Review from Wanda C.
I've been here twice now and each time had a great experience.
My first time at Interstate was for Office Hours. It was such a fun environment and I thoroughly enjoyed the spelling bee held on Monday evenings. I haven't come back to a spelling bee as it's held on Monday nights. I just can't start off my week with going out late and then going to work early the next morning. However, the spelling nerd in me really regrets I can't attend more often. Although it was office hours, I also ordered food. I ordered a sweet potato bacon tamale which was a little light on taste, it didn't have the candied bacon flavor that I was expecting based on the description.
Watch out if you order deviled eggs, you get a large serving for the price. I think I received 6 or 8 deviled eggs, which were yummy, but it was a lot.
I came back for brunch, with my book club in tow. We all loved the food. Most people tried the shrimp and grits; although I had the sportsman's breakfast which was very good.
The only downside was that the service sometimes lagged, which wasn't understandable as we arrived at 10 am and there were never more than 3-4 tables occupied the entire time we were there. There were people sitting at the bar, but our server didn't appear to be assisting them. And it did take quite awhile for the food to arrive and the server told us that the kitchen was backed up? It could have been the customers at the bar who ordered food, but I was a bit surprised.
The food was great and very reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the drinks as well. I would definitely return. I'm just sorry that this place is never super-busy. I'm not sure why, but the food is good. -

What am I missing?
Interstate Kitchen has been in my bookmarks for months...we finally had a perfect opportunity to take a friend and go. We used Open Table to book a table thru Yelp, which is deserving of 4 stars all by itself.
Anyway, three hungry men show up and are immediately put off by the bleh!! service attitude. Not negative but just bleh, ho-hum, Alice-in-Wonderland-where-am-I type of service...get the idea?
The menu is limited and delivered in a novel way but really left us wanting...to go somewhere else. Nothing was really fitting our hungry need although eventually we all settled on an entree.
The food came in a reasonable time period and was well-portioned. The wine pairing I selected was decent but still I was left lacking. The onion rings looked great and for an extra charge we got salad instead of fries...why does that have to cost extra? Come on folks its 2012, salad is a reasonable alternative in a mid to up-scale minded establishment and shouldn't cost me anything extra!
Our waitress was nice but she really shouldn't be in this line of work...Interstate would have scored higher if there was something exciting or attention-getting about our time there...3 stars was the best I could do. Bookmark removed, on to the next thing...Listed in: 100 Reviews in 2012--Bringing…

I went here expecting something similar to the Rackhouse. they sound similar on paper, but my experience couldn't have been more different.
The service was fine, but the food was just meh. I've tried the BLAT (BLT w/avocado & blue cheese sauce instead of mayo), which was ok but the bacon was super crisp. Granted, I prefer chewy bacon, but this was almost burnt. I've also had the monte cristo, a sandwich I adore for some reason. Perhaps I should just stick to greasy spoon diners for my fix, this had to be the single worse monte cristo I have ever had. The shoestring potatoes (fries that were literally the width of shoestrings) were greasy and more trouble to eat than the calories are worth. Plus, I really like it when places give you a choice on the side, but it seems that just about everything came with those fries.
I would give them another shot and will definitely try drinking there next time. -
Review from Kelly T.
I feel guilty for giving this place three stars since everyone gives it such glowing reviews, but after finally going there, I honestly just don't see what all the fuss is about. Let me clarify: I only had drinks and I was in the back section of the bar with a large, private party. So, no, I haven't had the food. If it changes my mind, I'll update the review.
We had one dedicated server for our section and I know large parties (about 15 people) can be kind of a burden, but the place was dead otherwise. At one point, Dabid P did a spot on impersonation of our server which involved coming in with nose stuck up in the air, looking down on everyone at the table and just giving off an overall "holy than thou" vibe.
Listen, I know being a server sucks and I try very hard to treat any server like a human being, but just because you're the only waiter for the area does not give you the right to act like a little snob. Every drink I ordered involved waving my arms in the air and enlisting the help of other guests to grab his attention. He never once asked me if I would like another drink.
Was my extra dirty martini good? Yes, it was good. But it was saaaaaaaaalty. I suppose this was a good thing because for every sip I had, I had to have several large swigs of water to counteract the great Salt Lake in my glass.
Would I be willing to give this place another shot? Sure. As long as I don't have that server again. -
Review from Cat S.
We came here because of Scoutmob but I'm so glad we found this place! Everything we got was super delicious and SO affordable. We ended up catching the very last bit of Happy Hour prices, so we ordered the sweet potato hot tamale (loved it!) and the fried pickles (not a huge fan of these but the sauce was good!). Then we each started with the tomato soup that came with a grilled cheese on the side. We then shared some kind of roasted chicken salad + the blacked shrimp po'boy. We were stuffed and had enough leftovers to feed a third person, all for a reasonable price! I loved it :)

