Good beer, AMAZING nachos, and exceptional service.
A few friends brought my fiance and I here after shopping and hanging out in Lancaster. We sat at the bar and had a few pints and a 1/2 plate of nachos. It was yummy, and the service was pretty good. I'm from Boston, and it was nice to go to a bar in a nice city that wasn't overly packed, noisy or crowded. I liked the atmosphere a lot and would definitely visit again!!! -

Maybe you feel like 'eating a horse' or maybe you just feel like a little something to get you through the late day until your next true sit down meal, this is the place your looking for.
It's great for large parties, or small parties, if you want to sit on the high tables in the window or spread throughout the restaurant. The waitress I had was exceptional, and if this review was just based on the service she provided, I would be giving this place 5 stars.
I ordered the beet, almond sliver and feta cheese salad and it was exactly what I was hoping for. Deliciously perfectly cooked red beets, buttery cheese crumble and a nice tangy dressing. The thai popcorn chicken was awesome, just the right portion size and the sauce was great, not too spicy and not too sweet, I would definitely recommned this dish for anyone who just wants to eat something satisfying but doesn't want to feel stuffed afterwards.
I appreciated the small sized beer sizes, as I'm not a big beer drinker, but had to sample something since I was in a brewery.
If I see this chain restaurant again in my travels, I definitely know what to expect, and will come eat some good food here. -

The Iron Hill Brewery is an upscale brew pub in Lancaster, Pa. Lancaster has many more good restaurants than a city it's size usually does because of Franklin and Marshall College. The restaurant is decorated in dark woods and is upscale. The waitstaff are earnest, almost to a fault, and a little bit formal. The service is very good. The beers are excellent. The last time that we visited, I tried their root beer, which was awesome. The menu is far ranging, with something for everyone. I often wind up ordering the chicken fajita salad. The grilled chicken breast is well spiced and there are a lot of fresh jalapeno peppers in the salad.
For a good, informal meal in Lancaster, the Iron Hill Brewery is a no-brainer. -

Awesome place.
I'm from San Diego, where we have a ton of hometown microbreweries, and originally from Phoenix, where we have Four Peaks, so I know good brewery and their grub when I see it. This place rocks! I was shocked to find a place like this in Pennsylvania. I could have easily been in Denver, Portland, or San Diego. Great food, great beer. Need I say more? Our server was uber helpful.
I highly recommend this joint. -

Lancaster, PA is a neat little college town and its spirit is very much reflected in this micro-brewery with a spacious interior and multicultural menu. I had the Mediterranean Wrap - hummus, cucumber, roasted red peppers, tomato, studios, feta, and balsamic syrup in a spinach tortilla.
Unfortunately, I don't recall the beer that I had, but it was one of their own and quite good. It was a beautiful, breezy night and we sat outside, enjoying the weather and the meal. Definitely a "go-back" place! -

They get a 5 starts just for service. I had to save my sister's birthday get together because the last restaurant that we thought the reservation was set at, said it was only for 15 people max, and couldn't accommodate any more, because of their was an event at the convention center, and they had to leave their other tables open. There were supposed to be 30 of us.
I called Iron Hill within an hour of when we were supposed to be meeting up for her birthday, they promised we could all sit at tables relatively close to one another, and be served a full meal. We arrived at 6:30, had to wait for a little while for a couple tables to clear, but they were so hospitable, and didn't show any sign of annoyance or frustration to us about fitting us in on such short notice.
The guests in our party were able to go grab a drink at the bar while we waited, which was very nice.
All of my sister's guests were so happy to be able to see each other and everyone enjoyed the food. -

