Waaaay out on the far edge of Bakersfield is an IHOP that has the misfortune of sharing its building space with a Shell gas station. Don't get me wrong here. There's nothing wrong with a gas station and there's nothing wrong with an IHOP. However, the two together in one spot makes for an interesting combination, to say the least.
This IHOP is smaller than most. Service was a bit on the slow side, though (which was a surprise with the lack of customers). The food was like that of any other IHOP. What was off-putting during the meal was the steady stream of gas-buyers that strolled into the IHOP side of the building. Some were absolutely fierce-looking, while others looked like tranny hot messes...
If you're ever on the 5 north, past the Tejon Pass, and somewhere in BFE, this IHOP is on the Stockdale exit. Don't get confused as this trademark blue-roofed building is right next door to another blue-roofed building: that of the California Highway Patrol. Click it or ticket...
I was pleasantly surprised by this IHOP which is almost literally in the middle of nowhere. The food was a welcome releif from the neighboring Denny's. Service good, clean, well-lit. It shares bathrooms with the convenience store attached to it---you may be jockying with other travel-weary people with the same urgent needs.