Decor and atmosphere is great! Service was ok. It would be nice to see some expansions on the vegan menu options. I called ahead of time to make sure there was at least one vegan option and the gentleman on the phone was extremely helpful and enthusiastic that plenty of meals could be made vegan.
Although, with the theme of the place being classic grub from the likes of moms kitchen i will not hold out for many vegan options popping up in the future. Expansive beer/whiskey menu but limited beer on draft. The veggie burger was really tasty and reminded me of felafel for some reason but in a great way. The fries were tasty too. Friends of mine enjoyed a pasta dish and the grilled cheese and soup. I would definitely recommend this place for vegetarians.
Vegan tip: The burger buns are not vegan so veg burger must be ordered w/o the bun. -

We've been here several times and have absolutely LOVED the food (and the spelling bee on Monday nights). The service is friendly and good. Our favorite is the mac n' cheese--a great deal at $5! Draft beer is also a great deal with $3-4 beers. The Monte Cristo and Philly Cheesesteak are also favorites. At brunch, we tried the Hot Brown, Avocado Benedict and Sportsman Breakfast. All three were yummy (even if a little hard on the arteries). The breakfast potatoes are smoky with onions and green peppers--delicious! Our only complaint is that there is no mac'n cheese on the brunch menu.

This is a pretty cool joint, right next to all the art galleries on Santa Fe. They've got an awesome selection of whiskey and bourbon. Their bartenders are great, and they've also got a good selection of non-whiskeys and bourbons. I wound up getting the muffalletta which was spot on delicious. Comfort food at its finest abounds on the menu while you can order any of a number of classic or new cocktails.
I'm looking forward to my next trip back.Listed in: Seriously! I drink this much?

We have really enjoyed our food at Interstate. My favorite is the Cod with Fried Green Tomatoes - delicious! My husband likes the steak - it's really good too. It's priced well too - tastes like a foodie joint but with bigger portions and smaller prices.

How many places you know have deviled eggs on the menu?
This place is pretty sweet and affordable. I also love that it's so close the the first Friday Fun and only a few blocks from lightrail (10th and Osage)
I usually sit at the bar and the service has always been right on. Probably because a bartender can keep a better eye on you. Yummm... whiskey cocktails. I also have enjoyed the vodka lemonade.
I was dissapointed that they no longer have meatloaf on the menu. I could have sworn I had a fantastic bacon wraped meatloaf here just after they opened. I enjoyed the pork tenderloin, monte cristo and avocado benedict (all seperate occasions, of course)
The crowd is mixed. I have been stading in the lounge nearly shoulder to shoulder on a Friday night. Then I have been at brunch with only two tables taken in the dinning room. The neighbor hood needs Interstate. I will be back. -