I really wanted to love Iron Hill. I lived in the apartment building just above it for a year, having moved in not a month and a half before my 21st birthday. For lunch on my 21st birthday (unfortunately a Tuesday) I stopped in and got the beer sampler, which is a great deal and a great way to find which beer is for you. That weekend during the real festivities we kicked off the night with a meal and drinks at Iron Hill. My friends who came all the way out from New York loved the atmosphere, enjoyed their meals, and liked the drinks but not the prices so much.
Based on that you might assume I'd have no problem with the place, but you'd be wrong. I've been there a lot over the years, and usually when people have basically had to drag me. The drinks are good enough, but way overpriced. I really like most of their in house beer. However, I did purchase two of their bottled Rauches which were horrific. I had some people over not 15 minutes after purchasing them, and the words "cat piss" popped up in conversation quite a bit.
Their desserts are awesome, I honestly love them, but its not worth going through the main course. Every dish seems to have gone too far with its ingredients, they are simply trying too hard. A perfect example is the guacamole on their turkey burger. I was willing to give it a chance, but in the end I was very disappointed. A lot of their menu can be summarized as having one odd little twist that completely ruins a dish.
Beyond that even simpler orders can be dangerous. I once ordered their fish and chips (a favorite for me at other restaurants) and became incredibly sick before I even left the restaurant and stayed that way for the rest of the night. I tend not to complain about a meal to the servers, but the group I was with demanded my money back. Regardless of only being a short elevator ride from home and saving myself a drive, curling up into a ball on the couch was no fun. If I did have to drive, I'm not sure I could have done so.
I will say that their calamari, particularly the dipping sauce that comes with it, is fantastic. If you're thinking of showing up here maybe get some appetizers and some beer, or show up for dessert, but skip the full meal. And if you're thinking of just grabbing a gin & tonic save your money and get it somewhere else. They are charging for the atmosphere, and it's not really worth it. -

Iron Hill never disappoints.
The Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are perfection. My wife looks forward to the seafood bisque. The mussels were good, but not transcendent.
Last time I was there I tried a special, Beef Tenderloin Schnitzel. The schnitzel was crispy and tender, with a delicious cream sauce. The red cabbage that accompanied the dish was bland, and did not have the sweet and sour character I was hoping for.
Beers are the most hit or miss thing for me at Iron Hill. Most recently I had a dark Belgian that was very nice. I was a little put off by the waitress telling me it was served in a "small glass". I appreciate the effort to protect the ignorant, but...I know that -

Dined on Sunday - very busy for 5 pm. Large groups in the restaurant, perhaps an event at F&M
Got the table nearest the bathroom entrance. Much traffic through this area - almost feels like there should be no table here.
Service- friendly, knowledgeable
Food- no real complaints- good for menu style (.although menu is large)
Beer - constanza always a favorite
Only Minor complaint - we did not finish salads before entrees were delivered, and we were handed our plates. Very "chain" feel.

I was very excited to try this place out, as it was recommend by several locals and people we stayed with at our B&B.
Unfortunately, this place isn't that special. In fact, it's kind of run of the mill.
The beers, brewed onsite, were quite good. The food is typical micro-brew grub. I had the ribs, and there was nothing at all to write home about. The sauce was nothing special, and the side dish was uninspired. Everything we ordered came out safe and bland.
That having been said, the place has a GREAT beer selection and the atmosphere is very fun. Modern industrial meets TGI Fridays is all I could think of.
While the food wasn't bad, it was unremarkable at best. I'm sure that some people may come here more for the atmosphere or the beer selection, so if that's more important to you, you may end up liking it a lot more than I did. -

We tried this place out on a vacation to lancaster this summer, and we were very happy with our experience. Nestled into the area surrounding Franklin & Marshall College, this modern and comfortable restaurant offers a nice option for those looking for casual dining.
The large dining room is comfortable and homey. You can view some of the beer brewing areas so there is a nice industrial vibe to it. The menu is large full of traditional American style faire. It is comfortable family style dining with large plates and plenty of options, even for picky eaters. The highlight of eating here is the beers. We wanted to try a little of everything, so we all shared one of their samplers that included 8 little 3oz beers perfect for tasting, and the option to add on aditional sample sized beers for a small additional cost. We added on a few of the seasonal Octoberfest selections. The beers were really quite impressive, much better than the beers I tried over at Lancaster Brewing Company.
The food was good, not great. It is what you would come to expect from a bar and grill type establishment. The service was fast and friendly, knowledgeable and quick to make suggestions on beers. Would totally recommend when in the area. -

