Battling with curly hair all my life, I went from every type of straightening perm possible. Exhausted with this lifelong battle with my hair, I've decided to grow out my curly hair but winced just thinking about the growth process (painnfullll!!!)

After exploring different options, I opted to go with the Brazilian Blowout since it eventually washes out but is great for my type of hair. Only problem was I needed a stylist who didn't take any shortcuts in doing this treatment with my hair.

Enter Jenna. She uses the hair straightener recommended for the Brazilian Blowout treatment (which most stylists skimp out on because of its price- but doesn't work as well) and this is the KEY to having a successful blowout. My crazy kinky hair is tamed for 2-3 months. This is a miracle because all other treatments I've done have left me unhappy with the result- all but this one. If you're interested in the Brazilian Blowout, I highly recommend Jenna!

Yea! My hair is short but super thick and can be a pain to deal with. Miles and most often Joejo are around and are able to really fix me up. I need a lot of thinning in particular places to get my hair to do what I want. It's been over a year that I have been able to depend on them fellas!

I called last minute to see if they had any openings for a color and cut. After just having a baby I really needed some quality "me" time to pamper myself and make myself feel beautiful and like myself again (anyone that's had a baby knows it takes a little bit to feel beautiful and normal again, considering everythings changed). Well the receptionist fit me in at the end of the day with Liz. She is young and really nice. The conversation flowed well and she did an awesome job on my hair. I've never had a go-to hair stylist before, but I've found one with Liz. Thanks :)

Extensions!!!  Erika put in my extensions last week and I absolutely love them!  They look completely natural, she made sure my hair matched perfectly, and they are pretty comfortable to wear.  If you are thinking about getting them here are a few pointers from someone who had no clue:
    * the hair comes wavy, so invest in leave-in conditioner for the ends to smooth them out (I have stick straight hair so this is new to me)
    * actually read the directions Erika gives you right then and don't wait a few days... I didn't realize I needed to brush my hair before I showered and boy does it make a difference
    * give yourself at least 20 minutes more a day if you are showering and blow drying : more hair = more time
    * if you are a pony tail girl, get them kinda far from your ears or else they will pull

I am so pleased with my new, long, luxurious hair!  The best part is, no one can see the tape and it looks absolutely natural.

    Dear Diary,

I need to make a confession. Recently, I was unfaithful. Yes, I cheated. I feel terrible. Things were not going as I wanted and I was at a awkward point in my life. I needed some kind of change and I wasn't willing to wait for it. I just needed to feel alive again. So I had an affair. Yes, I had quick and memorable affair with another hair stylist.

My stylist for the past year and a half, Melissa (from a different salon), was too busy for me. I had an important business trip approaching and she couldn't make any time for me since she was busy with a wedding commitment. I felt betrayed and started to harbor resentment for her. All of the time we had spent together. All of the laughs we had. The way she would touch my hair, play with her toys, work her magic, and make feel amazing once she was done with me.

But she was off making other people feel better about themselves at a stupid wedding. She was in another city; listening to others, making them laugh, and running her magical hands through strange strands of hair. Was my hair no longer important to her? Why would she do that to me?

I pictured her touching another person's hair and it was agonizing. It made me sick to my stomach. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I grew depressed, bitter, and jealous. I fought back tears of anger and I made some calls. Someone in my social circle recommended Penny at Innovators in Campbell.

I felt nervous about making an appointment. I knew it was wrong of me to even consider someone else to do my hair as I was already in a committed (stylist) relationship. But I picked up the phone, nervously entered the digits, and made an appointment with Penny. The following day, I drove over to see her during my lunch hour. If I was ready and willing, this was going to be a quickie of afternoon delight.

The girl at the front desk was helpful. She walked me walked me through the labyrinth of a salon that also features mani/pedi stations, as well as private waxing and massage rooms. Not sure what exactly goes in the massage rooms, but a saw a super old man walk in with a smile and leave the massage room with an even bigger smile. Maybe he was up to no good like I was?

The salon itself was huge. It was extremely spacious with lots of private little workstations. The overall décor of the place was awesome, which featured a Halloween theme (at the time). Each work station, which look like cubicles with cement partitions, are individually decorated by the stylist that occupies that space. It's a cute touch that differs greatly from other salons where chairs are placed side by side like an assembly line. At Innovators, it's just you and your stylist.

Eventually, it was just me and Penny. I admitted to her that I was nervous about someone else touching my hair and I hadn't let anyone else touch me in that area in a long time. But she made me feel comfortable by offering me some fresh brewed coffee or candy, but I knew it would give me the jitters. So I opted for some complimentary bottled water. I took a sip and then sat down.