Affordable and delicious!!
I came on the recommendation of a very clued-in friend, and now I feel inclined to pass on the good word. First off - the beer list is fabulous. Much of it is bottled and canned, and some of the offerings are more than slightly kitschy (genny cream ale on tap!?) but there's a great variety of amazing beers. The cocktails looked divine as well, although we did not partake.
We each started with a beet salad that was piled tall and tasty. Topped with "griddled" green onions that added a little something unique.
My main course was the pork loin with sweet corn succotash. The loin was lean and perfectly cooked, swimming in a pile of succotash. My husband had the fried chicken, and although it was good, it maybe could have been a little less greasy. Is that impossible to ask of friend chicken? His came with a side of pork belly and beans that was magically interspersed with yummy mushrooms. I reached my fork across the table to poach that dish more than a few times throughout the meal.
An enjoyable visit and one we'll be repeating. -

Great atmosphere, and late night drink specials a huge plus.
But honestly the food (and especially the brunch) is very sub-par. It is said to say, but they probably should "re-think" their head chef decision. -

Perfect little kitchen and bar. I just moved my business about a half block away and I can tell right now I'll be a regular here. Great beer and food. It's one of those places where everyone is affable and a place where you can grab a beer and forget about your problems for a while. Love it. Don't change a thing.

Whoa. This place has struck gold. Turns out the formula for gold is :
Delicious comfort food X (huge whiskey selection + the best beer selection I've seen in denver) = GOLD!!!!!
Seriously though, this place has ambience to spare, a great bar area, a nice staff and one helluva pulled pork sandwich. Eat it. Now.
Oh and no big deal, but they brine their fried chicken over night in buttermilk... Get off me.
I plan to frequent this joint as much as humanly possible. -

Be still my beating heart. I think I've found a new nocturnal love to carry me through whiskey drinking evenings. And that love's name is Interstate Kitchen & Bar. Boasting a whiskey menu bigger than most food menus I've encountered Interstate hit me right in my special place from the get-go as I have long, long, long been a fan of drinking the soul warming stuff. And better yet, most of this whiskeys are handcrafted. Bourbon, Tennessee, local, rye, Irish, Scotch, Canadian, it's all here for the sipping.
If whiskey isn't your thing you could also enjoy one of dozens of handcrafted beers from brewers like Oskar Blues, Odell, Twisted Pine, Deschutes, Great Divide, Left Hand, Avery, and many more awesome breweries. Or sip on a divine cocktail including one of a few legit mint juleps I've had in Denver complete with crushed ice and a pewter cup that lets the frost gather on the sides keeping your drink icy cold. They even have a small selection of wines if that's your thing, including two sparkling varieties that are served in stemless glasses as a very generous pour.
And as if the drinks weren't enough Interstate is also pushing out some damn fine grub. I've had the pleasure of having deviled eggs, mac and cheese (probably the creamiest I've had in Denver), a roasted beet salad (with griddled spring onions, blue cheese and pecan dressing), a simple yet delicious burger cooked just the way I asked and served with homemade fries, and the fried chicken with pork belly greens. It was all amazing and I have a hard time not ordering those things again and again when I go back however I do have my eye on the sweet potato hot tamale and pretty much every other thing on the menu that I've yet to put in my tummy.
Lastly, Interstate Kitchen & Bar has a lot going for it in the atmosphere and activity area, too. They have a patio, open air bar area thanks to the garage door, lots of fun, funky decor and an open dining area that is all part of a welcoming package. And they do fun events like the Rock and Roll Spelling Bee on Monday nights or live music in the bar area. All of this and it's in bike-riding distance for me? No wonder I'm swooning over here... -

We went to Interstate Kitchen & Bar on a Friday night and had a fantastic time. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but at a high level, think of a casual bar/restaurant with a slight diner feel that serves great comfort food and has an amazing bourbon list.
For appetizers, we had the sweet potato hot tamale and the chicken livers. Both were excellent, although the livers may not be for everyone. Our main courses were the pulled pork sandwich and the seared ribeye. Both were very good, although I found the onion rings that come with the sandwich a bit greasy. We opted to share the caramel apple tart for dessert, which included a scoop of cinnamon ice cream from Sweet Action. This was also very good.
The only reason I didn't give Interstate 5 stars is the somewhat limited menu. I'd love to see 2-3 more entrees as options. -