My wife and I went to Lancaster for our Anniversary and ended up at Iron Hill. I love the way the Salmon I had was cooked and my wife enjoyed her chipotle shrimp salad with pineapple. The beer was fresh and tasty and we both loved the excellent peach crisp for dessert.
The service was the best part since our server and everyone was so friendly and took our anniversary picture for us - I know we'll be back -can't recommend them enough.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Abbottstown, PA
I first went to the Iron Hill in West Chester several years ago and when I discovered they'd put one in Lancaster, I was really excited!
I've never gotten bad food here once and I've been here many times. The mashed potatoes are delicious; they come out golden, hot, and rich. Just the way I like them.
Initially, my favorite dish was the Hawaiian spiced ahi tuna, which I got a few years ago in West Chester. Since then, I think they started doing something differently and when I tried it in Lancaster it wasn't so much Hawaii as it was Wasabi. I was a little disappointed that they changed it so much. I've gotten the pizza there and have no complaints about it, I've had the hot wings, again, no complaints. The asian inspired chicken wings are fabulous. I've also had the spring roll platter. For the most part, I enjoy it except for the cheese steak one; that's a little weird.
An entree that I can't forget is the pan roasted chicken over mashed potatoes. The chicken is crispy and juicy and comes with shoe string fried onions and the mashed potatoes are DELICIOUS.
The only major disappointment I have was the salad I got there. I forget how much it was or what it was called but it had crispy prosciutto on it and I LOVE prosciutto so I decided to try it. If there is ONE thing I HATE is spending a lot of money on a salad and getting nothing but iceberg lettuce. Unfortunately, this was nothing but iceberg lettuce. Won't be ordering that again.
Just recently, I decided to have a burger. I think I ordered the brewski, but I can't remember. It had gruyere cheese and a red onion jam on it and was it delicious! The burger is thick and the jam is sweet but served warm. Absolutely loved it.
I've had so much here and I think for how many times I've gone here, the service and food quality is always consistent. The wait staff is always knowledgeable and will give you their honest opinions about the food, which I appreciate. -

I graduated from F&M in '04 and this place opened up a couple of years or so after I left. It seems like a lot of (good) places opened up after I left, but that's just how it goes. To start, I am a fan of brewpubs in general so I was excited to give this place a shot. The decor is really nice - to be honest, this place is more high end than most of the other brewpub type places I have been to. I will break my review up into 2 parts: the food and the beer.
Food
We stopped in for lunch and I was pretty impressed with the menu - very diverse. I would have loved to have tried either the cheesesteak or buffalo chicken egg rolls, but we were only there for lunch and didn't want to overeat. Maybe next time. I decided to go with the Club wrap - it was turkey, ham, veggies and a maple mayo in a spinach wrap. It was almost like a gourmet wrap - very good, one of the better wraps I have ever had. I would definitely recommend. My wife had the crab cake sandwich and she really enjoyed it. You could tell the crab cake was made fresh - never frozen. On my next trip to F&M, I am looking forward to coming here again and giving some other menu items a shot.
Beer
They have 6 beers and different seasonal beers to choose from. I had 2 of the Iron Hill lagers and I also sampled the Ironbound Ale. I really liked the Lager - it was pretty light and refreshing. I will definitely drink it again on future visits. I wasn't as big on the Ironbound Ale - a little too hoppy for my taste but the waitress did say it was pretty popular. Oh well, we all have our tastes. I will definitely be sampling their different house beers on my next visit.
This is a great place and I was very impressed. Good food and good beer - a winning combination. I head back to F&M at least once a year and this place will definitely become one of my regular stops. -

I got the sweet potato fries, and they were pretty good. You get a excellent selection of dipping sauces, which I felt was what made the meal. But note that they're less fries shaped, and more potato wedged shape. I would have given the place 4 stars for that.
But then I got my mushroom pizza, which was just okay. I used the dipping sauces to spice it up. I totally wasn't feeling the pizza and wished I got something else. -

I have been eating at Iron Hill quite often over the last two years and can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal here (I will risk jinxing myself)
Two of our staples when it comes to appetizers are the cheese steak egg rolls and the sweet potato fries. I know that the concept of a cheese steak egg roll sounds pretty gross. I will admit that these were my exact thoughts at first. However, this dish has definitely moved into my guilty food pleasure category. Really good Philly cheese steak, wiz and all enveloped in a crunchy wrapper (served with ketchup to add that extra tang and lower the temperature when you cant wait) The sweet potato fries while delicious on their own with the perfect sprinkling of sea salt end up being the best vehicle to channel the three dipping sauces to your mouth. The vanilla bourbon is mild and sweet, while the habanero lime is on the opposite end of the spectrum. The smoked paprika aioli sits right smack between the other two. The sauces compliment each other perfectly.
Entrees include Burgers and Pizzas of which the Brasserie Burger with the onion jam and Gruyere and the Lejon pizza with the rock shrimp are my favorites. Comfort foods like the roast chicken, jambalaya and meatloaf are delicious. They even have very good seafood as my girlfriend loves their crab cakes (she is not a big seafood eater)
Their house beers are amazing while always carrying a couple seasonal beers. On a recent visit I had their Saison which ranked well against other beers of this style (I am a huge fan of Saison style of beer)
Last but not least, no meal is complete here without some oatmeal cake with vanilla ice cream. Moist cake comprising of oatmeal, brown sugar and maybe molasses? with a gooey German chocolate cake like topping. The warm cake is perfectly complimented by the rich vanilla ice cream.
Iron hill has a vast menu that has a perfect choice of beer and food for every mood or season. -

