I wish all you trivia losers would stop over-analyzing this place. It's a fine 4-star, laid-back, neighborhood place to drink, socialize and play real bar games (i.e. pool... Trivia is NOT a real bar game) Period.
Real drinkers don't care about the acoustics during your candy-ass trivia nights. Get a life and stop trying to to tarnish the reputation of a perfectly good bar. Maybe you should move your trivia night to Chili's or Applebee's if you can't handle this place.

Damn you Irish bars of Denver. YOU SUCK!!!!!!
I should put Irish in quotes. Yes, I will do that from now on until someone can tell me where to go. This place is your typical Cherry Creek bar with dark wood. They have Guinness on tap! Wow. Big Whooppee!!!!
And a "Irish Pub" with no boxty is no Irish Pub. Fish n Chips on your menu does not mean you are an "Irish Pub." And your Black Velvet was weak.
Ugh. If it wasn't for my friend wanting to go here I probably would've never visited. Wasn't there an awesome Chinese restaurant here ten years ago? Now that place was awesome. Seems to me that the Cherry Cricket is still the only place that is good in this entire neighborhood. But I haven't been there in years. Am I turning into one of those old dudes that says "in my days..........."
Oh well, at least I was with friends.

We joined some fellow tweeter's here on sat night. We arrived at 7pm and there was still plenty of seating, woohoo!
The bouncer was more interested in what was going on on his computer, and i guess we looked old, so we were just ushered in.
There is a "sit where you want policy" - that's cool, as long as you know that's how it works...
It is a local pub so families with children think it's ok to bring their little ones and allow them to run around and play. Sigh.
We ended up with a largish group and started to move tables - FYI - DO NOT DO THAT. Ask the non existent wait staff for help with that!
We ended up with the table the long way instead a big block which was our intention. It worked out ok.
The shorter male bar tender rocks. He's on top of things, friendly, and helpful.
The bald fella and the gal on sat night seemed to be simply annoyed that we had chosen their establishment to spend our money.
So - per the rest of the reviewers - yes the service is indeed horrible!
The people that had been there before, at the table, agreed, but said the food was worth it. Hmmm... Too many fabulous places in town for me to put up with crap service.
I did the tuna steak sandwich - pretty tasty! Hubby did the burger and said it was pretty good. The fella across the table went with the Philly cheese steak and said it was amazing - "but be sure to order it without the peppers". The onions rings were pretty good. And hubby LOVED the potato chips!
Getting a second beverage be it alcoholic or water was pretty hard. Getting the check was tricky. And crossing the bald guy when he makes your drinks the way you don't want - ohhh.... just don't go there.
All in all, good for groups, food was decent, but i do not think i shall be returning.

Quizmaster: "*mumble, mumble... Cambodia... mumble, mumble... Angelina... mumble, mumble"
Satan Gave Me A Taco: "What did he say? I can't hear a thing"
Yep that's pretty much how the night went. This isn't the first time we've experience a bad sound system. Casey's Bistro was bad (read review here: http://www.yelp.com/bi... ), but this place was much worse.
I arrived an hour early to snag a table for our team(s) and when I got there the place was packed. I don't think any of us realize that Monday nights might not be the best for trivia during football season due to Monday Night Football. I got the only booth available and saw two tables next to it that my fellow teams could sit at. It was a good thing I didn't sit there first, because a group of four had been moved because their was some sort of graduation party that took over. Not knowing what to do, I remained in my seat until I saw some familiar faces.
By pure chance, we ended up getting two booths near each other as well as a table. Before our team moved closer to the others, we made an attempt to hear the quizmaster over the party noise and horrible sound system, but when that didn't work. We moved to the booth that emptied, just in time. However that didn't help one bit. We still struggled to hear what was being said. Audio clips were the worse. If it had just been myself and my team, I might have just said, let's go and not played that night. That's how bad it was.
In addition to the horrible sound system, the service was not good either. It took quite awhile to get drinks for our table. They were swift with sneaky pick ups of empty bottles and glasses, but wouldn't stick around to get us another. There were only two people tending too all these people. A big problem with most of these bars. They want the business, but fail to get enough people to work on trivia nights. Doesn't make sense. It's things like this that make people not want to return. Which is where I stand with this place.
There wasn't anything impressive about the place or unique to want me to go back to on trivia nights. On any other night, I might be convinced to go back, try some food and have some more drinks, but again, never for trivia.

