Great little bar with cheap drinks, a killer jukebox and always the chance for lively conversation. On more than one occasion, i ran into an old friend there, just a great place to get drunk and relax

This is a great little neighborhood bar just around the corner from my buddy's new place.  I'm proud of myself for being the first one to spot it while helping him move.

The inexpensive drinks were a welcome relief to the mortgage payments I was dropping in Manhattan.  The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

It also happens to be in one of the coolest neighborhoods I've been to.

*Cool Bartender
*Free Darts
*Great Big Screen TV

I went to this place the other night because I was in the area, and I'll definitely go back again next time I'm around.  The bartender was a cool Irishman who knew how to pour a mean pint of Guinness.  They have a  jukebox and some arcade games, but I'm a more of a darts person so we hit that up and I have no complaints.  The big screen is pretty huge and this is definitely a good place to go if you want to watch some sports because they have each TV in the place tuned in to something different.  The decor is pretty standard for a pub and the crowd is neighborhood, so it's very laid back.

Everyone that talks about this place points out the bartenders.  It's for good reason as they are spot on.  Always buying back, and can entertain.  Nice big screen to watch a game.  All this, and the Guinness is the best pint I've had in nyc.

Once, when I went here, there was a rugby team celebrating a win. Another time when I went here, I poured $5 into the jukebox and went to town. This other time, there was a one-man band who was INCREDIBLE (still trying to figure out what his name was.) And once? My friends and I stumbled in at 2am on New Years to the most interesting mix of drunk people I've ever seen in my entire life, and it seemed like every person in there was having the time of their lives.

This is by far, my favorite bar in Astoria, and it should be yours too.

I Love this place.  Without fail, everytime I have come here, no matter what kind of mood I am in or who I'm with-I leave so happy. And am super hungover the next day.  It's like the bartenders are on a personal mission to get you drunk.  They give you every 3rd beer free, and the beer is pretty cheap to begin with. The bartenders are very nice and cool.  Also hanging out on the front steps is always very entertaining. I think I have drunkenly met about 100 new best friends or potential dates here.  And they have a good beer selection. Erdinger makes me happy.

Great little neighborhood bar. Drink prices are still reasonable $4.50 for a Stoli and club...they have live bands on the weekends...Bartenders buy back every third drink and it gets a diverse crowd.

Friendly bartenders, stage for live band, Cheap prices

I'm really glad to have found Yelp.com, because I would have never found this bar by myself. Its not on the main streets (31st St, 30th Ave, Steinway, or Ditmars Ave), but that's what makes it such a gem. I went there with my friends for 2007 New Years Eve celebrations and we had a lot of fun. The bartender was really friendly, I had no problem getting his attention every time I was by the bar to get drinks (and I did that at least 5 times), and he had no problem understanding my orders even over the loud music.

The place wasn't too pack when we got there at around 10 pm. But it became pretty packed within the hour. I was really surprised that they had a live band, which wasn't mentioned here, but that really made it even better. The band played a variety of music from Elvis to 3 Doors Down. They were quite good, getting the audience in to it and even had a girl get on the stage to dance. Meanwhile, a bar staff was handing out a bunch of different party favors (hats, whistles, noisemakers) to get everybody really into a holiday mood.

We wanted to stay til 1 PM but end up leaving closer to 2 PM because we had so much fun. I closed out my tab and it came out only to $76 for like 10 guiness (not sure about guiness, we ordered a lot), 2 smithwicks, 1 blue moon, 2 mix drinks, and 6 Jameson shots.  I would be lucky to get 1/2 of that order in a Manhattan bar for that price.

This is the best local pub ever!  Their prices are so reasonable.  The serve their Erdinger in a tall glass, they always remember what I owe them with my free one included and most willing to give out Tay-tos if they have them behind the bar.  The bartenders know how to keep the girls interested and how to tell a sexist joke now and then (but that's the fun of it).  There are always social people and groups that show up.  It can get loud on Saturdays, but that's due to the LIVE music!  I only wish I could actually get in on a dart game now and then, otherwise, I couldn't be more blessed to live so close!

I slipped in here to catch a bit of last Sunday's Giants game and I pretty much stumbled out some hours thereafter. That lack of temperance and control on my behalf is a compliment to the quality of the bar.

I'm not the biggest fan of either Irish Pubs or Sports bars (which Irish Rover is sort of a hybrid) they're often too sterile and nondescript for my taste. Irish Rover, however, is comfortable with plenty of character.

The Bartenders rule! They are on it  and serious about the every third buy back rule. Often they don't even ask if you want another, your third just arrives whether you want it or not.  Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant.

Crowd is mixed. As I sat there by my lonesome sipping my umpteenth pint, some fellow was grumbling objectionable racial epithets in my ear, some young local boys were dancing about to one of Brittney's latest hits and some true-blood New Yorkers were reveling in the Giants victory.
I'll be back for some more buy backs.

I was working nights when I first moved to Queens, and the Rover opens at 8am. Nothing helps counter-act a Life Less Ordinary like buy-back thirds when everyone else is on their way to work. The bartenders know how to bs with the best of them, and they're on your side of the bar often enough too. Guiness and Jameson shots await!

The Rover is one of the best neighborhood dive bars I've ever seen. The Guiness is cold and scrumptious. The bartenders are friendly (and, yes, they give buy-backs like every good bar should). The decor is cozy---seemingly 200-year-old wooden walls and squeaky floors abound. It has a wonderfully subdued atmosphere, and a very cool selection of tunes in the juke. Gets pretty crowded on weekends (you should go there and get drunk on a Sunday afternoon).