300th review!!!
Sadly, it is not based on the excellent food I did not have, or the entertaining spelling bee I did not win. With much regret, I admit that I held back from ordering from the delicious menu (while drooling over everyone else's plates at the June Office Hours on Monday) because I'm . . . on a diet :(
I did, however, partake in a red vodka slushy thanks to Tiffany N, and a few Ginger Bee beers, thanks to Stephen K. (Colorado-brewed beer!)
Loved the atmosphere and convenience from I-25; for a suburbanite like me, who hates driving in the city, this is a big thing, and guarantees that some day I will make it back to try something from the menu.
Can't wait to return! -

Looking for something a little bit different on Monday nights?
Head on over to Interstate Kitchen & Bar for their Rock n Roll Spelling Bee.
Yes Rock n Roll as in the nifty 50's Style Rockabilly.
Do they have food you ask??
Why yes. Yes indeedio.
One of our city's best burgers served with crispy french fries.
The Spelling Bee is emcee'd by the bartender- known as "The Professor" who does put the service on hold during the spelling rounds-- but services everyone with cheap beer specials.
Watch myself and fellow Denver Elite Yelper- and sudden Youtube sensation Stephen K at last week's Rock N Roll Spelling Bee complete with a sudden death dance-off here:

If you want to be naughty and happy this is where you go. When my colleagues and I want a leisurely+comfort+food lunch instead of a light+healthy+snack, we order deviled eggs and fried chicken livers to start. My favorite is the cobb salad drizzled with hot bacon dressing & juicy roasted chicken thighs. Ask for the vegetarian menu for additional options. The veggie stroganoff = roasted garlic-sundried tomato ragout with cheese curd, parmesan & arugula is to die for. Boozy time? Go check out their unique menu of house cocktails including Torpedo Slushy Cones for $1.

Have been meaning to try Interstate Kitchen and Bar for lunch for quite awhile but never got around to it so decided the day before Thanksgiving would work.I was joined by Dawn my United Airlines friend and we both were pleased. We had lunch at noon and the place was close to empty but that didn't matter as our server Crystal made us feel welcome and helped us with our food choices. She is a Gem! I had the Blackened Shrimp Po' Boy Sandwich and it was excellent.Spicy enough and very flavorful.Dawn had the Beet Salad and almost licked her plate.Prices were moderate and I will definitely be back.Big Up to Interstate!

Crossfit lost to Interstate's Happy Hour. Whoops. Interstate has smokin' happy hour deals, large portions, and a relaxed atmosphere. A quiet Wednesday led to bacon corn (huge portions, spicy peanuts, bacon bits). The best part is when you get to the bottom and realize.... there's more bacon!
The fried pickles also come big-sized, well breaded, sweet and tart with complimentary dipping sauce. I also enjoyed a shredded pork slider, which was a bit sweet - not my preferred barbecue style.
Random notes: parking is ample early on. They have a lot of weekly happenings. They're about to release a new marketing promotion using QR codes. -

I know I know 3 reviews. But this is just a fill in to the other two. I finally got to try the bubble gum vodka slush for 1.00. It was refreshing and perfect since I was sick. I would have had another but i really was out of it and it was enough. Food was not something I wanted but my friends had appetizers and main meals. They all seemed happy with their steaks, sandwiches and whatever. I tried a few bites but and what I tried was ok.
However when our desserts arrived I did manage to eat some of the ice cream sundae and the apple tart. It was something yummy with apples and carmel sauce. Really both were a treat.
It is quite a scene there at the bar. We even saw the bike riers and ride down Santa Fe. They seemed like they were enjoying their evening. I like this place but it really has not been very busy the 3 times I have been there. Maybe some people think the neighborhood is not the best. I felt safe enough.
I think I will try some other cool place to dine and rink for awhile. However to find drinks like they make that might not be so easy. Ok desserts and drinks. Great combos.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Interstate is great!
I came here with some friends after an evening filled with First Friday Art Walk and drinks and live music at a little dive off Santa Fe.
I'm not gonna lie, I was VERY inebriated when I stumbled in here, and was really just thrilled to have happened to find a place that was open and serving heavy bar food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with apple slaw and onion rings... And the Mac and cheese... And the deviled eggs. The bartender was thoroughly amused.
Oh. My. God. Everything was AMAZING!! And that's not just because I was in a boozy haze. Ok, I kind of was when I attacked the Mac and cheese... It was a genius move for them to give me that first, because it meant I had sobered up enough to savor every bite of my other two courses.
Once I had devoured (defiled, really) my meal, and rejoined the living- I checked out my surroundings, and found this little spot pretty darn charming. I love the little half of an old truck sitting right inside... It reminds me of a soda fountain I used to love when I was a kid.
Bonus points for the location too! -