Meh. I agree with Yvonne. It seemed crazy to me that this place had (I think) 2 bartenders to serve the whole bar and restaurant, especially considering it was Monday Night Football and Geeks Who Drink trivia. I mean if those aren't 2 drinking groups I don't know what a drinking group is.
I normally would have given them 3 stars because I did like the interior and the service was understandable, but I have to give only 2 because of the drink I ordered. I'm fairly sick right now and so I ordered a hot toddy to sooth my throat. I got a glass of hot whiskey and water. I mean sure those are the basic ingredients, but let me tell you without honey and lemon it just tastes bad. Considering it was an Irish Bar I would have thought they could either make it right or tell me they didn't have the ingredients.
It's possible I'd go back here, but it wouldn't be my idea.

I won't even start about how crappy the sound was in there for GWD! It was ridiculous! This is not my reasoning for 2 stars, but it certainly didn't help them.
I have been here before during a non-trivia evening and I still got "meh". Service, not so much. Our waiter wasn't with it. We don't ask for much and yet we were still not satisfied. The ticket was jacked and tried charging more for items than listed. So uncool.
Food, I have had much better at crummier bars.
Chances are we won't see each other again.

Disclaimer - I went on a Tuesday.
However, the bartender, yes there was only one, was awesome! He poured a drink exactly the way I wanted. He was more than accommodating and pleasant.
The high-backed wooden booths are amazingly set against dark paneled walls. The seats at the bar are rockin too!
A friend of mine ordered some food and it came fast. It looked delicious. I wish I wouldn't have stopped for pizza.
I can't forget to mention - they have Foosball, bubble hokey from the 80's that is only a quarter to play, basketball and more. This place is a great place to eat, drink and be merry.
I think its time to give this place a positive review.

I have been known to annoy some of my California friends with my tales of Denver and its proliferation of happy hours. It's like my version of urban legend: talking about how bars in my beloved former Mile High town have awesome specials ALL THE TIME so I'm allowed to get snapped when some San Francisco bar wants to charge me $8 for a beer at 6pm.
So when four of us flew out from SF and rolled into the Irish Hound at 11pm, how vindicated did I feel to see a sign announcing a late night happy hour?!? The girls and I threw back beers and snacks galore for about $6 apiece. I could probably do with a larger beer selection (because I am a beer snob and love me some Colorado microbrews), and pub grub is notoriously not geared toward vegetarians, but hey, the price is right! The giant wooden booths are cozy for a medium size group, and you can play pool at one of the tables in the back to work off whatever deep friend appie you chose.

Went on a Friday for a meeting / happy hour. I only had beer. Irish Hound has beer. Beer is good. Ergo, Irish Hound is good. The service was attentive and the atmosphere friendly. A little noisy and a bit far from the old suburbia homestead, but I would recommend it to someone looking for a casual hang-out.

This is an excellent place for Happy Hour. The specials are always good, the apps RAWK, and lastly and maybe most importantly they have FUEL TV!!! Anytime I can get a Smithwick's while checking out skate boarding I am stoked. Yay for the Irish Hound!
The only reason I am giving it less than 5 stars? The parking situation is very bad. Beware of the parking signs or you will end up with a ticket.

Not a huge fan. The food was pretty good, but the service? Why would you only staff one person serving and tending bar??? My group and I literally had to flag the guy down when we saw him because he would disappear for a long period of time. It's not the poor guy's fault, he was running around like crazy. I'll try to come back when it's not trivia night and see if the service is any better. And even though I think the food is good and I like the interiors, I'd prefer to go to the Snug which is NOT one of my favorites.

I like this place cause of the whisky selection, although they didn't have any Talisker the last time I was there. It's super white bread, but generally friendly. The waitresses usually have a little attitude, but that's part of the charm. The beer on tap tends to all have that musty tap taste, and the bartenders here couldn't make a black and tan to save their life. Other than that, the place is usually hopping and the patio rocks (until they shoo everyone off around 10p to satisfy the neighbors). I hit this joint maybe every few months, cause it's a fun change of pace and I can walk to it from my house... and stumble home.

Love it. This is a great little Irish bar with a great atmosphere. Outside seating is a plus. They have a good selection of both Scotch and Irish whiskey along with a good selection of beers. Come here for the atmosphere and happy hour.

This is a great bar with good happy hour specials. I would definitely go back again!
The Irish Hound is a great post-work watering hole. And by post-work, I am referring to 10 or 11 pm, which are the only times I've actually been to the hound. Considering as it's three blocks from where I work, the convenience factor is unmatched. The late night happy hour is great, and the staff is attentive and friendly. They have an amazing beer selection, including strongbow on tap, which is something I haven't seen before. I love the Irish whiskey choices, as I am a sucker for a good Irish whiskey. The atmosphere is mellow and welcoming. There is little to no pretension to be found. In addition to their fantastic liquor choices, they have a pretty typical bar menu, satisfying most alcohol induced cravings. Overall, the Hound is a great bar to grab a casual drink with friends. It's not the hippest bar in town, but it serves it's purpose with a smile and a shot. There are definitely good times to be had at this unassuming little bar.
