One of my traveling companions was underwhelmed, but he (possibly unreasonably) expected a cabin with a fireplace without reservations... in the middle of a 3-day weekend.
We ended up with one of the "condos," which had a great ocean view and lots of room for multiple people. The best part: it cost LESS than a double in the craphole called Coos Bay/North Bend. The kitchenette would have been a great touch if we'd had opportunity to use it, and I came damn close to cooking dinner for the whole party just to do so.
Several private walks to the beach don't hurt, either. I wouldn't have minded a flashlight for navigating the walk during middle-of-the-night trips for star viewing, but the view at the beach pretty much made up for the hassle of getting there.

Without reading Yelp first we booked a couple nights here on our road trip up the coast because it is dog friendly. Thankfully the dog rooms are the least expensive, so for $89/night this wasn't that bad.
I'd describe it as borderline between quaint and seedy.
Yes, the rooms are dingy, dark and dated, but who stays in their room on vacation?
I sure wouldn't stay here for a romantic weekend. The greenish scum in the oceanfront hot tub would be enough to put off any romantic thoughts.
Location is a big plus. The property has a huge expanse of oceanfront property. The walk on the beach is worth staying if you have no expectations for the actual lodging.
This place totally exceeded my expectations. Super comfy, nothing like a standard hotel room. We're talking wood-burning fireplace with fresh wood dropped at your door like clock-work. I loved the character the room had, it felt like a lived-in log cabin--- oh yea and they are VERY pet friendly apparently, as those of you with pooches may know can be hard to come by. I would definitely stay here again. A++
We stayed at Ireland's Rustic Lodges on our Southern Oregon/Northern California road trip. We stayed in Cedar Cabin which had a carport attached to the cabin. The good: The day we arrived was a cold, wet, rainy day so it was nice to have wood burning fireplace that was fully stocked with wood and kindling. The room also had a refrigerator and microwave in it. The bad: The bathrooms left a lot to be desired as the were small and dingy. The furniture in the living room area really need to be replaced because the seat had a bar poking into your bottom. And the Ugly: The bed pillows had an odd odor to them and I had to spray them with Febreze. I would say that that they live up to their name and the place is definitely rustic.