If you keep up with my reviews, you know I tried to visit the highly touted restaurant that rhymes with "Reuben's" and I never got the chance to enjoy even a glass of water there due to circumstances beyond my own control. In the talk thread a fellow Yelper mentioned that Interstate served similar food and that I should give it a try, so I did.
The garage/gas station motif works well here; walking in the door I was immediately impressed. Sat us down promptly and the journey began. They apologized up front for being on the slow side due to a party going on in the back room. It doesn't make up for the sometimes slow service but at least they were up front and that does count for alot in my book.
The kids ordered the most massive grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever seen. They were accompanied by a tin can filled to the brim with fresh cut fries; really good. They don't exactly have a kids menu, they just "kiddify" whatever's on the menu, which I think is actually a cool way of handling it.
The older ladies went with sandwiches, one a Philly cheese steak the other a shrimp po' boy. Both looked delicious.
I went with the lamb shank over cheese grits. What a treat that was. Huge lamb shank; tender and tasty, but a little dry, still good.
I sampled about 4 drinks off their extensive whiskey themed drink menu. I also tasted a couple of the "other" drinks. Let's just say I left happy even if all the drinks didn't exactly taste good.
Interstate's good stuff; good stuff indeed.Listed in: 2 1/2 Guest

Went there for brunch. I really liked the layout of the place. Lots of windows so good light for brunch. It was the day of the Denver marathon so the place was almost empty. Brunch menu isn't as extensive as other places but had some great options. I got the shrimp and grits. The veggie blend on the grits was very flavorful and a strong bloody. I was a happy girl.
I would definately go back there again! -
Review from Erin M.
The decor had me at hello. Kitchy, and modern yet vintage with an attention to detail. I almost had to give an extra star out because I am always a sucker for aqua and poppy.
And then there was bacon. On the Mac and cheese the husband I ordered as an appetizer. The bacon definitely gave it some rich flavor, as well as the green onions sprinkled throughout.
Then I ordered a burger with bacon. Both the burger and bacon were dry and nothing special. The fries were overdone and almost chewy, not crisp. Weird. Seasoning was good by not extraordinary.
I really don't drink often, but even I couldn't help but be impressed by the beer list, and my husband was captivated by the many varieties of whiskey.
I've been for happy hour which was great, especially with the garage door open onto the patio, and I think I will stick to that. -

This place is SO COOL!!! Wow...just when you think there isn't anything anyone can do that is new and different this place comes along and slaps you and says HEY!! I'm here!!
Well...this place is...hard to describe. They serve vodka slushies!!! Blue and Red or a combo. How cool is that?! Reminds you of being a kid...but having adult fun. How can that be wrong? It can't.
If you love Whiskey you will LOVE this place. All sorts of whiskeys and tons of new fun drinks to try. I opted for a Vodka drink - the Scenic Overlook. It is Vodka, Citrus juice, Blackberries, Grenadine, and Soda with a half a lemon wedge in it. SUPER YUMMY!!!!! And I'm usually not a huge fan of crazy drinks...but I loved this one. TAG might have a rival on their hands for fun crazy drinks menu!
Their menu is also super awesome. They a giant mac and cheese on their "snack" menu for $5. This is no snack! I didn't get to try it but my friend did. She said it could have used a bit more seasoning but she ate the entire thing :).
I had the tomato soup with grilled cheese. The tomato soup was delicious. The grilled cheese was very basic. Just plain ole white bread with plain ole cheddar cheese. They could crank this up a notch with some spices or seasonings or maybe even throw in some white cheese...but even if they don't it's still good enough to eat! I'd order it again (maybe bring with me a little italian seasoning in my purse to throw on it...hehe).
We were here on a Monday night and missed the Spelling Bee but it looked like so much fun! What a cool mix of "trivia night" with Spelling words! There are bonus trivia questions and apparently drawing questions (like draw a picture). I definitely want to try to come back for this sometime.
LOVE LOVE!! Will be back!! -

