Good food, good beer. If you plan to eat, don't go late at night, when the menu is restricted.
The pizza is not as good as their other plates. -
Review from Izzat A.
Went here to eat with a friend and came away very very surprised with how good the food was. I got the Voodoo Chicken Pizza. This was probably the second best pizza I've ever had. It was spicy and had a kick to it. The smoked gouda was an awesome flavor. She got the Garcia pizza and she liked it a lot took. I tried it and it was pretty good. Pizza's were very big and priced very well. Service was very friendly and quick. Will definitely come back here and would recommend this place.

Is it me, or have the prices gotten a little out of control here? $14.95 for a personal pizza? $6 for a pumpkin ale they brew there? Don't get me wrong - the food is very good, just not up to the menu prices. It's a brewpub in a college town, not 5-star dining in Philadelphia.

Review from Perry H.
The menu is large and varied making it easy for anyone to find something to enjoy. There's appetizers, big plates, entree salads, and healthy options ranging from veggies to bar grub to more upscale seafood and pasta dishes.
On our most recent visit I had the ahi tuna entree off the healthy options section of the menu. The tuna was perfectly seasoned and cooked medium rare and placed on a bed of sauteed leeks, mushrooms, and white bean with a tomato vinegarette. It was really flavorful and a very nice portion. I also had the spinach salad off the nightly dinner special menu.
The full dinner menu stops around 10pm and they transition to a small plate/late night menu. Looking around everything else looked really great, especially the sweet potato fries which were served with several dipping sauces and were a huge portion. On the beer front, I've sampled a few of the Iron Hill brews and they are pretty good, I like the IPA most of what I've had.
Service was good and it was a nice night sitting out front on the patio. Really laid back and pretty well priced for the quality (both of us had entrees, split a salad, with one glass of wine and one beer for $58). I'll definitely be returning and look forward to sampling more of the menu. -

I really like their raspberry wheat beer. They have a vast menu of quality food and the appetizers are very tasty

CONSISTENTLY GOOD! GREAT SERVICE, GREAT BEER!
OK, I've been to the Iron Hill Brewery in Wilmington and I can tell you that the food and service are consistently GOOD!! I strongly suggest you get educated the fun way by their Beer Sampler. One of their Servers will educate you on their latest beers. Our Server was excellent. He recommended dishes and paired them up with his knowledge on the beers. My Son had the Black Bean Burger (He's a Vegetarian) and I had the Hummus Plate. I also had the Beer Sampler. I strongly encourage you to try this sampler to know which beers you will like. Good Food, Great Service, Great Fun! -

I've always heard good things, so I went with high expectations. Unfortunately they were out of the homemade root beer, frowny face. My husband and friend liked their microbrews and my glass of wine was fine, but I was so excited to try the root beer! I ordered the mesclun salad (tasty!) and the goat cheese pizza (filling) and was overall satisfied with the dining. I wish I could comment on the calamari, which we also ordered, but sadly it never made its way out of the kitchen.
This leads me to something I must address, the sweet but perhaps inexperienced server we worked with. I honestly don't remember his name, but he never brought our food, other people did. Not sure if the lack of calamaru can be attributed to him, but he was genuinely surprised when we told him it never came after he came to check on the quality of our entrees. I guess he was out of the loop. When the check came, the first one he brought was not ours. The second one he brought was ours, but incorrect. The third time was the charm, and we left a decent tip, but were disappointed nonetheless. -

What an awesome, euphoric experience that this establishment presents to both food and drink lovers! You just can't go wrong with any choice you make here--it's all finely crafted and expertly served to perfection. I shall return here soon as part of The Newark Pilgrimage 2012!

On long drives down to DC, its tempting to stop at a rest stop or chain restaurant. Don't. Instead, take a few extra miles to go into this great little college town and stop in at a place like Iron Hill. We've gone several times and each time come away wishing there were a place like this closer.
Standouts (besides the obvious beer) are cheesesteak eggrolls (mmmm), Jambalaya, and the salads. The sandwiches and wraps are also terrific.
Added bonus -- a GREAT kids menu that has more choices than most with some healthy options to boot. -