"Mr. Pink: Look, I ordered coffee. Now we've been here a long ******** time and she's only filled my cup three times. When I order coffee, I want it filled *six* times.
Mr. Blonde: Six times. Well, what if she's too ******** busy?
Mr. Pink: The words "too ******** busy" shouldn't be in a waitress's vocabulary.
Nice Guy Eddie: Excuse me, Mr. Pink, but I think the last ******** thing you need is another cup of coffee "
My only gripe about the otherwise stellar service @ Iron Hill was I couldn't get a diet coke refill. I eventually got one (*one*). Much like Mr. Pink in reservoir Dogs, I like a refill or three with business lunches. Our server was good, and attentive, besides a 10 minute lag where my diet coke was empty. Food is good, I had a really tasty turkey wrap- roasted turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato in a spinach wrap. My Friend had a grilled chicken salad, looked very fresh.
Iron Hill brews their own beer on the premises. I was at a business lunch so I couldn't really partake, but I did have a shot glass sample of the hefe, which was in a word excellent. I imagine the other 14 taps are good as well. It would be a cool place to drink as it is across the street from Franklin and Marshall college, which I think supplies a good bit of the bar and wait staff.
Cool beer bar, good food as well. -

Pleasant, popular ... and somewhat overrated.
Overall: A disappointing experience that was not utterly charmless.
The home-brewed beer is a plus -- the porter was delicious -- and the food was fine, but pricey.
The restaurant designers get points for exposing the brick, the copper piping and copper tanks -- these added warmth and ambiance.
It is popular with the F&M crowd, and since it is located in College Square, I hear it is doing quite well. Perhaps you'll like it. Me? Eh. -

This place finally opened and we decided to try it out for lunch. It was Mmmm..
----------
FOOD: I got a southwestern salad that was really good. One guy I was with got a brewski burger that he loved and the other guy got a pizza from the wide selection of wood burning oven pizzas that he said was really good. The two of them got a fresh brewed beer (they make their own right there) and they both loved it.
DECOR: Modern and kind of upscale feeling. Its got a lot of space and a lot of tables. The bar isnt all that big tho. Its clean, but then again its brand new..
SERVICE: Fast and Friendly. It was friday at lunch 3 days after they opened. The day shift seemed a little understaffed. Being right across from the college Im sure the night staff doesnt have that problem. Our waitress was prompt and friendly tho.
----------
FINAL THOUGHTS: They were making you wait for 15-20 mins even tho there were tables open. I dont know if its because of being understaffed or what..
Apparently 2 people were dissatisfied with their seat and started to storm out. The manager ran out after them and gave them new seats. So kudos on service. -

Ate here for the first time about a month ago. I had the Black Pepper Scallop salad, which was excellent; and a cup of Tomato Basil soup, which was fine, but nothing special. The beer was good, of course, but a touch pricier than the offerings at comparable establishments like Lancaster Brewing.
Service was excellent. While waiting for our table, an employee came around offering samples of their sweet potato fries (which were amazing, and I don't usually like sweet potatoes!). The host was very friendly, and the waitress was knowledgeable and thankfully not intrusive while we enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere is nice, ranging from bustling and high-energy at the bar to quiet and more reserved in the dining room. There was a large (12+) group of college students at the table behind us, which initially worried us, but they weren't rowdy or disruptive at all.
There is a lot behind the restaurant for parking, but it fills up very quickly, so you might find yourself circling for a while until a spot opens up - keep this in mind if you've got a reservation. Speaking of which, a word to the wise - if you plan to go on Friday or Saturday evening, make a reservation as far in advance as possible because it fills up very quickly. We called ahead several hours in advance and still had to wait about 45 minutes for a table to open up.
A good experience overall, and I will certainly be returning in the future. -

I have been very pleased with the food and the service at Iron Hill.
Located across the street from Franklin and Marshall College, this place draws a crowd every weekend and after five every night. Make reservations on the weekend so you can get in quickly.
The food is great. You must get the sweet potato fries!! And they only carry their own beers. Their beer is very good. Try something out of the box they might surprise ya. They sure did surprise me.
Parking can be a chore on busy nights since the lot behind Iron Hill is shared between a set of apartments and the stores. Park on the front side of the fence. You will get towed if you park on the other side reserved for residents. -

