I'm a fan of Intercontinental hotels and my husband was nice enough to book a spa package here for my birthday.  The location is great (except that construction on Kilbourne!), decor is my style very modern and cool, restaurants/lounges are outstanding and the staff is very helpful.

The rooms are outfitted w/nice flat screen tv's but w/very limited channels (my husband was a little cranky he couldn't find the Bucks game even though it was on downstairs in the bar Clear!).  Lots of ammenities in the room, even an intimacy kit for all your personal needs for a night of fun...!  Room service had a big selection including some fun themed snacks (for like movie night or Milwaukee local beers/sausages, etc.).

I'd definately recommend...  our only complaint was our room was stinky due to a problem w/our sink in the bathroom.  A black gunk kept rising up from the drain which was scary but we dealt with it and survived!  The front desk staff was very embarassed about it but we didn't get a discount or anything.  This was a bit pricey but our package included $100 at Kil@Wat which has wonderful food & $150 at the Pfister WellSpa which is amazing.  Great place to splurge!

The Wyndham Milwaukee became the Intercontinental Milwaukee earlier this year (January 1, 2007). Prior to the renaming, the hotel underwent a major renovation.

LOCATION
Besides being newly remodeled, location is one of the Intercontinental's main selling points. It's located in the business district and is only a couple blocks from the lake, the Milwaukee Museum of Art and downtown breweries (on Water Street). (Note: the Kilbourn street bridge is currently under construction, so if you're using a computer map software, you may need to re-route.)

The hotel is actually part of a mini-complex which includes the historic Pabst Theater, an office building and a large underground garage.

ROOMS
The rooms (with king beds) are new and spacious with firm and comfy beds and  a small separated living room area with built-in couches and large flat screen TV.

A couple drawbacks though...the hotel does not provide any in-room mini-fridges and there is no way to lower the room temperature under 68 degrees. These proved themselves to be a major annoyance when the temperatures outside soared past 95 degrees...

SERVICE
We had a friendly, smooth and uneventful check-in. The front desk woman was quite helpful and informed us about the parking rates ($20/day with unlimited in-and-out privileges). However check-out the next morning was another story. The hotel slipped our pre-printed receipts under our door with a place for us to sign. So I delivered mine to the front desk with my signature (they gave me strange stares) and they told one of my friends that she didn't need to sign it and gave it back to her. When she returned home, she found out that the hotel had overcharged her $40. She called the managing director the next morning and it was straightened out, but the front desk clerks unprofessionalism detracted from our overall stay.