Hillsborough, NJ
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I thought it was a bit pricey. Had hummus, cucumbers, tomatoes, and feta inside an awesome spinach wrap. The wrap was absolutley amazing. A perfect combination of ingredients that just blended nicely. Came in pretty late on our way back from Camden Stadum in Baltimore. We were pretty tired so we set in the dining room instead of the bar. However walking by the bar it seemed like a good crowd and seemed like one of the nicer places in the area. Didn't try the beer so I can't offer any advice in that area however I did buy a souvenier pint glass to add to my always expanding collection. The waitress was very nice and actually ended up being from our area.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I wasn't scheduled to see my long-distance man friend for three weeks straight. I was grumbly about it until a wise redhead suggested we pick a weekday to meet up somewhere in between our respective locations, so that's just what we did -- according to MapQuest, Wilmington/Newark was approximately 1 hr. 40 min. from the both of us.
What does one do when attempting to dine in an unfamiliar city? Consult Yelp, of course!
Caffe Gelato sounded cool, but suspiciously didn't have any menu prices on their website. Turns out entrees were ~$25 each. Oof.
Fortunately, Iron Hill was a short, chilly walk down the street. For a Wednesday, the place was bumpin' - we're talking the-hostess-handed-us-a-buzzer busy. The wait was minimal, though, and soon we were seated.
THE MENU:
I wanted to eat everything. Seriously -- the soups, salads, appetizers, pizzas, sandwiches, entrees and beers all sounded amazing. I didn't want to drink drink in case I needed to drive back to Maryland that night, so I went for iced tea (they had flavors like mango, peach, raspberry and passionfruit, ooh la la). Brian tried out their house-made root beer, which was tasty as hell.
Indecisive libra that I am, I ordered a mesclun salad, crab quesadilla and a plate of sweet potato fries. B ordered a teriyaki chicken entree from the Healthy Selections section of the menu (they also had gluten-free options, which is cool).
THE FOOD:
My salad came with granny smith apples, pistachios, dried cranberries, vermont cheddar, onions and an orange-vanilla vinaigrette. It was every bit as delicious as that sounds! The crab quesadilla was okay, but I've been spoiled by Nacho Mama's in Baltimore... if they had swapped the cheddar/monterey jack for gouda, I would have been in heaven. As it was, the amount of crab was decent.
The sweet potato fries get their own freaking paragraph. Really, I could write a sonnet. I was OMGing like a 13 year-old as soon as the plate arrived; the portion was huge, the fries were huge, and the dipping sauces -- *wow.*
I'll confess to not trying the habanero-lime, but the smoked paprika aioli tasted like the orange dip you get at peruvian chicken places (which I'm crazy about), and the bourbon-vanilla sauce made the sweet potato taste like a cinnamon bun. YUM. I had the leftovers for breakfast this morning -- 12 hours and two fridges later, and still YUM.
THE SERVICE:
Tyler was awesome. He was the kind of server who brings you a refill on your drink before you notice you're approaching the bottom of the glass. His section was completely full, but you wouldn't have been able to tell from his impeccable timing -- he checked back when he needed to, and let us talk when we needed to. Also, he was balancing plates like he worked at Clyde's! I don't usually tip crazy high, but the guy earned a solid 25% from me.
- 1 star because I wasn't wowed by the quesadilla and B didn't rave about his chicken, but I'd be totally willing to bump it up on my next visit. I miss you, sweet potato fries.... -

GREAT GREAT beer and super tasty food!
We went here for an early lunch last weekend while visiting family.
As soon as we were seated, our server was right over with a big plate filled with a varietable plethora of brunch breads! What a nice touch and pleasant surprise from the usual bread basket at most places.
Their beers are outstanding!
Our favorites: Pig Iron Porter and all 3 of the three wheat beers that they had - maybe all seasonal? Not sure. There was a White Belgian - GREAT! a Raspberry Wheat - also great and then pretty standard but delicious Hefewiezen. There were about 5 or 6 others available as well which were also good but these four were standout's for me personally.
The food is great - huge menu. The prices were a little higher than I expected but definitely worth it since A. the food is really good and
B. the portions are huge! We all had leftovers for lunch the next day.
Service is excellent and the place is really nice - good ambience!
So good that we went back the next day!
Our next visit to Newark will absolutely include as many stops at Iron Hill as we can possibly fit in! -

Iron Hill was the best place on Wed. nights for a chill night out, and Saturdays before the Balloon.
They have the greatest chicken wings in the whole world and every time I go to Newark I have to have them... I'm also a huge fan of their raspberry wheat pints.... If you are ever bored do a sampler, they're awesome. -

Baltimore, MD
The best wings ever! I went to the University of Delaware and have since lived in Nashville and Baltimore. I will ONLY eat wings at Iron Hill and have been known to make it a point to stop there for lunch or dinner on my way home from Philadelphia, New York, or any point North of Delaware.
The burger is also fantastic, as are the nachos. Everything here is really fresh. It may be bar food, but it is bar food done right and with high quality ingredients. The entrees are lacking in imagination and sometimes execution, so it's best to stick with the bar food.
As for the beer, I'm certainly not an expert, but I've never liked any of them. They are all too hoppy for my tastes. Give me a Yuengling any day! The sampler is fun though if you are with a group and feeling adventurous.
Service is usually good and the atmosphere is nice in a clubby sort of way. It doesn't have that icky college feel like Klondike Kate's or Deer Park Tavern. -
Review from Jeremy W.
Very good food for brunch, lunch, or dinner, and a good selection of micro brew beers. Can be a little pricey for students, but one of the few places in town to get a solid dining experience.
As a bar, the house special shots are a joke and it can be very hard to get a drink. Unfortunately, with so many other bars closing, this is one of the few places to go if you're not interested in a house party. -

