Time Arrived: 7:45pm Wednesday
Time Wait: No Reservations, 10 minutes wait
Party: 2 People
Atmosphere: Comfortable, Outdoor Seating
Food/Drink: Between 2 girls, we shared two appetizers and a lasagna entree.
The Pesto bruschette was DELICIOUS! The pesto sauce was heavily piled on and it had a perfect mixture of garlic and all the yummy pesto goodness. I would definitely get this again.
The Truffled Egg Toast is this restaurant's most popular dish. Our waiter said they have guests who before they sit down order this dish. Maybe the expectation was super high, but this was just above average. The egg was ooey gooey, like an eggs benedict, but I couldn't really taste the truffle flavor. However, the good part to this dish was the toast, which was cooked great. It was perfectly crispy and soft on the inside.
The eggplant lasagne was yummy! Nothing that blew me out of the water, but it was certainly good lasagna.
Service: Not sure if it was cause between me and my friend we didn't order drinks and didn't order too much food, but I felt like our waiter didn't pay too much attention to us; meaning our service was not as attentive as it should've been.
Overall: The overall atmosphere of this place is cozy and perfect for a warm day. However, one thing I would note is that half their menu is written in Italian. To compensate they give you this translation sheet so you can compare which words mean what in English. I found this a bit cumbersome. Other than that, the food quality was great! -

Hype. Pure hype.
'Inoteca while having a cool vibe, really should step up their game on the food and service. Our waiter seemed lost, almost spilled our drinks twice (we saved it), and couldn't elaborate very much on anything on the menu. The food was 'meh'', from the salad, to the egg panini, to the farro with "seasonal fruits". FYI - those "seasonal fruits" are actually not in season for this region, and furthermore, were DRIED. You'd think seasonal would imply fresh. The panini was alright, but the sauce on the side was the best part.
Ohhh ever-present hype-machine. You need to let this one go. -

Ate: cheese plate (can't remember what), panini and calamari salad
Drank: wine (also can't remember - rough night)
Liked: Service was friendly, quiet and romantic
Disliked: Nothing really, but also nothing stood out as great either.
Chicken: I think the panini had chicken pesto.
Would mom like it?: Eh.
Wait: None
Would I go back: Eh.
Recommend: Seats by the big window are nice for people watching. -

The ladies and I were enjoying the beautiful weather and strolling the LES on ma burfday and low and behold we landed in front of Inoteca. There was a corner table outside and... it was open... with no wait... we've hit the jackpot.
We soon had full glasses of a lovely Rose. There really aren't many better things in life than sippin' delicious (and may I add VERY reasonably priced) wine in the sunshine. Hello Happiness!
Inside the patrons looked equally as giddy as the sun streamed in through large open windows, and they too had large glasses of vino in front of them. The place has a very welcoming feel.
The service was great and our waiter quite friendly. He brought over his resident Wine Guru when my resident Wine Snobbies had a lot of questions... hehe... we ended up with a great bottle though so I'm not complaining. Can't wait to come back sometime and try some food! -
Review from Joyce H.
This place was yummy, and a total unexpected find as we were sick of waiting in line for barrio chino. The star of the night was the truffle egg toast...crispy toast with egg cooked in truffle oil on top. That was such a unique and tasty appetizer! We also tried the pesto bruschetta and the pesto was very thick and flavorful. Main course was the eggplant lasagna, which was okay, just your average lasagna. The egg toast basically made the meal and that's why this is a four star review instead of three!

Food is good (mussels and lasagna were tried) but expensive for small potions. Need to know Italian to read the menu. Lasagna is fried eggplant based, so not really lasagna

Love 'intocea. I've been here a few times and the food is always delicious (and the service is friendly). The last time I was there, I had the prosciutto, mozzarella, basil pesto & pickled red onion Panini and it was perfect...melted cheese, salty prosciutto, slightly sweet pickled red onions on a perfectly toasted Panini. Amazing. They also have this great sparkling red wine (lambrusca?) that I can't get enough of.
Overall, an excellent choice especially if you find yourself in the neighborhood (which, unfortunately, I'm don't anymore). -

