I've only ever been to the Irish Fest (even though I used to live just blocks from here) but the Irish Fest is great.

The Center is giant and had fields for Gaelic Football and the like (which is delightful to watch... I mean... MMmmmMmm).

Great bands at the festival.   Wonderful beer (Come on, that's why we all go).  And, of course, the pour your own Guinness stand.

Oh, and I wear a ring on the middle finger of my left hand (wheel of the seasons - Irish knot) which I bought.. where?  Here!

I can really only review the Irish Cultural Centre on one dimension - the Irish Connections festival they have each year, and I pretty much only go to see some specific bands/performers - this year I'm going to be there to see Nanci Griffith, and not so much the culture (if it's actually possible to divorce the two). But it is an incredible experience.

The Centre itself is a sprawling campus, replete with a library, a function hall, sports fields, and a bar (although that is mentioned more obliquely than the Centre's other prominent features).

The Irish Connections festival takes advantage of this setting to host 3 days of Irish or Irish-inspired music (from Altan to the Dropkick Murphys to free jams - you can bring your fiddle if you fancy), dance (both professionals performing as well as tents where you can kick up your heels to live music) , literature (you can tell Dan Shaughnessy in person this year how you've always felt he's the curse the Sox suffer under, not the Bambino), sports (gaelic football and hurling all weekend) and more.

The negatives. The concessions are ludicrously expensive. Food is through the roof and beer at $5/6 a pint - you have to be taping at least a dollar if not two to the bottom of each plastic cup for that to be a fair deal.

The port-a-potties bring back memories of the Walk For Hunger, and how I would walk at least an extra half mile each time nature called to avoid having to use them. Thousands of people come to this and most everyone seems to eliminate, plus there are drunk people around (not a lot, but enough).

The prices this year are kinda steep $120 for the full weekend/$50 a day mostly. We bought our passes last year from a fella just outside the entrance gate for like half price. I might be scanning CL for a deal.

So overall, I highly recommend Irish Connections. The Centre seems pretty cool too. Lots of stuff going on there year round for a wide range of interests.