Newark, DE
Hands down, this is one of the best places around and it has the best beer around!
In general, the food is great. It is always well-executed and usually creative. The specials are always interesting and delicious, and the regular menu is just a plain comfort. It's fine dining in beer-form.
The burgers are always prepared well, the pizzas have the right crust and the right toppings, the fish is always the best. Even if you go for meatloaf or pork chops you will be happy - they are also excellent.
Desserts are also very good. Try the Oatmeal cake - it is a dense moist cake with the bite of oatmeal - just great.
The beers are why I go. I have a club membership which gets me reward points and a 4-oz larger mug of beer. The hand-made beer choices usually change for the season - but the standards are what I usually get anyway. In addition, there is a cask-conditioned brew that requires a special hand pump. It is less carbonated and is like an English ale - my absolute favorite.
There is no reason why you would be disappointed with this Newark standard! -

The place used to be crap, selling greasy English-pub-style food. But ever since the last menu change the food improved significantly. Whoever's behind this change - give yourself a pat on the back.

Food selection not the most verbose, but the beer selection is great. This place is unique, great service and amazing beers and ales. Try the pumpkin ale!

Micro brewers are generally a good idea, and this place is no exception. Smack in the middle of this college town, you get a wide variety of clientel, which differentiates it from neighboring spots.
The beers are very good. Unlike other pubs, they also offer a wide variety of fresh seafood and the food is very well made. Delicious. -

Beer selection is good, not too pricey, nice atmosphere, good place, especially for a first date! I haven't had any of their food so I can't rate on that..

The beers selection that iron hill offers is great. I love getting the sampler which is a small pour of all their beers. The service is always friendly. The food is good, but could be a little more diverse.

Newark, DE
One of my favorite bars on Main Street since there usually aren't a lot of college kids hanging around...it's out of their price range. Parking was a big issue this week, but I can't really blame this on the restaurant. Everyone seemed to be out in Newark. Some of the beers are good, some not so good. I had the seasonal Bad Santa, which was definitely one of their better beers.
The food ranges from sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas, and larger entrees. It's definitely not just typical bar food. The sandwiches are inexpensive and usually pretty decent. This visit I had one of the tuna entrees. I was happy that they didn't overcook the tuna and served it rare. It wasn't the best tuna I've ever had, but it there wasn't anything wrong with it.
They remodeled the inside since my last visit. I found it a little odd that they had a band located in the dining room instead of the bar area. Waits for a table may take a while, we were told over an hour for a Wednesday night. We just ate at the bar, so I don't know how accurate the time was. It didn't look like there were that many people waiting for a table.
Overall, not a bad choice for a drink and a meal. -

Just had dinner here we both had the crab cakes with a corn relish and potatoes
Food was excellent as usual. Service was good. They are in process of redoing the interior and rolling out a new menu for the summer. Can't wait for it to be done. -

Brookline, MA
I always loved Iron Hill. I tried Iron Hill when I was visiting the campus while choosing between colleges; needless to say I ended up attending UDEL and eat many meals and spent many nights drinking at the Hill. I would always prefer Iron Hill over Kates which is more of a touristy establishment.
All the drinks are a deal, they used to offer and I believe they still do $1 shots which are good for a buck. The place is always clean, the staff is always friendly and the menu is filled with some really great items.
While traveling down to Baltimore last weekend I stopped in with my girlfriend to catch up with some friends. I honestly believe Iron Hill has gotten better, if that is possible.
They started us off with some "irish-soda" bread which was pretty darn good. I ordered a "Mexican" type burger (w/guac, cheese, onion) which was out of this world; one of the best burgers I have had in recent memory. Wasn't a tad burned and cooked to perfection. It came with coleslaw which was freaking amazing and the always good fries. My gf ordered the chicken-salad sandwich and was raving about it the whole weekend.
The menu is very upscale bar food and may cost more than any other place on campus but is surely worth it. -

Great menu. Great premise-brewed beer. But the beer is pretty pricey for a college town. If you've never been here, it is definitely worth it.

One of my favorite place to go to in DE when I was working there. The food is always good. For starters, I love their sweet potato fries which comes in three dipping sauce (chili ancho aioli, cinnamon sweet dip, and another spicy dip) and the turkey burger with guacomole is the best. There make an awesome heifeweizen. You can also purchase a sample of all the beer that is produce at the microbrewery in the restaurant.