Walked by this place during the day and decided to give it a go that evening. There was about a half-hour wait which was fine.
Awesome meal. Fresh and wonderful. Had the beet salad, the polenta and tuna tramezzini. Everything was great. Too bad we didn't know that tramezzini is basically a sandwich..oh well. Polenta was very rich and fluffy--nice job.
Service was ok but our main waitress/server disappeared and left the rest of the service up to runners. Thankfully the runners were good and covered our servers butt. As others have said the service style could be worked on a bit. Maybe they should splurge on a good head server that tweak the system so the wait staff is on par with the food.
If management is reading this. Get some different music, 80's pop won't cut it in a restaurant like this. -

Just had brunch at 'inoteca. Expected a nice warm yum out of this place.... But I got bland mehh. Maybe the usual chef was out today...
We ordered:
Fontina White Truffle Egg Toast - Glorified egg in a basket. Poor egg to bread ratio.
Steak and Eggs-
Steak cooked well but lacked seaaoning and they don't have hot sauce.
Egg on top of fried polenta with pancetta
polenta wasn't as good as I've had. Egg is egg.... Pancetta was the only saving grace since it's salty..
Now we're eating across the street at Wolfnights to save our tastebuds.. Tell you how it is soon. -

ASTORIA, NY
Very good Italian restaurant, and in a city with so many options, 'inoteca holds its own, and at very reasonable prices! In fact, they could charge more for the quality of meal, and I'd happily pay it.
Start with a bottle of wine. The wine list is huge, and lucky for you there's a simmolier on staff ready to recommend you a great bottle. She actually recommended one of the cheaper bottles in the $40 range, which shows she wasn't just trying to hike the bill.
The bruschetta should be your next stop... They'll give you as many or as little as you want, and will mix and match! The Fig and Marscapone, the Pesto, and the Roasted Peppers were three options that are to die for!
The Truffle Egg Toast is also a great starter. It's crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and while it's very tasty, it's also very light. Much better than stuffing yourself full of bread!
Our table was split three ways for dinner; pasta, meat, and dinner salad... And everyone was super satisfied! I sampled the Pork Chop served over sautéed mushrooms, and it was exquisite. The sauce it was served in was delicious. The Pasta Alfredo was rich and creamy, and you cannot beat the perfectly cooked homemade pasta. We also got two orders of Brussels Sprouts on the side... They were so good the first time, we needed more!
As far as atmosphere and service go, there was nothing special. We waited a good while before putting in our wine order, and again when putting in our food. The waitress also wasn't full of recommendations.
That being said, you came for the food, and the food you shall enjoy! -
Review from Mike C.
FIrst of all, I don't get as pissed as other reviewers about service issues but 'inoteca has a serious service problem and that problem's name is whatever the hell your waiter's name is that night. The first time I went the guy was shocked that I wasn't fluent in Italian and seemed to want to direct me to the nearest Olive Garden because I didn't know what "tramezzini" meant. I think it's off the charts douchey to not translate your menu at all, especially if the waiters get so put out by questions.
The most recent time I experienced my fiercest and most tactless upsell ever. We were asking for a comparison of the house red and a comparable one two dollars most expensive and our waitress made a big deal of saying she "really didn't like" the house wine. What? I'm not asking about what you like, I want to know what it tastes like. It's crazy trashy to tell a customer than an item on your menu sucks. And all for the sake of two dollars?
Whew I guess that was building up for a while. But the food is good as long as you order right. I think in general small plates are the way to go. The bruschetta is pretty uniformly great (especially the ricotta fresca) and the tuna and caper tramezzino is light and fresh. It's nice to have an Italian place that dispenses with the boilerplate pasta and pizza that a lot of places get lost in. But your enjoyment of this four star food is gonna depend on how much 1 star shit you're ready to take from the wait staff. Your call. -
Review from Darwin G.
A great place for tasty Italian. ranted, a $11 panini or a really small piece of lasagna for $14 might seem a bit pricey, but it's New York after all and entrees at other restaurants can easily run for more. The panini was delicious and quite filling. I felt a bit bad for my friends who ordered the vegetarian lasagna because it was so small, but they really loved it.
Therefore, I would definitely use this place for a date. (Aren't I allowed to be a relatively cheap date if I'm paying for dinner?) -

