The new vet here is a gem. He PM'd me today to say that he was sorry to lose me as a client (I felt like an ass,) and that he had worked in Long Beach before and could recommend a good vet up here if I liked.  Nice, nice, nice. A total stand-up guy, even after being dissed by me.

Dr. Bob sold his practice to a new vet, since he was really over the drive from his place out in Murrieta.  And so, there's a new guy named Dave Driscoll, and my Mom's still taking her pets there. She says the new guy's great.

That said, it's still not Dr. Bob, and with a 25-mile schlep down there with crazy, pissed-off fur balls in the car, I think i'll be looking for a new, local vet...

Original Review:
Dr. Robert Hildreth (affectionately referred to as "Dr. Bob") is the vet of all vets.  We've been taking our pets there for as long as they've been open (10-15 years?) since my Mom lives across the street.  I live in Long Beach now and still drive the 25 miles to have my 2 cats and dog seen by him.  

He's the most compassionate, jolly guy, genuinely interested in the pets and their owners.  We've had a few euthanasias (euthanizings?) over the years, and I just wouldn't go through that with anyone other than Bob.  He has a really special place in his heart for those of us who are prone to animal adoptions from off the streets and from shelters, and will often give discounts for stray spays and neutering.

He also offers this kick-ass boarding service for dogs called his "Doggie Dude Ranch" where he takes dogs out to his ranch in the Murrieta/Temecula area where they have run of the place.  And of course you know you have your vet on site for your dog's stay -- what could be better.  The Dude Ranch runs a little on the pricey side, but the peace of mind that our Maggie Dog is there with Bob is worth almost any price.  She comes back exhausted and freshly washed since they get so filthy running all over the ranch.