I felt very anxious as Penny personally washed my long, slightly damaged hair. But the warm water on my scalp helped relax me. Her hands slowly massaged my head and I melted. But part of me was still slightly nervous of what was coming next.

I told her what I wanted and I showed her pictures of how I wanted it done. My heart started to beat rapidly. I trembled a little as she grabbed a few strands of my hair and got started. I knew it was too late to back out now. She took her time. She made me feel special. And by the time she was done, I felt like a new man.

Clearly, Penny is a great stylist with a very relaxed and friendly personality. Penny did an amazing job with my hair. She gave me a professional cut that featured my signature side swept bangs. And as my hair grew out, it maintained its shape, look, and style. Approximately six weeks later, my hair still looks amazing. Men lie. Women lie. But pictures don't, right?

I am not sure what I should do now. Clearly, Melissa knows my hair best. She knows its strengths. But she also knows its weakness. She knows how to handle it best. But Penny did a remarkable job. It was different. But nice. I am tempted to see her again. But if I do, Melissa will know of my infidelity. She'll realize it has been a long time since she has touched me and will most likely notice that something is very different about me. I am scared to step inside her salon again.

In the end, I will return to Melissa. It's hard to leave someone who have so much history with. But my hair will never forget that amazing afternoon I had with Penny.

I wonder if she thinks of my hair too?

IIrene Jonach at Innovators. have been going to hair sylist Irene Jonach at Innovators for over 10 years and I HIGHLY recommend her services. Irene has always done an excellent job of cutting, coloring and styling my hair- I always come out of the salon feeling  fabulous. In addition, she has a warm, caring attitude with her clients and really listens. As a career coach, I've also sent a number of my clients who need an updated look for their  job search and they have been very pleased with the results.

I've been coming here since June 2008 and Jake's my hair guy. HE'S SO GOOD (that's what he said)

All jokes aside, Innovators is pretty great and affordable. Jake is really personable and he puts up with my last minute appointments! Tiffany works with all of them and she keeps everyone's schedule in order. She's super sweet and always calls me a day in advance to remind me of my upcoming haircut. She's definitely a life-saver especially with my crazy schedule (I'm prone to be so busy that I forget to take care of myself, haircut included!)

The facility is nice and clean. Jake's space is really fun because he has all of his knick knacks and of course, a picture of him and his gorgeous wife! When I come in for a haircut, I generally just explain a couple of parameters that I want (how short etc), but I pretty much give Jake free rein with how he wants to cut my hair so it looks good. Trust me, my hair is MY LIFE. I guess I trust Jake with my life! He's a great guy and he's great at his job. I think what makes him stand out for me is that he loves life and he loves his job. You can't argue with that kind of sincere joy.

    General guy's haircut costs $35. I usually tip $10-$15. Yeah...he's THAT good.

    Grade: A+

I have been going to Innovators for about a year now.  I was referred there by a friend who has been going to Lora for years.

I love that the salon is so clean and the staff is professional.  They are always pleasant when I am scheduling an appointment and the reminder call is nice!

Lora is awesome!  When I first went to her, I didn't know what I wanted, but she was able to come up with a great cut and color to fit my face.  I have received a TON of compliments.  I have been going to her ever since!  Her prices are affordable and her service is TOP NOTCH!

WAS going to go out of my way from Sunnyvale to book an appt. here but the hairstylist I was booking with was so curt and cut me off so many times during the initial conversation for the hair appt. that I decided to scrap my plans to go there.

Another note: the stylist told me that I'd need to book  an appointment 1 1/2 weeks out (color)...I just don't think competition is so fierce for salon visits that I need to wait that long.

Left me with a really bad feeling -if communication between the stylist and the client is that bad initially, then what the heck am I going to end up with when I get my hair done there? Forget it. Too bad I never got to try Innovators but in the end, I didn't feel it was worth the effort to get there.

Originally from the East Bay I've been going to the same guy for a haircut since before I could talk.  I'm a pretty simple girl who likes very simple low maintenance hair. Pretty much 99 times out of 100 my hair is in a pony tail and out of my face. Since moving down to the South Bay I was on a quest to find a new stylist to cut my hair.  I decided to go to Stephanie S. at Innovators who was highly recommended by a friend.

I loved my hair! It was cut to a perfect length. Not too long but long enough to put in a pony tail if needed haha. And the price was very reasonable, $45 dollars for a cut. She also told me she does color, wedding and prom styles and even make up.

