Love all their beers, love the hole in the wall atmosphere at the one on Dolarway. I like their swag and the whole vibe is great. Now, if they would just buy the train station and turn it into a big brewpub then I would be one happy lady! Perfect place for post-bike ride imbibing.

::::: Top 5 Reasons to stop by Iron Horse :::::
5) Conveniently located in the center of WA state (short drive off of the 90)
4) The clientele are all cool
3) They have cute bartenders
2) The tasting room is chill
1) Their beers are excellent
A slap on my hand for not dropping by Iron Horse sooner! I have heard good things about their beers and have been noticing them on tap at various joints lately--support local breweries, Yo!
I will now try to make it a point to plan trips through E-burg during their hours!
For my first visit (actually 2nd, 1st time I went they were closed!), I was heading TO Seattle, I dropped by with a growler, and ended up buying a second one. I knew the 90 had some bad Spring traffic, so I had planned to go westward via Stevens Pass. One of the customers was nice enough to answer my route questions. I ended up getting to Stevens a couple of hours later (stopped topside to shovel some real and authentic Cascading snow into my ice chest to keep my Iron Horses chilly).
I LOVE the names of their brews! One of the main reasons I stopped by was because of their seasonal: Double Rainbow. I wanted to cry & trip out on it à la: http://www.youtube.com.... Unfortunately, it was all for naught, it was out of season. Some other cool names: Double IPA, 509 Ale, Irish Death, Death Mocha, High Five Hefe, etc.
Their brews are a gang of goot ones. Irish Death (their most popular) is probably one of my favorite. Double IPA is just as memorable. But really you have to try a sampler, or just try 'em all over time. You'll pick your own favorite and you won't regret it.
Oh, I also have to mention how they handled a potentially bad situation. A couple of guys came in to pick up a keg for a wedding, and apparently, their reservation was made for the wrong day. Within a few minutes (and on-the-house beers), they were able to accommodate them and help get those nuptials going. There ya go, Iron Horse--preserving the sanctity of marriage!
The tasting room is small and cozy, and I've managed to find a spot to sit each time. They do have a popcorn machine in the back, too! Can't wait for my next pitstop at Iron Horse. Lemme know if ya wanna meet up there!
And, of course, we all know, "High fives are free!"Listed in: Microbrews Of The East Side

Don't waste your time. Their bottled beer you buy in Seattle is NOT good. The space is also small and the beer from the tap isn't much better.

Terrific beer, friendly staff, and the bathroom is PAST the brewery, meaning you get to walk through the magic on the way! Might be just me, but its really cool to be able to see exactly where the tasty brew you're drinking came from. The tasting room is small but dont be afraid to belly up to the bar, say hi to the neighbors and ask what their favorites are, sample them, and then talk brew with them. There's crafty bits everywhere to marvel at, like the tap tray and catch can that are hand crafted. Perfect for a stop to stretch the legs on a road trip on I-90.

I love the beer here. I have been here a few times, and would probably go back in the future. The beers are very good, the people here are very nice. The only ting which holds them back from a 5 is the fact that they don't have any food on premises. I think they are opening a proper brewpub soon to fix this issue, when I check that out I will update the review.
For now, It's still an excellent place. Anyone interested in Washington State craft beer should probably check this place out. -

Great beers and always worth a stop if you're driving through the Central Washington area. Most local restaurants carry their brews, but they also have a tasting room at the brewery off Prospect St, as well as a tasting room on the main street that runs through town. If you like dark beers or even reds, I recommend the Irish Death, which is well-known favorite of Iron Horse patrons. They offer tastings of all of their beers as well as growlers for a reasonable price.