Iron Hill is located in a new set of retail/office buildings adjacent to Franklin and Marshall college (it actually shares a parking lot with their field house).
We had made reservations through the website and when we arrived, we were seated promptly. Our waitress came out to introduce herself and to go over the beer selections available. After taking our drink orders, my friend had a question about two of the beers. The waitress returned with two samplers for him to taste.
We ordered a shared plate of sweet potato fries, which came with three dipping sauces. These were the best SP fries I've ever tasted. They were handcut and lightly seasoned with salt. While these are listed as a shared plate, they could easily be a meal in and of themselves.
I ordered the Fajita Spiced Chicken Salad with a cup of the Sweet Potato and Maple Bisque on the side. Both items were terrific. The bisque was sweet with just a hint of spice. The salad on the other hand, was all spice. It came with a chipotle-ranch dressing which was fairly spicy.
The only downside to all this was the service. The dining room was pretty slow, but the service seemed to be hit or miss. Sometimes our waitress would appear to be attentive to our drinks, and other times, it seemed like she was nowhere to be found.
But the service won't be enough to discourage me from coming back. This is a nice place with a lot of good-looking food options that will require further investigation. The prices are a little on the high-side, but I think the quality justifies it. -

I have been to Iron Hill 2 times - once for a business lunch and once with friends for dinner. Both times the food and service was excellent. They are usually pretty busy and crowded, but if time is not an issue, give them a try.
I had thier beer sampler ... which was a great deal and well worth it...the appitizers were all very good, as was the entres. The menu is fairly traditional, however with lots of twists.
Highly recomended! -

Lancaster, PA
Iron Hill is a regional chain featuring beer brewed in each location and food (as well as a full bar). It's usually busy, seating in the bar can be difficult to get and because of the way the bar is laid out, it's very crowded. Don't eat in the bar if you don't like people slamming into you when you eat. Service in the bar area, food or drinks, is mostly pretty slow (again, it seems to be an access issue).
The restaurant overall is tastefully decorated in an upscale, modern if not somewhat generic sense. The booths and seats are comfortable. Service in the restaurant is usually excellent.
The menu has an interesting, diverse selection of offerings. They are typically very well prepared with top shelf ingredients. I've yet to be less than thrilled with the food.
Their beer is excellent as well. A good, wide range of choices that stand up with any micro-brew I've had.
Overall, it's a solid, reliable place to get lunch or dinner. It's not cheap but they're not trying to be. For what it is, Iron Hill is consistent and very good. For a regional chain they've done a commendable job of maintaining quality and offering excellent food and beer. -

I've had the privilege of eating at Iron Hill on a few occasions, and it's definitely one of the coolest places to eat in Lancaster. The majority of the times I have eaten there have been at lunch, so most commonly I go with the burgers. They're good.
Fries are good too.
Today when I had lunch there, I also had the bisque which was very good.
I would definitely like to eat there again, and probably will eat there again at least once. One of the places in Lancaster I would most highly recommend to go out for dinner. -

Excellent German Pilsner (lasted about 3 minutes in front of me) and an average Vienna Red Lager. Honestly did not have much to eat other then the chicken nachos, which were quite good if not basic. Large, loud dining rooms, but that is what you expect at a brewery.

By the far the most competent and well-informed staff I'm ever come across! Our waitress impressed me simply by taking our drink orders. I tried the Vienna lager, which was good. My dinner was on the lighter side, opting for a cup of the tomato basil soup and an order of bruschetta, both of which were done nicely. The soup was especially good. If I lived in the area, I'm sure I would be a regular customer.

A nice brew.........Ii was going to say "pub", but it is a pretty big ,commercial, well run, restaurant. American food, American service. Now, let's not forget that this place is right across from F&M college, a $40k plus a year college, that seems to cater to the preppy, upper income group that can't get into an Ivy League school. So, depending on what time of day you go to the Brewery, the crowd varies from daytime business men, wives clubs, golfing groups --- the usual daytime food/drink crowd --- to past 10:00 no, no, past 11:00 PM college / young people drinking crowd. They have daddies credit cards, so they like to hang out at a cool, well stocked, full bar, great beer, high end place. And party. the beer ranges from a light to a high octane mix that will get you into the college party mood. So, the place varies greatly each day.

A bit pricey and some elements - like mashed potatoes- can be gluey. Appetizers vary in quality but are well presented. Beers are nice with a fair selection.
