The woman who washed my hair frickin REEKED of cigarette ash.  Her fingers were stained yellow.  I think she might have blown out my ear drum from yelling at the other hair washer in Russian.  I can't imagine that decibel level for someone standing right next to you.

If you wash hair for a living and your fingers still stink from cigarettes, then that's probably a clue to cut down on the fags.

Had two people do my hair here.  An Asian guy who wasn't too bad (other than the fact that he completely ignored what I told him I wanted) and Matt.

Matt has a reputation.  He's very good.  Maybe even masterful.  You can read about him on other review sites; people rave about him.   He can be a bit catty (if you know what I mean, wink wink nudge nudge) but he's always fun to listen to.  He's very popular.

Unfortunately, maybe too popular.  They raised Matt's rates and kept everyone else at the same price.  At $28 he was a bargain.  Unfortunately, $60 for a men's cut is just ... ridonkulous.  I'd rather go to SuperCuts across the street for $12.

I'm a hetero dude.  $60?   Puh-leez.

If Matt can be catty then the register/appointment guy is ... is ... uhhh  catty^2.  catty!    e^catty   He's a little hard to take.  I think he might take hair cutting a bit too seriously.

I actually like my $12 haircuts.  I won't be coming back.  But it was nice going to a real salon for awhile.

Oh, they "don't like" taking credit cards, although if you press them on the point, they will.   But be prepared for the cashier guy to give you a fed up look.

I like this place.  Actually, I'm not sure it's the place I like, or just my stylist there, Matthew.  I walked in one day on the recommendation of a friend, and happened to have Mathew for a cut and highlights.  He did such a great job, and is such a nice guy, that I never even consider going anywhere else.  It is a bit pricey, but I'd rather pay a little more for a place I trust than go for a bargain and risk cheap looking hair.

alright guys, i seem to be on a mission.  apparently i am going to try several hair places randomly until i find the one true hairstylist love of my life to completely remake my entire look.
third trial location after the first two attempts is this salon, and aveda salon nonetheless- irene dinov.

having been to two other salons since moving here in october, and being disappointed by what mess was on top of my head because of their combined mistakes, i really wanted to walk out of this place the happiest girl ever with a new head of hair.  i went in with pictures and described what i hadn't liked about what had been done to my hair in the past six months and how funky i used to have it and liked it so..but also needed a change of pace.

the guy who did my hair seemed nice enough, though he didn't listen very well.  i'm not sure if it was because he was trying to understand what i was saying or he just didn't care.  but while he was cutting my hair, he was paying more attention to people walking by than to the hairs he was cutting.  after describing the different types of cuts i like and showing him the pictures (which were much different from my hair), i walked out of the salon with the same type of hair cut i've had and my color still not completely balanced.

for what it's worth, because of the mess that the last two places had made my hair with highlights covered up and new ones added where they shouldn't and all that...i really did need to just go back to one color.  and the pricing couldn't be better.  with a color fix, cut, and style it came to about $130 some dollars.  so that's not bad.  and it's aveda products, which i LOVE.

overall, i wanted something funky and wanted the crazy ass highlights that were changing colors on my head to non-prettiness to go away...but i pretty much walked out looking like me maybe 5 years ago.

if you're looking for trendy stuff, this may not be the place for you.  but if you're looking for playing it safe, sticking to what you know and love, then definitely check this place out.  it's not bad.  i just kinda wanted something different.  but i think i will wait until i know and trust a stylist somewhere in this city before i take any big leaps in hairstyle guru-ness.

five stars for being aveda, four stars for fixing my color, one star for the cut, and no stars for the style.  i looked like i should have been doing the 6 o'clock news in ohio after that one.  after all that, it comes out to about three stars.

good thing about hair- it grows back.

the end of my babbling for today.

i'm editing this a few weeks later- the cut is uneven (after styling a few times that was pretty obvious.) and the color is already fading fast.  boooo. minus another star.