Another one of my favorite WABL (Washington Association of Beer Lovers) breweries! My friends and I stopped into Iron Horse on our way from Seattle to Yakima on our camping trip this weekend. We had a couple pints and then filled up our growlers with the IPA and honey wheat beers for the weekend.
We loved the beer so much that we stopped in again on Sunday after a rafting trip in Ellensburg. Even though the tasting room is on the smaller side, it's top notch and so are the beers! Be sure to stop here on your way anywhere beyond Ellensburg!Listed in: WABL Favorites, Best WA…, Eat, Drink, and Have Fun…

Good beer...nice bartender...WAY too small of a space. I prefer the micropub.

The only thing wrong with this place is that it is not in my city of residence. Make no mistake, this place is a serious brewery. Hidden among some industrial buildings, the bar area is tiny with room for only about 20 people. None of this matters. What matters is the beer. Selection & quality reign with some killer brew.
Unfortunately we never have time to hang out here as we have the p's located in Yakima that must be visited BUT growlers are our savior! $8 gets you a night of pure happiness. Thank you iron horse, thank you very much.Listed in: Not in Kansas anymore

SO I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY BEEN IN THE BREWERY.
But I was the volunteer assigned to them at Seattle Oktoberfest and go to work hungover because of their beer at least once a week and I just feel like I need to talk about it.
Specifically, the Black IPA. Holy mother of God. I want to have babies with this beer. I will bear its children, I will raise them, I will not complain when the Black IPA leaves me alone and barefoot while it goes on the road to tour and when it tells me that the sex it had with its groupies "was purely out of respect for the fan base" I'll smile and let it back into the house.
This is my favorite beer ever. Hands down. No contest. I tried it at Oktoberfest and currently the only place I can find it at all is Brouwers but that's just around the corner from me so no complaints.
They also make the semi-well known stout called the Irish Death which is almost as delicious as the Black IPA. Pouring it was a bitch - soooo much heavy foam - but it's worth it to drink it.
The brewers are also great, great people and on their website it says that someone is almost always at the brewery so if you want to check it out and you're not coming during open hours, just call ahead and they'll let you in. Clearly they love their customers!
So who wants to go over to Ellensburg with me? -

Their beer is PURE WIN! Never had anything that I didn't like from Iron Horse- there is NO doubt about that!
The brewery wasn't doing tours the day (sunday) we stopped in for a pint while we were road tripping through Eastern Washington... that was a little sad.
The place is small and generally quaint. Server/bartender was a little goofy... but friendly enough. Locals gave the place a great atmosphere and pricing for the beer on tap was generous. Overall a good experience, if I am passing through again I may need to make a pit stop.... :D
I hate to repeat- but their beer... PURE WIN!!!!Listed in: Brewpubs and Beer

I am not what one would call a beer Connoisseur...In fact quite the opposite. I generaly can't stomache anything that is slightly bitter or hoppy in taste so that has always limited me the traditional domestics like bud, mille, coors, corona etc.
BUT, this place has amazing good beer! It has a beer called "Irish Death" that is as dark as guinness but actually tastes amazing! Even my "Beer snob" friends as I like to call them (because they know a ton about beer and all the different types qualities and tastes) love it! It is kind of sweet and has plenty of kick. More than once drinking it I didn't quite realize I was getting messed up before it snuck up on me. :)
They also have my personal favorites High Five Hef, and the light rail! Oneday soon this secret treasure trove of alcohalic delights will be discovered by the masses, until then I will keep preaching them to everyone I meet as the best brewery I know of.
Not to mention the fact that there staff are fun, they do cool events there all the time, and they have a roving trivia tournament that rotates at different bars around Ellensburg bars on Wednesday nights. -

Delicious, Cheap ($3.50 pints, $8 growlers), and right off of I-5. It's a nice little pit stop on the way to/from the Eastside. The only set back is it's small and they don't serve food, but they do allow you to bring in take out or order from various delivery places.

