I had to wear sunglasses.
The bathrooms were cramped with a tub size suitable for a midget
They get one star for the comfy beds, that's about it. The beds were the ONLY thing halfway decent about this place.
The plasma was pay per view everything almost, the remote you had to jump on the bed at a certain angle to get it to work.
After the maid came on the first day the carpet was soaking wet next to the bed, so when we went in our socks to sit on the bed our feet kept getting soaked. No one ventured to smell it for fear of the worst. The front desk staff were extremely unaccommodating.
One of our room keys did not work. We found out the hard way because my room-y was at the bar, I went to go to bed already. The room-y key didn't work. The hotel refused to tell her if she was trying the right room, she went and tried her key in all the doors, a big black half naked guy came out trying to help her, mind you it was midnight. The hotel would only call and wake up my boss who was really pissed. The boss had to tell her the room number. Even though MY name was on the room. WTF?? She gave them my name.
EPIC FAIL on this place. I would try the Crown Plaza a stones throw away next time, at least they had free wi-fi. I know I could kinda of hop on it, it was a low signal.

Boring and dull, but clean. Dinged a star for never sending me my favorite green shirt back!
I'm usually never disappointed with Marriott.
So for this particular location, I'll rate the following:
Service: 5 stars and everyone greeted you even though they weren't helping you.
Beds: I ended up having the best sound sleep in their cushiony beds and pillows. I.don't.want.to.wake.up.
Food: The breakfast buffet I heard wasn't worth it, so we ordered off the menu. Yogurt parfait. Yum. They also have a sports bar, regular bar, sushi restaurant, and Starbucks.
Gym: Hardly any one was there the time I used it. Loved the individual tvs and saw some earphones available. Some of their treadmills weren't working properly. I was on an incline and couldn't get back down! Panting, going to collapse, help!
Pool: Mostly outdoor/part indoor. Looked so inviting and given that it was empty at night, it was a shame I didn't have time to use it.
Parking: What is it, like $15/day? Absurd. Given that there is so much space in Irvine and their parking lot is NEVER crowded. And after you check out, you're charged per hour.
Location: Sucks. Great if you have business in the area, but there is NOTHING within walking distance. And even though the freeway is nearby, the cross street with Von Karman was really confusing as my GPS died on me and I was going around in circles. =(
So maybe I'm being picky, but getting a great deal on rates, I am happy with this Marriott. As always.

Great Beds with orgasmic pillows, the pillows feel so great that if I didn't have my beautiful lady friend visiting I would have probably humped the pillow like I was 5 again.
Awesome balcony view to enjoy my beer.
Great quick room service that brings you stiff mixed drinks,
A typical full bar of "older men tricks" that buy you wonderful shots of Tequila.
$20 for valet hmmm it really isn't that serious is it???
Also whats up with having a van take you to the airport every 30 minutes, I want it to take me when my lush ass gets down there. I don't want to sit around and wait while I hear old ladies talk about teas and crumpets.

Pretty nice hotel that is very convenient if flying into John Wayne Airport. Nice gym, pool, and attractions. One surprise was the $25 rebate from the Irvine CVB website after booking 2 nights!
How can you be near an airport and ration out your shuttle pick-ups? I called the hotel to let them know that I'm at the baggage claim and that I had requested a pick-up. I get the following response: "Well our driver comes by there every 30 minutes or so.... make sure you're outside so you don't miss him...". Most hotels would just radio the driver and tell him to go by the terminal and pick people up, but... not this Marriott. Long story short, the shuttle driver shows up, speeding through the terminal; I had to step onto the street and waive at him until he finally realized that he had people to pick-up. The hotel was nice, the A/C was a bit on the loud side, but at least it worked. The staff at the desk was polite, and the rooms were newly renovated; not a bad property overall... just make sure you allow for some time if you're taking their shuttle.

This isn't the nicest Marriott, but it is decent.
I stayed in a King-bed room. The best part about this room was definitely the comfy bed.
Otherwise, the room was ok; HDTV and a balcony. Unfortunately the bathroom was poorly designed and tiny. The bathtub was very shallow, obviously made just for show.
The layouts were horrid. Too many print patterns everywhere that contrasted with other print patterns. Imagine a wall with continuous leaf-dots that transitions harshly with different colored leaf-dot carpet.
Eww.
Also, the staff wasn't too welcoming.
And I am pretty pissed about having to pay 14 to self park in a half empty lot, but what else could I have done?

A stone's throw away from SNA, parking was super expensive! However comfortable sleeping quarters, inhouse Starbucks, full bar and sushi restaurant. We were lucky enough to be there on a work trip while a convention was being held nearby. For a Tuesday night, it was pretty packed. Plenty of DRUNK working professionals in habited the lobby floor. Which I thought was hilarious. Who knew?? A watering hole mecca for the traveling pofessional.
I stayed here for a night courtesty of American Airlines since my flight got canceled due to a mechanical problem.
The guy at the front desk was really nice and he gave me a king sized bed. When I got off to my floor, I really wasn't expecting anything, but the hallways were nice. I've been to a few nice hotels where the lobby was really swank but once you get to a floor with rooms, it's obvious that not much effort was expended to make the hallways look nice.
Anyways. . .
The room was pretty cool and the bathroom had name brand shampoo and conditioner. Hey, it's the little things that make me happy folks. The bed was comfortable. At first, I thought it was too soft, but you sort of get enveloped into it.
Even though I had to get up early to catch the 5am shuttle to the airport, I wandered around the hotel for a bit, around 10:30 Sunday night, to check it out. The fitness room was pretty cool. Open 24 hours for guests, it had a few weight machines and a few cardio machines, such
as bikes, treadmill, and an elliptical. TVs were all attached to the cardio machines. The room also had headphones and towels available.
On the main floor, an Indian wedding was going on in one of the ballrooms. Music was blasting and I saw that there were still names left of people on a table outside of the ballroom of guests who had yet to show up. I briefly considered changing into something nicer and taking a name to crash the wedding, but realized that I didn't have anything nice enough. Next time, I'll remember to pack a sari for a weekend in the OC.
The shuttle came by early next morning as scheduled and I got to the airport on time.
Overall, nice hotel. I just wish I had more time to take advantage of all it had to offer. Not that I'm saying I want future flights cancelled. That was just a pain.

Pretty nice Marriott hotel that is very convenient if flying into John Wayne Airport. Nice gym, okay pool, onsite Starbucks are pluses. They have free shuttle to/from the airport which is a nice service. One surprise was a very good sushi bar with friendly staff and fresh sushi.
Pretty Standard Marriott. Decent Gym, not bad room. What really stood out for this Marriott is that it had a very nice Concierge Room. Hearty breakfasts indeed.
