So impressed by this shelter. The dogs can either be inside or outside in their  kennels and you can feed them from the outside from little treat bowls attached to their cages. The staff is friendly and professional.

I think it's obligatory to give any animal shelter that's pro-humane and clean a five star rating. Anything lower, and you're just screwing over the poor little animals.

Anyway, this is the place to adopt not only cats and dogs, but really, animals of all varieties. When I was there several months ago, there was a goat, chickens and a whole team of rabbits waiting for a home. I'm not sure where in Irvine will you find enough yard for a goat, but at least the option is there.

However, simply because this is Irvine does not mean that the animals here are living at the Four Seasons or something. The dogs are still on concrete and the rabbits are still more or less on dirt. However, the dogs get an indoor and outdoor room, and for the most part, zero roommates. Each rabbit has an indoor cage as well as an outdoor pen. There are a surprising amount of non-mutts, like Goldies, chihuahuas, etc. The best part is that if you're visiting, you can feed little bit of jerky/kibble to the doggies. That said, some dogs were so starved for attention that they refused the treats in exchange for just attention.

They do a lot of special events at various places, like Muttropolis and Central Bark.

This is a really nice animal shelter, probably the nicest I've been to. Dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, pigs, even goats, are all spoiled rotten, Orange County style.
Where else could you find an animal shelter where the dogs have their individual cages half indoor, half outdoor, with heater in the winter and air conditioning in the summer? Giant washing machines do their laundy, toys a plenty, and they each have treat bowls attached atop their cages so you can walk by and feed them.
It's a good life for them, but I still can't get over the huge dogs who need room to play outside of their cages. But of course, there are a few different large sized closed off play areas that they rotate the dogs in, so they get some freedom and room to run around during the day.
This place always always has purebred dogs. Blame it on Orange County and the rich people who find their dogs/puppies a nuisance after a short while. I went last weekend to find a giant purebred St. Bernard (Beethoven!) and the sweetest little miniature sheltie. I wanted to take it home, but was one person too late. The cutest ones always go first and are highest in demand, but I've seen an equal share of lovable older dogs find families as well.
The process of adopting is semi-demanding. Dogs are $150 and puppies are $20 more. It requires an interview, all the members in your household must come and meet the dog, paperwork, etc. etc.
Go adopt!!! If not, go check it out anyway and take a dog out for a walk, check out the pigs and goats (not adoptable, they're permanent residents) bunnies, cats. They have everything here. Sometimes they have birds or guinea pigs or hamsters available as well. It's a nice place and they take good care of the animals. You'll be tempted to take one home, I guarantee.