Just made it back to Iron Horse for the first time in well over 2yrs. A lot has changed since then, one being the change in ownership. The brewery was founded by Jim Quilter; a pioneer, and legend in the Northwest brewing scene. I had the pleasure of meeting this jovial, and amazingly friendly man on my first visit, and would call meeting him a highlight in all my brewery visits ever. I was recently saddened to find out he just passed away. He had been brewing at the Ram in U-Village, and I had been excited to get over to try his own personal taps there. Sadly I'll never get the chance to try them. So this 5-star review is in his honor. Though the owners who have been running Iron Horse since he sold it are doing the place justice for sure.
If you're going to try one beer here, Quilter's Irish Death is my highest recommendation. They don't really have a style to label it, but I'd call it a dark Irish Red, or even a Scotch style ale. It's dark, malty-sweet, robust, and incredibly well balanced. Weighing in at 7%ABV, it's dangerously drinkable, so be careful!
All of the other offerings are excellent. We got a couple sample trays, and really couldn't find fault in what we were poured. I'm glad the beers have been showing up in the Seattle area more often. They're a welcome addition to our vast local selection.
The taproom is very cozy. We barely got seats at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. I like the charm of the new taproom, and I'm glad it was added on. Major bonus: Very reasonably priced on site beers. Only $3.50 a pint when I was there, and $7 growler fills. You can't beat that for a product of this quality.
I'll definitely be stopping by as often as I can. Luckily I pass through E-berg several times a year.Listed in: The breweries of Washington

I stopped at this establishment that is purely a brewery with a taproom (aka no food) out of desperation to stop at a brewery during my long voyage through the wasteland that is central Washington. It just may have changed my mind about going to only brewpubs with food...
Located at the end of a cul-de-sac on an industrial/business street, the last thing you'd expect to find is a brewery of superb quality. And yet, that's exactly what's there. A short bar (about 8 stools) stands in front of about six taps of the beer you can see brewing 30 feet away through the open door into the garage. In fact, if you need to use the bathroom, they just send you back there with all the brewing equipment and tell you it's down the hallway on the left. Three tables also line the wall. Everyone is friendly, and everyone is local, coming to enjoy the beer even though there's no food. The waitress was very helpful, and even remembered me when I stopped back in two days later on my way back to Idaho from Seattle.
Absolutely outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed absolutely every beer I tried here and was forced to buy a growler to take to my friend's house in Seattle (which we consumed mere hours later.) The light cream ale meant for Bud drinkers was astoundingly unique and delicious. The red IPA was not unique, but you don't see it often, and you see it well-done even less often. The Irish Death was strong and sweet, I could easily have gotten in trouble with it. But my two selections were the High Five Hefe and the Iron Horse IPA, even though I was EXTREMELY divided over which of the six to get a pint and growler of. The IPA just tasted the best at the time. Full malt character with high levels of hops, and not just bitterness, but aroma and flavoring too. The Hefe was very unique by the presence of ginger in the mix. It made for quite a crisp, refreshing and unique brew. I will stop back here every single time I drive through Ellensburg. -

Sweet spot off the highway with great beer. Do not miss the chance to take a break from the drive on your way to E Wa or if you find yourself in Ellensburg for any other reason. The locals have found this place and provide plenty of character.

Great place to stop for a pint or growler en route to a concert at The Gorge, or any other time. AR and i have stuck mostly to hoppier ales so far, and I haven't found a favorite yet. But, the brown ale and Quilter's Irish Death Stout both were great at first taste. Be aware that they don't have all of their brews on tap all the time, but there are something like eight taps so there'll surely be something for everyone.
There's been a different bartender each time we've been here but all have been smart and sassy. The tasting room is small - 15/20 people - but doesn't feel cramped with high ceiling and spaced-out tables. Whether or not they're doing tours, the bartender will let you walk in back to see and smell the tanks. -

I am really loving the Iron Horse Brewery beer it is really good. My fav is the Brass Ass Brown Ale but the Quilter Irish Death is also good if you like darker beers. So much depth in this local WA beer.

The first time we tried to find this place we were 50 yards away and didn't see it cause the address is a little funky. Went back 3 months latter and was worth the search, they make excellent ales and if you like hops the IPA will not disapoint. Bring an ice chest and you can haul away some growlers!