A really rather comfortable and accommodating bar and grille with a kinda hipster flair. I enjoyed it.
Cruising down Broadway on a Saturday afternoon I tried a couple of places that seemed too crowded for my state of mind. I moved a few streets West and stumbled upon Interstate, which was strangely somewhat vacant for a Saturday at about 6:30.
The barstools are these gray metal and pressed-board affairs that look straight out of shop class, as does the remains of the old Chevy pickup in the corner. The menus are diamond-plate clipboards, and there's plenty of garage-a-riffic flourishes around, underpinned by a polished concrete floor. There's plenty of glass to allow a view of whatever passes along Santa Fe.
I had a vodka martini, which I ordered up and and without specifying "dirty". It arrived with olive juice. I didn't complain because I enjoy seeing how different bartenders interpret "martini". For such a simple drink there sure are a lot of potential recipes.
The muffaletta sandwich was tasty and just about the right size. The potato chips (made on-site) were a nice touch. A guy sitting next to me had the ribeye, which looked and smelled irresistible.
The crowd was decidedly hipster, right down to the beach cruisers locked up outside and the guys in the PBR shirts drinking PBR's. Don't go if nerdy eyeglasses and overheard discussions about how Yo La Tengo has gone mainstream piss you off.
The bartender told me that Saturday is a slow night for them, and that they're busiest Thursdays and Fridays. He said it's a bit of a neighborhood place more than a destination.
I would definitely consider going back. -

4 words: late night happy hour.
From midnight on, be prepared for delicious, oh-so-cheap food and drink.
Yes, it's a hipster bar. I've had some bartenders give me attitude in the past, but I was blown away by how friendly the waitresses were the last time I stopped through.
The atmosphere is sweet, with a nice smoking section out back. I ended up hula hooping with some drunk girl in the grassy section beside the road near closing time. Don't know why I threw that in there, but it sure was fun.
Go after the First Friday art walk. It will be busy, but worth it. -

Made it back for dinner-so here's my update. There was 7 of us, and it was about 9, we had to wait a few minutes for them to get our table ready, which was fine but after we were seated, they didn't give us menus. We tried flagging a few people down and never got anyone's attention. Once we got menus it didn't take long for all of us to decide on our dinners. Monte Cristos, pulled pork, burgers...all pretty good. I'm wondering if they make their own condiments here. I wanted to ask our server, but when I asked her if the buns they used were pretzel buns, she sort of snapped at me and sharply answered they were brioche buns and walked away, so I dare not ask her about the condiments. What makes me wonder is that when I asked for some ranch, she said they don't serve ranch there, but do have a home-made peppercorn dressing. It was good, and went well with my huge onion rings, but I did really want ranch. I also noticed they serve all the condiments in their own little dishes.
Maybe someday if I go back to Interstate, I'll have a friendly server I can ask. Now, in her defense, there were a few tables, and ours was large as well as another. But I literally saw her running, and to me, that's just not necessary. It was late, everyone there seemed to be laid back and enjoying themselves. But running through the restaurant?!
As for the food, my pulled pork was a bit on the dry side, but ok flavor wise. It was served with a spicy pickle and an apple slaw. The Monte cristo's were good, and the shoe string fries were also ok. Everyone who had a burger enjoyed it, but didn't have anything spectacular to say about it other than the buns. And yes, the brioche buns are good, really good. They have a dense texture and egg wash on the top.Listed in: Brunch-a-holic!