The food is good, no doubt, just wasn't my kind of food. I had purchased a Gilt certificate for brunch and they still provided great service.
My biggest complaint is that their menu is pretty difficult to read if you don't understand the language. The boyfriend and I spent a good amount of time on google trying to figure what some stuff was.
The food was good, it really was. I just wasn't a huge fan of it. I know, that doesn't make sense, but the quality of the food was great and they definitely put a great deal of time and attention to how the food is being cooked. I just really wasn't a fan of it at all. Even the mimosa seemed a little off.
The paninis here are great. I'd definitely come back for that, but I think for now, I'm going to pass on the brunch.1 Previous Review: Show all »

start with a limoncello ice-cold shot.
then just pick from the menu. anything and everything is fresh, crisp, clean. order a bunch of stuff. get some cheese. some crazy meats. baked stuff. pressed stuff. pickled stuff. ask for stuff fresh from the farmer's market that day.
sit at the bar. get extra attention. -

So my friends and I decided to try this place out instead of going to our usual places in the area. And while I've been here before, I don't really remember the service being so bad. The food was delicious as usual, but the service was so so so bad. Next time, I'm definitely going to Bruschetteria - my usual.
The waiter was snarky when we tried to ask him about the menu, and it got worse as the meal went on. Then, he told us way later after he already poured half a glass of wine that they were out of the wine that we had ordered. They forgot to take the wine out of the bill, but that was fixed later. It seemed like since we looked like young college kids (which we are), they treated us worse than they treated the other patrons at the restaurant. Not cool.
But in terms of the food, the paninis were great and huge - definitely worth the $11. I had the bruschette, which while delicious, weren't worth what I paid. But I don't think I'm coming back here anytime soon - no matter how much I love the egg truffle toast. Also, the cocktail was about half-3/4 ice. Not worth the $12.
So -2 stars for the service. But the food is solid, and it's definitely worth coming here ONLY if Bruschetteria is full. -

The cocktails were very good though.
Had a cumpari mixed drink...very nice..and strong!
I recommend Inoteca if your in the area. -
Review from Lisa T.
Nice, reliable neighborhood spot, perfect for a long chat and/or catch up with girlfriends. Good Italian tapas, salads, bruschettas, paninis, etc. Good pours of decent Italian wines.
Only three stars because I feel that the menu is a little limiting, and it's nothing spectacular. You won't be wowed, but you won't ever be disappointed. Particularly nice staff who are helpful, chill and let you stay for a while and relax. Nice atmosphere on a lively corner. -

The menu is very hard to read as there are bunches of Italian words. Meatball is great, also they have decent salad. Bruchette is extremely rich and tasty. Will come back for brunch some time. I enjoy the corner table beside the windows to the street. The atmosphere is great as well.

What a great experience!
We were greeted by the manager Luis who was friendly and delightful. The food and ambiance was great. A true gem to the neighborhood.
Luis and staff, thank you for the great experience. My party had a great time and we can't wait to come back and try the truffle egg toast. -

Must try this place. The truffle toast is very different and delicious. Prices here are decent and extensive wine list. I was not pleased with their waiters service. This place was not busy for the waiters to forget orders. I wouldn't go back. Not worth the trip to LES.

This place has an amazing selection of Italian wines. The fare here is slightly off the beaten path when it comes to Italian cuisine. It's definitely on the light side so it's perfect for that interim bite to eat of your evening. My favorite parts of this place are the decor and location. You're right in the thick of the trendy LES bars and it's a classy place.

I used to love inoteca... it's right next to my apartment, open early for brunch and late if you're out having drinks and need some real food.
However, their service has gone way down hill, and their price to quality/what you get ratio is bad. Every time the bf and I leave there from brunch, we spend $80+ on a so-so meal. There's def better options in the neighborhood, and a great new italian spot right down the street (rivington & allen). -
Review from Joey S.
First off, the waitress was really not friendly at all and felt the need to correct me on the Italian pronunciation of the menu items we ordered, which was super cool and probably a good idea on her part.
Past that, the food at 'inoteca was good, but not great. My girlfriend and I ordered drinks and bunch of items to pick on including meatballs, riceballs, pesto bruschetta along with a chicken, rosemary and arugula sandwich. The riceballs and bruschetta were really good but the meatballs kind of sucked and the sandwich was nothing special.
As far as the restaurant's ambiance/ set-up goes it is a really nice and pleasant interior. We also were lucky because we got to sit right next to the open window on a beautiful day, so aside from the fact that there was a really annoying girl and her tool boyfriend outside you could not have asked for a better arraignment. I almost want to give 'inoteca a 4 rather than the 3, but the meal just was not impressive and thinking about how lame the waitress still pisses me off like 8-9 months later so I am going to stick with the 3. If I find they ended up canning that chick who served us I'll knock it up to a 4. -
Review from Dan S.
I started writing this review several months ago when I'd only gone to the wine bar. I had it marked down for 2 stars. Why? I don't even know that much about italian wine but when I came (with a fellow wino, i'll add), we knew more than the waiter about the varietals and what was on the menu. And received some bad recos.
However, I went out on a limb and came back for a lowkey family style dinner on my birthday with a bunch of friends (mainly because of its location). $39 per person and we had charcuterie galore, antipasti to our hearts' content, all means of pasta and baked and breaded meat dishes, cheese, and desserts that we ravaged despite being full, and EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. The wine was great (received better recos, this time actually from a sommelier) AND it was cheap, around $30 a bottle for some really nice reds.
So I take back my almost 2 star review. 4 stars for being one of the best deals in the city I've had so far. I'm not sure how this rating will stand up for a normal dinner, but definitely looking forward to revisiting the wine bar and am relieved to know this option exists next time i'm looking for a group get together. -