I'm so happy I found a new place to get my hair done. I will definitely come back and I might even wear my hair down sometimes. Go to innovators, go to Stephanie, she's pretty damn awesome!

I visited innovators for a massage from Jen and I was pleasantly surprised with not only the spa, but also with the private massage room and the excellent massage Jen provided.  I went in feeling a little uneasy since this was my first full massage, but Jen eased away all of my concerns and insecurities I previously had about massage.

Jen is very professional as well as personal and I would definitely recommend getting a massage from her.  I left the spa feeling better than ever and i now go on a regular basis.

Please visit Jen for the best massage ever, you won't regret it!!!

I was amazed when I walked in because from the outside you're expecting just a little ordinary hair salon. But no was I fooled!! The set up is so cute. All the stations our very personal with their own sinks. I love it. The decor is fabulous too. Very modern. The front desk staff was great too. Nothing makes you feel more special then when they start offering you a different assortment of drinks. Makes your visit warm and welcoming so you don't feel like your just another head of hair coming through the door, lol.

I came here to see Janelle. I followed her here from her old location. A great friend of mine recommended her. Now I don't go to any one else. She does a great job. She fixed my bleached  long hair to a stunning burnette with dark low lights, perfect for Winter. She cut my hair and gave me a lot of layers. I love big hair and the layers she put according to my shape of face worked perfect for when I tease and got that funky poof going =)

I just saw her and because I'm so indescisive after 6 months decided to go back to blonde again. This time she made me a more neutral blonde not as loud as my bleach blonde look. It's been only one day and I already got compliments. Plus my bf even talked about my new color usually he doesn't really care. I love it! Can't wait to go back in a month. She is awesome. She really listens to what I want and then tells me what she thinks... & bc I can't ever make up my mind she helps me decide what is the best and healthiest for my hair.

I would recommend her to all my friends! She is truly the only stylist I will see now!!!!!!!!!

Been going to Jo-Jo for years (daughter was still in diapers and son needed a booster in the seat).  Started with Joe at his previous location on Basom Avenue.   The current salon is stylish and Sherrie at the front desk is one of my all-time faves!  Sandi does my nails.

Joe-Joe is almost like a family member now.  He cried when last year my daughter went for a more teenage look.   All he could say/cry was:  "my princess has grown up.  my princess has grown up".  It was quite emotional for him.

He's watched my son grow up into a great student and great baseball player.

Best of all?  He got the DH to give up his damn Rofler haircut!  Thank you, thank you, thank you Joe-Joe for bringing DH's hair into the new millennium!

Wow, where can I start?  This is overall the best experience I have ever had at a salon.  It started with meeting Myles, a very friendly and professional young man.  He took the time over coffee to get to know me and really listened to what I wanted to accomplish with my color and cut.  After our consultation Myles very efficiently got down to work while often checking about my comfort and double checking my satisfaction along the way.  He really went out of his way to keep me involved in the process while at the same time using his own creativity and skill to really nail the whole experience.  When it was all said and done, I was the happiest I had been at a salon in 20 years of going to them.  Myles has a long career ahead of him and I wouldn't be surprised to see him open his own spot someday.  Thank Myles, I'll be back!

I got a haircut there last Tuesday (maybe 2 weeks ago, I forgot) and I am in love with it. I brought in a couple of magazine tear-outs to help the stylist create the look I was going for. She nailed it dead on. I love the cut. My hair is manageable and easy to style and I feel great about it. Thanks Nina!

I made an appointment for prom last year, and they seemed to be pretty efficient when it comes to setting the appointment up.  I arrived at the place; it looked nice and I assumed the service there would be just as good too.
Perhaps it was because I was only a teenager that they didn't show me any respect, but the make-up job and hair-styling was TERRIBLE.  I wear make-up at school, so I already had foundation on.  However, I expected that if I was paying $40 for make-up, they'd touch-up my foundation at least.  The lady spent about 5 minutes on my makeup; she didn't even take off my smeared black eyeliner that had worn off during the school!  She added hot pink eye shadow on top of my messed-up eyeliner, and wow did I look terrible.  Who would pay $40 to get pink eyeshadow put on?
Besides, the lady's make-up kit was very minimal.  Nothing unlike the previous make-up studios I've been too.  She had a teeny little case with a couple colors.
As for the hair, the lady was nice enough but she wouldn't listen to my request (I finally summed up the courage to speak up).  My hair looked like a puffball by the end, and I had to rush home before prom in order to straighten my hair and undone everything.