This was recommended to me by a friend, and so I thought I would check it out for their Happy Hour last week.
I have to say, I was a little hesitant when I saw where it was, but you never know where you can find your next hidden gem. Well, I found it. What an great happy hour menu! Simple, yet to the point and I had to choose a couple items to give them a whirl. The drinks were also creative and the bartender was so helpful and attentive. I love when you go to a place like that and are able to get that great service, food and overall experience.
I will definitely be making a trip back here at some point as well as tell some more of my friends! -

Now that I'm calmer, I've decided to re-post. I did get an email from management regarding this review, but it was basically full blown denial of any mistreatment and the least sincere apology ever.......
Interstate private party semi-fail. Normally I don't like to Yelp angry.....but after of course patting myself on the back for finding such a cool spot to hold my professional organization's networking happy hour, I was instantly removing my foot from my mouth at the end of the night and dishing out apologies to our sponsors.
Food, awesome! Hipster waitresses, great! Coming at me and my event sponsors and executive board members like we are common trash and trying to not leave a tip? TERRIBLE. Reel back in that 'tude. You should be kissing our asses for even being in your restaurant, since every time I'm there it's been SO NOT BUSY. But I loved you anyway Interstate. And I pushed for you at board meetings to have the next event. And now I look like a moron.
I've been a waitress, busser, food runner, and even a hostess in years prior, and would never even entertain the thought of not leaving a tip. Maybe you should try to have a decent conversation with some of your professional adult patrons, explaining the mishap that YOUR staff told us gratuity was included and that is why we did not leave anything additional. On top of that, "Mr. Oh So Helpful and accommodating on the phone" couldn't even put the phone down to meet me (the event planner) or speak to me at the end of the night when I tried to offer an apology and a $20 out of my wallet. (He took the $20 though...)
And even at the end, only little blonde waitress was nice to us when my sponsors who doled out a couple of hundred $$ for the event, asked to take home the chicken livers, and pulled pork and deviled eggs, and the from the rest came MORE ATTITUDE.
I get that you are hipsters. And I liked it in the beginning because the service was always good. But I do not appreciate the way we were treated tonight. So make sure you tip, or I'm pretty sure you will be chased out of the restaurant and screamed at.
Edit: And then you will get an email saying "No really I'm right, you Ms. Customer are not. I don't think I'm over reacting when you made at least 7 in the party feel like crap. Sorry Interstate the love has faded, and I am your cheerleader no more. -

Wanting to grab a few drinks, but knowing that a few in the group just played 18 holes and have had nothing but beers all day, we knew we needed a drinking destination with adequate food. By the name alone, we were certain Interstate could provide both. Little did we know that they could also provide toy race car driving as well!
We grabbed a spot at the bar and proceeded ordering a few Breckenridge brews along with a few whiskeys from their expansive menu. Unfortunately, me being the happy hour snob that I am, I was left a bit disappointed in the absence of drink specials until midnight. They could at least discount mason jar concoctions.
The menu looks awesome! Having already eaten, I was still eyeing the Montecristo and burger with fried egg ordered by a few in our group. As the food disappeared and more rounds were had, the bar started to liven up a bit. It was to our surprise that there was a toy racecar track set up in the back room. Maybe as a prelude to the Daytona 500 that was to occur the next day, we were able to take a few trial runs and compete in what was known as the Bacon Classic if we should choose. We partook in a few trial runs, grew board, and refrained from the competition. All in all, it was a great lead up to the Daytona 500 that of course I did not watch the following day. -

Fried livers are wonderful.
Bacon popcorn. That it exists is remarkable and wonderful. In actuality it's not quite as flavorful as I had hoped, but still good. The peanuts did more for the flavor than the bacon.
Went one evening to eat at the bar ... was very sociable and friendly scene. I don't normally feel like I fit in as a stranger at any bar I might frequent, but this felt welcoming from bartender and patrons alike. -