Delicious food but the service was... pretty bad. I enjoyed the cheese platter and a delicious salad, but our waitress took long to provide us with water, refills, and forgot to bring out our dessert. She had forgotten that we ordered it.

The staff is not very helpful and act as thought they hate their job...or lives.
The downstairs eating area is dark and grim. The food portions are tiny and my waitress was not knowledgeable on the menu.
EXPENSIVE as hell too.
Perhaps this place is comfortable with their regulars here and not interested in growing their business. I'd rather not go back. -
Review from Helen B.
This place is good. They have great salads and good paninis. You should pass on the bruschetta, not memeorable and quite soggy... but DO NOT PASS on the kale salad and lamb pannini or the truffle egg toast. My friends had rave reviews for the smoked trout and mushroom salad. The wine is good and it's cozy, but service is very spotty.
When in LES and looking for some reliable bites and good wine in a cozy place, check out Inoteca. I do prefer Corsino all around to Inoteca, so head west to the West Village. -

oh 'inoteca
When I visited you in 2006 for the first time I remember the delicate proscuitto, the loud but comfy ambiance, the delicious truffle egg toast, great wine...
WHAT HAPPENED ?!?!?!?
Went here a week ago, although it was a Friday night I get that a place can get really busy and don't expect stellar quality, but I didn't expect to be treated like a dog either.
The waitress was beyond rude and inattentive, the food mediocre at best. The Truffle Egg Toast was ..... BAD !!!!! STALE! Almost inedible, and I brought my girlfriend here raving about it the whole time, this was my joker card to save the night and it was horrible
Needless to say when you drop the ball like that on what used to be a great place your business will suffer and so begins the downward spiral to restaurant hell. -

Very impressed by Inoteca--especially the vegetarian options. Their chickpea fritters were incredible, the polenta delicious and great eggplant lasagna without the pasta.
Zoe also definitely knows her wine. The list is deep and international--which I guess you'd expect anyway.
I'd recommend sitting downstairs. -

Came to this place after a round of drinking, and this place offered great food to soak up all the existing alcohol, and then comes more alcohol!
Truffle egg toast was amazing, as everybody says, but drinks were not too strong. We had vodka and soda, and we had to get seconds.
Love those tall tables and tall seats, lovely! -

I had dinner here this week and was not at all impressed. The food was decent, but so many great restaurants in NYC, that I will never spend another dime in this place.
The calamari was overly fried and was 90% breading and 10% calamari, though it came HIGHLY recommended by the waiter.
The entrees were mediocre at best.
The service was by far the worst. There were too many wait staff and few patrons and we rarely saw our waiter. After we placed an order, we sat there and waited 30 minutes for the horrible calamari, followed by an hour and a half until we got our meal. The wait staff kept coming over and filling our waiters and drinks and it was obvious they thought we were done and frankly, were waiting for us to leave, only to find out they completely forgot to order our dinners.
I generally give a business praise when it is deserved and frankly understand what a bad review can do, and feel bad about that, but this place needs a hard look over to improve on their quality and service.
Last note: After all that and the horrible service and food, dinner for two with a drink each was $80 before the tip. No good. -

This has been a go-to place for nice little dates for me for a little too long maybe.... (i hope they aren't judging me!). I just can't help but love the ambiance and sharing small plates with your date. The bruschetta is a-mazingggg. Pesto and ricotta with honey are my two favorites. Cheese plate is always delicious and I loved the eggplant "lasagna". Market salads are fresh and delicious way to round out the meal. This is definitely a great place to take a date or just friends, and I've never had to wait for a table. Service is usually pretty good as well.