I was referred to Irene from a friend at work. I made my first appointment for after work. When I got there she saw how much hair I had and realized she needed much more time than she had allotted....my fault! Ive a whole lot of hair! So she spent 1 hour and I must say it was a great cut!! We made an additional appointment for 2 weeks later to finish up the layers and texturizing. Well...I went in today and she spent 3 hours on my hair!! The woman is an artist!! I have found my new stylist!!! I would recommend her highly!! Thanks a ton Irene!!!!

I'll start with I'm not a big salon fan especially pretentious San Jose salons.  I went to innovators because there wasn't that vibe but I was disappointed in other ways.  I had good haircuts but when my stylist raised his rates 35% with no notice I thought it was unprofessional.  Then I asked the manager and she said its up to him.  Hmmm, someone just lost a customer.  Rates go up, I'm fine with that but they don't go up 35% with no warning.  How about, "hey sorry dude, next haircut my rates are going up, they're kinda steep but that's what I have to do"?  Not, "surprise, you owe me 35% more than you have paid the last 3 times."  I even called to get clarification on what happened and no call back!  Business must be good if you can afford to loose business and risk bad reviews.  I don't name names but there aren't that many male stylists.

I only come to Innovators for waxes and facials. I always go to see Kellene. I pay $45 for a fruit enzyme peel, which is way cheaper than the normal $100 facials other salons offer. She spends extra time making custom mixtures for my facials, and even will do extractions (NOT with a razor, which is illegal and PAINFUL!) and offers samples from the Dermalogica line (my fave). Her room in the back of the salon is super relaxing and peaceful, with dimmed lights and soft music. My face always looks glowing when I am done. I have acne-prone skin, and her fruit enzyme peel really knocked out the acne. I don't think I have had any breakouts after seeing her, once every six weeks for a year or so. She has also done some waxing for me, and she is very efficient and careful to get all the hair, plus it is comfortable and almost painless.

I had my hair appointment today, with stylist Stephanie S and with aesthetician Kellene A. I moved to San Jose from East Bay and was looking for good salon, and Innovators was a pleasant experience. Stephanie was very friendly, warm, and helpful trying to get a new hair style for me. I liked her suggestion, however, I decided to go conservative, since my family is coming to visit next week. And I was amazed with Kellene, who did waxing (eye brow and Brazilian). Let me just say, that was one of the most painless experience for me (Brazilian). I'll definitely go back to Kellene (she's moving to another place in a month or so to downtown Campbell). Great experience overall!

    JAKE IS THE MAN!

I've been going to Innovators for about a year-and-a-half now, and will keep coming back as along as I can!  I tried a bunch of places in the Bay Area before coming to Jake, and it's so awesome to finally find a place where the stylist can interpret what you're looking for in terms of style and upkeep.

As a young professional, Jake manages to pull off a style with my hair that can look professional and well-kept for work, but get a little wilder for the weekends.  He's also just great to talk to, and you can tell he really cares about his clients' happiness.

Prices are on par (or cheaper) than similar establishments in the area for a men's shampoo/condition/style.

    Thanks Jake!

I love Innovators!  My hairstylist (from another salon) referred me to Kellene to do my regular eyebrow waxing.  It actually does not hurt.  I didn't think this was possible, but apparently it is.  Sometimes there's a little sting when she waxes below the brow, but above the brow, there is literally no pain.  Plus, the ambience is very relaxing; you lie on a comfy table and listen to a water fountain or soft music while Kellene rubs scented oils on your brow.  I've also visited the nail salon there, run by Sandy and Jim.  Their pedicures are expensive ($45-$55) but they include a 30-minute foot and calf massage and the color stays on forever.

I've been going to Innovators for about 4 years now and still remain a loyal client. I have referred many friends and family members to this full service salon because of its integrity and welcoming environment. The front desk receptionists are super friendly and provide excellent customer service.

I've always been uneasy about trying out new hair stylists. Once I find a great hair stylist that I trust I will not leave! 4 years ago when I started having difficulty getting appointments with my previous hair stylist I was forced to find someone else. I was introduced to STEPHANIE SJOUWKE at Innovators by Sharrie (the receptionist). I was very skeptical because I hate change (especially with a hairstylist, you can't just trust anyone when you have thick Asian hair like I do!). After my first appointment I was so impressed and so happy with my results I haven't left her since! She is not rushed and the integrity of her work shows. We've tried everything from platinum peek-a-boo's (She's great at!!!), to highlights, to a chic jet black do-- she's awesome! I admire her honesty- she's not out for your money if she doesn't think something is a good fit for you she will express her thoughts in a professional manner. I fully 100% trust STEPHANIE with my hair and think YOU should too!