Amazing food. Amazing drinks. There is a lot to be said when the owner is there night after night running dishes, taking orders and washing glasses. The quality of the food to the price is wonderful!!! The drinks are well-made and the service is solid. I adore Stuben's but parking is a nightmare ad it's filled to the brim, from now on after work I will grab my favorite book a plate of deviled eggs and an Old Fashioned at the bar at Interstate.
I attended Denver Whiskey Club here and they were the most amazing hosts with a beautiful set up.
A few days later we returned with a friend from San Fran. We all loved it and had drinks, apps, and dinner for less than $50 total for 3 people- and most of the ingredients were made in-house...yum! -

I can't say it enough, but I *love* Interstate! I love that this has so far been a 'hidden gem' in Denver and I've never had to wait very long for a table.
Also, they have a back room that can be reserved for large private parties and they are very accommodating with reservations!
The prices are second to none - I got a LARGE bowl of chicken 'n dumplings and a side salad for $11!
The food is great - kind of a new interpretation of the basics like grilled cheese and tomato soup!
I really hope this place continues to bring in business! If you get the chance, check it out! -

Went last night with a party of 10. Interesting decor - feels kind of like a really fancy gas station. We were sat, placed drink orders and waited 30 minutes for them to arrive. This is not the way to start a meal. They said they were busy and short staffed, and it showed during the whole meal.
Drinks arrived and we went ahead and ordered another round and appetizers. Our waitress left halfway through taking our order to help expedite on another table. We finally got our order in - we are almost an hour into dinner thus far. Tried the deviled eggs. The came with green onions and a little dot of caviar. All I tasted was green onion. The eggs were also very wet, which is quite unappealing. Half of our table didn't have water at this point - we had to ask for it.
I had the pulled pork sammie with green apple slaw and onion rings. It was damn good. It was a really refined take on Carolina barbeque, which I loved. Others had the shrimp po boy, which was great on the flavor front but needed more shrimp. My gal had a wedge salad with cracklins that arrived without dressing. We were about an hour and 45 minutes in at this point, and just wanted to get the hell out of there. At this point in the meal, our table was absolutely covered with empties - they did not clear one glass during the whole meal, nor did they refill waters.
Overall it was disappointing, as the menu has some delicious looking dishes, but the service was really awful. I know how hard it is to serve a 10-top, and they admitted they were understaffed, but that isn't a valid excuse in my book. It resulted in a really poor experience. One highlight was that it was pretty inexpensive. If it was priced higher, I would have given it one star. The only way I'd go back would be to get take out. -

Great place! I'll keep it short: The french fries were well worth getting again and again and again and again........
Great prices, nothing over $10 on the lunch menu. Had the blackened shrimp po' bo. Not bad, but I'll try something else next time.
The staff was very friendly too. -

Should I be worried about Interstate? I love this place, but the last few times I've been here (lunch then a happy hour) it's been pretty deserted.
A group of us stopped in last week after Art for Life at Artwork Network - an amazing event, but amazingly crowded and hot. We wanted a drink and wanted to be relaxed - so we strolled the few blocks down to Interstate.
We sat in the loungey area by the bar and coveted the antique luggage while snuggling on the couches. A bunch of folks were on the patio, but only one person at the bar and only four people in the dining room when we arrived. We ordered cocktails and wine only - try the Basil Hayden's with champagne (a stiff pricetag at $8 for a flute but soooo tasty) and they came out pretty quickly. Our server was a bit gruff, and avoided us several times while waving him down twice for a tab, but everyone has a bad day every now and then. Right?
Anyhoo, I'm still a fan of Interstate and am excited to see they are launching a brunch menu starting September 12th. Can't wait to try this out. Who's with me?Listed in: Places I like to get my drink…, Comfort Food, Good for Groups, Awesome Appetizers, Bacon!