Oh inoteca, you seductive little wine place, you.
Inoteca is the venue version of a very charming and irresistable man. I was swept off my feet at first sight as I approached this adorable space with large open windows and outdoor seating, lit by candle light and adorned with beautiful wooden tables.
Unfortunately I didn't stay for dinner, but I had a wonderful time catching up with a friend over a glass of wine and a shared cheese plate, made up of 7 cheeses that were chosen at random for us by the waiter (though you can choose the 7 yourself). The cheeses were accompanied by a wonderful medley of accompaniments, such as herbed honey and spiced almonds and some crostini that we asked for. I was espeically surprised by how delicious the gorgonzola was, considering I generally can't stand that particular cheese.
As for the wine, I was very happy with my selection (I got the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Spinozzi ), though I have to say that as far as the options for by-the-glass go, the cheaper wines offered are really not very good. I can't speak for their wine selection at large since we didn't order a bottle, but if you're ordering by the glass I highly recommend going for one of the higher-end options (from $10-13 a glass), and preferably not a blend.
In other words, perfect place for a date, or for a warm and fuzzy catch-up with a friend. -
Review from John K.
inoteca's a safe joint that doesn't really spark any urges to blab about the place. My sentiments may not be reflected by the general public, as nearly 500 reviewers at an impressive four-star clip have decided to give inoteca a verbal shout. Don't get me wrong - it's definitely a nice place, but for me, its magnetic pull comes not from the great food, but because I know it won't disappoint. I've been here a handful of times on various occasions, so I guess it's time to chime in.
Starting with the food - nothing spectacular, but all good. The beet salad is always a nice starter, and the portion is good enough for three (as an app, not a full salad). Entrees - the lasagna's tasty bet but it's fairly small and oily and could use something on the side to cut the tangy-ness. Drinks came quickly but were weak. The wait-staff was attentive and quick. The overtly friendly attitude with the 'let me tell you about my recent trip to CVS' kinda chit-chat isn't my thing, but if you like a little ping-pong with your server, knock yourself out. I want the wait staff to be the last thing I remember about the meal. Kinda like referees in sports; the ones you never hear about or remember are the ones who do the best jobs.
Nutshell: Safe bet, nothing spectacular, one of the nicer spots in the area. Good for dates or for group of friends. -
Review from Liz B.
My "What?! no pasta?" complaint got some -typical Italian- remarks by my friends, but I suppose a true Italian menu does not revolve around pasta after all.
I came to 'inoteca STARR-ving after the All Starr African Rum Kick Off Event down the block at Hotel Chantelle. 9:30 on a Tuesday night and it was packed, all for one 2-top by the window... just for us :)
We started with the calamari salad and a bowl of olives (not on the menu, you have to ask for them). The calamari salad was delish; spicy and salty and perfect. The olives tasted as if they were picked right off the vice (not even sure what this actually tastes like) and we asked for some bread to dip in the oil.
I got the fish special; I figured if they didn't have pasta I was going for the fish... fluke with sunchoke puree & fingerling potatoes. The sunchoke puree was a bit sweet for my liking but everything else was amazing. -
Review from Alice W.
The decor for dinner is dim w/ candles. A good date spot.
I came here specifically for the truffle egg toast because I love truffle oil so much. I could not even take 1 bite of it. They must have put too much truffle oil on it or something because it smelled of a combination of dirty feet and bad breath. I would have returned the dish except my friend loved it and ate the whole thing! It must be my senses or something.
We also ordered the polenta and their salmon special. I also did not like the polenta (probably more my own personal preference since I have never tried this dish until now). It's supposed to be a corn meal type bread but the consistency was so unpleasing and the Ragu sauce was bland and unpalatable. The fish was fresh and tender and was the only thing I could eat.
A $50 meal for 2 appetizers and 1 entry and I could not touch 2 of the dishes. Definitely will not be returning. -

Holy awesome italian food! It's a good sign when you're at an italian restaurant and 1) everything is in italian and 2) the 2 italian's you're with are delighted to see some food on the menu that they've not seen at any other italian join!
We had a large group, so we ordered so much, I can't even remember everything but here's a sample: suppli (fried risotto balls), a few paninis (all were good), lasagnette di melanzane (eggplant lasagna), polenta, pollo arrosto and a few desserts. One of the best meals I've had in a while and I would go back in a heartbeat.