Review from John B.
Touting your bona fides as best craft brewer in northern Delaware is a little like saying, "best Major League Baseball team in Flushing, NY." Suffice it to say that the beer isn't too great. The IPA tastes like hops, hops, hops and soap. For the price, I'd rather buy a sixer of Lord Chesterfield on Elkton Road. I have no inclination to try the food. The decor (or atmosphere, as it were) reminds me of one of those "fancy" glass hotel elevators.

Newark, DE
Iron Hill has a great selection of microbrews beers - I recommend the sampler. No joke, the beers are wonderful, especially considering most of Newark is a college bar scene (ie light beers dominate). As for the food, it's quite good but a bit expensive compared to the other restaurants in the area. The atmosphere, menu and food selection are much more adult (as opposed to college-age focused) but the prices are too.

Chicago, IL
This place seems a little bit more mature then the rest of the bars on the strip. The seasonal beer that was on tap had hints of banana and clove and I should have taken a growler home with me. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. I went with the meatloaf and unfortunately it was very dry. If we weren't faced with a long night of driving ahead I would have suggested doing the flight of beers, which comes with 12 freaking different beers. My heart belongs to the seafood bisque which tasted very rich, creamy, salty and seafoody, but not fishy. Service was a bit so-so. They stuck our table alllll the way in the back and I think our server got a little bit more then she bargained for with our large party + 1 4 year old.

We've stopped in here several times over the last couple of years and were always satisfied and had a good time. I always enjoy sampling new beers and they had a nice variety here and tasty suds too! Good burgers and wings and friendly service. it can get crowded but that just makes it more lively. A good solid 4 star place.

While they make take a healthy salad and load it up with so much awesomeness that you might as well have grabbed a burger, the salads here are fabulous! Great place to have a group lunch, tons of yummy appetizer selections. Definitely one of the better restaurants on Main Street.

Good brews, although I would rather make the trek to either DogfishHead or Victory. Good place for dinner, I like the one in West Chester more.

The beer is good. But the food is overpriced. I could get the same quality of food down the street for way cheaper. Nevertheless a necessity for a Newark bar crawl.

Newark, DE
Iron Hill is a great little brewpub on Main Street in Newark. The beers are pretty good, but expensive. The food is underrated by many, though. I've eaten here countless times and sampled a different menu item every time, and I can't say I was disappointed with anything. Highlights of the permanent menu include the calamari, the brewski burger, any pizza, and the jambalaya. They also have daily specials from time to time which tend to be good. The atmosphere is very brewpub-like....plenty of wood paneling and warm tones. This is also a great place to have a party -- you can reserve the backroom, and Iron Hill provides pitchers of beer and great appetizers. Like I said, the beer is good, but expensive. The food prices seem more reasonable to me. I've also been to the Wilmington location, and it offers an identical experience as far as food and beer is concerned but in a more scenic location on the waterfront.

I remember when this Newark location opened back when I was in school at UD. My family still lives in Newark, so I try to hit it every time I go home if possible.... and it improves every time! I'm pretty much a burger/chicken sandwich or big salad guy, so I can't comment on the more "sophisticated" meals, but the food I order is always well above average. Not the best food in the world, but well worth it. The service is great as well... I always end up leaving 20+%. You can always find a good beer.... and they have a Gluten Free menu for my wife who is allergic to Wheat (they even have Gluten free beer!). No place is perfect, so I'm trying to find a reason to not give it 5 stars, but I really can't think of anything significant that would bump it down to 4? Highly recommended, but it does get very busy during peak times (and that almost always leads to issues no matter where you are), so for your first visit, go at an off hour and you'll be hooked!

Review from Craig F.
Lewes, DE
When I lived in Delaware, I would eat here at least once every other week because of the consistency in their food, service and value. I was back in DE for an extended time in Sept-Oct and stopped by the Newark location at least 4 times and it NEVER disappointed me. I think it has improved on a few levels. FIrst, they have expanded their menu with many, many more choices than before (the chicken pot pie and the cheesesteak eggrolls were both winners). It is just a really cozy, comfortable place to go and chill out and relax with friends. The beer (although not on the same level of Dogfish Head, but then again, NOTHING is) is pretty good and their "mug club" concept is pretty cool. I gave this place 4 stars versus DFH 3 stars because the food is head over heels better than DFH (they could take a cue from Iron Hill in terms of pairing their beers with some amazing food choices). Iron Hill, love that you are expanding to other locations...You should really show some balls and open up one in Rehoboth Beach. I think there is room for both DFH and you there!

Review from Musin Y.
Newark, DE
The sandwiches are pretty good but I'm not crazy about this place. It's pretty boring. Also, their house chocolate cake was a big letdown. The cake tasted like it was from a box and in the inside peanut butter sauce was more flour and water than peanut.
